•• Tony Giovanni ••
I HEAR THE FORECAST AIN'T AS BAS AS IT SEEMS it should be clearing up soon if only in dreams ------------------------------------------ ------ The door of the van slammed shut as the rookie pulled his hand out of the way just in time as to not get it smashed into pieces. Close call on Tony's hand. "Woah close shave rook!" Jim, an older member on the team exclaimed a bit. Antonino Giovanni, gripped his left hand in his right as if to protect it from his almost injury, when really he was helping fight the urge to rub or touch the stinging burns going up his right arm. "Yeah no kidding, don't need a broken hand in addition." He replied plainly. He sat back a bit further into the van. He glanced forward and the squad car they were following in which he could see the shadow of the head of a meth lab. It was amazing how many drugs were around, inside and in between these two cities. These two cities being Los Angeles and Valkyrie, California. He was about a half an hour out from Valkyrie. They were going to turn to head to Los Angeles, take the guy to headquarters and all that. Tony had to hand it to the man. He put up one hell of a run. He wasn't armed, which if you ask Tony was a bit stupid, not that he wanted the guy to open fire on a bunch of Agents but come on, common sense in defense or whatnot? The guy did rig the lab to explode though and while Jim ran after the man, tackling him down about a block way, the lab blew, Tony was lucky to make it out with only the burns running up the side of his arm, the side of his neck was a bit singed but not too badly. Honestly, he could heel fairly well on his own except for the pain was really attacking him.
------ He took a sharp intake of breath as they hit a bump in the road and his arm bumped lightly against the side of the van and held in a small yelp of pain. Burns had to be his least favorite of the common injuries. Broken bones he could handle, hey bullet to the arm had already happened recently, we could do that again but the sting of burns made him squirm way worse. They weren't even that bad of burns. And injection for the pain and whatever weird cooling jelly the doctors always put on before wrapping them up and like a day of desk work and he's be fully alright again. And good, Tony hated desk work. He knew it was part of the job but it was the boring part. Jim chuckled slightly, "Yeah, you do always seem to be the one getting hurt..." And it was true. And it's not because Tony wasn't as quick as them or anything, if anything he was younger, fitter and quicker. The problem was Tony, in spite of his wiser than his years maturity, was still just a young man with a lot of naive idealism in him. Strange that that's true when Tony seems to be anything but naive, but he did have this sort of invincible attitude that gets a lot of younger agents in trouble. This case was different, a large number of their S.W.A.T. crew got burnt or injured in the explosion as well but in general, his complete desire to save the day could get him hurt. It was refreshing and stupid at the same time. And FBI agent has to put himself on the line but something an agent of Jim's experience knows that one of Tony's doesn't is that you can't save anyone... not if you're dead.
------ Tony looked back at Jim, he was going to shrug but decided against moving his arm by consequence. He sighed again to help catch his breath as they went over another bump. Jim nodded to his arm, "You want me to wrap it for protection until we get to LA?" Tony shook his head. He could make it LA fine. Although... if he asked to just go to Valkyrie Hospital he could see Sarai. It would be nice to see her again. He groaned slightly, making it sound a bit worse than it really was, "Actually, could you guys drop me off at Valkyrie Hospital, it's quicker." Tony asked, "I can do the paperwork tonight and fax it to you guys. come down on the bus and grab my car tomorrow or something..." Jim nodded, "Yeah, sure kid." He replied to the delight of Tony's ears as Jim yelled over to the guy driving, "Hey Bill, take the next exit, we're droppin' tony off at the hospital!" Bill replied yes sir and they were off. Tony did feel a bit bad. He really could have waited, the endorphins your body shoots through your body during injury were kicking in and the pain was dulling slightly. And he was inconveniencing them slightly but it's not like its that big a deal. Besides, Sarai was... he just wanted to see her, okay? Its not a big deal.
