full name: catherine selena rose
gender: she's subject to monthly "gifts" from mother nature
age: sixteen
school year: junior
art interest: science (marine biology)
portrayed by: emily browning
appearance:DOLL FACE * if there's anything to be said about catherine rose's face, it's that it is quite unique. it's wide and quite circular, not exactly spherical but definitely not completely leaning towards the square side. she's got a wider, very slightly thicker bone structure than the average person, and it can make her head appear quite... well, just large. her head often seems to big for her body, which annoys her to no end. she just doesn't like it, and it's not really something you can blame her for. at the highest point of her face is her forehead, which is quite long and rounded and graceful, if it were possible for foreheads to be graceful, that is. perched right atop the spot where her skull drops into her eyesockets are her eyebrows. and, to be honest, they're not exactly the greatest set of eyebrows ever. they are not bushy, which is good, but they're quite thin and feathery and sometimes tinged with a orangish hue. they can often appear weak and sickly. cat does get them doctored just because she finds it amusing when they form perfect semicircles above her eyes. dipping down from her eyebrows, you'll find catherine's eyes. they are fairly unique in a sense. they are large in general, but this is less accentuated by their width and how she scrunches them up when she smiles. and large eyes usually give send out the impression of always being deep in thought, which cat likes, even if it definitely isn't always completely true. her eyes would almost be hazel, but the green in her irises overpower the other flecks of color. moving in and down slightly from the eyes is cat's nose. it's slightly elongated, but it really doesn't extend off the surface of her face. the tops of her cheekbones are flat until the midsection of her nose, which raises up slightly and then dips back down. there isn't really a slope in it either; it lies quite flat. in her sophomore year, she decided she'd look good with a nose ring so went out and got one. she usually only keeps a small crystal stud in it, and even then not very regularly. and right beneath her nose and above her rounded chin is her mouth. you could probably call it a 'rosebud' mouth of sorts; her lips aren't very wide until she cracks a smile. she has a very definite little valley in the middle of her upper lip and they are both a little reminiscent of angelina jolie's in terms of their fullness. overall, cat's face is a bit dollish.
LONG BROWN HAIR * cat's hair is evidently very adaptable and skilled at dealing with variety. her natural hair color and texture is a straight mahogany-ish brown, which suited her just fine. but she often got bored with it and liked to experiment, to mix things up. from a young age, she was experimenting with hair dyes and curling irons. and wigs, for that matter. there are all sorts of hair care products available around a circus. her first ventures involved kool aid based dyes but they eventually evolved. she went through a stint as a sandy blonde in her sophomore year of high school. curtains of dull purple locks rested on her shoulders for several months in seventh grade. in third grade, in an attempt to mimick arielle the mermaid, her hair was a shade of wannabe shocking scarlet. what with her love for experimenting with her tresses, it's really a little unusual that lately she has been keeping it where it is, which is at its natural color of dark mahogany brown, albeit slightly messed what with all the dying it went through, kept in sublte waves and some slight bangs that she can easily latch back to disguise when she feels like doing so. generally speaking, her hair is rough and usually lifeless, but she can sometimes manage to battle it into a nice state of glossyness that she can usually decide to settle for.
MEASURE UP * and now i'm thinking an overview of cat's body would be prudent. one of the first things you'll notice about her is that she is not the tallest person to ever walk the earth. she's not exactly supermodel material as nowadays all the anybodies don't go for very petite girls. she is quite short, which is something that can usually get her quite disgruntled. it's always been the thing people tease her about the most because her reaction is usually at least slightly comical. she stands at only five feet, one and three quartersjust barely two inches. she's never been overweight, not even ever really looking like she had a very average metabolism, but she is probably also not exactly the most reminiscent of a lamp post person you'll ever see. she is quite petite and skinny, but never precisely alarmingly so. nowadays it seems that everyone is at least slightly messed up about food. there are people who won't eat, people who won't stop eating, it's a little crazy. cat, however, has never really had food issues. she eats when she's hungry and stops when she's full. and she doesn't really enjoy junk food. she doesn't like feeling her teeth rot away. so she generally stays away from that and consumes healthier foodstuff. perhaps as a result, she's never really worried about her body in terms of weight. it's never really occurred to her to worry about it since she can tell that she is very obviously not obese. catherine's weight fluctuates, of course, but is usually somewhere between 105 and 110 pounds. in addition to this, cat isn't the curviest person alive. her waist is virtually straight and not exactly possessive of the desired hourglass shape. and her hips are pretty nonexistant. she does have boobs, however, though they are fairly average, just slightly leaning towards the kinda bigger side of the scale.
