VALKYRIE,
CALIFORNIA
the ocean breathes salty, won't you carry it in?
It’s too late to make it right,
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do
what it is you think I should

When he is in need of clothes he basically finds jeans and basic t's just because he wants to leave asap although to be fair, most all his clothes are hand me downs from his brothers and cousins. Doesnt' matter if he hates them, clothes are clothes.

OVERALL PERSONALITY:
You have got to understand something about the Sirens in general. Yes, they all have different backgrounds depending on which of the three families they belong to and who their parents were, whether they lived in Detroit or Chicago or New York City, etc. but the ones who were born Sirens, Hughes like Orion or Liz and Davis's like Don and Izzy, instead of those who just join like Doug Johnson had, they're upbringings all involve one key similar factor. Training. Each one of the Siren kids were expected to be part of the "family" business one day so why not get them started young right? And believe me, the higher the family ranking the tougher the training. Orion was a Hughes, the Hughes were in charge. He was simply lucky not to be the first born son, seeing as the first born turned into a psychopath. Anyways, Orion was no different because he was trained to. He was trained in combat for the streets, not for war, for the streets, although if you've ever grown up on South Side Chicago or lived in Brooklyn as a Siren in Blood territory, you know, that life on the streets can be a lot like war.
Part of the training wasn't even ordained. It came from just being around these types of people all your life. Through years of abuse until he finally broke and became stronger and he knew how to get by under the radar. He became practically mindless when working. He did as he was told, he didn't think about it. He was strong, he was private, he didn't talk much. He was Determined to just do what he had to and get by. He didn't need anything else. Just to be left alone. He became sort of that perfect soldier. The one who was focused, determined, and never gave any lip? Rion is the type to hate any distractions because somewhere, in his mind, distraction leads to death or pain. Orion is not a bad guy, yes he has killed and killed those that weren't such horrible people to have deserved death but the way his brain has been wired, he killed those people in self defense because he felt that if he didn't, he would have killed or hurt. It's the way his brain works after all the abuse basically. Remain focus, do as your told and you don't get hurt.
After all the abuse and all of the indifferent learn to do what you're told dronage, it's pretty clear to see why Orion would not exactly be the most happy go lucky guy on the face of the earth. In fact he is rather cynical. When he does get to speak and chat with someone, out of the war setting, you'll find him to not be a very open to happiness kind of guy. He knows far too much of the dark side of the world to ever be taken in by the light. He's cold shouldered because of it too. Friends can be distractions, morals would get in the way of him doing what he has to to survive. He is self-sufficient like that. He's been on his own and he believes he needs to stay on his own for survival. He is not one to like to take help from anyone on the job he's assigned, of course a lot of this he will have to conquer when he has to team up with his sister.
Yeah that's right, this independent drone-like warrior is going to have to team up with his younger sister in order to protect them both. The thing is, as mindless as he can act, Orion is still a human being and he has thoughts. And the truth of it is, he's a good guy. No he really is. He is mixed up and hurt and he's been beaten down but he has such a good heart. And all of the people he's killed, every single one, he feels this wrenching guilt for. It's part of what else makes him so cynical and cold shouldered. He feels so guilty for all the lives he's taken. He might not admit it but when you see him, at a bar, alone, drinking, he's thinking about his victims and how much he is repulsed by himself and his actions. And when he is close to someone, a very rare thing indeed since the one tick every siren seems to have is that they can't get close to anyone, but when he does, like he did with Izzy Davis, he is overly protective. Perhaps he is trying to compensate or make up for his guilt a bit. Who knows?
Needless to say, Orion is not one to go around meeting new people and telling them about his life. He is private and he liked to keep it that way for safety reasons. He is a very introverted guy. He doesn't trust anyone, not even himself at moments. He is the classic Siren in the trust department and completely cut off. It all comes back to being self reliant. You take care of yourself and you don't get hurt. He just keeps brow beating these philosophies into his head and his lifestyle is killing him. What he needs to do is learn how to laugh and have some fun. He needs to learn that he isn't a brainless brute as everyone makes him out to be, as he's been trained to think.