------ A little less than a half hour later Tony found himself saying goodbye to Jim and Bill and making his way towards the Emergency room, his arm looking worse than it felt due to slight bleeding from heat blisters and charred blackness on his now completely completely destroyed sleeve, but he walked in with his suit jacket covering the arm completely as to not freak anyone out. But hey, really its not too bad. A few bandages and he would be fine. He went up to the desk and looked at the nurse manning the station. He smiled, "Hi," He introduced himself, showing his badge for a moment, "Tony Giovanni, I was in a bit of an accident. Just need some burns looked at." he lifted the suit jacket that was hanging over on his arm just enough for the nurse to see it. "Oh yes of course, go inside room 3e and someone will be with you in a moment." Tony smiled, "Thank you, Is Sarai Montgomery here by any chance?" He asked with a hopeful tone. The nurse gave a small smirked smile and nodded, "I'll send her in." Tony nodded, "Thank you again." He added before he walked over to room 3e and sat down on the exam table, removing the jacket sort of peering at his own burns through the sleeve that was falling off his arm. But what was really on his mind was how easy it was to find an excuse to see her. It was kind of nice.

SARAI JORDANA MONTGOMERYVALKYRIE HOSPITAL, EMERGENCY ROOM, SEPTEMBER 2007 -----"hey baby!" she said with a smile as sarai watched the four year old little terror come rushing to her side. sarai bent at the knees and scooped up her sister, smiling and twirling her around for a moment before she seated her weight on her hip and walked to the nurses station. "what's going on?" sarai asked the woman who ran the nursery on the third floor of the hospital. with all that had happened recently, taking on her little sister had been the best decision sarai could make. sure it put a damper in a few of her plans and sure it made work a little more interesting, but sarai didn't might the shift to her lifestyle. if she could keep her sister from having to be raised by strangers...actually there was no other option. sarai was not about to let her little sister be raised by nannies. it had been bad enough that sarai was raised, if you call that raised, by lucille. sarai was lucky to have turned out the way she had. the one downside to ainsley staying with her were the odd hours that ainsley had to stay in the nursery. the staff had been good to her though. they'd promised to leave the nursery open until sarai was off her shifts and could pick her up, that shift was supposed to end about...oh now. she hefted her sister up onto the counter so she was eye level with her. "now sit. i can't have you rolling off of here and walking away in casts now can i?" sarai asked making ainsley giggle. she kissed the four year old's tiny hand and grabbed a pen, scribbling away a few notes on her last patient of the day.
-----"sawai, me hungwy." sarai laughed as she looked over at her sister who was faking a pout and holding a lollipop to her chest at the same time. what a devilish little child. i mean, who could deny that cute little face with her cute little pout. all the cuteness was going to give her a cavity, just like that lollipop was going to. "tell you what, you let me finish, and without the lolipop, and we'll have baked apple for dessert tonight." the apple was a usual kind of treat for the montgomery sisters. sarai was more of an advocate for making fruit a treat as opposed to sweets. so far she'd kind of been successful. more so in a fifty/fifty sense. some days she'd win and ainsley would go crazy for some slices of pear or apple, and other days she'd look disappointed. still, sarai was hoping she was doing a decent job. she's been pretty new to the idea of taking care of a child. in most senses she was still one herself. but for two years now sarai had cared for her sister. when she'd moved out and gotten a place to herself she'd ultimately felt lonely. but her own selfish reason for having ainsley around hadn't merely been for her sake. she was adamant in the idea that no child really wanted to be raised by nannies. though she'd considered her father to be a decent human being when she'd asked him about taking care of her sister, now she was certain she'd made the right decisions. sure sarai had forced herself to grow up a little too soon, but how many other twenty year olds would you meet as mature as sarai was? my point exactly.
