VALKYRIE,
CALIFORNIA
the ocean breathes salty, won't you carry it in?
momma never told me how to love, daddy never showed
me how to heal, momma never set a good example, daddy
never held mommas hand, momma found everything hard
to handle, daddy never stood up like a man
WHEN THE OCEAN MET THE SKY ,
CHARACTER BASICS ,
you missed when time and life shook hands and said goodbye
FULL NAME: celia milana giovanni
NICKNAMES: she doesn't do nicknames
GENDER: female
AGE: sixteen
GRADE: junior
ART INTEREST: academics
PLAYBY: emma watson
YOUR BODY MAY BE GONE ,
CHARACTER APPEARANCE ,
i'm gonna carry you in my head, in my heart, in my soul
ETHNICITY: italian / british .
HAIR COLOR: dark brown
EYE COLOR: brown
HEIGHT: 5'6
WEIGHT: 122 lbs
BODY TYPE: to most, celia's height is pretty average, and although she may not be a model's height and weight, she's still pretty slim for a girl her height, or any girl.
DISTINGUISHED FEATURES: she's not one for tattoos or body piercing, so only her ears are pierced, which obviously isn't much different from most of the girls, if not all, in valkyrie.
PERSONAL STYLE:in the past, celiaa was the kind of girl that didn't cared much for fashion. sure, she would go shopping sometimes and see what would look good with what, but she never really went through fashion magazines, seeing what's 'in'. to be honest, she really just preferred casual and comfortable clothing, but considering how she's a giovanni, she has to make herself presentable at all times. after all, you always need to make a good impression, and everyone knows that how you dress has to do with first impressions. these days, she's more into fashion, and though it may not be her main interest, she tends to stay with classics or spice things up with usual dressed. either way, she usually still keeps her poise and grace.
IN YOUR MOUTH, IN YOUR SOUL ,
CHARACTER PERSONALITY ,
the more we move ahead the more we're stuck in rewind
STRENGTHS: remains loyal to those who have gain her loyalty (much like her trust), keeps secrets (since she has a big one, herself), can actually be fun when she doesn't feel like she needs to hide it, caring, helpful.
WEAKNESSES: sometimes confused by what she should and shouldn't say, family over friends (so she may have backed out of something suddenly), her trust and loyalty aren't easily earned, the whole idea of adventure, unnecessarily secretive at times.
LIKES: being correct, music, accomplishing goals, beautiful sights (think sunsets), nature, food, winning, friends, family, having someone who cares for her/to care for, art, taking pictures (of other things, not herself), and people who mean their words.
DISLIKES: liars, conceited people, gossip, rumors, drama - so much of the things that are common in valkyrie. anything that's like, "you're not strong/smart/etc. enough because you're a girl." the idea of a school hierarchy, fakes, stereotypes, pain, and being judged.
FLAWS: in addition to the weaknesses; has a need for excitement, so she gets bored very easily, school comes easily to her (which is quite annoying to those who work hard), not one for wild parties/people, and when she doesn't try hard to focus, her mind can wander off easily - think a short attention span or easily distracted. she can also be quite a fun girl, but she's always too afraid to let that girl inside of her come out, afraid that somehow, she might let the secret slip out.
HABITS: whenever she's depressed, somehow she always thinks, "i'm not good enough for the mafia." even when the situation has nothing to do with it, doodling/drawing random things during those bored times in class, not showing any signs of crying/breaking down/incapability to do anything, when in front of people.
SECRETS: hmm, maybe the fact that she's a part of the italian mafia? or at least, she's training to be. celia doesn't care much for the mafia, to be honest, but she's only in it to prove to gain her father's acceptance. to hear him say or do something that shows how proud he is of her. that day has yet to come. she also has yet to fall in love with anyone and everyone, and she's a dreamer, not that she'd admit it.
BEST MEMORY: honestly? celia has never had good memory that really stood out to her, not that she has never had any good memories. just not a best one. if anything, the times where the whole family was together, but those days were when she was a little girl. if she could remember more, it would most definitely be her best memory, but that's not the case.
WORST MEMORY: leaving the beautiful italy to go to los angeles; it wasn't as bad as first, until she found out it was valkyrie - then she really didn't want to go. well, that was after her brothers told her about the shooting and everything else that went on.
