JASON‘S FINGERS GENTLY COMBED
through Ana’s hair as she laid on the couch, still completely out. He was beginning to worry; she shouldn’t have been out that long, should she? Maybe she had hit her head harder than he realized. Biting his bottom lip, his fingers sliding to the back of her head as he felt again for a bump. Chewing on his lip still, he shook his head a tiny bit, his fingers returning to just running through her long blond hair, a clearly audible sigh of relief coming from him as she groaned though he doubted she’d heard it as she didn’t seem to be completely out of it yet. The man’s dark eyes watched his fiancée as she shifted on the couch, watching for anything that might be wrong. When he heard Mariana’s question, his head tilted towards her, though his eyes remained lock on Ana and he nodded his head in response. “Yeah. Yeah, I think so,” he murmured quietly, a little smile crossing his face as Ana turned to look at him. His eyes hadn’t left Ana since he returned from the bathroom, so he hadn’t caught the look on Mariana’s face though he probably wouldn’t have believed it if he had seen it. He still thought she practically hated him, though he really couldn’t blame her. He had broken her only child’s heart, knocked her up and caused her to pass out on a hard floor. There wasn’t much for her to like about him, at least in his eyes.
AS HE LET OUT ANOTHER RELIEVED
breath, a wave of dizziness washed over him and he remembered why exactly she was waking up on the couch. Pushing it away, his eyes widened and he reached out a hand to stop her as she sat up on the couch. “Woah, woah, woah,” he said quickly, watching her as though he expected her to pass out again. A sympathetic look crossed his face as he watched her hands gingerly touch the back of her head and the tears start in her eyes, wishing he could do something to help. A slightly amused sigh slipped from his lips, a similar smile crossing his face. “I’m not going to let myself die…” he muttered, his smile stretching a bit as he teased her. “Pass out, maybe, but not die.” Shaking his head, he shrugged. “It’s really not that bad. Well, I mean I’m not going to bleed to death in two seconds.” Truth was it burned terribly. No, it wasn’t the worst pain he had ever been in, but it was pretty bad.
WATCHING ANA STAND UP, HE
watched her for any signs of dizziness or anything even though she only had half of a step to get to his chair. As she ran her fingers through his curls, he pressed his face against her stomach as another wave of dizziness seemed to wash over him, dragging him with it as it didn’t just wash away as it had previously. He nodded his head in response to her question, pulling it from her stomach as he looked up at her, feeling like his face had paled in the two seconds he had it against Annie. He stood up slowly, giving Ana a little smile as she slid an arm around his waist, though he knew if he was going to black out there was no way he wanted to bring her down with him. Besides, he didn’t feel quite that bad, at least not yet.
HE FELT A BIT UNCOMFORTABLE
sliding into Mariana’s car, feeling like all of this was unnecessary, but there was no way he was going to let Ana drive after she hit her head as she did and he wasn’t going to drive with the dizziness spells he was getting, though now the dizzy feeling seemed to be stuck with him. Glancing up at Mariana, he was a bit confused but her sudden concern with him as she questioned him, though he couldn’t help but smile a bit. “Yeah, yeah, I’m fine.” Shifting a bit, he made sure his bloody sleeve wasn’t touching the car seats, smiling as his fiancée took his hand. “I’m fine, really,” he murmured to her quietly. “It’s just going to need a few stitches.” After he said it, though, he could feel his face begin to get a bit clammy. Jason sighed again, resting his head on Ana’s shoulder and pressing his face into her neck. Maybe if he was going to black out, it would be less noticeable if his face was hidden.
THE RIDE TO THE HOSPITAL
didn’t seem as long as it should have been and it sort of surprised him when Mariana was parking already. Opening the car door, he slid out, wobbling a bit as he stood on his own two feet. On his feet, he could feel his own heart, feeling like it was beating a bit faster that what he thought was normal. Shaking his head a bit, trying to clear it, he headed in to the all too familiar emergency room, taking Ana’s hand. He almost said he wanted her to get her head looked at to make sure she hadn’t hurt herself worse than they both thought, but he figured she’d just shake her head and tell him he was crazy. Instead, he gave her a little kiss on her head. “Maybe you should stay out here with your mom,” he suggested quietly as they walked through the emergency room doors. “I don’t think you’ll want to see what they’re going to do to it.” He couldn’t help but laugh a little bit at the image of Ana passing out again as they cleaned out the gash on his arm. The last thing she’d want to see would be the bone in his arm through the deep cut.