-----she was prepared, she was ready to go home and tuck her sister into bed. sarai handed the file to the nurse behind the desk and smiled up at her sister. "who's ready to go home?" sarai asked looking over at ainsley. "i am!" ainsley said as she tossed herself off the counter and into sarai's outstretched arms. sarai kissed her sister on her forehead and started walking off. "sarai you're needed in the e.r. special request." well crap. sarai looked over at her sister, slightly helpless. "um okay" sarai looked over at her sister and her pout as one of the nurses came over. "i'll sit with her in the nursery until you're down." with a thankful glance sarai passed her sister to the nurse, despite her look. sarai took her hand and gave it another little kiss. "since you're being so good i'll make it ice cream tonight okay munchkin?" she watched as ainsley's face lit up like a christmas tree. "ooh ice cweam. okay sawai." with a little wave the trio parted ways, ainsley and the nurse headed to the nursery, sarai to the e.r.
-----she fell into step with one of the nurses as they pointed her to one of the examination rooms, handing her the file just before she walked through the door. sarai caught sight of the name and her glance shot up to the nurse who was smiling at her. sarai tipped her head back and laughed. "a little warning next time. please?" she said with a big smile as she turned the knob and walked inside. "we have to stop meeting this way." sarai said with a smile as she walked in and shut the door behind her, leaning against it for a moment. the smile on her lips fell the moment she saw tony's arm. "ouch. good one." she said losing all sense of familiarity. burns were serious. they got easily infected and were super painful. even if it hadn't been tony sitting on that table sarai would have hurried into action, the fact that it was tony on the table made her work even faster. "bad guys lost right?" she asked over her shoulder as she grabbed the burn kit. she turned back to him and set the kit beside tony, grabbing the scissors. "sorry babe but the shirt's got to go." she said with a little shrug. as of a few days ago it was nothing she hadn't already seen. still, sarai was slightly more than thrilled to get to take a peek again. easing the scissors under the fabric, sarai quickly cut away until the fabric fell to the floor. "i'll get you something from the lost and found when i'm done." she said with a small smile.
-----she didn't have to talk loud which was good because being in such close proximity to him made that absolutely impossible. it was a little more difficult this time around from the first time sarai had seen tony in this hospital. then the air had been riddled with long overdue tension. now, sarai was relatively sure it was one sided. being on great terms with tony made things all the more difficult. being so close to him, she could think of nothing other than the genuine smile of his she'd seen not that long ago. god where was the professional when you needed her? "this is going to take a little longer than the last time you were here. there's a lot of debris here." with a swab sarai applied the numbing jelly to the extent of his wounds, giving it time to work before she made her first move. "so how are things?" she asked with a chuckle, catching his gaze for a moment before she had to look away. that was sarai for you. she never could look at someone in the eyes for too long.

•• Tony Giovanni ••
I HEAR THE FORECAST AIN'T AS BAS AS IT SEEMS it should be clearing up soon if only in dreams ------------------------------------------ ------ Tony could not lie to himself even when he was trying to convince himself he came to this place for the sake of getting his burns taken care of as quick as possible. Yeah it was faster but it was his arm, he was there. He knew he could have handled the pain the way back to L.A. Hell, Jim sometimes made fun of him saying he had the pain tolerance of a woman. Women have naturally higher pain tolerances probably to prepare them for the hell that child birth seemed to be. But Tony could handle his pain with relative grace. He was well aware and proud of that fact. No, the reason he came here instead of there, which would actually have been easier because he still had work to do as well as his car resided in the parking lot at head quarters, was because of the chance of seeing Sarai. In fact, he didn't even know for sure if Sarai had even been working, he could have done it for nothing, but luckily enough god decided to smile on him today. Twice. Wait no, three times. His team busted up a meth lab, suspect in custody, that's one. He walked towards a building that ending up blowing to bits and all he came away with was some burns up the length of his arm. That is number two. And finding an excuse to see Sarai and having it work out because she was actually here. That, that was number three. And yeah, he really could not figure out a way to rank them so don't ask.
