War.
That's what made this place so desolate. So cold and cruel. It was a battle between the alliances and there was no mercy to be shown. The darks were on an attempt to wipe out the lights. The lights were going to wipe out the neutrals, and the neutrals were going to wipe out the darks. No one could survive the battle of bloods that followed.
Blood showered the ground, blazing into the soil and killing the grass within seconds of the battle's start. A roll of thunder crashed through the trees and lightning snapped dead logs off of the ground and down the cliff to the bottom of the hill. Rain washed blood into the river staining it forever with crimson and a coppery taste.
As the war went on, a mysterious stallion charged into the midst of them. He rescued countless horses from death, only to have them crushed by another horse as they tried to catch their breath and instead had it smashed from them. When the battle was over, only three remained other than that stallion.
One dark. Jalapeno.
One neutral. Armada.
One light. Silverado.
And the stallion that had saved them. Viper.
Viper's chestnut pelt gleamed with sweat, and the other's shone with blood. Jalapeno had a broken leg, caused by a fall down the cliff. Armada had lost one ear to a vicious dark. Silverado had been blinded when lightning struck a tree just infront of her and the fire had caught them.
Viper had one scar along his cheek and down his neck, ending in the center of his chest. One drop of crimson blood trickled down it as he stared at the three warriors and came to a stop just above his heart.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Three years later, the young horses and Viper had all learned to live with what they had. Silverado was learning to use her other senses. Armada could move her ear to hear everything around her. Jalapeno still walked with a limp but had worked the muscle to a strong steel beneath his fur. Viper had told them his secret, and they respected him for it.
He was immortal. He could not die. Not ever.
Jalapeno and Armada soon became mates, and Viper and Silverado fell in love shortly after. While they have not yet had any foals together, they will soon.
