This respectable fellow, though shy and not talkative, does have a magnificent body. His father was always the one willing to push him further and futher in schooling along with athleticism. Derek wasn’t in any sports growing up because the lack of able school connection made it just as hard to be in any despite the fact that his parents would strictly forbid it anyways. Derek Sr. pushed Derek Jr. constantly to excell in weight lifting. Now Derek was no body builder and still is not one, but he’s got muscle. Derek Sr. made sure of this incase something in his past crept up on Derek Jr. and threatened him. Muscles were what you needed to deal with the threat that Derek Sr. thought his past family was and since they did not have connections anymore the physical part had to prove a lot.

Facial features can highten your status or end up diminishing it. In many cases throughout history the looks of one person can determine peoples perspectives of them. A surface judgement of one person is a nasty fault that many people obtain. But everyone has their own personal looks of liking in ones mind which tends to even up the risky role of a judgement of looks as a whole. Derek in his years of living has found his way of realizing this fact/opinion in many ways. Derek in his lucky state grabbed all of his fathers features while only some of his mothers. Luck of the draw made Derek’s face shape into a soft square/heart shape. He got his fathers eye brows and eyes. The eyes that are soft and swaying. The eyes that in speeches help him with what he needs to influence or persuade. The eyes that he mainly inherited from his father but the color came from his mother. The dark brown hew is easy to dismis because of the little or no signifigance to what he usually tries to get. Derrek’s nose was from his mother. The downward slant of it is ugly in Derrek’s words but it looks almost lovely when seen on his mother’s face.

Derek’s clothes are those of comfort and class. Derek’s personal attraction for colors comes from his father. Darks were all that his father wore while Derek’s mother chose the bright colors of the rainbow. Though Derek tends to stick to shades or dark colors it seems to suit him. His naturally tan skin color creates a perfect harmony with his style. Derek’s clothing style is one of casualty. His closet for shirts usually consists of button ups, plain long sleeved and short sleeved shirt, and several band t-shirts. He doesn’t like to dress up, but when he has to impress you know nobody doesn’t enjoy dressing to impress and it’s the same for Derek.

Personality:

Derek is a mature guy for his age. Usually guys are out partying, having sex, drinking/smoking pot, or getting in more trouble than they are worth. Derek isn’t interested in any of those. He’s what you would call a straight-edge. His life for now consists of studying and trying to keep away from the evil’s that life wants to offer him. Derek has a very mellow and rugged outlook on life. He doesn’t like the “evils” but he won’t dislike someone if they decide to have the evils ruin their life. In his mind it is considered a cycle and he can deal with not getting into that cycle of drugs/smoking/drinking until he’s atleast out of college and mature enough to realize what he wants. Sex on the other hand to him isn’t one that he considers an evil. But it is something that he has never had the chance to encounter. Sex is something he believes only people in love should do. Since he hasn’t had the chance to live and be free he feels as if maybe living in the dorms of the college will be his test. His ultimate test.

Derek is also shy. He’s semi-normal around guys who are of his type and almost cultured. Around women though he is a different person. In the three months that he’s been in the dorms at the University he’s come to realize that women make him nervous and being around them is awkward for him. When around women Derek turns to his shy side and crumbles into his shell. Studdering and making a fool out of himself is what he does best around a pretty lady and in Valkyrie there are too many of them to count. The only time he’s not shy or awkward feeling is when he’s performing infront of someone or a crowd or when he is discussing with teachers or mature fellows like himself. Derek is an awkward person and never has much to say. His music is the way he communicates but he can’t play music everytime he bumps into a pretty girl.

Being spontanious is something that Derek does not excell at. He’s not a people person though he tries. He doesn’t like to talk and avoids it because of the fact that he tends to embarrase himself with uhms, hehs, and awkward silences. Derek is a spitting image of his father when it comes down to this. His father knows how to talk numbers, about doctor stuff, lawyer stuff, and everything that Derek hates to talk about but only knows. Music is one thing that Derek knows, truly knows, how to talk about. Music is his life but when it comes down to it he doesn’t like to express what he feels about it. Derek has never felt truly comfortable talking to anybody and he feels that this experience in the dorms at the University isn’t going to help anything.

