DISTINGUISHED FEATURES: Anya has a distinguishing look more than one or two specific distinguishing features but I would have to say her eyes have a lot to do with her look. Bright grey eyes with the tan skin and dark hair, tends to be pretty striking.
PERSONAL STYLE: Mmm Clothes. I'm sorry but as much as she may hate the preppy girly girls who seem to only care about shopping, clothes and how cute that boy's butt is, Anya loves her clothing. She is very Brooklyn chique in her attire. She is not afraid of colors and crazy patterns. She loves her layers and her jewelry which does anything but blend into the background. Her look is unique and fun, stylish and fairly complicated to tell the honest truth. But she loves it. Seriously this girl can almost be won over by a gift of costume jewelry and big hoop earrings and a brightly patterned scarf or two.
OTHER: Got to love Bi-racial women<3

WORST MEMORY: Her mothers death
OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Like every other human being on the planet, Anya has a problem with layers. People, just like ogres, are like onions; they have layers. She is one of those girls who doesn't wear her heart on her sleeve and then can seem to be one way but actually be another. She can believe on thing and be another without even realize it. Flaws as well as positives to what her personality brings to the table.
When you first meet Anya, unless you open with some cheesy pick up line, or something that sounds condescending to her, she will be friendly right off the get go. Anya is not a person who likes to pick fights, unless the person she is talking to says something she thinks makes it appropriate to step up of course. But anyways, in general, she's an easy person to strike up a conversation with. She will joke with you right away, try to show off her wit a bit. She is intelligent and while she is not really cocky or elitist about it, she does like people to recognize right off the bat that she is smart. If there is one thing the girl hates it's being treated as inferior. The ways people can really impress her is to be witty back. Have fun with conversation, make pop culture references, poke fun at celebrities with her. Or best yet, talk about art. She loves the art world and is a sucker for any educated person who knows his Manets from his Monets. But most important, speak up! have an opinion. She hates when she's the only one talking because she feels then that she's the only one taking the risk or putting forth any effort to form a friendship.
She is most definitely a conversationalist. Words are powerful. Everything in the history of the world was driven by words spoken loud and proud. Conversation, human interaction, it's something she needs. Anya is not one to do well with being alone for long periods of time. Perhaps it goes back to the three years she spent living with her cousins and grandparents where she was, for the most part, ignored and without friends. Another thing is she likes talking to the people around the city that were not involved or connected with the russian or italian or irish mobs or any other type of gangs, I mean my god she wanted a normal life. But seeing as she's a 17 year old girl, who had to change her name to stay off of the Russian mob's radar and ended up being adopted by one of the youngest FBI agents in history who was now her father figure despite he was only five years her senior, who also happened to be born a Giovanni and therefore had relatives in the Italian Mafia, actually was the youngest brother of the Head of the It. Mafia... yeah wow... she knew her life would never be anywhere close to normal. She was slowly accepting it.
Anyways, anyone who went through what she had the past few years and came out sane and fairly happy had to have thick skin and that she does. Anya is, for lack of a better term, tough. She can take a lot of shit and just throw it back to where it came from. She's not one to be stepped on or treated disrespectfully. That's as plain as I can say it. She's not afraid to say what she thinks either. She is blunt and honest about almost everything. Of course I say almost because she can't tell anyone who she is. She doesn't lie though. She just neglects to mention who she was before the name change and Tony adopted her. She has to keep up that wall for her own protection and honestly, it makes her feel safe knowing she's not allowed to get super close to anyone. She has some large trust issues, not surprising, most people in the world do, even those who lived lives that seemed ideal. There was something instinctual in not trusting everyone. Humans were animals when it came down to it, and they were selfish as a survival technique. Selfish, territorial plus, like Dr. House says, "everyone lies." So it seems natural for people to have trust issues, but those instincts are strengthened through experiences and Anya's experience tells her to only trust Tony, although she trusted her mother as well.
Now, her relationship with Tony, an FBI agent who saved her life from criminals, has been rewarding and one thing it has done is strengthen her moral thermometer. Anya has very strong feelings when it comes to the words right and wrong. She has strong opinions when it comes to the law and the severity of punishments. While she is fairly liberal in most aspects of politics, when it comes to crime, she is pretty conservative. She is all for harsher punishments on things like child molestation, rape, murder, and kidnapping. She is less for the hard punishment when it comes to those caught with weed, even if she finds stoners annoying. She thinks it's ridiculous that a man who was convicted of murder can get financial aid for college when he gets out but a guy who was caught smoking pot once isn't... that's just stupid. Anyways, to the point, the bad thing is to Anya, right and wrong is almost always a black and white thing for her. If you did something wrong, it's your fault, take the punishment. That's it. She hates thieves and scam artists, like most she hates murderers and rapists too but if she finds out a friend of hers once sold drugs, they are no longer her friends. She is VERY judgmental to anyone who gets on the wrong side of law because it just reflects the people her cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents were.
