BODY TYPE: nate has worked as a mechanic basically his whole life so he's pretty well-built. he's tall and his weight is spread over his height, but he's also got muscular arms. his legs are quite as muscular because most of his work is in his upper body.
DISTINGUISHED FEATURES: his eyes are the first thing anyone seems to notice about him because they're so outrageously blue, but besides that he's a good little boy and doesn't have any tattoos or piercings.
PERSONAL STYLE: while still in oregon, and even during his stay in los angeles, nate wore his uniform of a tee-shirt and jeans. usually the tee is white and the jeans are faded. however, since moving to valkyrie and being forced into an occupation that is, although not drastically different from his routine mechanic's work, still differs enough for him to feel a change in himself. now, he may be seen wearing a casual suit when out in the town - since he didn't have much opportunity to go 'out' back in podunk, orgeon - and sometimes he wears polos instead of tee-shirts.

WORST MEMORY: when his grandfather died. sure, he was only three years old at the time, but he still remembers the funeral. it was sort of imprinted in his little mind at the time and he can't forget it. he adored his grandpa ellison, and he wishes he could have gotten to know him better.
OVERALL PERSONALITY: nate takes life very seriously and respects everything he's gotten in life. since birth, he's been a serious person - the doctors were fairly certain he frowned at them when there was a difficulty getting his sister penny out - and that hasn't changed up until this day. although he's serious, he is able to joke around, if only with his beloved family. he lets down his guard when he's around his brother and sisters in particular, and he has the tendency to be mellow around their parents.
always looking at himself as the protector for his siblings, nate took too much responsibility on himself from childhood. his serious nature instantly turned him into a child with way too much maturity for his age, and he thought he had to take care of everyone by the time he hit the five year mark. since most of his life revolved around his family's downfall, his personality turned into a protective shield so his family wouldn't have to feel the brunt of the heartbreak. because he turned himself into the human shield, he seems a bit impenetrable at times. even though he really isn't standoffish, he's pretty quiet and subdued in public so he seems like a loner, and sometimes he's even mistaken as an asshole simply because he's not the one to say hello first.
nathaniel is also very down-to-earth. he appreciates the earth - not in a creepy hippy sort of way, don't get me wrong - and what society can get from it. coming from a small town, he grew up in a more rural setting than most folks in the big cities or in Valkyrie, so he's used to being out in the open with nothing but the sun and grass. he's not likely to blow up at anyone or even to get angry easily simply because he's very easygoing and mellow. he's kindhearted - not your guy to kick a puppy, call someone else - and he genuinely cares about other people.

HISTORY: the story of the sutton clan is your typical power family falls from grace story. well... sorta... keizer, oregon isn't your typical high society. it's a teeny little town on the outskirts of salem (a name you may have actually heard?) and everyone knows everyone and what everyone else is doing all the time. charles and emilia sutton grew up in this town, married in this town, and started their family in this town. and that all fell apart when charles's father, ellison, had a heart attack after the couple announced emilia's pregnancy with their fourth child. nathaniel and his only two siblings - at the time - was only three when his grandfather died, but he will remember it until he follows the old man to the grave. nate had been on his grandfather's knee practically from the moment he and his brother and sister were born, and he was the one who was supposed to take on the family business and fortune when he reached the right age. but that was never meant to be.
when nate, wes, and penelope were only three years old, their entire world crashed around them. although they were young, nate still remembers what it was like before, and it's like a hazy dream of what could be and not what actually once was. his baby sister carly was born soon after the fall of their family, and nate did his best to shield her from what the rest of them had gone through. of course, only so much shielding can be done when someone doesn't even understand what they're being shielded from. before his grandfather's death, nathaniel was the brightest, happiest little child - all blue eyes and brown hair but all of that changed with the realization that his world was not what he had dreamed it would be. throughout school, he was tortured by the stares and comments behind his back about his family, and it drove him deep within himself. he grew to be closed off from everyone except for those he was closest to, namely his relatives.
throughout the summers of his high school career, nate helped his father on various construction jobs and grew tan and well-built and excrutiatingly desireable to the young ladies. however, he was rather oblivious to his own good looks, and his family's nonexistant status prevented him from actually taking girls out on dates, so he became an enigma to the girls in his school. they wanted him because of his good looks and forbidden place in the community, but they hated him because of the black mark that was his family. when nate went into his junior year of high school, he began a part-time job at the local mechanic - a place he had been hanging around since he was five years old and had loved ever since - to bring in extra money for the family. never thinking of himself first, all of his money went to his parents, and after work he would head straight home and take a long nap out beneath the trees in the woods near to his home.
because of his self-ordained solitude, he didn't have too many friends in school and didn't particularly care. however, he managed to find love when it practically fell into his lap... literally. during his senior year of high school, he was working at the mechanic as usual and there was an accident. one of the lifts broke and the car on top of it began to fall. everyone started running and freaking out, but nate realized why it was falling. someone was on top of the car! as the car fell, the girl on top of it fell off and nate grabbed her and whisked her out of the path of destruction just in time. it just happened the girl was the mechanic's daughter who had been fooling around in the rafters with some no-name football player and had fallen through, landing heavily on the car and giving the lift too much weight to hold. in that split second, she had tipped the scale and caused the destruction. the girl's name was delilah, and although she was dating one of the school's most popular boys and happened to be one of the most popular girls as well, she instantly became interested in the silent outcast with the devastatingly blue eyes who had saved her life. the two began dating a few months later, and moved to los angeles together when delilah got accepted to ucla. nate worked as a mechanic in la while his girlfriend attended college, and he told himself deep down that he would ask her to marry him one day. sadly, that day never came.
after a year of living in los angeles, nate got word that his parents and youngest sister were moving to valkyrie after carly got pregnant and then was forced to give her child into adoption. knowing his family needed him again, nate decided to leave to join them as soon as possible. not wishing to drag delilah down, he wrote her a note - and felt rather lame about it in the meantime - and departed before she had the chance to follow him. he moved to valkyrie with his small suitcase and his beat-up old gto, starting a new life with his family once more. since mechanics aren't too popular in the sun and shine of california - they're usually a bit too greasy to be seen in public with all of the pretty faces - nate had trouble finding work, but he finally managed to get a job working as a chaffeur, and he fixes the limos on the side. he rents a modest apartment near to his workplace and lives to support his family, regretting every moment that he can't do more.