------ Tony sat on the exam table fiddling slightly with his burns. Oh come on! He knows it's probably not good for him but when something is being painful or irritated, it is hard not to mess with it a bit, test out where it hurts the most, differentiate between your strong and weak points, etc etc. It was a natural curious urge. He winced slightly as he pealed a piece of his shirt off the bright red skin. But when he heard that door open, he smiled up at the most beautiful site to be seen this side of the planet. "we have to stop meeting this way." Tony grinned, "Yeah, you're telling me." He said with a smirk, "I mean, not that I don't love any excuse to hang out but I could so without the burns." He glanced down at his arm as one of the blisters bleed a bit ((anna says: ew)) before giving a small amused scoff, "heh, I think I preferred the bullet." He added before looking back up at Sarai, taking notice of her scrubs, how cute. He didn't know such scrubs existed. Really all he had encountered were the plain blue baggy ones. Sarai could rock either but still, it was nice they had fairly nice ones for people. "ouch. good one." Tony shrugged, "Jim says I'm the eager idealist and therefore bound to get hurt more..." He sighed slightly but still with a smile, "Anything to save the day though right?"
------ There really was nothing wrong with the way he liked to think about the world. At least not in his mind. To him there were two types of people. Good and Bad. And yeah, he was very black and white about it. It changed with every situation obviously, so drawing solid straight lines was never a real possibility with him but for him, once he tagged you, you were tagged. At the end of the day, your actions were your own. Intentions only matter to you. He was sorry so many kids were abused and then grew up to abuse others but that didn't make their abuse justified or excusable in any way and most of the time, that's the way people tried to use them. People tried to excuse the actions of themselves or others because they have been so tragically mistreated in the past and wasn't right. It was not fair to those who live through hell and back and grow to be good people. It was possible, happened all the time for that matter so no, he did not like excuses. What you do with your life is what determines what type of person you are, not your intentions. Hitler thought what he was doing was what was truly best for Germany and world but that did not make it right now did it? Lets just be fair. The little boy who has been beaten and molested is not going to forgive the man who did it to him because he finds out the man was beaten too. It might help explain it, but in no way does it excuse it.
------ Tony looked back at Sarai as she walked over to him. "bad guys lost right?" Tony nodded, "You know it." He replied, "Guy was running a meth lab, he ran, one of the guys on my team ran after him while me and Swat went to check it out and boom went the dynamite." He explained simply. God, that sounded so dangerous. I mean, not that it wasn't but it was so everyday for him. Not the explosions but having your life threatened on some level was. He watched as Sarai turned and grabbed what looked like a burn kit, or at least that's what he was assuming, only thing that really made sense at all. "sorry babe but the shirt's got to go." Tony laughed, "What is with you and catching me with my shirt off lately?" He asked, kiddingly. The last time Sarai saw him with his shirt off was actually while she was hidden in his closet and he was undressing. Yeah, sounds bad but really it was just a mistake. Some drama unfolded but lord he was glad it had. Ever since "the kiss" things had been strained and that day had helped put them back in a good place with each other. He wouldn't have had it any other way. Even if had meant she knew about the letters. God some of those had been so sappy. It was embarrassing. "i'll get you something from the lost and found when i'm done." "Cool" Tony replied plainly as she literally cut off his shirt. He winced slightly as some as of the pieces peeled off of the skin.
------ And there they were, Tony and Sarai, friends again and it felt great. He really had missed her. "this is going to take a little longer than the last time you were here. there's a lot of debris here." Tony again winced as the cold numbing gel first touched his skin. The cold being just as much of a shock as the touch. "Yeah... yeah... definitely would have preferred a bullet." He added with slight discomfort. But after a few moments it didn't hurt so badly as the numbing agent took effect. "so how are things?" He looked up at the gorgeous girl who, he had to admit, looked so... natural in those scrubs. They fit her so well, this career fit her so well. She was perfect for it, plus had the heart and strength it was going to require. He smiled and tried to shrug but it tugged on the skin a bit so he didn't do it fully, "Good, I guess. Worried about Anya lately though. She's constantly at the rink meaning something's wrong but... for me everythings doing good. Kicked everyones ass at baseball." He referenced where he had told her had to go right before they left each other that day. "What about you? How's that sister of yours?"

