In Tree Hill, North Carolina, nothing is what it looks like. It would seem that last summer was chaotic to say the least. While Lucas Scott was left alone for the summer when Brooke Davis left, Haley James Scott came home from her tour, but her husband Nathan Scott would give her none and kept pushing her away. Haley turned to her best friend Lucas, since he was the only one left for her. Even Peyton Sawyer wouldn’t give our tutor girl the light of day anymore. It seems that Peyton has taken sides, Nathan’s side, in this case. Nathan and Peyton have been hanging out all summer, as have Lucas and Haley, to try to get their lives back on track. While Nathan and Haley aren’t really talking anymore, Lucas and Peyton remain good friends.
Three months later, summer has ended and Brooke comes home. She thinks it’s the same old Tree Hill she left, but that wasn’t quite the case. Lucas and Haley are dating now? The two best friends? Whatever happened to Lucas wanting to be with Brooke? Well, since Brooke left, Lucas was pretty lonely and so was Haley, ergo the dating between the two, though it seems really weird, to say the least. And Nathan and Peyton are dating now too? How nostalgic, yeah? But behind the scenes, there are even things no one knows about... Before the two couples became actual couples, Nathan and Haley slept together. Now, you’d think that was ludicrous since Nathan kept pushing Haley away, but the truth is that he thought he could forgive her, so one night, they became intimate. But Nathan still couldn’t get over it. Now that Haley is dating Lucas and Peyton is dating Nathan, they both feel weird about their night together. It’s up to them now to tell the truth... Or not...
Back to Brooke. Yeah, she came home, but Lucas wouldn’t really notice her lately. Brooke kind of feels left out with everyone dating and being busy with each other. So when it turns out that Chris Keller followed Haley back to town, he is sort of the only one she can turn to, and that’s really weird. When Chris and Brooke have kissed, the next day her friends are asking about it. But wait, how do they know? Oh, of course... Chris blabbed about it to everyone, great. Now that everyone thinks Brooke and Chris are involved, they sort of alienate the girl, causing her to drink at prom one night, then driving home drunk. Only, she doesn’t make it home. She ends up in the hospital, but Chris isn’t there. He left again to go on tour, without telling anyone. The only person who visits Brooke at the hospital is Peyton.
But a few days after Brooke gets out of the hospital, an earthquake hits Tree Hill. People shouldn’t leave their homes during it, is what they advised. But during the earthquake, which was at night, Brooke ran into Lucas at the café, wanting to talk to him about their relationship which is really nonexistent. It’s a coincidence, because Haley went to Nathan’s place to sign their divorce papers, but will they go through with it? Where is Peyton at this time, you ask? Well, at the time of the earthquake, Jake Jagielski was the one knocking on her door, and the two talked, until the earthquake arrived and Peyton got hit by a bookcase that fell on her. Jake of course, took care of her.
A few days after, there’s a party at the beach house, a night no one will forget, actually. This is the night where Nathan and Haley’s secret comes out. They’re talking about it at the party, when Lucas overhears it and a brawl between the brothers breaks out. When Peyton finds out, she and Haley go at it as well. No one is on speaking terms after that and it’s all bad. But someone is getting the gang back together, and that person is none other than Brooke. She tricks everyone into meeting up, sending them notes about having dinner with just her, only it’s not just her... She invites everyone, and though they all want to leave, she demands they stay. Even though, they all pretty much cut her out, she still loves every single one of her friends. She succeeds in her task, after her speech, everything is sort of back to normal. Only now, everyone has to decide who they want to be with. Will it still be Lucas and Haley? Nathan and Peyton? Or will the tables get turned?
