The man working the counter smiled, handing the girl her change.
"Nix the whipped cream on my frapp, okay Johnny?" The girl said, her voice honey-smooth. The guy nodded, turning to the blenders to make her drink. She walked away from the counter, plopping down on one of the cushy funky-hippie patterned loveseats. She drew her slim legs up, her classic black pencil skirt bunching up a bit. She sighed, twisting her hair in her fingers. She needed some company. Her parent's divorce was driving her nuts.
"Hey, Lex, your drink is ready." The Johnny kid said, smiling once again.
"Can you bring it over here, please?" Although it was a phrased as a question, her voice said there was no room for anything other than yes.
Soon she felt the cool plastic against her pale hands, french-manicured fingernails tapping the cup to the beat in her head.
"Thanks, buddy." She said quietly, taking the rest of the paper wrapping off the straw.

If Starbucks had a bell it would have jingled as Reed entered the homey coffee-smelling store. He shook his hair out of his face as his eyes adjusted to the room. Was he here for the coffee? Naw. Is computer fried again, another stupid report he had to do research for. No way was he going back up to the school. Starbucks had nice computers connected to the Interent.
There weren't that many people in there today. But, he did reconize one person. A girl actually. But, was he going to stroll up there and say 'hi.'" No, did he ever do that? Maybe he would just wait for her to notice him. Even if he had to fall and choke in front of her to do it.

Alex's eyes caught a movement by the door, and she felt her heart slow down and speed up at the same time. This wasn't a normal thing.
She sipped her drink, willing her phone to ring so that he would look over and she could say something brilliant.
No such luck. She'd have to do it all on her own.
"Johnny?" She said, setting her drink down on the small coffee table to the side of the couch, "Do me a favor?" She said, as soon as the boy's face appeared before her.
"Of course!" He exclaimed, always happy to help a customer.
She stretched her arms up, her black t-shirt tightening around her flat stomach, "Get me a muffin," She stood, walking towards the counter, "And get Reed a coffee, on me." She whispered as she walked past Johnny to grab a packet of sugar.
She wasn't the type to strike up a conversation, but she was the type to bribe someone into starting a conversation with her.

He slowly made his way to a free computer. The bad thing was his back was to her. He logged on, but before he could connect to the Internet, Johnny, the hyper employee of Starbucks, came up to him and shoved a coffee into his face. "Black right? That's what you usually get when you come here, Reed."
Reed shook his head, "Not today Johnny. Two words: Major Hangover. Nonsense had it's opening last night."
"Oh, it's not on the house. It's from your friend over there," he said and placed the cup in Reed's hands before he could do anything about. Reed smiled. So, it had worked. He turned his body around and smiled and her. Alex. The junior he had a class with. He got up, grabbing his leather jacket with laid over his chair.
"So, Alex, bribing me with coffee?" he asked and slid next to her on the two-person couch. He set the coffee on the coffee table. But, not before taking a sip. It would have been rude not to have done nothing at all.

She smiled, her eyes glinting with joy.
"Well, I assume it's easier to bribe you than to actually talk to you. It seems that whenever anyone says your name too loudly, a gaggle of fangirls come running up." She laughed, then continued, "Or do you pay them to do that? Is it their day off?"
She was suddenly thinking about kissing him. What was wrong with her? They had barely started their conversation, and already her mind was wondering into fantasyland. Not good. She cleared her throat dantily, pulling her phone out to check the time. She only had to attend one class today; she was the Photography class model this week, and she still had a good hour and a half before she had to show.

He laughed and stretched, "More like my day off," he said with another laugh. "But, Alex, that's why I like you. You don't come running up to me and try and rip my shirt off," he side glanced at her before continuing.
"So, are you going to the beach party this weekend?" he asked, interested. True, that if she didn't want to go there would be no sense in going either. He would most likely return to Nonsense and just...order things they needed possibly or something boring but rathering than the bonfire.

She smiled sweetly, "Yeah, I'm going. I need to de-stress. The 'Rents are splitting up, and I've been getting calls every three minutes from the both of them," She sighed, "Honestly, I don't know why. I'm home for three weeks a year. That's it. I don't see why they're making me choose a side." She shook her head, then blushed when she realized she was just pouring her feelings out to this boy.
"But anyway, I guess I'm going. I've got my clothes picked out for it already, anyway. What about you? Are you going to be a real teenager for a day, instead of being an over-worked, over-stressed kid like usual?" She said this in reference to Reed's job at the club. The sleezy manager spent his time hitting on naive girls when he was around, while Reed took care of the club.
It was kind of pathetic.

