full name: edmund charles rose
(he goes almost entirely by charlie; hates the name edmund)
gender: male
age: nineteen
university year: freshmen
major: european history
minor: none
job: unemployed
portrayed by: jim sturgess
appearance:charlie's one of those guys who almost always looks like he's just rolled out of bed. he definitely has the time and resources to look sharp, but he hardly ever bothers to put much effort into his appearance. why? laziness, mostly. he could comb his hair more often, but it'll just get messy again. plus the whole messy-casual thing is his effective trademark. it's for this reason that his hair is often long and unruly, seeing as he doesn't feel the need to drop by the barber's very often. he also doesn't like taming his hair, as he feels it looks good in slight but ruthless brown waves. it usually ranges in length from the mid level of his ear to almost to his chin. though the same is true for most males, charlie's never been one do do anything with his hair. he hasn't come within three feet of styling gel since his spiky hair phase in the sixth grade. he'll just cast a quick glance in the mirror to make sure it isn't a total haystack and then he'll continue on his merry way.
given his cavalier attitude about his general appearance in terms of neatness, you'd probably assume that charlie doesn't think much about his physique, either. and you'd be right. like his sister, he's never put much thought into it, in terms of keeping his figure slim. he eats what he wants when he wants, though he does tend to pig out at social events. he's very average when it comes to height, standing about five feet and ten inches tall. never having been fond of physical activity - too much work, see. the only physical stuff he can stay interested in is sports and he's not the hugest fan of those, either - , charlie is definitely not one of those big, buff musclemen. he's not a complete beanpole, either, he has some muscle but it's not very defined. he's most definitely not overweight, either. just... average, with a nice metabolism to burn off any excess of anything. his weight fluctuates, like all others', and usually stays within the one thirty five through one forty nine pound range.
charlie has a face that seems to fit his personality. its rounded, almost never severe. it has a happy go lucky sense about it. he definitely got his face from his mother's side of the family. he has eyes of an average size and are also very average in terms of shape; there aren't many descriptive words when trying to describe his eyes. they're brown and just normal. sort of the generic image you get when you think 'eyes', though charlie's shade of brown deeper and more chocolate-y when you take the time to look at them. his nose is on the thicker side and has a rounder tip. he laughs with two sort of inequally sized lips and nearly all the time, charlie has a light stubble on his chin and up his jaw, seeing as he's usually too lazy to shave every day.

character personality ,
personality:charlie has always been one of the class clown types. he's always the carefree one, sitting in the back of the classroom with his feet up on his desk, his hands behind his head, gazing out the window and plotting another mood lightener. he loves to laugh and he loves to make others laugh because, in his opinion, lauhing is one of the best things you can do for yourself. what's the point in life if you can't have a little fun, eh? sad people bother him. he doesn't like it. so he often feels responsible to be the consoler, the one who cheers the others up. he's got a big huge repitoire of jokes that he'll keep on streaming and he's also good at making light of situations and turning them into jokes. his heart is probably in the right place, even if he does bug someone by acting like something is little more than a joke. he likes the feeling of knowing he's responsible for laughter. in summary, charlie rose is your classic goofball.
you probably wouldn't expect this out of someone like charlie. he loves money. growing up in a small lack of it told him that it was to be valued and that you get get to extraordinary places with money. generally speaking, charlie's a pretty easy going guy, but he's very, very touchy about his finances. he spends each dollar carefully; counts out change exactly, and is not the world's most generous tipper. that's not all, though. he also loves earning money and he'll resort to some less the scrupulous methods to do so. it all started with producing ineptly crafted fradulent tickets for the circus his father was a part of. it fascinated him; all of it, the two main things being how he was making his own money and that he was capable of tricking people like that. and since then he's moved up to forging some more serious stuff. he doesn't need to. recently he's had more than enough money at his disposal, but charlie likes to earn his own money. not because it makes him feel like a man or anything like that, but because he likes knowing that he's earned it and that it's all his. and when it comes to making money, charlie tends to forget about others. he's willing to take advantage of people for it. not the people he cares about, but they're people all the same.
