Spinning 'round 'round and 'round Never wanna touch the ground •• ¤ •• ¤ •••• •• •• •• ¤ •• ¤ •• •• •• •• •• ¤ •• ¤ •• •• •• •• •• ¤ •• ¤ •• The annoying chime of her alarm clock telling Nickie to wake up was not welcomed, and as she rolled over in her bed and turned it off she looked at the ceiling and realized it was time for her to start her tedious morning routine. Sighing at how turned off she was to the idea of listening to her professors talk for ages Nickie convinced herself to get up remembering that today she had hours down at the garage, the idea of motor oil on her hands made the day seem worth it.
After doing all her normal early morning things (brushing her teeth, doing her hair…) April was ready to go. Her roommate had already left by the looks of the mess that was the other’s bed and Nickie smirked at the thought of the other girl missing her first class for the third time that week. Sure it was a little mean but the girl deserved it since not all of the people who got into Valkyrie U were rich or townies like her. Grabbing her hat and sunglasses Nickie was out of the dorm and walking to the quad her mind on Texas and how much her life had changed since she moved to California, it was a pleasant thought but when Luke’s face came into April’s thoughts her heart tugged at her. Walking quicker to get to class so reality of what she had done to the man would not set down on her again but when she got to the social studies department the idea of going to class was gone and it would be the first time she skipped a class since she started University. Kicking around the idea for a little bit before Nickie finally decided against going to class, with a smile on her face she ran out of the building and out to the parking lot where her black 04 F150 was parked. Maybe today will be a good day, she thought to herself as she threw her bag into her truck and climbed up into the cab and started the truck.
Driving off campus April had no idea where she wanted to go, well she thought of the garage but decided to give the boy’s time to build up their ego, they hated that a women could do their job just as well as they could. Smirking as she stopped at a stop light finally deciding on the beach as she turned on her radio and turned up her Toby Keith CD. Nickie sped down the roads that lead to the beach, singing along to the song that was on, and just relaxing, it wasn’t every day April skipped school and she was going to make the most of it. Parking in the parking lot just outside of the beach Nickie got out of her truck and opened up the back door going over some of the random clothes she had in the back knowing she had a bikini somewhere. After a few minutes of searching she found a random blue and brown stripped bikini, not caring that she was in public April stripped down and put on her bikini. Hearing cat calls from a group of guys as they walked passed she turned to face them, smirked then casually flipped them off, “Go ta hell!” she called out to them before pulling out a brown half jacket and putting it on. Making sure she had her cell phone with her April slammed the back door shut and took off her boots and chunked them in the bed of her truck and made her way down to the shore.
It was only about 11 o’clock and there wasn’t a huge crowd of people out just academy kids skipping, retired folk, and random surfers, it was the perfect time for April to be out and about. As soon as her feet touched the sand a wave of calm came over her and she rand down to a random spot on the beach and sat down. She looked out over the water and watched a guy ride a wave, just following his movements and thinking about how odd she would feel surfing. For a while all April did was watch that same guy over and over again letting her body heat up and soak up the sun. Her mind was somewhere else, Mexico, she was sixteen again and her dad had just died. Luke was all she had and they took off across the boarder and camped out in a truck for three weeks, just them and the surf. A tear fell from her light green eyes, ashamed by the display of weakness April laid her head on her arms which she had wrapped around her legs, and for one moment she was the insecure little girl from the past. A concerned voice made her snap back to the present, without looking to see who it was April snapped, “What do you want?” her voice cracked but the message of anger still filled into her question. All she could think about was, who knew a cowgirl could cry?

With a long sigh, Jason stepped out of his upper level biology class with a shake of his handsome head, the hand that wasn’t holding his books reaching up to rub his aching forehead a bit. The class wasn’t that hard, but lately all of his classes had been giving him a headache and it was more than just the fact that finals were coming up. He, of course, was blaming that on the stress he was putting on himself outside of school. No, he hadn’t picked up a job yet, but he had a few hours less next semester to where he could pick one up. It wasn’t that, but just the fact that he had been busy shopping with his fiancée lately and not for things for their wedding. They had been baby shopping, looking for a crib and toys and such lately and though that really didn’t take up all of his spare time, he was constantly worrying about her. Oh, she was capable of taking care of herself without a doubt, but he had always been protective of her, well, at least for how long they had been dating, and it seemed the more her belly grew, the more protective of her he got.
He had been rather thrilled when the previous day he discovered he had no classes after lunch that day and he decided to take that time to do a rare thing and actually relax while he waited for Ana to get out of class. He knew he was going to have to take advantage of this free time he had because before long he wasn’t going to have any. His classes were already difficult and he had to spent quite a bit of time studying for them and at the start of the new semester, he’d be getting a job so his parents weren’t supporting him, his fiancée and their child though they were more than capable of doing so and then, only a few short months after the start of the semester, after their wedding, there would be a baby in the house. Just the thought was making him stressed out. If he wasn’t in class, he’d be at his job and if he wasn’t working, he’d be at home studying. He doubted he’d have much time to eat, much less spending time with his soon-to-be wife and their baby. However stressed he was, and though this was far from how they planned things to be, he couldn’t help but be excited for the arrival of their new family member, even though he doubted he’d get to spend much time with him or her until he was out of medical school and by then, their son or daughter would be going on four years. No, it wasn’t what he wanted, but it was reality.