SARAI JORDANA MONTGOMERYVALKYRIE HOSPITAL, EMERGENCY ROOM, SEPTEMBER 2007 -----sarai loved her job. it was her passion. it was her calling. sure it got her into trouble sometimes and there were days when the work didn't seem to be getting her anywhere, but this really was one of the best things sarai had going for her in her life. how many other people could say that they at least attempted to save lives on a daily basis. aside from a cape wielding vigilante, there weren't many other candidates. it's true that the honor was all hers. not many people got opportunities like this and it was incredible to feel the kind of power she had over the human body. no i'm not talking about a womanly power of persuasion. i'm talking the literal feeling of having god in her hands. the power to pull blood from a body, operate on a heart, pump the blood back and thump the heart back into rhythm, the kind of power to bring life to a person, depending on the individual it really could go right to your head. sarai on the other hand considered the learning and the skills she'd acquired to be an honor, a privilege, and one she wasn't about to let slip through her fingers. it was why she took every opportunity to learn from her peers and from the residents at the hospital. it was just a major opportunity and sarai didn't know what else to do other than embrace it. she took every chance she got to learn something which was why she was in the e.r. examination room right now while her sister sat in an empty nursery with an off-duty nurse to keep her company. she'd owe her some serious ice cream for this one.
-----sarai was glad to see him, but this had to be the worst shape she'd yet to see him in. to tell you the truth it was a little unnerving. to see him so battered and bloody really emphasized that what he was doing out in that field was actually dangerous work. he wasn't just some guy in a suit sitting behind a desk and filing paperwork. that sarai might be happy with. that was safe. the worst thing to come from a desk job was a paper cut and that was easily fixed. but seeing him like this, upset her. tony really was out there every day risking his life to better her life and the lives of millions of other equally clueless people. just the thought made her want to hug him, but she refrained. not only was it unprofessional but she really didn't want to cause him any more pain that he was bound to be feeling. still, the need to hug him and uncharacteristically thank him for the "patriotic civil duty he fulfilled every day" was there. if not corny as hell. "well then we'll have to get you all bandaged up so you can get to healing then." sarai said in response to hanging without the burns. she looked up as he mentioned the bullet, shivering slightly. "do me a favor and don't say things like that. our last encounter was sheer dumb luck." sarai knew that first hand. she knew that damage bullets could make. with the crime rate in valkyrie she saw it first hand on more than one occasion. why just this week sarai had to cut a man open and retrieve four bullets from around his body, fixing the organs they'd managed to shred on their deadly path through him. sarai hated bullets. ever since employment at valkyrie hospital she'd made a point to spite the inventor of the bullet just about once a day.
-----a bright smile played over her lips as tony spoke about the bad guys losing. "well good." she nodded as she spoke adding a little more emphasis to her words. "well thank god that kind of took care of itself. aside from your own personal collateral damage, at least the meth lab's not up and running anymore." that would explain the rise in overdoses she'd seen over the past few weeks. maybe if she was lucky the numbers would show a little decline. yeah, good wishful thinking there sarai. she was simply thankful that tony wasn't hurt any more than he already was, especially since the idea of what had caused these burns damn near made her faint. "i'd probably be selfish of me to ask you to take it easy right? i mean i just got you back and look at you, almost blow to smithereens." she tried to be as gentle as possible when she was cutting away at his shirt but let's face it, there was going to be a little pain involved. she was just glad that tony wasn't like some of the whimpering burn victims she'd gotten. it made work that much more difficult to physically hear the pain she was causing them. "i just want your bod." sarai said sarcastically with a smirk, even though the statement held a lot more truth to it than she let on. sarai had learned to really control her emotions around tony. sure she hadn't done so great of a job the last time she'd been around him in the hospital, but hey, she'd been out of practice. six years out of practice.
