PERSONAL STYLE: Rayne basically wears whatever he feels like, and he doesn't like to follow a specific style. Whenever possible, he actually prefers to be without shoes or shirt, but this will usually get him scolded by his mother or other people in public establishments. Otherwise he's definitely a jeans and button up shirt or t-shirt type of guy.

IN YOUR MOUTH, IN YOUR SOUL ,
CHARACTER PERSONALITY ,
the more we move ahead the more we're stuck in rewind
STRENGTHS: Rayne is always good at changing his mind, especially at the expense of others emotions. He tends to drive the people in his life a little crazy, which isn't exactly a good strength. Other than that, his strengths include any sort of sporting activity or things in nature such as hiking or rock climbing and what not.
WEAKNESSES: Commitment. That is pretty much his only weakness. When he starts to feel trapped in any situation, whether it be big or small, he immediately feels the need to run away.
LIKES: Sports, girls, eating, sleeping, jogging, music, making people laugh, summer weather, nature, playing with fire, animals, exploring unknown areas, getting lost, big groups of people and adrenaline rushes.
DISLIKES: Commitment, following rules, being idle, waking up early, hurting people (even though he does it sometimes, on accident), being at home, horror movies, coffee, reality TV and shopping.
FLAWS: As far as personality flaws, he's too indecisive for most people. And this can get very annoying, especally when you deal with him for long periods of time. He can also be a little too intense. When he sets his mind to something, whether it be getting something specific to eat or going somewhere, he will disregard all other people and things in his life to get to that particular item or place. He is very maddening.
HABITS: Drumming his fingers, loudly, especially when he is irritated or bored.
SECRETS: Rayne firmly believes that his mother killed his dad long before he killed himself.
BEST MEMORY: Rayne can't really pick one, he's had so many great memories. But his best memories always include some sort of extreme sport.
WORST MEMORY: Finding out about his dad passing away. He was in shock for over a year, but has come to terms with it recently.
OVERALL PERSONALITY: Rayne is definitely spontaneous. His whole life, he has really never been the type of guy to stop and think about what he's doing, and he definitely never has a plan. Whenever he has tried to plot something out in his head, or with other people, he always ends up doing something else, despite how other people may react to his actions. He's very indecisive, and he definitely does not like the feeling of being obligated to do somethig. In fact, telling Rayne to do something is a sure way to get the absolute opposite reaction. And this could be about anything, big or small, from making his bed to choosing to go to college. People who know him well know not to ask things of him, but wait patiently for him to eventually do the right thing (even though most people don't have the patience or desire to do so, at least, not for a long time). His heart is good- he would never try to do something to hurt someone. But sometimes it happens, especially when he feels like he needs to be saving himself from something.
The boy is also a bit wreckless- no, he isn't crazy, but he does enjoy the rush of things most people would be a little too scared to try. Rayne lives for adrenaline- and he will get his fix by climbing tall trees, diving into the ocean from the highest cliffs, and even going on roller coasters. This is an interest he developed from his dad, a man who shared the same passion. Besides the big things, there are some other daily activities he participates in that give him the same rush, such as skateboarding and surfing, or even occasionaly taking his BMX bike to the skate park. Rayne definitely likes to surround himself with people who like to do the same things he does, like play football or go to parties or concerts, or he probably wont hang out with you. If you bore him, you immediately lose him. However, if you are able to break through Rayne's tricky exterior and be-friend him, you've landed yourself a friend for life.
But besides his wild side, Rayne hides something deep down...and that is a lot of heartache. He has learned to hide this pain like a champion- but sometimes he over does it with his mask, and people actually think he doesn't care about anything. But inside, he really does. He just doesn't know how to express his feelings. His mother had a tough life herself, and to this day Rayne still doesn't know many details, but whatever happened to her caused her to be less affectionate than most mothers should be. Therefor, Rayne isn't very affectionate either, even though he sometimes wants to be. Unless the emotion is a happy or excited one, he simply doesn't know how to portray it. But again, because he isn't shy or reserved or open about his past, he comes off as indifferent about everything. Many people find this to be a turn off about him, and people even choose not to deal with him because of his behavior. The truth is that he can't help himself. He wants to change, but has no idea how.
Other than that, Rayne is a great guy to have as a friend. He loves to make his friends and people he cares about laugh, and he will definitely show you a good time whenever you're together. Also, he is very loyal- and he will defend the people he cares about if anyone else tries to step in and cause any trouble. If need be, he isn't afraid to use physical action. In fact, he even finds getting into the occasional fight to be fun...yes, another way to get his adrenaline rush (but he will absolutely never go picking fights for no reason). Overall, he likes to have a good time with people who like to have a good time too. Just don't try and get too real with him, especially not too soon...because that is the best way to lose him.