Catching sight of his flashy silver car, Jason dug the keys from his pocket and pressed the unlock button, smiling slightly as he heard the Mercedes beep as the locks clicked out of place, giving him access to the driver’s seat. Tossing his books on the empty seat beside him, he pressed play on one of his favorite CD’s, already relaxing as the piano from The Fray’s music flowed through his speakers. Piano music was so relaxing, and playing piano was something he had always done when he needed to relax which was why there was a white grand piano in his living room. Backing out of the parking place, he put the top of his convertible down, enjoying the feel of the warm California air. He couldn’t help but think how cold it probably was back home in New York right about now, probably some snow on the ground in his little home town. Though he lived in Valkyre for a few years now and with his fiancée for a little less than one, he still considered Colonie his home.
With the thought of Ana living with him for almost a year, a little chill ran up his spine as he thought about why it was she moved in with him in the first place. He had spent the week before she moved in in a hospital bed after a drunk driver had slammed into the side of his car, almost killing him. His eyes widened a bit as the exact same song just started playing that had been playing in his old car when he had been hit and he hastily moved his hand to change it. It wasn’t just the irony of Syndicate coming on at that point in time, but he still wouldn’t listen to that song while he was driving anymore, even though it had been - and still was - one of his favorites. Shaking his head, he turned down one of the many familiar roads, happy to go and just take a walk on the beach before heading home to once again bury his dark head in one of his books for his upcoming finals.
Since it was midday, there weren’t a lot of people at the beach and he had no trouble finding a place to park his car, hopping out of it and enjoying the heat of the sun on his face. Stepping on the sand, he started his stroll by heading down to the water, not really planning on getting anything wet, but just making the walk on the beach worthwhile. Shaking his head, Jason remembered all of the memories he had on this beach, the bad one the most vivid one in his mind, at least until it began to get blurry. It was about two months after he and Ana had decided to take a break and then he almost ended up in bed with one of his best friends - and an ex - at least until Ana walked in on them. Their relationship had come to an abrupt ending then and he realized that he really had been cheating on her, she had promised they weren’t over and yet there he was, doing something he considered stupid. That led him to drink, something else he considered stupid, and that led him to the beach party, a shirt on to hide the two long scars down his side from the surgeries he had gone through after his car wreck. He had ran into Ana at that beach party and he was hurting so much, he spent the majority of the time drinking right in front of her.
Jason was saved reminiscing on what else had happened that night as he saw a young woman, maybe a year or two younger than him sitting on the beach a bit ahead of him and he watched her curl up in a ball like his fiancée tended to do when she was upset, or at least until her belly had gotten in the way from her doing that. As his walk led him closer to her, he genuinely became concerned, as that was just the type of person he was. He hesitated for a moment before stopping in front of her, voicing his concern. “Are you alright?” As always, his voice gave away that he was concerned and if he didn’t have sunglasses on, his dark eyes would hide nothing. A look of surprise crossed his face as she looked up at him and snapped, her words clearly angry even though they cracked with emotion. “I just wanted to see if I could help,” he said honestly, not quite sure if he should stay or continue his walk, so he stood in front of her for a moment, awaiting her response.

Spinning 'round 'round and 'round Never wanna touch the ground •• ¤ •• ¤ •••• •• •• •• ¤ •• ¤ •• •• •• •• •• ¤ •• ¤ •• •• •• •• •• ¤ •• ¤ •• April hadn’t wanted to get off on the wrong foot with the stranger but it just seemed like every once and a while the past got to her and it put her in a funk. Drying her face and taking a deep breath in she looked up towards the guy, “I’m sorry I snapped at you,” she paused trying to think of something to say, the truth was April was never good at that sort of thing, “look if you want to sit down we can talk or something, I feel bad about being so rude to you.” Sure some of her southern charm still existed, April wasn’t one to be rude to a person who was just trying to help, and it made her think of home.
Every year around Christmas time the Manning family held a town charity toy and food drive and when they reached their goal with both items April’s family held a party for all the people who were receiving the gifts and food so the donors could meet who they were helping. After April moved out and started college she hadn’t done anything like she used to, she was so consumed with making a living and proving to not only her mom but herself that she could live with out her families money. The one person who was living she missed more then Luke was her sister Gretchen. They did everything together, and Gretchen was the only family member April allowed to visit her. It served as a punishment in a way, she always blamed herself for her father’s death, if she wouldn’t have made him mad that morning he never would have went out for a ride and he never would have gotten hit by the drunk driver, daddy I miss you so much, her silent thought gave her hope that he would have forgiven her in the after life.