-----"shush!" sarai said as tony mentioned bullets again. "damn those little devils. i hate them." she said in all seriousness. bullets were a bloody, gore-y mess. no way around it. she leaned her hands against the table, listening to him as he started to speak about anya and watching his arm at the same time. "what do you think is going on with her? i remember her getting some big phone call the day when you...well you know." sarai let the subject kind of fall away. they both knew where the 'you know' in question had landed them. "i mean it had sounded important but for all i know it could have been her just giving me the excuse to wander." and shame on her if it had been. sure what had wound up happening was great, and sarai was really thankful for it, but the time in between had been really, really hard. give her a broken, bloody body and sarai could handle it no questions asked. throw her into a situation that involved a best friend, sexual tension, and years of nothingness and the girl went mad.
-----she was brought back into reality with the mention of her sister. sarai scoffed as she leaned back, taking her hands off the table as she shook her head in disbelief. "actually, make that sisters." she said in a half-angry tone as she turned back to the supply station to retrieve some gloves. "it seems dr. morals broke a few of his own. i have a half sister." she grabbed the tweezers from the metal basin on the table and held it in her hand, staring at his arm for a moment, contemplating on starting, "oh but ainsley's fine. great actually. she's living with me. dunno if i told you that yet."

•• Tony Giovanni ••
I HEAR THE FORECAST AIN'T AS BAS AS IT SEEMS it should be clearing up soon if only in dreams ------------------------------------------ ------ So, Tony didn't tell many people this. Only Anya knew really. Tons of people said he could have gone into professional baseball. Tons of them, all the time. But what they didn't know was that he was offered that life. He was in the FBI training program, nineteen years old and playing on the academy team. After they won, he was approached by a tall but pudgy man in a boring grey suit but sporting an interesting, vintage yankees hat. He told him he was a scout and had an eye on him. And it was a good offer, but Tony turned it down. He loved baseball and there was nothing like the feeling of hitting a homer out of the park, but there was a better one and that was the feeling you got when you watched the kid you rescued be returned to their mother or father. He loved playing ball but he didn't even half to think twice about which life to chose. Anya always asked if he regretted it ever? And if the question was did he ever think about what his life could be life now if he had chosen that path, the answer would be yes, but the question of regret? No, not really. There were somedays he came home so drained, or in pain, or emotionally wiped that he would hate on himself for putting himself through it but he never regretted it, not for a moment. Besides, Anya would probably be dead or worse, some irish mafia men's play thing, at the moment had he gone for the big time. Plus, his job had the quality he loved most about baseball and most sports really, and that was teamwork. Had Tony done the regular college experience I could so see him joining a frat. Not the prick frat or the animal house frat but a nice in-between.
------ Besides, what would Sarai say had he sold out? Ha! No, Sarai would have just smiled and nodded and told him as long as he was sure it would make him happy. But come on, he lived for his job, even before he had it. He had lived for it since he was thirteen and took the more difficult turns for a Giovanni. "well then we'll have to get you all bandaged up so you can get to healing then." Tony nodded. Fuck he hated burns was all he could think of at the moment until... "do me a favor and don't say things like that. our last encounter was sheer dumb luck." Tony looked up at Sarai's eyes for a moment after she said that. Concern was in her voice. A bullet might kill you more often than a burn but dying by fire was far more painful and if they were going to be none deadly, bullets were easier and less painful to heal from. He would honestly have another bullet in his arm than be sitting here with singed flesh. But out of respect for Sarai, he gave a strong nod of understanding. He really didn't want her worrying about him, but seeing as he had now seen her twice in the hospital, once for a gunshot to the arm and once for a burnt arm, he doubted that would happen anytime soon. Yet another reason he wouldn't be good in a relationship. Not that he and Sarai were in one, or were going to be, or... whatever they were. He just tended to rationalize every time he could.
