Charlotte, Michigan. Such a nice town full of upstanding families and good kids. Most of their parents are rich and their kids are teenagers. The kids are very trustworthy and never do anything wrong. It’s the vision of a perfect town…a perfect society. What could possibly go wrong? Or, at least, that’s what the parents think.
Everyone's a let down
It just depends on how far down they can go
In every circle of friends, there's a whore
The one who flirts and does a little more
But who's to say this is a social scene anyway
The parents in Charlotte are so naïve. The high school students basically run the show. They are the ones on top in the town and they’re the ones that everyone is interested in. The stores are selling to them, the parks are there for them, the teachers are there for them. Every job within the entire town is there just for them. Or, at least, they think so.
And everybody wants to explore the new girl
Cut up in her own hard liquor world
But liquor doesn't exist in my world
But liquor doesn't exist in my world
You couldn’t get more screwed up if you tried. Their all spoiled rich kids whose parents give them whatever they want so they can do whatever they want. They lie, gossip, spread rumors, do drugs, get drunk, etc. There couldn’t be a larger group of people who didn’t pay any attention to the rules. The rules are for boring people, those who walk the line are those that know how to have fun.
And if you lie, you don't deserve to have friends
If you lie, you don't deserve to have them
If you lie, you don't deserve to have friends
If you lie
Charlotte High School is full of cliques and labels. If you happen to be seen near someone with a bad reputation, even if you aren’t affiliated with them in the least, your reputation could be ruined forever. They’re like mean reporters. No one is safe from the gossip, even the best. Even if you do nothing wrong, someone will make something up about you, don’t worry about that.
You are a sell out
But you couldn't even do that right
So your price tag has been slash
And now you're chilling on a half priced clearance rack
You never know who to trust. Sure, you have your friends, but who knows when they’ll decide to turn around and stab you in the back. People are always changing here. Survival of the fittest. You don’t work in groups or teams; you watch your own back and take care of yourself. You can’t trust anyone and no one can trust you. You may stab someone in the back without even realizing it, but you still did it, and for that, you’ll either come spiraling downhill, or be put up so high in the social latter that your ears pop.
The social scene where she gets her fix
Has been broken since '86
And just look at that social clique
Do you really wanna be a part of it?
Laws? Yeah right. You’ll be hard pressed to find a teenager in Charlotte who doesn’t have a fake I.D. If you took an anonymous poll asking how many people have broken the law even just once, you’d find 100%. The only time people in Charlotte can actually manage a good grade. You see, there are those who worry about studying and school, but most are too busy going out and partying. Why would you want to read a book when you could be burning with your neighbor?
Let's not let us forget where she gets the habit
She gets the pills from her skills
And she gets the skills from the pills
And just look at that clique
Do you really wanna be the star of it?
You think you have secrets, but you have no idea. The major gossipers know all about you and won’t stop until they bring you down. There are those people whose job it is to find out your secrets and have no problem spreading it around to the entire school in 6.2 seconds. Nothing stays secret for long here, but don’t worry, there are so many lies running around that no one really knows what the truth is anymore…but it’s all assumed to be true until proven otherwise…and even still after that.
You are a sell out
But you couldn't even do that right
So your price tag has been slash
And now you're chilling on a half priced clearance rack
God only knows what the parents in this town are smoking. Their kids stay out all night, come home drunk or stoned, buy slutty outfits, bring someone of the opposite sex home with them, obviously for sex, and they still seem to think that everything is just perfect. Well, thanks to their obliviousness and apparent stupidity, the kids can do whatever they want…and they do.
And if you lie, you don't deserve to have friends
If you lie, you don't deserve to have them
If you lie, you don't deserve to have friends
If you lie
Yeah, it may seem chaotic and crazy, but it’s effective. You’re not a person when you’re here, you’re a label. You’re the jock or the teacher’s pet or the sweet one or the teen mom. You don’t get to choose who you are, your peers choose for you. So sit, back, relax, and enjoy the show. Think about it this way…at least you’re known for something.