Coming out of her thoughts April felt a little weird not talking to her company, she didn’t even know his name, it was nice of the guy to want to help out a complete stranger and in a way that made April feel for him. “I’m sorry I haven’t even told you my name, I’m April but feel free to call me Nickie,” with a smile she held out her hand in a friendly way letting the guy know she was harmless (for the most part), besides April could always use more friends. After all of that was done she laid down on the sand looking up at the sky she didn’t know if she should ask the guy about why he looked so stressed since she didn’t even know him but April felt like she owed it to him to try and help him out of he needed it. “I think I should be asking you if you are ok, since you look like you haven’t slept much and your face is tense,” letting her words sink in and laughing in her head over her southern drawl, “so are you ok?” April really wanted to make a new friend outside of her guys at the garage and random people from her dorms and she hoped she wasn’t being too assertive with asking him if he was ok.
While she waited for a reply and maybe a name from the mystery guy April let herself calm down and relax while she looked up at the sky. There was never a moment when she didn’t think that her father was looking down at her when she was looking up to find him, it gave her a peace of mind but it usually didn’t last long, April just kept the hope alive that there had to be a way to know her dad forgave her for what she said to him before he died. As she looked over the clouds and the light blue sky April felt for some reason like it was true, he had forgiven her but if he did she would have no reason to be in California anymore. The thought made her smile since Valkyrie was beginning to feel like home, just not as down to earth as Kaufman was.

Jason casually shrugged off his acquaintance’s apology as he did with anyone; when it came to snapping at someone, there was usually a reason. He had caught himself being a bit snappy from time to time lately and that was completely out of character for him, but it was simply because he was worn out and stressed. And it was rarely at Ana, or any of his close friends, just people around him. He was contemplating continuing his walk, at least until she spoke up again. A little smile crossed his face as he shrugged again. “It’s up to you, it just happens sometimes,” he said simply, though he assumed that if she offered, she really didn’t care if he joined her, so he took that offer, sitting down on the warm sand beside her. He didn’t realize just how good it would feel to sit down; anytime he had recently, his mind had been flooded with thoughts from upcoming tests at school to Annie’s next doctor’s appointment and though there was still a bit on his mind, the sand and the ocean was, well, relaxing.
The silence didn’t really bother him much, though he was a bit lost in his own thoughts, his mind already buzzing with what all he had to do when he got back from his little break from reality. Homework, baby furniture shopping, job hunting, baby names, colors for the nursery, finals, and the ocean were all on his mind. And while he was attempting to take this break, he felt guilty. Guilty because while he could take a step back and just try to act like there were enough hours in the day to cram everything in, Annie couldn’t get away because she was the one carrying their baby. Being away from her wasn’t easy for him now; it seemed like his protectiveness had kicked into overdrive and he wanted to know where she was and what she was doing at all times like he could protect her from the harms of everyday life. Most of the thoughts slipped away, though, as his company spoke up, a warm smile crossing his face when she apologized for not introducing herself as he realized he hadn’t told her his name, either. Taking her hand as she offered it, he nodded his head slightly. “Well Nickie, I’m Jason. Irving. Nice to meet you, ” he said kindly with a little grin, letting his hand drop from hers and back into the sand beside him.
It took a moment for her words to sink into his mind and when they did, he chuckled a bit, his dark eyebrows raising a bit as he turned his head to look at her. “Yeah, I’m alright. It’s just…” he shrugged, a little smile crossing his face again. “Life doesn’t always go the way it’s planned to.” He wasn’t quite sure if he should go on, if his fiancée would care or not, but if Nickie became a friend of his, she’d find out before long why he was so exhausted; it wasn’t like they could hide it anymore. Giving yet another little shrug, Jason turned his eyes back to the ocean waves rolling in and out in front of them. “My, uh, my fiancée’s pregnant,” he started to explain, his eyes unwavering from the ocean. He wasn’t sure what she thought of that since he had clearly just stated they weren’t married yet. The slight bit of shame he felt whenever people would cast the two of them the look that clearly said they disapproved probably wouldn’t have been there if Ana hadn’t brought it up, though when it happened it sort of gave him a reality check. He wasn’t always going to be able to please everyone. Giving a tiny shake of his head, more to himself than to anything he said, he continued on. “And between that, school, and looking for a job, well I hardly have time to breathe,” he said with a little chuckle, that little bit of humor just the way he was - always trying to make a tense situation more relaxed. With a little sigh, Jason tilted his head to the side a bit for a split second in a sort of half shrug. “I suppose I’ll survive, though, it’s not like we didn’t want it, we just wanted all of this down the road a few years when we’re both actually out of school and we have steady jobs and time for each other…” trailing off, Jason suddenly looked a bit embarrassed and he immediately apologized. “I’m sorry. I didn’t need to throw all of that on you.” If there was one thing about him, he would never really lie to anyone, even though he hated dumping his problems on others and he’d rather just say he hadn’t been sleeping well and turn to their issues, adding whatever it was he could do to help them onto his already overly crowded plate of things to do. “What about you - are you okay? You seem a bit stressed,” he asked lightly, trying to turn the conversation away from all of his issues he had just unloaded onto his new acquaintance who probably wished she had never invited him to sit down by now.
