'Since when did a teacher supervise what happened in the courtyard?' Reed asked as he sat in one of the older desks in the detention room.
He looked at the detention supervisor, who Reed would have to say, must be in his early hundreds. The teacher sat in the front of the room, staring...glaring at Reed, that Reed shifted in his seat. The bell had rang only a few minutes earlier and no one else had entered the room. It scared Reed. He didn't want to be stuck here alone with Mr. Ancient. Then again, it was only the first week of school, who else got in trouble this early in the school year?
Why did Reed get stuck here? So, during his free period in the courtyard, he lit a smoke. Ten minutes later, a teacher can running up to him and bitched him out, Talking about how smoking is not allowed in school, it can hurt your health, blah blah blah. Next thing he knew he had a detention.
Great, just great.

Kelsey made her way down the hallway and into the detention room. She wasn’t one to usually get detention, well, wasn’t one to go when it was handed to her. But too many missed appointments called for a suspension, and Kelse would rather face an hour in detention then the wrath of her mother when the news of a suspension came home. She opened the stiff door and walked in, taking note who else was there and how empty it seemed today, then again it was the first day, so what did she expect? Kelsey herself felt a little dumb being in detention this early in the year. She had “forgotten” to wake up on time for first period this morning and well according to the teachers they were cracking down on attendance early this year.
She saw Reed sitting towards the back of the class and smiled slightly at the sight of him. They’d hooked up once or twice awhile back but otherwise she didn’t really know him. Kelsey sat down in a desk a row and a couple seats up from him, sighing as the desk squeaked under her weight. ‘God this school is so old,’ she thought taking out her sketch book and drawing some of her latest ideas for the fall season.

His eyes flicked to the door as he saw someone walk in. A female someone. A "he knew" someone. It was Kelsey Lewington. Definitely someone he least expected to come to detention. He saw a hint of a smile when their eyes met, so he smiled back to, though Mr. Ancient glared at him. "You two don't talk!" he seemed to cough out through his bottle-cap glasses that were "in" in the fifties.
Kelsey and him didn't go why back. They hooked up a few times at parties over the months. They never really talked, their relationship was just...physical and convenient. He watched her as she walked up to a desk closer to the front. "Hey Kelsey," he nodded towards the back of her head.
Mr. Ancient gave him a glare, "There is no takling-"
"In the detention hall," Reed finished for him, "I know. Isn't time for you to go to sleep?"
Reed would have sworn his face turned three shades of red. "Mr. Turner, I've seen you more times than not, and I highly suggest that you sit down, and be quiet and serve your time!"
Serve time. He made it sound like he was in jail...but when thinking about it...wasn't he?

Kelsey sat there dreading the time she was wasting. ‘I should’ve just skipped it’, she thought, a few days off wouldn’t be so bad. That was typical of her, school had barely begun and already she wanted out. She sat there drowning in her thoughts until she heard her name. She turned her slightly so she was looking at him, and as she did so the ancient looking teacher started into another rant about the no-talking policy.
“Miss Lewington, have I not made myself clear?”
Kelsey mouthed “Hey Reed, what’s up?” quickly before turning around and nodding, an innocent smile on her face.
“I didn’t say anything,” she added a bit of attitude in her voice and a shrug of her shoulders.

Reed threw the teacher a look and withdrew a textbook. Not, that he was going to do his homework. He slowly grabbed his cellphone and sped through his contacts list. He remembered he had gotten Kelsey's number from the last party they went to, she had is as well.
'haven't seen u since the summer,'
He slowly texted and sent it, hoping that Kelsey's cellphone was on vibrate. Seeing that no one else looked like they would be going to detention today he thought he would have to make the most of it.

Kelsey starred at the clock on the wall, watching as the hands of the clock seemed to move slower and slower. Getting lost in the boredom, she suddenly heard her cell phone go off, and reached carefully into her bag, trying to avoid the teacher’s wandering eye. It was set to low beeps, and being deaf in his old age, the teacher didn’t notice. Kelsey pulled the phone out and flipped it open, surprised to see it was from Reed. She had forgotten that he had her number, and was kinda happy that he did.
‘yah, its been awhile, how’re r u’
Kelsey quietly texted him back, glancing up at the teacher every few seconds as she did so. She hadn’t seen Reed in awhile actually and wasn’t quite sure why. They usually found each other at a party, after they were pretty trashed, and did what they did best, but Kelsey couldn’t even remember the last time that happened. She pressed the ‘send’ button and closed the phone, holding it tightly in her hand in an attempt to muffle any noise signaling a new message.

Reed's phone vibrated in his hand and he opened it up. Reading it, He smiled. It had been awhile. Jeez, the last party he went to must have been when he crashed a party in the Valks in August...or was in July? Regardless, they always seemed to stumble into eachother and well...yeah. It happened, almost every time.
'good, u? been awhile indeed. when is the next party?'
The comment might have been too inviting but, what the hell? Reed sent the message before he could second guess himself. He leaned back, waiting for her to get it, all the while peering at the teacher who kept looking at the two like they were talking with their voices.