------ Tony smiled as she seemed pleased the men were taken in. "well thank god that kind of took care of itself. aside from your own personal collateral damage, at least the meth lab's not up and running anymore." Tony's smile stayed but with a bit less ease and a bit more force as he looked down at his arm and shrugged the opposite shoulder. "Sort of." He shook his head a bit, "The lab would have been shut down no matter what, but since the man had it rigged we have to scrounge for any evidence it might have been a meth lab." Really what the guy had done was smart. Maybe a bit stupid for him to think he could outrun the FBI's pistol but even in custody, it would be hard to get him now. All his clients were too scared to testify, and if the blast did in deed destroy evidence than he could get off with a fine for dangerous disruptive behavior for destroying his own house. "It's most likely in the blast, all our evidence of his running a lab was rendered useless and he could, with a good lawyer, get off and back on the streets with ease. Bastard was smart." "i'd probably be selfish of me to ask you to take it easy right? i mean i just got you back and look at you, almost blow to smithereens." Tony smirked slightly, wincing for a moment as some shirt pieces peeled off the beat red skin, "No, not at all. Besides, I was not nearly blown to smithereens, I'm just... a little well done at the moment." He replied with a small chuckle.
------ It was his job, what was he supposed to tell her, right? Maybe he should have replied with a cool nonchalant voice telling her, he sometimes got a thrill from being the one on the edge, always about to fall but never quite doing so. It was a rush being out there and knowing you're doing good. "damn those little devils. i hate them." Tony chuckled slightly at her reaction, "Yeah, and I hate fire hydrant red and slightly blackened flesh that I watched Dr. House spread maggots all over to clean and eat away the dead flesh of a burn victim." He laughed a bit. Like the one episode of House he had ever seen. Luckily, Tony wasn't burnt nearly as bad as that kid, as well as they didn't need to rid him of that layer to look for deeper complications as they did for the other kid on the show. But still, gross. "We can just agree they're all bad... including paper cuts." He added in slight conclusion. He hated paper cuts two, and thought it was completely unfair that paper could sting back. Tony took a deep breath as Sarai asked about Anya. He had no clue what was happening and he wasn't exactly a sit fown and talk about it guy. He smiled and nodded his head a bit before shaking it, "Oh you mean... No that call was just from her friend Audrey, nothing big. It's got to be somethin' else but hell if I know." Wow, great dad moment Tony.
------ Tony lied back a bit onto the curved exam table, trying to relax as Sarai worked and explained, "actually, make that sisters." Tony cocked his head to side slightly, looking up at her as she walked over to get supplies, her tone irritated. Sisters? "it seems dr. morals broke a few of his own. i have a half sister." Tony would have shivered at the sight of the pliers in her hand if he hadn't been so taken aback and amused and concerned by what Sarai had just said. He had to fight to not laugh and it failed, "Really? Wow. Who knew? Gotta appreciate the irony in that." He replied."oh but ainsley's fine. great actually. she's living with me. dunno if i told you that yet." Tony smiled, "No I didn't but I think that's good." He took a deep breath and nodded, "So... how old is she? Have you met her?"

SARAI JORDANA MONTGOMERYVALKYRIE HOSPITAL, EMERGENCY ROOM, SEPTEMBER 2007 -----it was almost painfully obvious how little sarai knew about the law, or working with it for that matter. sarai never really had all that much experience with people of the law. there was the rare occasion when sarai operated on someone who was handcuffed to their bed during recovery, but that was a very rare occurrence. afterward, she'd been asked a few questions about the operation, what was done, or what the tox screen was, but other than that, it was the closest to exposure of tony's life that sarai had ever gotten. needless to say, she didn't really mind being so oblivious. it was bad enough that she saw the damage people could do to themselves on a daily basis, it would be all that much worse to know just how horrible people on the outside could be. true that sarai saw the effects of the kind of pain people could inflict, but she didn't have to see it in person. she didn't have to see someone stare into another person's eyes and shoot them point blank. she didn't have to see someone standing in an alley giving out addicting drugs to a child or to anyone else who could pay for that matter. she didn't have to see a person attack another just for the money in their wallets. she saw the bruises, the cuts, the scrapes, and the overdosing, but at least she didn't have to sit there and watch people waste away.
