IN YOUR MOUTH, IN YOUR SOUL ,
CHARACTER PERSONALITY ,
the more we move ahead the more we're stuck in rewind
STRENGTHS: friendly with people, what happened to her and how she got through it, drawing, good eye for pictures, family support, good mother
WEAKNESSES: her son rocco, the thought of connor coming back, intelligent men, sweet and romantic lines
LIKES: her son, art, photography, having security, eating, roller blading, schooling, education, the beach, italy, los angeles, her family, the family name [even if she isn't apart of it], british literature, writing in her journal
DISLIKES: the irish, guys who don't like her kid, people judging and assuming how she got pregnant, being looked down on, being under estimated, science, the book 'the scarlet letter', therapists, waking up in a cold sweat, nightmares, being criticized on her drawings,
FLAWS: had issues with her weight growing up, really stubborn
HABITS: constantly looks over her shoulder, over protective mother, ocd about locking doors, randomly pulls out her sketch book when she sees something she likes,
SECRETS: italian mafia, she was raped when she was sixteen
BEST MEMORY: violet likes to have lots of happy memories. she loved learning to horseback ride in naples with her father, daily lunches with her cousins at school, feeling accomplished when she did a painting she actually liked. but her best memory is actually the mother in her. it's a series of them. when rocco first walked, when he first talked. call her cheesy but it just made her feel good inside, like she was actually doing an okay job with her son.
WORST MEMORY: obviously, violet's worst memory was the several days she was held hostage by the irish mafia in los angeles. mafia commanders tried beat out of her what the giovannis were up to with an upcoming shipment. it wasn't even the worst part. the last night, one of the irish soldiers, connor, came down the stairs and raped her, leaving her pregnant. not that she'd ever regret her son, but if connor would have waited even an hour, violet would have been rescued and the entire traumatizing incident would'nt have happened. violet still has nightmares about it, especially since connor is still alive and kicking.
OVERALL PERSONALITY: she has always been nice. some may say too nice. that is actually the first thing she was told as a girl in junior high. 'you are too nice for your own good.' violet never kicked her compassionate nature and is still the sweetest girl you'll meet. she feels for people and knows how they may be feeling. she feels weird when she acts like a bitch because it's just not her. she always smiles and her mood is often very happy. of course, you wouldn't think she would be so damn happy all the time with what she went through, but she is. what she went through made her stronger as a person and made her enjoy life more.
you aren't going to get what you want when you are just going to take crap from people and let them walk all over you. violet can get really persuasive. this trait of hers however, she developed once she moved to los angeles. this was something she was never born with. violet's defining characteristic is her quiet and sensitive self. she use to only feel confident when her friends were with her. alone in a room with people she didn't knew but didn't talk to at all, she was the quiet one. she broke out of this shell after the incident at sixteen, but she still has it. her family still sees her as the quiet girl who painted as a kid. but nowadays at the academy, she's seen as the happy-go-lucky girl. violet thinks of it as she could have died, so she took her second chance of trying to do things differently. she's still trying to find herself.
she's smart, she has a very good head on her shoulders. most importantly, she knows what she wants to do. her thinking has been well beyond her years for quite some time. she had to grow up fast once she found out she was pregnant and she did it quite well. violet didn't mope around and pity herself, she got over the fact that she was sixteen and pregnant and figured out what she was going to do about it. which brings up the fact that she's a mother, and if she says so herself, she believes she's a pretty good one. she always puts her son first and is always looking out for him. some members of her family really admire her for how committed she is to raising her son, without asking much help from the family.