YOUR EPIDERMIS IS SHOWING * well, her skin is quite nice. it's got a thick and creamy texture most of the time, except in winter and usually lessly so on the outward sides of her upper arms above her elbow. even in the californian winters her body reacts readily to the decreased moisture in the air and her skin tends to dry out and no amount of lotion can seem to fully revive it. towards spring, it regains its niceness and admirability. now that she's living in a place like california's she has to suffer through a lot less dryness. her skin is also quite pale due to the fact that she doesn't spend exponential amounts of time outside and she has absolutely no interest in or patience for tanning. and anyway. skin cancer doesn't sound all that enjoyable.

character personality ,
personality:LIVELY * cat has always had some contempt for all things boring. she prefers an exciting atmosphere much more than a tranquil one. her idea of excitement, however, is most definitely not exactly she same thing as most of valkyrie's teenage population's idea of excitement. she's not into the whole getting drunk off her ass thing, though it has happened before and the only thing she found particularly unbearable was the mind splitting headache the next morning. cat's idea of a nice time isn't just sitting around, talking or mulling things over. she prefers things to be a little "edgier", which can invovle simply animated conversation or a game of hackey sack. yes, she's played hackey sack. she's not a fan of a lot of the drama that goes on around valkyrie, but it is interesting. some things are, of course, too exciting, but when things are too dull or too calm, catherine will do her best to get the atmosphere bumped up onto a livelier level. she can be a sort of diet cola version of some of the rebels running around valkyrie when she feels its appropriate. appropriate meaning that the situation she's currently experiencing is getting dull and sluggish. cat's usually equipped with a grin of steel or a joke she ripped off her brother or a "helpful" suggestion to get things moving in her direction. she's not one to just sit, she likes to move around and laugh and poke subtle fun at people. it's a gift of sorts, see.
SCHEMING * yes, she looks like an innocent little flower at times, but that doesn't mean she hates not getting what she wants. cat enjoys scheming, both as a method to get what she wants and just for the hell of it. and proving her own intelligence to herself, for that matter. she's always been capable of thinking well when the occasion called for it and as time went on and she began to realize what people were thinking of her and why, her love for creating sometimes elaborate or hairbrained schemes increased. when she was younger, she enjoyed mapping out long attack plans for imaginary armys, which ninety nine percent of the time centered around a "fake out" tactic. cat felt herself too mature for that when she hit eleven, however, so now many of the drawings are beneath a floorboard in her old philadelphia bedroom. cat's never been one to go with the flow if she doesn't like it, though she will snap at people for being too resistant to it when they don't favor it, and many of the little plans she comes up with are capable of causing a lot of trouble. however, catherine's always felt a certain small regard for the rules and what with her desire to become a marine biologist and get into a decent college when she grows up, she'll try most of the time to not do anything to provoke anything serious. only when she's sixty percent sure she won't get into trouble. cat's not afraid to take a few risks.
MISCHIEVOUS * this is a trait that was much weaker when cat was younger, but as she's grown she's picked it up more and more. as mentioned above, cat's definitely not as innocent as she seems. her looks alone often make her appear like a cute little bugger incapable of bad intentions.just look at her. she's the type you'd expect to be kind and sweet and ever ready to help and incapable of anything sinister. -snort- this is what caused this trait to morph. no one thought her capable of getting into trouble. she was very often severly underestimated. and she didn't like it. so starting trouble became an enjoyable past time for her. it's never been very major that she's caused for this purpose. but she positively hates it when people assume that because she's of small stature and looks "cute" or whatever that she can't be totally bad ass. her scheming nature can often come in handy when cat's feeling like she needs to prove herself. cat was born with a generally calculating and slightly unscrupulous nature to begin with. but as she grew and got annoyed, it got worse.
HONEST * oh yes, honesty's one of those virtues isn't it? unfortunately, catherine isn't honest in the sense that she won't lie to save her own skin or cheat you out of all your money. because, if really prompted, she will do those things. but the majority of the time, cat has no problem telling people what she thinks of them. why not, right? she doesn't know why. she's just always felt that there's no point in lying about that kind of stuff. maybe it's because, were her life a sitcom, she'd just find it too annoying and painful to watch someone she'd lied to to spare their feelings stumble about like a moron. cat's never had much patience with stupidity. you can usually count on her to tell it to you like it is, unless she's purposely trying to do you wrong. she's never been one to lie or bend the truth a little to sound modest and not like a stuck up. so she can sometimes come off like she thinks she's better than everyone else. it's not really true, of course.
