Nowhere to run and nowhere to hide
DEREK & MARGARET,
You're scared of the truth, I'm tired of the lies

"Alright, now... I know we have come a far way from home..." Began the accented voice of a big eared eighteen year old as he walked down the pathway, "and I know you've put much emphasis on this trip and our lives and have this notion that fate will guide our way and all..." He continued as his eyes looked around at their foreign surroundings, narrowed slightly for the sake of blocking sun-rays. "But... I think we're lost." Derek Stanwood looked down at the map in his hands of the streets of Valkyrie, California. Him and his sister Margaret, or Meg as she preferred to be called, were meant to be walking towards the Renaissance Fair just outside of the town, of course the fair was inland and to the south while they, according to the map, which Meg seemed to ignore it's existence, they were headed north and well... He turned his head to left as the great deep blue Pacific Ocean starred back at him. Yeah, they were definitely lost.
Lost or not, found or not, Margaret Stanwood was not one to fret. She never had been the worrisome half of the set. Why a set? Oh yes well, Margaret and Derek were not only brother and sister, they were twins. Fraternal obviously due to the genitalia each of the two sported separately. They were actually born in the U.S. of A. but were immediately put up for adoption after birth. The two were adopted fairly quiackly by a British couple who took them over seas. Neither of the Twins had remembered the U.S. at all. For them, their American memories began when they stepped off the plane in New York City, which was where their transfer was. The thing was, for twins, Meg and Derek couldn't have been raised more differently. You would think with them being adopted by the same couple but that kind couple died when they were about four years old and while Meg got re-adopted fairly quickly, Derek hadn't. He grew up in shithole orphanage with a psycho abuser for their guardian. Meg was given a rich and luxurious upbringing of being ignored before she discovered her adoptive parents were also psycho, having adopted her for the sole purpose of being their son's wife if he couldn't find on his own, which believe me, wasn't likely. The kid was an ass. Anyways, both of the twins were eventually taken from their less than adequate homes and ended up in a group home for troubled kids in a small town in England called Sevenoaks Weald. They reconnected their, bonded through something no one could place until a volunteer got curious and dug deep into the paper work and discovered the two were twins. Derek and Meg were about 12? 13?
Basically they've been thick as thieves ever since. The easiest way to hurt one of them was to hurt the other. They were more dependent on each other than anything. And lets be honest here, Derek, was by far more socially awkward, I mean one glance at him could tell you that. He wore his peasant rein fair clothes around as his majority wardrobe, he was tall and lanky, slightly awkward with large ears that stuck out and a long face. That's not to say he's completely unfortunate looking. He was strong and fit with a gorgeous boyish smile and bright blue eyes(his sister's are pale blue). He was also shyer and not the type to be open to knew people. He never fit in with kids in England. Meg on the other hand was fairly popular where ever she went. She was beautiful and fun and stylish and still semi-nerdy since she was still into the Rein Fair thing. Derek leaned on her a lot, and to tell the truth, him leaning on her, and Meg having to always act like the lioness protecting her cub while protecting Derek, is really was she depends on. They're each others krutches which is probably not the best thing in the world but it wasn't going to change any time soon. Back to the two's differences, while Derek hates the new and unfamiliar and wished for nothing more than to continue working at the Rein Fair back in Sevenoaks, just him and his sister and the few friends he had made forever? He would. But nooo not Meg. She was the one who had the idea to come to Valkyrie and it was all because of their birth father. He lived in this town. Meg felt this compelling need to know the truth about what had happened when they were born and why he didn't want them. Derek was happy accepting he hadn't wanted them and moving on. Derek didn't want there to be some scandal in his life. He just wanted people to leave them alone but Meg, Meg invited them in.
Meg's crystal blue eyes looked over at her brother's and gave him and knowing smirk as she glanced at the map and then back to him. Derek watched her with a raised eyebrow for a moment before he groaned outloud, "Uuughhh, you knew? You knew we weren't going the right way." He stated turning away in frustration for half a second before he looked back at her, arms crossed over his chest. Meg laughed and nodded, "Of course I knew, but what can I say? I got one sip of that ocean air and just needed to see it." She replied with a grin. She hopped of the sidewalk and climbed up onto one of the large rocks that framed the path, facing the ocean and put her arms out wide, "Come on Der, look at this view! We're in California! The land of dreams!" Derek walked over to the large rock on which she stood and climbed up to stand next to her. He nodded, "What if my dreams are of England?" He asked plainly. Boy was stubborn. Meg looked at him with a single raised brow before she rolled her eyes and hopped off the rock with a sigh, "Well, I'm sure they have a Hollywood set of London somewhere around." She said, some sarcasm finding its way through the accent. She tucked a strand of dark wavy hair behind her ear as she looked over as her little brother, hella yeah, she's a few minutes older, as he dropped down to the ground. He wasn't happy, but he hardly ever was. But when he laughed or smile it could light up a room or cheer up Scrooge all on it's own so in Meg's opinion it evened out.
Derek rejoined his sister on the sidewalk and put his hands in his pockets, "Okay, so... you took us off course." He said, leading her on to speak. Meg simply nodded and looked around her beautiful surroundings. She had seen an Ocean before, the Atlantic. England was after all a small island. But it was, for the most part, grey skies and chilled winds over there. Here the late afternoon breeze was warm and the sun was bright and the sky clear. She had never seen an ocean look so blue. But apparently her observing silence was not good enough for Derek who then nodded and continued, " Soo... where are we? How do we get to the Fair?" Meg shook herself out of her stare and looked up at her twin, "What? Oh... I don't know." the girl shrugged and began walking again as Derek's cheeks went pale from annoyance, "You don't know? You're the one who took us off course" Meg shook her head nonchalantly, "Yeah, took us off course, doesn't mean I paid attention to the new course." She replied with a small smile, kicking a pepple with her sling backs. "Oh come now, we'll arrive eventually." she added making her stride a tad faster, pulling ahead of the lanky boy who kicked the pepple she had discarded behind her as sarcasm came from a muttered breath, "Yes, we'll get there, just have to circumnavigate the world first."