AND WE'LL BOTH GROW OLD ,

HISTORY: vito giovanni longed for a big family. big italian families like his often follow traditions. he was the youngest son of the giovanni clan, but also the one that got himself in constant trouble, which alberto sr. was getting him out of. he was born in italy, moved to los angeles as a child and when he was eighteen, went back to italy to visit family while on a vacation in the summer. that's where vito met her. his other half, his soul mate. lina was the daughter of a man who was in the 'family' without having any relation to them. lina was a year older, and vito could look back and say it was 'love at first sight' with them. in fact, it was so 'love at first sight' that at eighteen and nineteen, the two eloped in italy. no big fancy wedding, no family. just the two of them and lina's twin sister as a witness. it was another thing vito also had a problem with; he was very impulsive when it came to decisions. good thing he wasn't the oldest, the giovanni family might not have been as successful as it is today. alberto sr. wasn't too keen on the quickie marriage. he welcomed lina in the family with open arms but was disappointed in vito's erratic behavior. he thought with his heart, and not his head. the young couple, after spending a year in los angeles, decided to move to italy to start a family early. lina had an easy time conceiving and at nineteen twenty, the pair had a daughter, who they named violetta juliet.
she was a beautiful baby. thick brown hair, warm brown eyes. it was one look and you were under the spell the fair child held over you. she was loved and grew up quite a luxurious lifestyle that never affected her in the long-run. she was spoiled as a child, but never let it get the best of her. her parents truly thought she was a perfect and flawless child, and how blessed they were. having a child so young, it was hard the first few years. vito and lina had their fights but always somehow made up at the end of the day. 'never going to bed angry' was their motto and it worked for the couple. the little family of three had a very small house (they insisted the simpler the better) in a beautiful location in italy, it's violet's favorite place to this day. the house was small and quaint, only one floor. a beautiful garden surrounded the sides and back, cobblestone steps led to the wooden front door. the windows were always always open, with a small breeze of fresh air constantly filling the house. you got a pretty good idea how it looked? this was where violet became as artistic and a big dreamer. she's spend hours laying in the tall grasses looking up in the sky, feeling italy for what it was. it is a feeling no one could describe.
violet was thirteen years old when they got the call from the states that alberto sr., leader of the giovanni crime family was shot to death during a war with the irish. many of his sons packed their families up and moved to america, vito was one of them, so the little house was abandoned and violetta met up with more of her cousins in los angeles. so it's very hard not to like violetta, she's really close to all of her cousins, she lived with a bunch of them at one time in the giovanni mansion in los angeles. her and christian shared a lot of the same interests in the art department. she was one of the older cousins, and she did not fully understand what exactly her family was involved in, but slowly each and every one of the cousins found out sooner or later. violet for one was fine with the whole idea. she thought it was cool. not many women really amounted to anything in the chain of mafia ranks, besides, she wanted to paint, draw, and take breathtakingly beautiful pictures.
she took ballet lessons, learned to play the piano, but those she never took all that seriously, her parents enrolled her in some art classes she took at art studios. she was gifted, had a knack for detail and color, at fifteen, she had several paintings published in art magazines. some were hung around the mansion. it was routine. everyday after school her and christian walked the same route, she stopped at the first building for art lessons, he walked around the street for photography workshops. photography was let out earlier, so she never met up with him until she got home. the black cadillac was always waiting for her directly outside. she got in and did other homework on the way back to giovanni homestead. it was a time when things between the irish mob and the italian mafia were heated. bickering over casinos, smuggling weapons, and the black market. she knew some things, only thing she would pick up as she walked past a room or heard someone talk about as she moved around the house, but it wasn't like she was in on any of the important meetings. but kidnappings for the irish were all about proving points and getting what they wanted out of it. violetta fell victim to that.
she left the art studio five minutes early that day, 2:55 pm. who knew that would make all the difference? she got into the black cadillac that was always stationed outside that took her directly home. violet flung the door open and hopped in. right when she slid in her seat she was sitting next to someone she had never seen before in her life. then she just knew what the deal was. violet turned as fast as she could to the door and struggled to try and open in but the man was too fast and he was pinning her to the seat. the car sped away as the violet tried her best to defend herself. there were a few slaps coming from both of them but within thirty seconds of leaving the curb she was hit on the back of the head with a blunt object. she blacked out.