OVERALL PERSONALITY: celia giovanni possesses many characteristics that other giovanni's have, as well as ones that only she has. one of the most important would have to be her loyalty, trust, and respect. earning it isn't very simple, since celia doesn't want to be loyal and just trust anyone and everyone. things could go wrong quickly if she did. as for respect, well, celia just felt that everyone should earn it; no matter who they are. and yes, she does care about people, and try to help them when she can. no, she doesn't volunteer everyday after school, but if celia passes by someone in distress, she'll help them if it doesn't involve anything that would result negatively; as in the revealing of the giovanni's secret, or just trouble. why? because though she does make exception to things, trouble can end up with police, which is what she should be avoiding, not laying around and doing things that would attract them.
speaking of attracting, celia isn't a girl that's, quote, 'easy', endquote. she has expectation, standards, and honestly, they don't seem very high, but it's hard to find a her kind of guy these days. that may have to do with the reason why she hasn't fallen in love yet, and sometimes she wonders if there's even someone for her out there, not that it's her main priority to find that one person; but it would just be nice to discover that soul mate everyone's talking about. sure, she'll go on dates if she has an interest, but nothing to crazy. that's just not her thing. celia may have friends who party or go to clubs even though they shouldn't, but she tries to avoid those sort of location for reasons mentioned earlier. what ever happened to dates at a nice restaurant, or even a movie? now it's all about hooking up and partying. um, no thank you.
with her sophistication, celia is like a classy girl with some spunk hidden inside of her. manners? yes, she has them, and it's pretty obvious. actually, celia may seem like a good girl to people just meeting her for the first time, when really, she isn't. they don't know that she knows how to defend herself, though she doesn't want to start violence unless it's completely necessary. what you don't know is that girl inside of her that's much like other teenage girls. this one has a lot for indie flicks and music, in addition to her boho chic fashion. she's pretty different from others, and isn't afraid to admit it. the whole 'queen bee' thing of schools? no, not her thing. she doesn't like the whole idea of high school students being able to boss around other ones just because of their popularity.
of course, celia has her flaws as well. it mostly has to do with the italian mafia one way or another. like her inability to trust people; which is why you better not break the bond if you're able to gain it. there are times when she doesn't have to act all mysterious and secretive, but she does. it's not that she tries too, but it's a habit when you're used to watching everything you say so things don't slip out. like, biting your nails. the girl is also eager to please, but not everyone. definitely not. mostly her father, since throughout her entire life, she's been yearning for his acceptance. why couldn't he just be proud of her? love her as much as he loved her older brothers? and because of him, celia has times when she can be a perfectionist.
something you might want to avoid doing? underestimating this girl. there's much to here than you would know, and when someone says she can't do something, she'll put an extra effort to prove them wrong. her entire life, her gender has kept her from doing lots of things and she's tired of it. don't get me wrong, she absolutely loves being a female, since boys can be some immature, but do people have to put her down so much? all it does is make her more determined, which is actually a good thing until it gets out of hand, which is possible. celia's one girl that is full of mysteries, but she's a fireball as well. you just have to get to know her instead of just judging, because first impressions don't always represent what a person truely is like.
AND WE'LL BOTH GROW OLD ,
CHARACTER HISTORY ,
well i don't know, i don't know, i don't know, i hope so
HOMETOWN: naples, italy
PARENTS: salvatore giovanni (43) & luciana lima (40)
SIBLINGS: two older twin brothers; caesar & dante
OTHER: all the giovanni's?
LIVING SITUATION: dorms to prove her independence and responsibility.
HISTORY: salvatore giovanni was right smack in the middle when it came to the age of his siblings. a lot of people would have to die before he would be able to take over the family business, and to be honest, he hated it, but never has he complained out loud. never had he done something to really stand out; sure, he participated in the activities of the mafia, but killing wasn't very uncommon, if you were to really think about it. the mafia was his top priorty, that is, until he met luciana lima, a girl who had moved to italy from brazil at a young age. after meeting luciana, they didn't fall in love right away, though they both did have an interest in the other. you see, there were many times were salvatore would cancel his plans for his family, but it's not like he could just tell luciana what those plans were. there was a lot of frustration and arguments involved, but the always seemed to make it up to her. before long, salvatore gave luciana a very vague description of what he was involved with, but it was good enough for her. after all, she'd find out more in the future, right?