MOCKING * classily, mind you. cat won't get into a screaming fit and start spitting out insults unless you get her really, really pissed off. she's quite good at maintaining self control. no, she prefers to just mock people. to annoy them. without them noticing and then sniggering about it later over a cup of cocoa or orange juice. never fear, she only does this to people who annoy her, who she thinks deserve it, or to who she knows well enough so that the knowledge that they'll forgive her or not mind is fairly probable. well, even then, she doesn't care much. when she's feeling cranky or sad she'll get less subtle just because she cares less about pretty much everything when she's upset. when she's upset, her conscience can usually be trusted to take flight for at least a little while. as for why she enjoys subtly mocking, annoying, and aggravating people, cat doesn't exactly know, as in she can't pinpoint the exact reason. she thinks it goes something along the the lines of that she likes knowing that she's smarter or at least has more knowledge than whoever she decides to bug. she likes feeling smart, as do most individuals. and if her 'victims', so called, realize that she's insulting them and get angry... well, she likes the feeling of knowing she has that, for lack of a better word, control over them; that she's able to make them feel that way.

character history ,
originated from: madison, wisconsin and philadelphia, penneslyvania[/size]
heritage: british, dutch, irish
parents: philip rose, 37, realtor
geneva johansson, deceased
siblings: edmund charles, 19, half brother
other: none yet
living situation: valks
history:PREHISTORY * an unwanted pregnancy. oh golly gee, that's something you don't see that often. philip rose was, to put it mildly, quite frightened when he learned that his girlfriend, wendy, was pregnant with his child. he didn't know how he could possibly pull this off because he happened to be a member of a traveling circus, and so was his girlfriend. a baby was really not what he needed at the moment, even if he did want to have lots of kids someday, when his life was more stable. eight months after he got the news from wendy, his son edmund charles entered the world, whom philip quickly nicknamed charlie. he did his best to raise charlie stably, but it was difficult. and he broke things off with wendy when he met geneva johansson, a new addition to the circus, and became smitten with her immediately. he and geneva were together for three whole years before it happened again. for the second time, a girlfriend of philip's had fallen pregnant. this time phil felt more prepared because things were working out okay with charlie. if he could handle charlie, he felt sure he could handle almost anything.
HEY BABY * catherine selena rose entered the world on june first, 1991, in one of madison, wisconsin's hopsitals. and her parents were definitely given more than they bargained for. cat was not an easy baby to deal with. and her parents were anything but equipped to deal with her. geneva decided that it was all too much and quit 'the business.' she took cat to live with her outside the city, abandoning philip with his son, leaving him peeved and heartbroken. it was only several months later that phil got the call about the car accident and cat was returned to his custody. cat spent almost the entirety of the rest of her baby months being babysat by a nice middle aged woman in need of some spare cash, along with her half brother, charlie.
WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG * it was early on in her childhood that cat started to realize something. she really did not enjoy her life. even at such a young age, cat harbored a great distaste and contempt towards the lifestyle her father lived and that she was by default being forced to live. she didn't like it. she was a deep kid, everyone had to give her that. so cat started channeling all her frusteration into just being mean to the people she associated with. she and her brother were homeschooled with some other 'circus children' at the time, and all the other kids learned not to cross her. the problem was that cat was also a very intelligent individual and she made another early step by learning how to hit things where they hurt. she was excessively unpleasant for a period of time, exasperating all in involved. she wanted desperately to go to public school somewhere with all the 'normal people'. but, seeing as this little circus outfit was one of the traveling nature, it was virtually impossible.
summers during her childhood were difficult for her. they always seemed to drift on endlessly, attacking her in the sweltering heat and it was like they were always figuratively smiling lazily at her, promising more travel than usual and more time to sit around thinking about the life she really didn't care for. there was just nothing to do, which she vehemently despised. some participants of the circus body wanted some helping out which could have easily taken up a lot of time, but cat usually daintily stuck her nose up at offers of such menial tasks. if she was in a good mood. if she was in a bad mood, she scoffed and said something that, as the offerer was walking away, would register as rude and, well, catty. no pun intended. she only helped out when her father, an angry crease between his eyebrows decorating his face, sternly told her to be helpful and threatened to withhold dessert if she did not comply. cat was bored much of the time. and therefore she was miserably. until she came up with an idea. an idea that seemed fairly simply at the time; its purpose was strictly to eliminate some boredom for a while and put some cash in her pockets. strangely enough, it was this small, rather insignificant idea that would infatuate her brother for years after she originally let him in on the scheme. they teamed up to counterfeit tickets to the circus and sold them to gullible, unsuspecting children. cat was quite proud of herself.