when violet came to, she had no idea where she was. she was for one in a basement from the looks of it, and she was handcuffed to a pole in the center of the basement. she immediately got panicky and started crying, screaming for help. on cue, the door to the floor above opened and someone came down the stairs. he was older than her, if he did have anything to do with why she was handcuffed to a poll, she might have considered him good looking. though violet did not know it at the time, he was twenty four, nine years older than her. he said his name was connor. of course when he said his name, the irish accent was very audible for her and she knew who she was kidnapped by... the irish. at the time, the irish were worse than the russians were and they weren't on good terms with the giovannis. violet bursted into tears because she just knew she was going to die. like the irish would let her off the hook. in response to the crying connor slapped her and that really only terrified her more, but she was silent. then he told her he had a few questions. a few more men, that looked like they had more authority over connor came down and started to ask her questions.
back on the giovanni-front. they knew exactly who took her and that she was kidnapped when she wasn't there at the art studio. vito was going crazy, his eldest brother and mafia leader, fausto had to calm him before he did something stupid, which would have been natural for the 'on-a-whim' brother to do. now, the police have their fleet, the giovannis have their own fleet. lina desperately wanted to call the police but both fausto and vito knew that was out of the question. everyone was keeping their eyes and ears opened and searched l.a for violetta. back in the basement of an unknown building, violetta was being interrogated by five irish mobsters about a deal her family was involved in. violetta was so confused why they were asking her, she never knew much. of course she knew a little bit about some guns coming in the gios were going to steal, but like she was going to admit that too them. even if her life was probably depending on it. this went on for two days, slapping and interrogating. violet wouldn't budge though and they were getting frustrated with her. she was starving, but they refused to feed her until she gave some information.
on the night of the third day being locked up, it was after they left again, telling her that either the dehydration or the starvation would kill her, they had all month, she did not. well anyway, the door opened, and violet pretended to be asleep, her head leaning against the poll. she could feel someone breathing on her but she kept silent. until she heard some keys jingle and her eyes popped open. it was connor. alcohol was on his breath as he unlocked the cuffs around her wrists. she, to this day had no idea why he did, violet guessed it was because he was drunk. well, as weak as she was, adrenaline took over and she pushed her way away from him and started running up the stairs. very bad mood. because he was drunk, he became more angry that she was trying to run away. he followed her up the stairs and caught her foot. violet fell down on the stairs and connor dragged her back on the floor. she was kicking and screaming though it was useless. there was a lot of struggling on the floor as he tried to kiss her and violet just trying to push him off her, maybe he'd get bored of her struggling and move on. though, it aggravated him because connor started using much more force on her. she was still screaming through tears when he started tearing at her clothes.
he ended up raping her. it felt like hours thought in reality, it was only a few minutes. those few minutes would change her life forever. when it was over, he just left her there. connor didn't even tie her back to the poll. she was too petrified to move, and she was crying. again time passed slowly for her, she didn't think only cried. it was another twenty minutes, twenty minutes to late and all she heard was gunshots upstairs. vito, alberto jr, fausto, and along with some other giovanni men we having a full-out shootout with the irish. connor escaped. the giovannis got a tip that violetta was in an abandoned house in an irish neighborhood. took them awhile, but they found the house thanks to a stray irish foot soldier who was given the choice to lose the use of his kneecaps or tell them which house. vito, fausto, and alberto went down to the basement and found the injured and dirty violetta still crying on the floor. vito was heartbroken. he felt like it was all his fault. when violet saw that her father was kneeling next to her, she started crying again. was she actually saved? the three guys knew what happened to the fifteen year old. they tried getting her out of there as quickly as possible. everyone soon learn what happened to violetta in the basement, or well they had a pretty good idea what happened. she didn't talk about it. she told fausto and her father what they were trying to get out of her, and they were relieved she didn't say anything. she refused to see a therapist on what happened to her. she became a little depressed. violet wouldn't go anywhere unless she was with someone. she hated when people touched her, she'd flinch. she often stayed at the mansion painting pictures and drawing.