a few weeks after their marriage, one night resulted in the pregnancy of luciana giovanni. when the two had found out that luciana was going to have twins, they were a bit worried at first, afraid that they may not be able to handle it. okay, only luciana had been afraid. salvatore may have been a bit worried at first, but the fact that the twins were boys made up for everything. things were pretty normal except for the fact that there were too little people inside of luciana, but salvatore made an a little extra effort to spend more time with his wife. soon enough, the boys were borned. caesar was the oldest, and then came dante. they had the usual sibling rivalry, plus some more considering how they were twins and felt like they needed to prove who was better than who. skip a few years and luciana was pregnant once more, but this time, the baby wasn't going to be a boy.
once celia was born, things were very much the same. she played with her brothers, occasionally feeling left out when they said things like, "no you play with this, because you're a girl." at the time, it didn't mean much to her, if nothing at all. they were her older brothers; what was she suppose to do about it, right? salvatore and luciana cared for their kids, and for a little time, they were almost like a true, normal family. the keyword being 'almost'. it wasn't long before things started to change throughout the family. luciana's love for her husband and children were endless, but salvatore started to have different views. keep in mind that this didn't have overnight, but salvatore started to think about his own brothers, specifically the ones older than him, and how they had children that they could depend on. ones that they were proud of. even if that wasn't how things really were, it was how salvatore saw things, and he started to question if his own children were what he wanted them to be.
as the boys grew older, salvatore started educating them on the mafia, leaving celia out of the picture for one reason and that was because she was a female. everytime she was left out, the smile she always had on her face would turn upside down. let it be known that celia was a happy little girl. nothing to worry about at that age, and she felt free. her mother definitely took notice and spent time with her only daughter, and so, celia grew to really love her mom. the thing was, all the stuff her mother enrolled her in, such as ballet, gymnastics, tennis, learning languages, wasn't fun to celia. she wanted to try things such as martial arts, and the only thing she really liked had been the art class. for some time, celia wasn't sure if she should tell her mother about what she wanted to try, for the girl had a slightly idea about what the 'family business' was about, and this was at nine years old.
for two years, celia continued doing all these classes, but never really found one that she loved. sure, art was fun, but it got boring to her after a while. and still, none of these things could take her mind off of wanting what her father never gave her anymore; love, attention, a 'good job'. it was all wasted on her brothers, and she envied them greatly. finally, celia told her mother what she wanted to try and all the things she wanted to quit, and although luciana was reluctant at first, she finally gave in. that is, only after telling celia about how the classes would benefit her in the future, and whatnot. truthfully, celia's life was like a regular teenager's. she had friends, she did good, if not excellent in school, had those insecurities, and so on. unlike the other kids, however, celia had the biggest secret of them all, and she was determined to keep it.
things changed so gradually over the years that even celia hadn't noticed. she learned how to defend herself and still did good in school, but what even she hadn't noticed was how much harder she was working to get her father to be proud of her. it couldn't, or at least, shouldn't be so difficult, and the whole situation was affecting her more than it should have been. she started being more mysterious, afraid that anything she said wrong would also affect her father's opinion of her. afraid that the secret would slip out. celia started perfecting everything she could; her manners, posture, work. nothing she did would impress her father. all he did was tell her what she was doing wrong, and that was only if he bothered to care about what she did to start with, which was a rare action. as for celia's relationship with her brothers; it wasn't anything special. she never felt close to them, and if anything, she had a bit of dislike for them that celia wished would go away, but it didn't seem possible. to her, it was hard to completely love someone when you're living in their shadows.
when celia was sixteen, her father told her that they were moving to america. specifically, to a city near los angeles by the name of valkyrie. she wasn't happy, no, not at all, but she wasn't going to complain, hoping that her maturity would impress her father. it didn't. when summer came, they moved to california, and celia made mental goals. it was a new place, which meant, a place to start over. she would show people who she was, make them respect her, and then, maybe her father would be proud. the thing was, she wasn't sure how to do that. oh well, maybe she'd figure it out along the way. once they moved to valkyrie, the girl was definitely fascinated by the new place. and yes, her mom had been right when she said that those classes would come in handy, for celia knew english, which made it easier for her to make the transition, compared to someone who hadn't known english when moving from italy.
hey there valkyrie. there's a new giovanni in town.