as phil watched his children grow up, as well as watching cat grow more and more devious, he realized that this kind of life wasn't fair to them. they needed a stable, healthy environment to grow up in. so he sent them to the family he had abandoned in philadelphia, the family that had done their best to snubbingly forget him. cat was positively delighted. she's always felt bad about her departure, when she barely paid her father any mind, being too eager to finally escape the lifestyle she detested, hardly even telling him goodbye before bounding onto the plane, tugging charlie along behind her. her eagneress was thwarted quite a bit when she actually arrived at the destination she had imagined as a version of her own small heaven on earth. at first, it was quite heaven-esque. her relatives were very nearly the epitome of class and cat greatly enjoyed this change of scenery. they were all almost scarily artistic, which didn't seem to be a problem. at first. it was when they seemed to expect cat to be as gifted with those sorts of things as they were that she started to feel a tad uncomfortable. she told herself to shut up; she'd surely get over it.
TEENAGERS * as time started passing, cat was put on the back burner in the minds of her relatives. she was clearly artistically incapable. and her brother was not. they still liked her of course, but it was charlie who receive their praise and attention due to his considerable skills when it came to a cello. she wasn't really good for much, so they didn't spend much time on her. cat started to get angry. it seemed, to her, that in their eyes, she wasn't capable of anything. especially a few of her male cousins, who loved to poke fun at her lack in vertical mass. she felt very unjustly underestimated. her feathers were definitely ruffled.
for a while, cat put her very best effort into her new beloved school. it was both for herself and to impress her relatives, to prod them into realizing she was good for something, to no avail. she really got quite annoyed. so what did she do? she did what any self respecting teenager would do. she started acting out in school; letting her grades slip, mouthing off to teachers. really daring, right? the agitation she experienced in one area of her life made her more aware of some other things in her life that she wished would just shut up. there were her teachers, though intelligent human beings, who were always talking about values they did not practice and had to know on some level would never be wholly practiced, especially within high schools. cat started losing respect for almost everyone she knew, except for several friends and several aunts, the latter of which she still beheld in reverence.
she had always known that charlie was usually perpetually up to no good, but she had never bothered reasoning with him, never even broaching the subject of his questionable money makings schemes. that is, until one afternoon, shortly after arriving home from a frustrating day at school. she marched into charlie's messy room and told him she wanted in. charlie, not being a brother of the superly overprotective nature, chuckled and said fine, whatever. he wasn't going to give her anything serious; maybe just let her help out with some of the fake ids he produced with the help of three mysterious gentlemen. like most, he underestimated his little sister. so both siblings worked happily together on things that could possibly get them charged with fraud. niether of them cared, though for very different reasons. it gave cat a sense of accomplishment, as weird or pathetic as that may sound. she delighted in not being what everyone thought she was; a tiny girl, not to be expected of much.
school was growing to be more and more of a nuisance in her life, though her general lifelong goal was heavily related to academics. cat was still putting her heart into science and math, but the rest she considered mere trivial details. she was feeling especially frustrated one hot afternoon in late may. it was weeks away from the end of her freshmen year of high school, her first year of schooling in philadelphia. she was in study hall, finishing up a pointless essay that nearly enfuriated her. the study hall superviser, a mister brock, mosied over towards her desk and began some small talk. cat did her best to respond politely, though it was very difficult. she had work to do. honestly. then, mr. brock sat down right next ot her, much closer than she was comfortable with. then suddenly, his hand was on her knee, the suggestiveness in the gesture unmistakable. at that moment, cat unleased some of the anger that had been building up inside her for a while. she briefly recalled every event that pissed her off since the her last eruption and twisted in her seat to face the old man. she exhaled heavily, then punched him in the face.
no on believed her, of course. no one who had a hand in the matter, anyway. everyone important believed mr. brock's story; that he had been lecturing cat about how her recent slacking off in homework was unacceptable when she suddenly blew up at him. and, since assaulting a teacher earned you a one way expulsion ticket, cat was informed she was no longer welcome at the school and was lucky mr. brock didn't press charges. she finished up the term in the crummier public school that was located almost at the other side of town. all her relatives were greatly disappointed in her and cat was soon yearning once again for another change of scenery. this place was just getting too crowded. then, deliverence arrived in the form of a letter from her father. he told them he had gotten remarried (to a very, very rich woman), gotten a job, and settled down in valkyrie, california. he invited both his children to join him and they both jumped at the chance. they've both been living with their father in a cushy valk mansion for about a year and a half now. cat feels she got more than she bargained for in valkyrie and wonders if there's even more coming. she's confident she can handle it, however.
