The lonesome tapping of a pencil hitting notebook paper filled the still air of the Cafeteria. It's beat was soothing and slow, matching the nodding of a head as the one doing the tapping listened to the shinny black iPod Video resting on the table. Of course, a payment from her foster parents for, well, just because they were never there.
Tiny black words flashed across the screen, "Girl Next Door" by Saving Jane, one of her favorite songs. Rylee hummed along, still tapping her pencil to the rhythm. No words filled the glaring blank space on her paper, though it was no school assignment she was putting off. This had been a quiet place to write, but so far, Rylee had nothing to put down. White emptiness seemed to fill her mind. Presently, it became to much and Rylee shut the notebook, instead deciding to sing a little.
Her voice was soft and sweet, the one thing Rylee really thought of about herself as beautiful. She hoped no one was around to hear it. Though she loved to preform for people, Rylee's confidence in herself was minimal when it wasn't a planned thing.

A master of hearing musical notes? Not likely, but when he did walk by the girl, hear her singing, and quietly he pulled out a chair near her. After a few seconds of ignoring the background conversations, scraps as chairs were pulled back, and the clatter of trays he smiled slightly and shook hi head.
"I really don't understand why people who have good singing voices try and keep it hidden," Zachary stated simply after a few minutes. "After all, it doesn't make much sense why some one with talent would attempt to hide it. You know, since that talent was what helped get you here, if I'm right." His guess was that Rylee had sang her way in, just like he did. Of course, it was only a guess.
He combed back a few strands of dark copper hair and turned his head to the side slightly, maybe he didn't understand lack of confidence. Since, he seemed to be blossoming with it, and didn't really care if some one listened to him sing. That was just who he was, a singing man, or maybe a singing fool. But, either way, he had no problems with lack of confidence in his voice.

Nikki walked into the cafteria. She got her luch. Some good food for once. A great thing!
Nikki walked into the cafeteria at the perfect time to hear ZAchary say that he hated people who hid their voices. She was embarressed as she sat down a table right in front of him. She was one of those people and she didn't like to show it. Zac seemed to have lots of confidence.

Rylee jumped at the sound of someone sitting next to her. Literally, her knees softly banged the table. Silently reminding herself to make sure she was alone before she started singing again, Rylee tried to manage a smile. Pulling her headphones out and pushed the 'pause' button on the iPod. She'd caught most of his words, but they weren't all that true.
"Actually, I'm here on writing really." she didn't say anything about Sara and John wanting her to stay in one place to make friends, and nothing about how she didn't even put down that she sang on her application. Rylee just didn't have what Zachary did, she was self-conscious. Of course, she was trying to work on it, honestly.
"As for hiding talent, most people do it because they are afraid of it. Talent is a bittersweet thing. If you are proud of it and really use it, people assume you're trying to brag. If you don't use it, but someone hears or sees it and thinks it's good, then you're being shy." that was one of the longest conversations Ry had ever said to someone she just met.

"I totally knew you were in here for writing," he said, obviously being a total liar, but not in a cruel factious way. He shook his head as he took a drink from a bottle of apple juice he had bought a few minutes earlier.
He snapped his fingers a few times trying to think of something to reply to that, the he knew what the core thing point he wanted to make, but not the right words to put the sentence in so it would make sense. After a few snaps he looked up at her. "Not always true, they often times can be rather jealous, and yeah, then they don't get along with you very well because they can't help but think of how you beat them in something," he stated. It had happened alot to him, luckily, him and his friend back in his old school were able to patch things up before they got completely out of hand.
Granted, he never had a problem with shyness, so maybe he didn't understand completely what Rylee meant. Because, obviously, he didn't have a problem with singing out, heck if some one dared him to, he would probably sing out in the middle of the lunch room... Maybe.

Bridget walked into the Cafeteria. She didn't come here to get food, but to meet a friend. She looked around, but didn't see her. Bridget looked over at a table where she saw a girl who looked new. Well, either that or Bridget hadn't seen her before. She also saw Zachary sitting here, she didn't know him really well, though. She decided to go say hi.
"Hello," she said walking them, "I am Bridget Ainsworth. I couldn't help noticing you were new here. I thought I should come introduce myself. I also heard you singing a little. I think you are good."
She turned around to Zachary," Hey," she said to him.

"Yo," Zachary stated at the new comer. Turning his head, his eyes swept over Bridget quickly, determining whether or not he had met her before. After a few seconds he nodded his head, determining that he had seen her around, but hadn't talked to her much.
He took another drink of his apple juice, then twisted the lid back onto the bottle. He tapped his left foot on the ground on a rhythmic beat, more thought stirring up in his head as his mind began to wonder if he had locked his door or not. Clearly, he had a faulty memory.

Ashley sat down in one of the booths. She put her Aquafina down on the table and looked at Zachary with great interest. She stood up and walked over to him leaving her water on the table.
"Hey, I'm Ashley" she said with a smile. "Sorry if I am interupting or anything its just that I dont know anyone here so I wanted to meet some people" she said without a hint of shyness. She looked at him and nodded her head, if only... she thought to herself.
"Um.. just out of curiosity whats you name?" She asked with a little giggle.

Rylee jolted to life once again as more people began to enter the cafeteria. Obviously she’d picked the wrong spot. Oh well, better luck next time to figure out where she could be alone. Maybe in that huge house her foster parents bought? Looking up at Bridget, Rylee smiled softly. “I’m Rylee Mariss; yeah I’m pretty new to around here. Thank you.” Rylee said, addressing the compliment Bridget had paid her singing. Secretly, a small part of the old Rylee was thinking, ‘I still got it.’
Looking up at the girl who had come over to talk to Zachary, Rylee studied her. She was a flirt, but Rylee didn’t care, she didn’t even know the guys name sitting next to her. A part of Ry envied this Ashley for her boldness, but a bigger part didn’t. Being bold could get you places that being shy couldn’t. However, some of those places were hellholes that turned your confidence inside out.

"Zachary, or Zac, which ever you may prefer to call me," Zachary said with a smile, then quickly added something else. "Forgive me in advance, I have a bad memory, and I have a tendency of forgetting names," he scratched the back of his head for a few seconds, then set his hand down on the table. One of his faults, he remembered once, last year, when he couldn't remember a teacher's name, and ran down the hallways yelling, 'You! Yes! You! come here! no!... Come back! I need to ask you about tonights homework!' Of course, he eventually got the assignment, and had learned all the teachers names ever since then.
"Nah, we were just getting into introductions of names also, so you didn't really interupt anything," Zachary said. Once more he unscrewed the lid on the apple juice and took a sip. Then set the lid on top of the bottle.

Ashley smiled, "I like the name Zac, thats what my dad wanted to name my brother, but my Aunt suggested Joesph, I still regret calling my aunt to come because his name should have been Zachary but instead my mom chose Joseph" Ashley said, the thought brought back many memories of her dad.
She looked looked down at her old ratty shirt. It had been her dads at one time, he used to wear it whenever he would play drums with her but after his death she had gotten it and she prized it like it was worth all the money in the world.
AShley looked up noticing two other girls. She smiled "Hi, I'm Ashley if you didnt already here me" Ashley said with a giggle. She looked at Rylee, "You remind me of my old bestfriend, from when I used to live in Texas. If you don't mind me asking, whats you name?" Ashley asked while studying Rylee no doubt was she a very pretty girl.
