the irish imports that inhabit the shaks. they are hands down my favorite family, i just love them to no end. this board was inspired by anna with her sirens. this is basically where i'll be posting past memories of the turners in both ireland and valkyrie as well as current conversations going on when they aren't in any rps. in case you don't know who my babis' are here is the basic stats you need to know. riley and reed are brothers. they have a little brother (side character regan) who has been in nevada since january '07 because of his addiction to drugs. finnegan and bevin are siblings.

bevin and her parents visit finn while he's in prison. ___________________________
this was why they didn't visit finn very often. it took damn near forever to get to the prison he was being held at. bevin turner was leaning against the family car, her head facing toward the sun. the car she was leaning on was stationary in front of a gas pump in which her father was loading the car up in fuel. you would have thought he would have done that before they actually left valkyrie. but he parents were never planning ahead. brady and cathleen were more of the 'oh, the dial's on empty? guess we should find a gas station,' kind of people. speaking of, cathleen came out of the gas station after going to the bathroom, her red hair flaming out. it was amazing that neither bevin nor finnegan inherited the red hair. she smiled at bevin and brady as her long hippie skirt blew in the september wind. "are you sure you don't need to go to the bathroom, honey?" cathleen asked bevin. bevin shrugged. she went before she left. the prison was only a hour and a half away from valkyrie. they were all acting like they were driving to florida or something.
"i'm fine," bevin said and looked at her mom from underneath the baseball cap she was wearing. it was finn's. she wondering if he would notice when they saw him. bevin really missed her brother. he'd been in prison for almost a year and this was only their second time coming to see him. he still had seven more months until he was would be released for the latest charges brought up against him. if it was bevin's choice, she would be visiting him every month. she was sixteen, but she never took drivers education. and if she did, she didn't have a car, so the license would be pointless.
another five minutes passed before brady got in the car and they started the last hour of the trip. yeah, they were only thirty minutes outside of valkyrie. the reason why it took this set of turners a lot of time to visit finn was that brady and cathleen ran a twenty four hour motel. it wasn't like house-sitting, so it was hard for them to give the motel to some of their employees for the day. that motel was their pride and joy.
the remaining sixty minutes consisted of bevin staring out of the window and flipping through her ipod. "we're here!" cathleen said in a voice that sounded excited. bevin was excited too, but they were at a prison. this was exactly disney world, here. it was creepy to think that behind these walls were murders, rapists, and child molesters. among other things, of course, but those ones just made her shudder. good thing finn wasn't any of those three. still, stealing cars wasn't really a gold star in there either, but he didn't touch or kill anyone. he was just stupid.
bevin kept close to her parents as they went in the visitors way. they were checked and got fancy little badges that said 'visitor' on them. then, they were shuffled into a big room with tables. she went through all of this before but every time it just made her sad. finally as they waited forever, the door opened and one of the prison guards was escorting finn, who was in handcuffs, to where bevin and their parents were seated. when finn got to their table bevin got up and hugged him tightly. "finn. i've missed you." she wasn't one to cry, but she felt like she was dry-swallowing a pill. "you got my hat." his voice was accented heavily, something he always strived to uphold, since moving to america. bevin smiled, "yeah, i hope you don't mind." finn shook his head as he seated himself across from their parents. "how are ya?" brady asked him roughly. "besides having six more months of this shit? i'm fine." bevin wondered if he was really 'fine.' collectively between both visits, he'd been in prison for fifteen months of his life. for only being twenty, that was a good chunk in bevin's opinion.
she watched her brother as he talked to them about the previous days. all involving him working out in his cell and playing poker for cigarettes. sounded... eventful. damn she would be so bored if that was her life. "promise we'll go surfing the day you get out?" bevin asked. finn smirked and nodded, "sure, bev. i've been dying without the ocean." well, he wouldn't be missing the ocean if he didn't steal a car. "yes, you've been missed in the kitchen, honey," cathleen said with a smile that would make anyone want to smile in return. finn didn't though, he just shrugged. "you know the cooking thing hasn't ever really been my thing." bevin, brady, and cathleen all scoffed at the same time. like hell it wasn't. finn might not think it's 'cool' to be a good cook, but people at the motel said otherwise. it was a hidden talent of his he refused to address. "you just need a plan son," brady started, "once you get out of here this time, we just got to get you back on track."