And the thing was, none of these above mentioned qualities are all that surprising. She's an artsy girl who had a strong mother for an example the first 13 years of her life, she's from brooklyn, she's not one to be stepped on, most of these above qualities are expected. What's not, sorrow. Through every layer of the onion of anya, at the core, is sorrow. Well, that and a love of figure skating but in a way the figure skating is related. Anya knows she stayed sane because the first 13 years of her life, her main formative years were spent with her mother. Her mother who loved her, cared for her, sacrificed for her and yet always made her smile. Anya's first 13 years were extremely happy, even without a dad. But her mother was dead and she would never come home from school to see Monopoly on the coffee table and virgin margaritas next to them with some classic James Brown playing in the background as her mom said plainly, "I am so going to win this round, hour tops." Everytime she said that and every game, they never finished. Her mom was also the one who taught Anya to skate. It was why Anya still had such a drive too. Not only did you feel gorgeous and graceful every time your skate hits the ice, not only was it the closest to feeling like you're flying as a human can every get on the ground, but every time she nailed a double toe loop, she knew her mom was the one to thank. She felt more connected to her.

HISTORY:
Anastassia Kovalsky was not your average girl. She was born in Moscow, Russia. Her father was Yakov Kovalsky, head of the Russian Mafia. But while her father worked in the United States, Anastassia lived in Russia. She stayed away from the violence and crime as much as she could. She was a figure skater too. A damn good one. She simply wasn't interested in being a criminal. But when she was sixteen, her father sent for her and then it was off to New Yor City for the young girl. The only plus side was that she was now able to compete in American figure skating competitions. She did well, even qualified for the nationals when she met Jose. He was a rough and tumble kind of guy but he was also gorgeous and a one night sort of deal. She was seventeen and he had already disappeared from her life by the time she was pregnant. She tried to find him, tell him, but all he had told her was that his name was Jose and he was from Los Angeles.... do you know how many Jose's live in Los Angeles for gods sake?! Finding the father of her future child wasn't going to happen so she had no choice but tell her family. Let's just say, the Russians were not happy with her or the thing growing inside her. They were furious actually but they agreed to help take car of her and the child financially but for a steep price. Anastassia basically became a deal maker and not the respected the kind but the kind that came naked and reluctant but willing. They figured she was already a whore for sleeping with that spic(forgive me, it's just demonstrating the type of men her brothers and father and uncle were).
When she gave birth to a beautiful, tan little girl, her father named her Evelina Kovalsky(the future Anya giovanni). While her mother and strangers on the street saw the baby girl as adorable and perfect, her grandfather and the rest of her extended just saw her as an ugly, un-pure creature. Only half Russian, half Puerto Rican and of course from a father who wasn't approved by them. She was a bastard child. But her mother fawned over her. Needless to say, Anastassia's dreams of being a skater were now completely obliterated. She had a child to look after now. Despite threats from their extended family, and her mother's hellish obligations to them, most of Evelina's, or Eve as she was nicknamed, most of Eve's childhood just consisted of her and her mother. She loved it. She had a good childhood. Her and her mom lived in a small apartment in Brooklyn. But as soon as Eve was old enough to walk, her mother put skates on her feet. Figure Skates. The little girl was a natural. She skated better than she walked. And she loved it. Her mother assured her, if she didn't want to skate she didn't have to but Eve felt like she could fly. The movements were so quick and smooth. It was as close to flying as anyone could get as for a girl who never really felt attractive due to her extended families distain for her, the feeling on the ice was this graceful and delicate feeling she absolutely fell in love with. Even the girly little outfits that came with it.
And that's how it was for them. Anastassia was in hell fulfilling her obligations but in heaven when she was with her daughter. The was she saw everything was that she would never be ashamed of what she had to do, even if she didn't like it. Her baby was worth it. And it was a message she did everything she could to pass on to her daughter. Never be ashamed of what you are. If other people don't like it, it's their own damn faults and they're not good enough for you anyways. But despite everything, Eve's first thirteen years went by rather happily and quickly. One night, when Eve was thirteen, her mother didn't come home until extremely late. Now her mother was out late because of her obligations a lot but this time was different. This time, Late didn't mean 1 or 2 AM. this time it meant eight in the morning. She came home with a torn dress, ruffled hair, bloody lip and eye that was swollen shut. She ran into their apartment and shook Eve awake telling they had to go and they had to go now. Eve, being scared, did what she was told and started packing everything she could. But her mother grabbed her arm and froze, listening as men's footsteps were heard outside their apartment. Panicked her mother pushed her behind the couch just as her father, Eve's grandfather and a bunch of men walked in. Nothing was said but Eve saw her grandfather nod a bit when another man shot Anastassia in the torso a total of four times and was dead before she hit the floor. Eve, who of course had been hiding behind the couch saw her mother go down and screamed. Hearing the girl, her uncles grabbed her by the arms. She was now, afterall their responsibility.