HISTORY:
The Life of a Siren. It always begins in 1907 but after so many, I think we know the basics of the story by now. Three family, start gang, street gang mixed with mafia environment, dangerous, seductive, ruthless etc. We get the point right? But you see, this is why I always try to start each sirens' story with the story of their mother, because the mothers are the most frequently changing aspect of the story. Darren Sr. is the grandfather of Widow, and the father of Liz, Kenny, the psycho Darren Jr as well as nine other children. Out of those twelve kids, two, only two come from the same mother. And Tommy and Mark, while lovable, Aren't quite main characters in our story. But because the mothers seem to be playing musical chairs, they can be hard to keep track of. But no mother was harder to keep track of than Orion's. She was one of those girls who was from the worst homes, drugs, abuse, poverty, basically all goes into her childhood. Her mom was addicted to cocaine, her dad left when she was three, her mom had lots of kids of lots of fathers and lots of boyfriends running around being left alone with her daughter when they shouldn't've been... you get the picture. Cindy Marshell grew up screwed up. She ended up getting very into sixties despite it being the late 70s early 80s. It was about freedom... and drugs. She wasn't to be tied down by anything and she was going to experience everything. So she took off.
Where she went was another story all together. At least when it came to the continental U.S. it was more of a question of where didn't she go? from sea to shining sea, from monuments like the Statue of Liberty to the largest yarn ball... she saw it all, mostly through shroom clouded eyes or passed out in the back of whoever she hitched a ride from's back seat. But one way or another, she made her way to Chicago, where she met a guy called Darren Hughes Sr. He was a hunk, so masculine and while she was an activist and definitely pro-feminism, she was still gorgeous and worth Darren's time in his mind. He and Cindy Marshell spent one hot night together. Only One, and only once did anything happen. She left the next morning when some random drove by and asked if anyone wanted to go to San Francisco. She said what the heck and left. It was the last time Darren saw or thought about her again until she showed up a year later with a three month old boy whom she named Orion.
She was in tears when she returned and found Darren, ashamed by herself, and saying she can hardly take care of herself, let alone an infant. So she put him in his father's arms and left. To where? No one really knows. But hey, Darren had another son. This is a good thing in the gang world. Thats another thing, Cindy had no clue she was leaving the boy with the Sirens, if she had she wouldn't have. Orion Mitchell Hughes than joined the Siren "family". He was the 5th boy and 6th kid Darren Sr. had. I think it's fairly clear to anyone who's followed any of the Sirens up to this point that living and growing up as mafia-level of organized STREET gang was not exactly pleasant, although if you ask a few of them, the rush is to die for... literally. Anyways, Orion did have a sibling almost exactly his age, was born two months after him, another boy named Kenny. Orion was your average infant other than his situation. He cried, pooped, peed, ate, woke up in the middle of the night, sucked his thumb, etc. Infants are taken fairly good care of in the Sirens apart from their risky exposure to violence. Life really didn't start to take it's tole on Orion until the boy was a child.
Orion seemed to grow with his mother's heart. His first word was a slurred variation of the word 'bunny'. As a kid, he found bunnies adorable, what can I say? He was also slightly skinny. Not much natural muscle build up. And he was short(at least until puberty). His father and his older brothers were all build like trucks on the other hand. Average height but muscly and strong. Plus Orion was soft spoken, it made him look weak to his older siblings so naturally, he became the one they picked on, beat on, and turned into the scapegoat. It didn't matter if one of his older brothers, Darren Jr. or Marcus fucked up it was always Orion who got the belt whipped accross his back. His older brothers for the most part thought it was hysterical. His father would not have been nearly so abusive to Orion had his brothers, especially Darren and Marcus, not helped it along. They would set him up to screw up, they would trap him, trick him, lie, lock him in small places, "lose" him in enemy territory and then claim the boy ran away from them Anything to give them a giggle as their dad punished him behind his office door. As a result, Orion grew up with a natural distrust of his siblings as he grew older. He also gained those large scars of the belt against his back. They're not his only scars but they're the only one's he's uncomfortable telling where he got them.