it comes in handy for charlie quite frequently that he's smooth talker. he's talked his way out of dozens, maybe even hundreds, of stick situations in the past and he knows just how to do it a few dozen more times. even though he may look a tad empty headed sometimes, there are usually quite a few cogs turning rapidly inside charlie rose's head. he's a good and willing liar and is very skilled at patching up rough or hissy conversations if he feels the need. or want, really. he's capable of being a very charismatic and charming fellow when he wants to be. though he's not much of a flirt, he sometimes comes off as one without really even meaning to. in truth, however, he doesn't do much flirting. he likes to get at least an acquaintanceship established with girls before that happens. he's usually very polite and corteous to women. except to cat, that is.
another thing that you might not expect out of this innocent looking little chap. he's quite crafty, usually in the bad sense of the term. he's good at coming up with plans to gets what he wants and he'll go to great lengths to execute them. surprisingly enough, he's very persistent when it comes to the things he want. he usually won't pester people about them; not usually anyway, and most of the time not people he likes or cares about. the things he sets his eyes on usually involve large sums and the like.
charlie looks like he could possibly be a grunge rocker or something like that, right? he's not, but he is a bit of a musical person. before he moved to pennsylvania, he hadn't ever really considered music. it was nice and all, but he hadn't ever thought about learning to play a musical instrument. however, once he moved in with his relatives in philadelphia, he picked up the cello and since has noticed himself becoming more and more musical. though he doesn't really like to let on, he really likes playing the cello a lot and a considerable amount of space on his ipod is now cluttered up with classical music. he even knows the names of some composers and what they're famous for. now he's got a musical facet of his personality.

character history ,
originated from: detroit, michigan and philadelphia, pennsylvania[/size]
parents: philip rose & wendy reynolds
siblings: catherine rose, 16, half sister
other: none atm
living situation: valks
history:charlie rose wasn't supposed to happen. his father, philip rose, who had joined a traveling circus at a young age, had gotten his girlfriend and fellow performer, wendy reynolds, pregnant. wendy had originally opted for abortion, but philip convinced her otherwise. edmund charles rose entered the world about eight months later, on january 5th 1989, screaming and purple, and he was quickly nicknamed charlie by his sympathetic father. philip had not been included in the selection of his son's first name, but he had chosen the middle name charles after his favorite musician, ray charles. phil and wendy both took time off to take care of their new baby, but after a few months they picked things back up and charlie spent a lot of time at the houses of babysitters. as he grew up, the number of babysitters willing quickly diminished as he became more and more mischevious. and when phil and wendy broke up and phil became smitten with geneva johansson, it grew harder to make sure charlie had a stable environment around him. and then came another positive pregnancy test, followed nine months later by a baby girl, catherine selena rose.
charlie didn't mind having a sibling. he actually liked it. it was interesting. he hadn't received much attention from his parents before, so when the amount dropped again, he didn't mind. it was actually sort of nice. it gave him more freedom. he and cat weren't super tight growing up, but probably a bit more than average because they both felt like the toher was one of the only people they could really lean on. they were both homeschooled for pretty much their entire childhood with other kids in their same position, which cat hated but charlie was indifferent to. charlie was never super popular, but he had a small circle of friends he liked to hang out with a lot. that was back before he really had a recreational activity he liked to put a lot of time and effort into. he still has friends, of course, but now he also likes his alone time, as well.
charlie didn't really mind growing up how he did. it was always interesting, to say the least. the clowns scared him a bit, but he was working on getting over that. but the summers got really annoying. a lot of the time there was nothing to do but work or help out, something he didn't really like to do. but then little cat came up with an idea that would captivate him for years. or well, the basics of it would, at least. she suggested they start creating fake tickets to the circus and sell them to some of the kids in the neighborhoods they passed through. she simply wanted something to do and some extra pocket money. charlie agreed immediately and they teamed up together. charlie handled the actual production of the false tickets (as cat was quite artistically incapable) and they both worked together in convincing other children to buy them. paired up they were quite persuasive. when that summer ended, cat grew tired of their little project and let it go, but the same definitely wasn't true of charlie. he took it up on his own, continuing it for several more months. at the time, charlie was quite proud of himself, though now it seems laughable feeble.