Now for sensitivity and trust. Derek has his sensitive side but it rarely shows. For an example, at home he has two cats and five dogs and he loves each and every one of them. Animals are very important in his life especially his animals. Now most guys are jerks and they’ll have animals but they won’t care for them. Derek despised going away for college and still hates his parents only because they won’t call or talk to him and let him see his pets. They’re his and that is just one of the reason he hates his parents. Derek has intense feelings for many things an animals is just one of them. For trust Derek only has a one track mind about it. Either he trusts you or he doesn’t there’s no inbetweens. Many people who have crossed his path have ruined his trust for them and now for Derek he only trusts his siblings. It’s hard for him to trust people now because of his parents and their lack of emotional consistency in his life but he’s getting over that factor.

Likes: Music, Playing Guitar, Journalism, Reading and excelling, His pets.
Dislikes: Talking, Drugs/Drinking/Smoking, Parents, Not knowing his family history, people who ruin his trust for them.
Flaws: Derek doesn’t like to talk to ladies mostly. He feels socially awkward almost all of the time and keeps to himself.

He trusts few and his trust doesn’t come easily. He’s still sheltered in his mind.
Secrets: His families history that he only knows very little about but his father demanded him keep the information he knew a secret.

History:

In the beginning the Gallagos name meant very little. They were just another name with money behind them. Money that wasn’t their right to own. It all started with Ruby Richardson. Her family was a big name in the streets of New York. Her family was one of two other families in a risky gang deemed the Sirens. This gang had gone way back to the 70’s. But it was only recently that the three families had begun calling themselves the Sirens. The Richardson’s come from a long line of German’s and mix’s along the way. Ruby’s father Amel was alive and well when the three families had decided to make a name for themselves. Shortly after that when Ruby had three sons, Amel passed away and Ruby’s oldest brother Jason took up the role as the named title of the Richardson family.

Being that Ruby was the only girl out of eight children that Amel Richardson had her brothers tended to protect her more than was needed. That’s when Peter Gallagos came in. The Gallagos family was linked with the Richardson’s for many years but this was the first time that their families would become intertwined. When Ruby was twenty her and Peter married. The rest happened too quick to explain all that happened in the midst. It ended up with Ruby and Peter having seven kids, both of them staying closly linked to the Siren gang, and risking their lives and their kids life. But the new Gallagos family sticked with what the gang was most notorious for. They had five daughters out of their seven children and Ruby knew how to raise her daughters to uphold the Siren name. Her sons on the other hand were two opposites. Her first born was Derek Gallegos. He tended to steer clear of what his mother and father expected of him. He was in his mothers words the “smart one and dud” of the family. Ruby’s other son Gregory lived up to the family name and ended up dying in a drive by because of it.

For staying out of his families wrongdoings and being in the right place at the right time Derek ended up carrying on the Gallegos name. It was this name that Derek’s father now put to shame. Derek had shyed away from the Siren’s and the Richardson’s as he grew up and went on to be a shining star despite the gangs terrible past in his life. Derek was the one who broke away and made something of himself. But despite his best efforts the gang loomed over him and his soon to come family. After graduating high school and starting college Derek met the woman of his dreams. The sophisticated, determined, and well-to-do Summer Rivores. After a couple years of dating on and off and figuring out what they were to each other Summer Rivores turned into Summer Gallegos. That year was the year that Summer found out she was pregnant.

Derek Gallegos was a prestigous surgeon and Summer worked in their cities local mall as a manager for Forever 21. By this time Derek Sr. and Summer had moved out of New York and moved to California to get away from their lurking past and keep their child safe. This seemingly quiet Californian town was named Valkyrie. After Summer had given birth to their first born Leila, Summer and Derek Sr. without warning picked everything up and moved to California despite Derek’s fathers wishes. After that the problems seemed to end. Derek got what he wanted which was his practice, a one year old daughter, a beautiful house close to the water, and his past behind him. This was the first time in years he was content. That was until Summer told him six months after Leslie was born that she was pregnant again.