By the time he was 9, he was quiet, anti-social, sarcastic and had scars all up and down his back from belt whips. He completely alienated himself from his siblings and just obeyed his father whenever he had an order as quickly and efficiently as possible. The boy became a soldier before the age of ten. That didn't mean his older brothers didn't still mess with him. The worst of them being Marcus. I know I know, it's a shocker, for this Siren, it wasn't darren jr. causing hell, that's rare. But after being set up by Marcus one too many times, he actually kicked the 16 year old's ass while he was a simple 10 year old. Pretty soon after that, his siblings stopped ganging up on him for awhile. He hadn't gotten in trouble in a bit. Whenever he had the chance he would go with his uncle or cousins. He tagged along with the Davis family a lot, although he was closer to the adults than the kids. He was already looked down on in the family, hanging out with the oddball Donny, who was only a few weeks older than him, would have been suicide in the Hughes family.
And so the years passed, he was 13 when his father thought him ready to start working. And work he did. He went along on all the major deals, learning more and more each day. But things with Marcus were still pretty bad. Orion was better than him at the job, it threatened him. Resentment and hate grew in Marcus for his younger brother so when he saw his opening he took it. When Orion was 15 and alone in the street, Marcus and about six or seven of his pals cornered Orion. Seems a bit harsh right? six or seven 20-22 year olds beating the shit out of a 15 year old? Orion was injured pretty badly. A few broken ribs and a broken arm and a large gash on his collar bone that left a bad scar. And when he was asked what happened, he lied and said it was a group of Bloods. Deeming Orion incompetent his father sent him back to Detroit. He was under close watch of Darren Jr. And their dad and more. He hated it, but he worked hard. When he was 16, he had his first kill. He wishes he could say it was in self defense but that would be lie. What he can tell you was the man he shot was not a good man, a rapist and thief. He was in the Irish Mafia, a group the Sirens were very against, but the man had been tied with his hands behind his back and kneeling in front of Orion's dad, head of the Sirens, when he handed the 16 year old boy the gun and simply gestured to the man who begged to be spared, spilling information out everywhere. But when his father nodded, like a good soldier, Orion pulled the trigger and shot the man straight through the head. His dad's trust in Orion's competence was reinstated and Orion became all about business.
Rion was a perfect Siren for his father to use. The sirens saw him as sort of stupid but good at following orders. While doing a job in chicago when he was 17 he got to see the Davis's again. Donny was useful but Rion still saw him as strange, but Izzy was something else to him entirely. He liked her, a lot. He was also the first guy she dated that she took seriously. But both being terrified of that closeness, it did end after two months. It ended and he left again. She will always be a soft spot for him. He has since gotten over it, but still she was the first girl he had truly fell for. He had been with other woman sexually before hand but Izzy was his first and only relationship. To him, woman really meant one thing, distraction. Which we all know he doesn't approve of, like a good soldier. The one thing was, Rion hated his job and life, he felt guilty for the crime he had committed so he asked his father/boss politely if he could leave the Sirens. He was really only brute force to them, so why not? His father refused and was pissed. He told Rion he should be proud, he should be strong, why was he so pathetic? etc... Rion told him that he would never be proud of this place and he would always be pathetic when stuck under his father's thumb. He made it clear he wanted out, but he still followed orders so who cared in the end?
But than the incredible happened. His ever so slightly younger brother Kenny was killed in a brawl and a month or two later his oldest brother, the man who was going to become the Head Siren when their father died, was killed and not just by anyone either but by Orion's little sister, Liz. Rion's never really been close to Liz, Kenny or Darren. Darren he didn't like, Marcus he hated, Liz and Kenny he was very nonchalant about. Siblings aren't trustworthy for him. But then he got some sketchy orders and he's not sure about them. He's thinking and he's worried he won't be able to do the job his father and boss assigned him. He's supposed to go to a place called Valkyrie in California and kill his own sister as "justice" for killing the first born son. In exchange for the more difficult task of murdering his own sister, he would be allowed to leave the Sirens. Is it worth it though?