on cue, eight and a half weeks after her attack, she hadn't had her period yet. she couldn't believe it. violet knew she couldn't be pregnant with her rapist's baby. that stuff just didn't happen to fifteen year olds. she told her cousin christian first. violet didn't have siblings, christian and her had the same artistic interests so it fit that they were closer. christian was only fourteen at the time. violet told him what happened to her in the basement, the only one to date that ever heard the actual story. christian did the best of what he could, he was there, supportive, and convinced her to tell vito and lina. when violet did tell her parents, they were angry. not at her, of course, but at whoever did this to their daughter. vito had no idea if he killed the guy that did this when they stormed the house, he was hoping he did. vito sat violet down to talk about her options. as in - she should get a abortion. the thought horrified her. though she was terrified and sick to her stomach that it was conor's, the thought of an abortion never crossed her mind. when she said no, vito tried explain that she wasn't suppose to have a baby. it was unplanned, result of a rape, and it was some guy from the irish mob. violet was persistent. it was her baby too, and it was family. when had the giovannis ever turned their back on family? violet was going through with the pregnancy.
it was hard for her, especially at school where she went from being 'one of the beautiful giovannis' to 'the pregnant chick.' she was a sophomore in high school, it spread like wild fire. though she had alberto, christian, paolo, and miles protecting her every step of the way at school, it would have been impossible to not see one of those boys standing next to her all through-out the day. she turned sixteen and a few months later she gave birth to a baby boy she named rocco. it was a hard few months, but the giovannis are a big family, and everyone fell in love with the baby boy. a few months after she had rocco, vito heard from a little bird that his daughter's rapist was alive and well. moved up a few ranks on the irish totem pole and was absolutely livid that the giovanni girl he raped a year ago had his kid. vito decided to take violet out of school and she was home schooled her junior year. even at sixteen, she was a good mother, don't under estimate her, but it was still hard for her. she insisted on doing everything herself. she knew why she was removed from school. connor knew about rocco. she still had nightmares about that night.
after a year she insisted on going back to school her senior year. she still had paolo, miles, and christian and the twins. she eased back in well and she was doing a lot better with the nightmares. seemed like after getting out of the house was doing better for her. it was like she was actually happy. yes, this terrible tragedy happened to her, but she got a wonderful son. she was young and it shouldn't have happened like this... but she wasn't regretting it. she stopped being scared of connor. he hadn't tried to get to her. she was accepted in ucla for art and it was like she could do things with her life, make it better for her and rocco. she lived at the house still, she studied, she worked, she rarely went out. she had a responsibility. vy did not view it like a burden, she was eighteen but loved her two year old son more than life herself. violet was sad when christian decided not to join her at ucla, instead he went to back pack around europe.
so things can only go well for so long, right? well at the beginning of her sophomore year at ucla, the nightmares started again and she had a strange feeling she was being followed around campus. she told alberto, and asked if he could look around. see if he could find anything on connor. alberto did and he found out that conner has been definitely stalking her on campus. it shook her. violet did not want this to come back at her, after she just got over it and moved past it. the two went to vito and fausto with al's findings and vito asked what she wanted to do. violetta said she wanted to move; and take rocco with her. fausto arranged that violetta transfer to valkyrie university and move her and rocco into his family's mansion. no more than a week later, violetta arrived in valkyrie in november.
she hated that she had to run away from him, it was like she was giving up, though her aunt, annora [fausto's wife] told her it was far from giving up, she was looking out for her safety and rocco's. now, violetta's eased into valkyrie quite nicely. she's been hear for awhile. she goes to classes and takes rocco to daycare. it harder for her to date guys, though it's happened. they either get freaked about rocco, or violetta gets sensitive on the sex subject. she's only twenty, so she doesn't need to find her lifetime partner anytime soon. she feels safe again, yet she still looks over her shoulder from time to time. she just wants to finish college, maybe find a place for her and rocco to live soon, she feels she's been relying on her family too much the past four years. she's happy christian is back in valkyrie, though it was the funeral of their younger cousin, angelica. overall, she's happy with valkyrie and plans to stay here for awhile.