Derek Gallegos Junior was born into a family of one child before him and two later on. Shortly after Derek Jr. was born Summer started her own fashion line. This was when things started turning for the worst for Derek Jr. Since Leslie and Derek were Derek Sr., and Summer’s only children at the time, they had this predicament about their upbringing. After Derek Jr. and Leslie started school both parents realized that they were very busy people and so they would have to keep Derek and Leslie in the public schooling system until they were older. This whole child seclusion was their plan for many years. They felt as if it was their only way to protect them. This sort of protection ended up being one of their many downfalls in raising their children.

After five years of schooling in the public school system Derek Sr. and Summer took Derek out of school just like they did with Leslie. By this time they had one more child in the second grade and one on the way. This is when seclusion began. They were too old now to be going off and doing their own thing like the should be and instead they were only allowed to leave the house if accompanied by a nanny or Derek Sr. or Summer. This is the way that Derek Jr. lived his life from sixth grade until he graduated. This life of all four children that Summer would give birth too would be the way to shelter them from their families past. To keep them safe from harm.

It is said that sheltered kids never make it as well in the real world as well as the other kid. Derek was living proof of that. His whole life from sixth grade till high school graduation he was home schooled. College was now his time to break free. It was his time to make it on his own without his parents breathing down his neck. His whole life it had been that way. His life was his parents life. Ever since he was born they had this dream for him: Harvard. It was the same way for Derek’s three siblings. For awhile Derek had forced himself to believe that Harvard was his dream too. A prestigious Ivy League school, his parents lives complete, his life suposidly complete, and his smiling family behind him. What was bad about that?

The truth was that maturing and growing into a man was Derek Seniors horrible realization. This realization was exciting in Derek’s words. He realized that his father’s dream for him to be a doctor wasn’t his own. His dream was to be a musician. Performing infront of billions of people all beconing for him for an encour. It was his favorite view of the life ahead of him. Going into Harvard and working himself to death wasn’t going to cut it when this dream of his was pushing it’s way into his mind. This dream was Derek’s and his alone. This dream was something his parents couldn’t change his opinion on. This was real and his.

In eleventh grade his parents had agreed to buy him his most wanted item of the year: Silver Sunburst Gibson Les Paul. With a little more begging and annoying guitar lessons came six months later. That guitar had become his life besides his grades. That guitar had been his escape and his main reason he kept calm while his parents bagered him about grades and while they yelled at him for getting a 1150 on his SAT’s. That guitar kept him from breaking down after he told his parents he wasn’t going to retake the SAT’s so that Harvard would take him and when he told his parents he didn’t want to go to Harvard.

That day he told his parents he wanted to go to Valkyrie University, it shocked them. To this day even though he has been going there for three months they have yet to call him or talk to him. In their words the Gallagos name was technically ruined. This enthralled Derek’s grandfather though. Derek knew that it would come to this, but in his mind if his parents stopped talking to him about this then how great of parents could they be? Not good ones at all. Though the sheltering seemed to work in the beginning, by the end his parents should have realized that all they created was a teen who wanted to rebel. A teen that though childhood had not had much of a childhood couldn’t help but wonder what it was like to live. This rebellion also made Derek want to know more about his history. More about why he never saw his grandma or grandpa or knew what they used to do. All he knew was that they were involved in bad doings, they lived in New York still, and what their names were.

Getting into his studies at Valkyrie University Derek has found it hard to do all work and no play. Yet play gets him off track of his work. Play –once he has it- tends to make his motivation of studying difficult. Being unable to focus on anything but studying his whole life made actually dealing with life on his own hectic. Guitar helped him get away from his studies a tiny bit while he was living with his parents, but it was nothing compared to what Valkyrie truly had to offer for him. His grades haven’t slipped quite yet and he hasn’t gone out and enjoyed all of the places and activities that Valkyrie has to offer him but he is slipping out of his shell slowly and cautiously.