Evelina had watched her mother be shot and then had no choice but be raised by the same "family" that pulled the trigger. She fought against it but it brought her nothing but backhands to the face. Eventually she just didn't fight it but she never accepted it. Now, the change of location was something to get used to. Being in the high end apartments of the Russians was far different. Smoke filled rooms, gambling, she was the oddball. No one acted like they wanted her there but they enjoyed watching the scared girl fetch them drinks and such. They still verbally abused her, especially her appearance and bloodline. There was a bit of physical abuse but not as much as you could expect. She was backhanded a fair few times. Locked into closets for long periods of time, things like that. She was never beaten though. She was hit on, ironic seeing as they all called her ugly. And while none of her cousins or uncle raped her, thank god, sexual harassment was a different matter. But by the time she was fifteen, she had become so used to it, she had attained a stone faced independence as they spat out their dribble. She talked back, not to a severe degree but enough to get her slapped a hell of a lot more often.
She also started to date. Never seriously but a date of dinner and a movie that would end in a steamy make out session sure. Soon she was sleeping with the guys but she never got a boyfriend. It was something about as many guys finding her sexy as she could find. Made her feel better about life. But still, soon even that ended. She just got bored by their lame attempts of coming onto her. The only thing that ever really made her happy, something her "family" hadn't ripped away from her, was ice skating. It was her one escape and the one place in the world she felt her mother was right there next to her. By now, Eve was extremely good at it too. She even competed in competitions around New York. She was never allowed to go out of the state to follow up but she was good, very good.
When she was sixteen, three years after her mother was murdered, her life took another sharp turn in a different direction. One night she awoke to a hand around her throat and an injection in her arm. She was then out cold. When she woke up she was locked in the back of a large cargo truck. She was dragged out of the truck by her uncle and tossed over to some strangers who basically looked at her like meat before nodding and tossing over a bag of cocaine followed by his men loading more and more into the Russians truck where she had just been. She watched her uncle give them some money and the Irish men threw her into the trunk of one of their cars. She heard them say she was to be a gift for the guys son. She banged at that trunk door with all her strength as the car drove away. She had never been more terrified in her entire life. Like fuck she was going to be someone's fucking cracker jack prize! She kicked at that trunk door. It was on the road for about 20 minutes and she had finally given up, exhausted and in pain, crying, when the car turned around very quickly and spun out and crashed, she heard people shouting it. It was the FBI. She opened her eyes and began screaming through her gag and kicking at the door again when she heard multiple gunshots going off. It all went silent for a bit as Eve listened for any movement.
She heard the latch of the trunk door being unlocked and immediately her mind went into a panic. Oh god, it's them. They killed the FBI. I'm dead, etc. But squinting a bit as light flood in she saw a tall, handsome faced young FBI agent who immediately cut her binds and pulled her out of the trunk. He rushes her into his vehicle with another agent and they take off, calling in a team to go to the accident site, forensics as well as they left some men there. No FBI agents had been hurt but they took Eve straight to the FBI headquarters in New York where they asked for her statement. And not that they expected this, most of the time it's girls who either know nothing, or are too scared to say anything. Not Eve. She told them everything. They had killed her mother and now, she was going to take as many of those sons of bitches down as she could. She didn't care if they chased her down and killed her afterwards. She just wanted them locked up. She hated them. After her statements and agreeing to testify, she was brought to a safe house. Three agents were there with her, one of whom was the young agent who had pulled her out of the trunk. His name was Antonino Giovanni. But everyone just called him Tony. She enjoyed those four days with the Agents in the safe house. She and Tony talked a lot. He told her all about his family, the Italian mafia and how, while they had never wanted to sell him as a wife, they had had some similar experiences and it bonded them. Well, that and a crapload of pizza and video games.
He sort of looked after her during the whole case at which she testified and they FBI was able to put away fifteen criminals. Afterwards though, she was free. The state refused to emancipate her. They requested she be put into foster care. Tony was against that. The foster care system was extremely flawed and not watched closely enough and there were still people that would want to hurt her. Witness protection refused and she had no money so Tony went to her and he asked her if she would take a different solution that would seem strange and wow did it. He asked her about adoption, what if he adopted her? He could legally and easily and he could help keep her protected, they could change her name and all that.... and then when she's 18... well, she'd be 18. Eve agreed, no other way right? So then she became Anastassia Giovanni. She took her mothers name but formed the nickname Anya, a name her mother never went by. And when Tony was been promoted a bit less than a year later, she went with him, switching coasts to have her senior year in Valkyrie, California while Tony moved in between Valkyrie and LA for his work.