Reed's heart dropped. Shit, her parents are getting divorced. That must be brutal. With out thinking, he rubbed her back as she told him the synopsis. "That sucks," he said summing it up. "But, hey, you're going to the party. I'm going to the party. We should see each other. I'll look for you..count on it," he said is accent thick.
He retrieved his arm, not realizing it was still there. He cleared his throat, "Yeah, the club is just...there. Last night was a riot. Literally. Spent most of the morning cleaning it up. But, I spend more time there than I do at my so called apartment. But anyways, I haven't seen you at Nonsense yet. It would make my night to see you come."

Alex smiled, cheeks flushed, "I'd love to come some time. I haven't been to any sort of club since...I can't even remember when. Probably when summer started." Her back felt empty suddenly, missing the warmth of the boy's hand on her back.
"Who's in the lineup for this week? Anyone good?" She asked, hoping someone she could enjoy would be playing. She could use a good night of clubbing, especially if Reed would be around.
Suddenly, her phone began to vibrate loudly, fightening her. "Oh!" She exclaimed, looking at the name on the screen. It was unknown. She frowned, pushing her phone with her finger. She didn't want to read it if she didn't know the person.

"Even if I told you, I doubt you'd now. Hell, some of the bands who want to perform at the club I don't even know who they are. But, maybe if you stop by before we open for the night I can tell you. Or, you know, after the club closes if you want. I'd be glad stop doing my homework and talk with you," he told her, saying probably too much than he ment.
"Who is it?" he asked as he saw her jump at the sound of her cell.
"So, anything interesting happening for you today?" he asked. She probably would have a better day than he would. School, he wouldn't be able to concentrate today, it sucked that bad. He could guess this would have to be the high-light of his day and it hardly had begun.

She blushed, "I probably will stop by, but I'm a heat-of-the moment type of person. If I do, it'll be in the middle of everything," She smiled, her hand coming to a rest at the base of her neck, "Unknown. I'll read it later. Maybe." She looked away from him, thinking of how her day, and the previous one, had been.
"Horrible, to be honest." She answered, "School was awful. I did manage to get everything done in class, including my work for College Literature I. Other than that, all I've done has been set my stuff up at my place in the Valks, and come here." She laughed, proud of the fact that she was allowed in an all-senior class. "Pretty sad, huh?"
College Literature is an Honors English class that works with college-level material instead of stuff most people do in highschool. It was tough, but worth it.

"Even if you show and I'm serving twenty other people, I'll make sure to stop and give you my attention. One of the other bartenders can do my dirty work, that is, if you want to make time with me?" he asked.
It was a long shot, for al he knew, he was talking with someone that could not even like him. That made it all more difficult for Reed. He had never liked someone where he wasn't sure if they liked him back. Was she bored to hell with him right now? He knew now, that he liked her... a lot. Damn, he did not want to do much of anything unless it involved talking with her. Why did he try and impress girls he liked a lot? He just wanted to...not he even knew.
Call him love's bitch, but at least he was man enough to admit it.

Just as Alexandra was about to say something, she stopped herself, the wheels in her brain beginning to turn.
She could take control now, and not have to worry about anything later. Hard to get was better than anything. It made people take an interest.
"I'll have to check my schedule, but I'll probably be able to make time. You're a sweet guy; I haven't met enough of those." She said, voice silky smooth. She needed to make him take a real interest, just to make sure he'd be hooked.

Wasn't exactly what he expected but he could deal, "Here, I'll give you my number..." he said as he reached in his back pocket for his pen, and for his notebook, which was beneath his coffee he barely touched.
"Thank you, Lex, for the coffee. You didn't have to," he took another sip and placed once more on the table. He scribbled his cell number on the piece of paper. And tore it off. He went to hand it to her but stopped, he wagged it in front of her, "Now, Lex, this is an extremely top-secret number. This got intot he worng hands...whoo...it would be Paris Hilton's sidekick all over again," he handed it to her.

She laughed, eyes looked away. That was a pretty good joke.
"Don't worry, I'll be sure to write it on every wall in the school." She said, being her usual bitchy-yet-nice self. "Or I'll just put it in my phone. One of the two." She answered, patting his shoulder. She leaned in close, her lips gazing his ear, and began to whisper into it.
"I'd give you my number, but I have a better idea. I'll text you later on, from my brother's phone, and my text will have a place for us to meet. You meet me there, you get my number." She said, a sly smile on her face.
Only the best of the best got her number, and she was sure he qualified.