it was soon after that game grew old and charlie had started to want something bigger - when he was fourteen - that the two children's father decided that they needed a more stable upbringing. they were traveling much too often, not getting a chance to interact with some more... conventional children. he decided all this inconsistency was no good and that he should do something about it, perhaps something he should have done right away. when he had run from home, he had left behind a prestigious, proud family in philadelphia, pennsylvania. they made it clear that they were quite put off with him, but they still agreed to having charlie and cat come and live with them for a while. charlie didn't really have many strong feelings about the move. he didn't mind... circus life, but he also thought that philadelphia would definitely be interesting.
this guess was proved correct upon his arrival. his relatives were all a little uptight and without a decent sense of humor, but they were fairly bearable. they were also all very artistic and classy. though they were obviously trying to be subtle about it, they were plainly quite interested to see if the two kids had any artistic potential. after a while they gave up on cat, whose talent lay entirely in academics, but charlie was a different story. almost immediately, he picked up the cello. he originally tried it out because he thought it looked the funniest; so big and squat and capable of emitting only deep notes, reminiscent of a big, pompous old man. but he soon found out that he was pretty good at it. and, not only that, but he actually enjoyed it. he was now spending most of his time on school related crap and his cello, which he found quite distressing. how lame was this? the roses were sitting on a nice pile of money, but they didn't really use it. and, for some reason unknown to even himself, it mad charlie anxious. he wanted his own money. the solution came to him instantaneously. remembering his old ticket exploits, charlie looked around a bit. it didn't take long at all for him to find out what he needed to know.
he obtained some cheap equipment that was suitable for creating fake ids and began experimenting with it. after he decided his official model was good enough, he began casually, stealthily selling them. a couple months later, he met two young men who called themselves spike and tommy. they took pity on him and introduced him to some more sophisticated methods and types of forgery. charlie found out there was a lot he hadn’t known. soon he was spending a lot of time with spike and tommy, creating illicit documentations. he got the impression that most of his relatives knew he was up to something not good but that they didn’t see the point in bringing it up. after all, he was a cute, harmless looking kid. how much trouble could he really be getting into?
as time passed, charlie grew more experienced and smooth with his little side venture. he began using a fake id to get into clubs and to purchase alcohol. after a while, spike and tommy decided to introduce their little friend to someting new. gambling. charlie had never really given it much thought before, but now it seemed quite enticing. he started betting small amounts on sport games. slowly it progressed until it could be classified as quite 'hard core.' he usually put odd, seemingly trivial loopholes in the betting agreements with some of the denser opponents and even with some of the brightest ones. these were of course just in case he lost. and most of the time they worked and he was able to avoid having to pay anyone a great deal of money. it was during this time period that charlie and his sister started to grow apart a little. charlie no longer really needed her, even if she still needed to rely on him. he was caught up in his new hobby and she was caught up in all the stresses of school. he noticed that she was growing angrier and angrier and he made a mental memo to himself to talk to her about it, but he put it off for too long. cat soon punched a teacher in the face and got expelled. charlie felt bad about it.
on the last day of his senior year, charlie was worked up and excited for the summer break. maybe it was this excitement that prodded him to make the impulse decision of placing a very large, very dodgy bet on a basketball game. he lost and he couldn't get out of it. he would have to pay up, and since his opponent was not a very patient man, he would have to pay up fast. charlie put it off for about a week, gathering funds. he used up most of the spare cash he had from his fraud work and gambling. however, he also stole quite a sum from his uncle. he was pretty sure his uncle wouldn't notice; it was from a bank account he used very, very sporadically. nonetheless, when a letter from phil rose arrived, saying that he had settled in the nicest little city in california and inviting his two children out to come and live with him, charlie was nearly giddy with relief. cat, of course, was quite desperate to get away from philadelphia now, and charlie had recently acquired a reason to want to be very far away from a certain uncle for a while. so they both packed up and joined their father, who had recently married a woman with money pouring out of her ears, in valkyrie california. that was last summer. he's found it to his liking, but he has to wonder how much more the city can dish out. you'll be happy to show him, right, valkyrie?