some parents blame themselves for their kids screwing up. cathleen and brady were definitely not one of them. they could only raise for so long, but when you fucked up, they took no blame - it was all on you. they had no problem helping you and putting you back on your feet. bevin never experienced this though. finn did once before. after the three month stint earlier when he was eighteen. "ok, dad," finn said. but not from the heart. bevin knew as well as their parents knew, it was only a matter of time before he got himself in trouble again.
eventually, the visit was over and they said their goodbyes before finn was led back to wherever he was going. bevin's mood deflated because it might possibly be the last time until april when he would be released. sometimes, having a criminal brother sucked.
well... it sucked all the time.

PART ONE
back in april '07, riley and reed took a road trip to nevada to visit little brother, regan, in the rehab/correctional facility he was sent to earlier that year.
___________________________
riley looked up from the map he was studying in the diner to see his younger brother reed exiting the bathroom down the hall. from where riley sat, he had a perfect view of the small hallway where the bathrooms were located. following reed out of the bathroom was a long-haired brunette. riley scoffed, shook his head and looked back down at the map when reed pressed the girl against the wall and started kissing her. a few minutes later a grinning reed slid into the booth seat across from riley. "you know how to get back?" reed asked.
the thing was, the turner boys were lost. they took a wrong turn and it wasn't for at least a few hours when reed said he read the map wrong and they were headed towards arizona. not nevada at all. "you should be telling me why you thought this line," riley started, pointing at a point on the map, "was the highway to nevada." reed leaned back. they had been in the diner for a half hour or so to order some food... with girl on the side for reed. while reed was in the bathroom, the burger and fries came. "dude, i'm sorry. take a fucking chill pill. it's not the end of the world. it's a road trip anyway. we have time to spare." riley shook his head. "like we have enough time for quickies in the bathroom?" reed smiled again. riley was betting reed was just waiting for his older brother to address it. "what can i say?" he shrugged. riley just looked at him. "well, you can start with saying you have a girlfriend," riley reminded him. reed rolled his eyes. "nikki doesn't know about holly, holly doesn't know about nikki. fuck riley, i don't even know much about holly." riley rolled his eyes this time. he was slightly impressed that reed even took the time to find out the random's name.
riley brought his coffee to his lips and took a drink. no way reed was going to drive because riley didn't want to risk his life. reed was probably half drunk right now. today, riley planned on driving back to the point where they got off track and back on track to nevada. find some motel and crash until the morning. "i still think it's wrong of you to be cheating. you're dating nikki." reed held up a finger and said, "no. nikki's dating me." riley gave him a confused look. he nodded hesitantly, not knowing if reed was joking. riley replied in a slower voice, drawing out his fading irish accent, "right..." reed shook his head though. "no. i'm not dating nikki. nikki's dating me. big difference, bro. big." riley was now shaking his head, squinting his eyes at the eighteen year old across from him. "what? that's not even close to making any sense." reed just shrugged his shoulders, a smirk on his face as he leaned back on the seat he was sitting in. it was like it was his own private joke. "it makes sense to me," reed murmured to himself. riley continued looking at the map, making sure his direction was right. "of course it makes sense to you." reed ate some fries and took a drink from the pop in front of him. "ok, maybe you're right. i don't want to fight." riley smirked. he knew he was right. he knew reed knew he was right. reed had to know how much of an idiot he sounded like.
"everything's cool," riley told reed taking the last bite of his burger. "are you ready though? if we want to get to regan in time we should start the back tracking now." riley started getting his wallet out to leave a tip and get the bill. reed's plate was still kind of full with a fourth of the burger eaten and a handful of fries left. "i'm not really hungry anyway." reed got up when riley did and paid and left. the diner was so one of those out of the movies. the sun was hot, looked like there was no civilization for miles, and they were walking on a gravel road. "do you think the next time we pass a gas station you can run in and get me a beer?" riley shook his head as he unlocked the doors to the car. "are you kidding? no way." riley hear reed scoff. the worst twenty-one year old brother, ever." "reed, what kind of message is that going to send regan when you, still eighteen, show up drunk to visit him? we're his support now. we gotta let him know we're..." he trailed off, trying to find the words. "not the fuck-ups the neighborhood still thinks we are?" riley broke a smile. "right. not fuck-ups."
