LLANDOD, WALES, YEAR 2000
Llandod. A small town in Wales that was pretty much unheard of in the early months of 2000. Once a ripe farming village it was slowly losing it's name and thus, it's business. That was exactly why the occupants of Llandod came together at the monthly town meeting with the Mayor and thought "Hey! We need a gimmick!" But what? That was the real question, for month the townspeople phoned, mailed and spoke to the Mayor about the options they had. Finally, on the morning of the 2nd May a single woman entered the Town Hall and asked to see the Mayor - she had an idea about a way to get Llandod back on the map.
This woman and the Mayor talked in length about her idea, what was the idea you ask? The woman proposed an academy, but not your usual academy, after all there were hundreds of them. No, she suggested an academy for students of the creative arts. Singing, music, dancing, writing, art, acting and photography would all be topics studied in depth at this academy. Each student would be offered the chance to enhance their natural talents and learn from some of the best Wales had to offer in each field.
Two weeks after this meeting the idea went into the hands of the public at the latest town meeting. Townspeople were asked to vote on the idea and it won hands down. Everyone was excited about the thought of a new academy; it would bring younger people to the sleepy town and in turn their parents, who would help bring business back to the town. Plans went to the council for planning permission, they were granted without any hiccups but what remained now was to find an architect, builders and teachers to teach once the school was finished. This is what took the longest and many came to doubt the idea.

Finally, in early 2001 the actual building Chrea Academi, for it was to be a mainly Welsh speaking school, so why not have a Welsh name, went underway. They had chosen a large plot of land just on the outskirts for the school to be built on, some of the farmers had issues with this as the school would be right in the middle of their own lands, but after a short talk with each of the farmers everything was sorted out and planning continued as usual. But like with every building site, there were issues and at one point it seemed like the building would never be finished.
Thankfully in late November the building was finished, not only that but finished in record time as well. It was majestic looking building, made to look like an old castle with an unexpected modern interior. Four floors high, each floor - save the last one - was dedicated to two topics. Not to mention the wonderful entrance and dining halls and the courtly grounds that went with the school. The building alone was a hit and once news travelled about it the council had even had a few people calling up to have their child attend. It dawned on them then that the school had no headteacher, this was a problem easily solved however because the woman who had originally had the idea for the school was appointed Headmistress.

Jump to 2007 and the school is doing amazing. Students from all over the world have heard of it and are dying to gain entrance, so much so they're willing to stay with locals in town while they study at Chrea. There is even a waiting list to get in and not even the local children get in over this. There have been quite a few successful graduates from this school and the Headmistress is hoping this will continue. Now the student's summer holidays are over and it's time to return to their daily lives. But extraordinary school or not it is still, in short, high school and it is just as cutthroat and competitive - perhaps more so as the students battle with one another to be the best in their field.