AND WE'LL BOTH GROW OLD ,
CHARACTER HISTORY ,
well i don't know, i don't know, i don't know, i hope so
HOMETOWN: Valkyrie, California.
PARENTS: Hank Shepard, deceased.
Carmen Villa, 45, lawyer.
SIBLINGS: none
OTHER: A golden retriever, about 4 years old. Her name is Honey. She was a birthday gift from his father.
LIVING SITUATION: Valks
HISTORY: Life for Rayne has always had a very typical appearance on the outside. Looking in, their family always seemed to be normal. But that was never the case- not from day one. Rayne's parents met while there were in college, The University of Valkyrie, to be specific. Hank had grown up there, while Carmen had come all the way from Barcelona to attend the prestigious school. Long story short, they fell in love- and quickly. And it was there that the story of their dysfunctional relationship began. See, Rayne's parents never got married...but they might as well have been. After college they moved in together, and not too long after that, they had Rayne. The desire for them to get married was still never there, at least, not on Carmens end. She thought marriage was pointless, and that it would only lead to bad things. Whether she was right or wrong didn't really matter- the relationship, as they were keeping it, was bound to fail.
They were together, living in the same house, for most of Rayne's childhood. In fact, unless they told you otherwise, people just assumed they were married. His parents were lucky, and they got themselves great jobs early on in their careers. And this is why Rayne is so lucky to live in the Valks. They lived a very plush life, and for the most part, they were always really happy and having fun. There were a couple times when it seemed hopeful that Rayne's mom would agree to getting married, but that just never happened. She changed her mind a lot about not only that, but about whether or not she even wanted to be in Valkyrie or not. Many times she took extended trips to Spain to see her family, never taking Rayne or Mr. Shepard with her. There was even one occasion where she was gone for three months. These trips were the most frequent when Rayne was younger, about age five through fifteen. She eventually stopped going for such long periods of time, and even took Rayne three or four times so he could meet his family over there. It was difficult for him, not speaking any Spanish, but he really enjoyed the trips with his mother. Now, as he's older, Rayne has no desire to go to Spain anymore. His mother has gone back to her extended trips, leaving Rayne behind to stay with his dad or be alone in her house.
As a result, most of his childhood was spent with his father, both when his parents were living together and when they weren't. With mom gone all the time, Rayne did many activities his dad enjoyed, especially when he was younger because Mr. Shepard simply couldn't leave Rayne home alone. From the time he was very young, Hank took his son fishing, surfing, swimming in the ocean, rock climbing, cliff diving, and camping. The two men even enjoyed just camping out in the back yard on the occasion, just for one night. It was through all this father son bonding that Rayne not only developed every single interest her holds today, but he developed a strange sense of relationships. In fact, he developed a strange sense of women in general. Being a witness of such emotional abuse, and from a woman to a man, well...it made Rayne almost fear women. Or, at least, feel that it was impossible to trust them, as if they always had some sort of trick up their sleeve. Long story short, he grew up to think that every other woman that would even come into his life would be like his mother. Someone who would suck you in, trap you there, then drive you to your last wits.
When his parents finally decided to give up their relationship (really, when Hank decided he was done trying to chase Carmen and get her to marry him.), Hank moved to another house in the Valks. And this happened when Rayne was about eleven years old, so he remembers the whole ordeal rather well. There have been several different girlfriends that have come and gone in Hanks life, but none were able to leave a lasting impression in his heart. His fathers heart has been breaking, and Rayne has witnessed it his entire life. Growing up around his mother, and seeing her affects on his father, has made him become a little bit of both of them. He can't make up his mind about anything, big or small, thanks to his mom, and he's afraid of committing himself to someone and getting hurt, like his dad did. Their little threesome was dysfunctional, and things couldn't have possibly gotten any worse. But they did.
Carmen took a great toll on Hank, more than she must have realized. After he moved out, and realized that any hope of making her his was gone, Hank started slipping into a depression. Even the quality time he had with their son didn't seem to ease the pain. At some point, when Rayne was sixteen, Carmen tried to take Hank to court and demand that his time with Rayne be limited (his parents had gotten into several verbally violent spats over a couple different things). The court sessions lasted for about four months, but they didn't end with a solution given by the judge. Hank committed suicide, leaving all his money to his only son, by prescription drug overdose. And that decision has left a great scar on Rayne's heart. Even though he got all the money his father had, which was quite a large sum, it obviously wasn't enough to ease the pain. Of course, Rayne's relationship with his mother is now nonexistent. She doesn't seem to think that Hanks death was her fault whatsoever, and she didn't even have the nerve to come to the funeral of the man she spent her best years with. Of the man who gave her the son she claims to love so much. Despite it all, Rayne still lives his life the way his father used to- adventurous. And he always has a happy face on. Its been three years since his dad has been gone, and Rayne has been healing well. Of course, he will always miss him, but Rayne is sure that Hank Shepard still lives on in his heart.