The phone gave off the familiar sound of low beeps, signaling Reed’s reply. Kelsey opened the phone quickly, looking up innocently as the teacher seemed to glare at her. She smiled weakly and he looked away, going back to whatever he was doing. Kelsey viewed the message and couldn’t help but smile.
‘uh, ive been ok. theres one this weekend. at the beach. u goin?’
Kelsey knew what he meant by his message, and well, she didn’t really care. It’s not like it wasn’t something she didn’t like… or want. She sent the message, and closed the phone, holding it tightly once again. She knew he was probably going and couldn’t help but wonder what might happen. In the mean time, Kelsey picked her pencil back up and began to sketch, hoping the teacher would remain oblivious.

It vibrated once again and read it. The bonfire, of course, how could he forget? He was going to meet up with Alex, but, maybe she lost interest in him. Not like she did at Starbucks. She really hadn't called him back, no texts either. Sometimes, you just needed a break. Obviously Kelsey, was thinking the same think he was.
'yeah. plenty things r going to happen. r u?'
It was an question he knew what she was going to answer. Of course Kelsey was going, didn't she go to all the parties. Hmm, he was about to send it when he stopped and added something:
'i havent seen you much at nonsense. you missed the opening. plus cheap beer, thou you would have gotten it for free.'

Kelsey put down her pencil and flipped open the phone. Of course she was going to the bonfire, it was the first party of the school year and there was no way she was going to miss the shit that was going to go down.
‘yah, im going. of course!’
She re-read the second part of his message a few times before typing in her response. Her fingers moved lightly over the keys, trying to avoid confusing spelling mistakes. Text messaging had never been her favourite.
‘yah, i haven’t been to nonsense in a good while, maybe I’ll stop by? free beer! im mos def comin now. although i think its all part of your plan to get me drunk.’
Kelsey pressed the send button and smiled because they both knew it was true.

Reed chuckled out loud. The teacher glared at him through his glasses. He started to reply:
'would that stop u? drunk is good. we should know that by now.'
He sent the message and looked at the clock. Maybe it was because he had been in here a few times he knew. 3:00. Mr. Ancient coughed and looked at the two, seriousness in his small, beady eyes.
"I have to go to the bathroom, better not be talking," he grunted out and shuffled out of the room. Reed waited to talk to her, she should first read what he wrote. He leaned back and kicked his feet up onto the desk.

Kelsey watched as the teacher got up and left. Reading his reply, she turned her body around so she could talk to him.
“Sadly, I don’t think it would stop me,” a slight smile on her face. “And drunk /is/ good,” she added laughing a little. ‘Especially with you’ she thought to herself but didn’t dare say. “Until the morning after,” she paused, “then not so good.” Kelsey knew all about the morning after, a little too well even. Never one to stop drinking until she was way past gone, Kelse always felt it in the morning, but she never changed.

"Well, we know there will be beer of all sorts at the party. I'll be sure to look for you," he said is accent thick as he toyed with his phone tossing it between his hands. His eyes flicked to the door. Nope still no.
He leaned forward, "Or, you know, maybe we won't see each other...but I'm sure we'll stumble into each other after the party ends."
The voice in his head he usually ignored asked him, 'What about Alex?' Well, what about Alex? They hadn't talked since yesterday.

She laughed. “Yah, you should. Maybe I’ll make an effort to find you too,” her voice soft. Kelsey knew a lot things would go down at the party, fights would happen, people would hook up. She kind of hoped that maybe they would hook up. Reed was always good to her; their meetings were never something she regretted.
She was curious about Reed. Did he have other girls just like Kelsey? He was an attractive guy, no doubt and she knew she couldn’t be the only one. Kelse wasn’t one to be attracted to players, but as she thought about it, was she not one herself? She never stayed with a relationship for long and her list of hook-ups, well; she couldn’t even remember half of them. But a word to describe her wouldn’t be player, it’d be a slut. She hated the double standard.
She quickly looked at the door to see if the teacher was back, he wasn’t. She turned back to Reed and looked at him. “Yah, we usually find each other,” a smile on her face. “So you going with anyone in particular,” she asked not really caring what his answer, it didn’t really make a difference to her. “For curiosity sake of course,” she added.

Reed nodded. Reed did also kind of miss her. It's had been awhile. A long while. But, he couldn't promise her anything at this moment. Many things were goign to happen. He couldn't guarantee that her was going to wake up in his shit-hole with her. It all depended.
Reed smiled, "I'm meeting up with someone. You know I don't do dates," which was true. Why be tied up with someone for one night when so many different things can happen? Maybe if he going out with someone it would be different. But, he wasn't. "Are you? Curiosty as well," he asked. Kelsey seemed like a girl that would be going with someone. "A boyfriend perhaps?"
