A single event changed the world to what it is today. A fire killing an innocent family allowed Lord Voldemort to rise and fail whilst trying to take over the wizarding world… but what would have happened if they had survived?
This family, of course, was a Pureblood line. The origin of this line, however, is much darker. They lay in the secret love affair of Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin, the union creating four children. Spending so much time together, Ravenclaw began believing in Slytherin’s Pureblood beliefs, but wisely hid them from everyone but her best friend, Helga Hufflepuff. She even stayed behind to help keep Hogwarts running when Slytherin left, carrying on as normal, telling Gryffindor her children were to a husband that travelled constantly, aiding wizards where he could. Life went on.
The line, however, never forgot its origins. The deadly mix of intellect and dark ambition kept them quiet, so the power within could eventually make itself a little more perfect with every generation that passed. The most dangerous phase of this finally came to pass: the Ravenclaws, as they kept their original name, met Tom Riddle, the boy who would become Lord Voldemort. Close allies, Riddle was the only person outside of the Ravenclaw family that knew of their origins, the information making the boy want to aspire even more.
So, the future happened, and Lord Voldemort took his name. He applied for the job of Dark Arts Professor, and was knocked back, the blow being the final straw for him. There was a prophecy, of course, but this time the Ravenclaws used their intellect to steal it successfully, as well as advise this frontman successfully, allowing him to take over the wizarding world as planned, as well as Hogwarts itself. With this new power, he didn’t even fear Dumbledore anymore, rising higher than he ever could without the Pureblood’s aid.
Eventually, those older Ravenclaws passed on, only leaving a single child behind: the final heir of Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Naming her after the beginning of the line, Rowena was more powerful than any wizard before, becoming Voldemort’s equal. They ruled together perfectly, balancing each other out, and they even eventually fell in love. Having children of their own, everything happened as it should have done. The prophecy wasn’t able to occur as it should have, with Ravenclaw’s ingenuity, and so the Potters were never murdered by Voldemort’s wand. In fact, they all became staunch members of the Order, but had to lie, allying themselves to the Dark Lord and Lady, like most others had to. The major fight from the Order was crushed, forcing them to either feign allegiance to survive, or go into hiding.
Now, Hogwarts is how Salazar Slytherin originally intended. Dark magic is taught alongside all the other lessons, and only Purebloods as well as loyal Halfbloods are allowed to attend the school. Considering there is no other wizarding school in the British Isles, therefore, if you wanted your children to know magic, they had to attend this Dark castle. Hogwarts is also still the most secure place in the world, so it is where Voldemort Slytherin and Rowena Ravenclaw hold their court. It isn’t just a school: now the castle is the hub of the wizarding community. It is the home of something much darker…
Now, 1997 is a deadly place to be, Death Eaters all over the place, Order Members executed for their ‘treason’ if caught. Because of one event two hundred years before, there is now a wizard monarchy.
Dare you call for revolution?