-----it was sad though, the kind of outlook on life that a doctor or a cop could have. while many people went out and saw the good in life, choosing to ignore all of the bad, it was nearly impossible for sarai or probably even tony to forget all of that. how could you see all of the good in life when your job consisted of nothing but the bad. it almost seemed as though the routine heart attacks and strokes were a thing of the past. people didn't just get sick anymore. people didn't just fall asleep at the wheel because they were working too hard. they were drinking and driving or overdosing on drugs. honestly it really was hard to see the possibilities for the good in life when you were reminded again and again about just how terrible things really were. it was scary as well. seeing the kind of things that sarai saw, it was really hard to trust the world outside of what she knew. it was a scary thought that in no time ainsley would be riding the bus to school or walking to the park, some of the things that sarai had done as a child. to think of the many things that could happen to her on a daily basis. it was enough to make her want to lock them all in a safe house for the rest of her life. though sarai knew what kind of dangers there were out there, she had to believe that people like tony kept the streets the safest they could. there would always be that underlying danger out there to watch out for, that nervousness that made you pace the floor your child's first day of pre-school, but there was always someone looking out for them. there was always some watchful eye on those less fortunate, those who could not look out for themselves. it damn near gave sarai hope.
-----needless to say, she knew little about preserving crime scenes and such aside from what she may have seen when channel surfing. sarai winced slightly as tony contradicted her, well that certainly wouldn't be the first time. "shows you just how little i know about forensics." sarai said with a small smile that fell pretty much the moment it showed itself. it wasn't a good feeling to know that a guy like that would get off with little punishment. though it felt good to know that one meth lab was gone, knowing that another could pop up once this guy was out of jail was not all that comforting. "well in that case i'm sorry you're extra crispy for nothing." well done was right. sarai was sure there was nothing super disastrous about the condition of his arm, but it certainly wasn't the kind of state she liked seeing him in. sarai liked to see tony at his best, cocky, confident, and whole preferably. could you blame the girl for hating bullets? she saw what kind of damage one little pointed piece of metal could do to a body, or a series of those little fleck of metal, but still. she'd lost numerous lives to bullet wounds that she just couldn't get fixed in time. and it was definitely not her favorite wound, that was for sure. "haha, house. they definitely have a way of pouring on the theatrics, but it is impressive." television had a way of hamming it up. finding new ways to fix wounds, new, rare diseases to focus on, all of which just gave the hypochondriacs more fuel for their fires, but it was nice to see that people had an interest in medical shows.
-----sarai chuckled as tony mentioned paper cuts. "oh those are the worst." as the topic transitioned to her sisters sarai became just the slightest bit on edge. she really had no idea what to do about all of this. she couldn't even put to words just how pissed off she was at her father. she startled as tony laughed at it, laughed at the fact that sarai had been surprised by a new sister, and laughed at the fact that he'd finally gotten the last laugh on her father. for some reason that didn't help her at all, it just made her angry. "i don't appreciate anything about this situation." sarai spat back, surprising herself with how much anger littered her tone. she put the pliers back in the metal basin and turned away from him, shaking her head angrily. why was she so tense about this? maybe because this had turned her whole world upside down and tony thought it was a joke? maybe it was because she'd assumed he would have known just how hard this would have hit her and would have been a little...supportive? who knew, but she managed to collect herself and turn back to tony, grabbing the pliers as she got to work. "sixteen. i met her a few days ago." she finally answered as she began pulling debris from tony's burns.
