Arya Johnson stepped into the well lighted dorm of Valkyrie Academy. She looked at the expensive and high-class room. It reminded her of her abuela’s mansion. It stood on a hill and anything in a mile distance was at one time under the manor’s shadow. When Abuela Flores came to visit, she always told her daughter that she should have married Señor Rodriguez, who was Esmeralda’s high school sweetheart and owned a expensive ranch in Mexico and a grand manor in central Spain. That always annoyed her. And when their whole family went to visit Abuela Flores, she could always smell the stale air because there was too much room for Abuela Flores and Abuelo Flores. Half of the house was for their dogs, which were free to do whatever on Earth they wanted. When she sat down at the Flores Manor, she was always reminded of a drowning in the ocean.
Finally snapping out of her daydream, Arya walked over to the bed nearest to the window. She unhooked the black leather luggage bag from her shoulder, which had a big ‘J’ engraved into it. It was a grand present from Abuelo Flores, along with the one hundred dollars that she could spend while here. Even though her abuelos lived in Spain, they gave her one hundred dollars for her birthday and fifty for each holiday, along with expensive presents. They had more money than they knew what to do with. Her sister and brother got the same treatment, but Papá refused to take the money. At an early age, Arya learned not to press her father. It resulted in a) a smack across the face b) no dinner c) or having to sleep outside in the grass.
Her long eyelashes blinked slowly as she walked over to the window. She gazed out at the blue sky which had a few clouds, but not so Arya was worried about the weather. Her shoulder length brown hair was up in a half-up half-down style. In the morning before she left, she had curled the ends slightly. Her dark tan skin was covered by a blue sweater, which under it was a white tank top, blue jeans, and white running shoes. A golden chain was around her neck, with a golden heart that had a clear diamond in it. Another gift from Abuela Flores and Abuelo Flores, it was once her grande-grande-abuela’s. She never knew Marianna Flores, but she knew she was once a duchess of Spain. Then she had Maria Flores, who ran away from home. Marianna was upset, so she gave up her place as duchess, but she claimed everything she had owned.
Arya’s lips were glossed with strawberry lip-gloss and her brown eyes were accented by heavy black eyeliner. Her slim figure and womanly curves were perfect for dancing. Just by looking at her, you could tell by her straight back and toned body, she was a dancer. And she was. She got into Valkyrie by a dancing scholarship and she was captain of the dance team. Of course it wasn’t just about the dance team, because if you took her to a club and some sort of song was playing, she’d let it loose and show you really how much she loved to dance.
