IN YOUR MOUTH, IN YOUR SOUL ,
CHARACTER PERSONALITY ,
the more we move ahead the more we're stuck in rewind
STRENGTHS: painting, running, has a natural sort of charisma, making chocolate zucchini bread, has a decent singing voice, creative.
WEAKNESSES: paying attention for longs periods of time, concentrating, ice cream, funny guys, charming guys, secrets, sitting still.
LIKES: running, chinese food, chocolate, old movies, art, painting, abba, nail polish, blueberries, french fries, milkshakes, dancing around, bright colors, ice cream, singing, talking, shampoo that smells like green apple, shampoo that smells like vanilla, curling her hair, peaches, santa hats, people who have a sense of humor, van gogh, colorful knee socks, laughing, moving, dogs, swimming, cake, georgia o'keefe, making homemade pizza, bedazzlers.
DISLIKES: sitting still, salami, being lied to, cramps, forgetting what she was planning on doing, having to wear bandaids, orange starbursts, being told to be quiet, manipulative people, being sick, being bored, her parents' divorce, angry cats, grapefruit, jeans that fit too tight around the middle, when things get too quiet, lots of homework, rodents, pms, movies that make her cry too much, when people make fun of her adhd, fake christmas trees.
FLAWS: doesn't have much of an attention span when it comes to most things, pretty terrible at keeping secrets, bites her nails, unintentionally nosy, disruptive in a classroom setting, can be a bit naive every now and then, sometimes has troubles maintaing relationships, easily distracted, hyper.
HABITS: singing loudly when bored, humming, going for a long run every day, moving around a lot, blaring abba and dancing around while painting, eating an ice cream sundae after dinner.
SECRETS: kissed a girl once when she was fifteen just to see what it was like. she's also completely terrified of rodents.
BEST MEMORY: the day after her thirteenth birthday. after all her friends had left after her birthday party, her parents took her out for ice cream and window shopping and they spent pretty much the whole day talking and laughing. it wasn't such an important memory to leda until her parents started fighting all the time and she realized it was the last time she could remember the three of them being truly happy together.
WORST MEMORY: the day she found out her mother was having an affair.
OVERALL PERSONALITY: leda has never really been the type of girl you generally overlook in a room. and, seven times out of ten, it's because she's talking loudly, singing, or jittering around a bit hyper-like. she's always been this way, and up until she was about six and diagnosed with adhd, it didn't make the hugest amount of sense. nowadays her symptoms are better than when she was a child, but she's still hyper and has trouble staying on task and keeping her concentration. she gets distracted very frequently - she can't count the number of times she's started on some homework, gotten sidetracked, and happened accidentally upon the assignment again a couple of hours later, quite surprised, to find that she'd only written two sentences - and can't sit still for very long without feeling the urge to get up and move around. that being said, leda can be a real walking bundle of disruption in a setting meant to be orderly and quiet... like a classroom. which was one of the reasons her parents decided to hire her a private tutor. she's gotten much better at handling herself, but there are times when things just don't seem to work out.
considering that, it's fairly obvious leda's the kind of person one might find irksome from time to time, though she rarely ever means to bother anyone. in fact, it's pretty rare for her to intend any real malice to anybody. the only exception is when she's really pissed off. but, most of the time, she's a verifiable sweetie. however, it is in her nature to get carried away and become temporarily oblivious of other people's feelings from time to time. it's next to impossible for her to keep a secret and she's always been one to say exactly what's in her head or act on an impulse before thinking thoroughly about it. however, when she realizes she's hurt someones feelings or something, she always feels bad and does her best to fix it, because leda likes it when things are happy. she's not concerned with getting caught up in drama and all that stuff plaguing teenage girls across the country that they're always complaining about. she's more concerned with being completely unconcerned and enjoying herself.
however, this isn't to say that she'll put up with a bunch of bullshit. if you genuinely piss her off (the most common way of achieving this is constantly behaving like a captain of all the ass hats), she'll eventually bite your head off. and, when she's really mad, she tends to stay really mad for a long time, because it takes some serious provocation to get her really mad. in most cases she'll get over it if she's given enough time to have her own space. however, there is the odd occaison during which she'll vow revenge, so consider yourself warned.
lastly, leda is one of them artsy kids. she's been in love with art in general since she was eight years old, and painting is her art venue of choice. it's how she expresses herself; she puts whatever is in her head on a piece of canvas, which probably explains why she hardly ever does anything but abstract stuff. what she really loves about it is, to her, art is everything and can make anything possible. and, not unlike some of them other artsy kids, it's much easier for her to wrap her head around things like art, because it's much less contained than all that other boring stuff, like math and history and grammar, all of which have strict, inhibiting rules. she's a right brainer all the way.

LIVING SITUATION: valks
HISTORY: the moment that hugo rose met hannah wickford was a fateful one. he was a snarky, promising young writer, celebrating the publication of his latest book, and she was a passionate, dedicated young journalist. they were both in the living room of the stately rose estate in philadelphia, during a party being hosted by hugo's parents. upon laying eyes on hannah, hugo decided he wanted her and from there on out it was one of those fun turbulent stories of romance. they disagreed on almost everything and fought almost constantly and publicly denounced any affection for each other. and yet, a year later they were engaged. the wedding followed six months later and, not two months later, so did a positive pregnancy test. initially, hannah had wanted an abortion. she didn't feel ready for children. she wanted to focus on her career. she hadn't ever wanted to be a mother while still in her twenties. but hugo talked her out of it. mind you, it took about a solid month of arguments and indecisiveness, but he managed it and felt quite accomplished about it, because he knew his wife and that once she made her mind, it was damn near impossible to change it. approximately six months later, on september 15th, 1989, hannah gave birth to a daughter, whom she named leda beverly wickford-rose.
leda had a fairly average babyhood and was a fairly average baby, though perhaps she was a bit louder than most. things got more interesting as she grew up a bit. as a child, she was very hyper, jittery, loud and easy to sidetrack... not unlike how she is today, but back then it was a bit more extreme. her parents did suspect that she might have some sort of disorder but never had her evaluated. and then her first day of kindergarten rolled around. her teacher didn't waste much time in informing her parents of how leda was very loud and disruptive in class and how she didn't follow instructions. at first her parents weren't very concerned. they assumed that it was just because leda was rambunctious and unused to the school environment. however, after several months, when discipline did very little to improve leda's behavior, they decided that it would probably be prudent to get her examined in case she did have some sort of attention deficit disorder. they booked an appointment, and, lo and behold, leda was diagnosed with adhd.
she wasn't immediately put on any sort of medication, but special measures were taken by her teachers to help make it harder for her to get distracted or be disruptive. she started having one on one lessons with a kind of special ed type teacher outside of her regular classroom, seeing as her classmates and all the toys and cool stuff around a typical kindergarten room were distractions waiting to happen. and, after a couple of months, hannah, who had previously been against medication, relented and a perscription was readily written up. the rest of the school year passed without major incident and, upon its completion, hugo and hannah both decided that it would be better for leda if they were to hire her a private tutor; so that's exactly what they did.
private education proved to suit leda. while working one on one with the teacher her parents hired and without all the distractions attending school with her peers provided, it was more discernable that she was a fairly bright kid. the only issue it posed was her being cut off from her friends most of the day, which bugged her more and more as she got older. she hated being so out of the loop and hearing about all the fun stuff that had happened at school several days after the fact and not being able to understand all the inside jokes that the fun stuff caused. to her immense happiness, that all changed a bit when she was twelve. it had always been pretty evident that leda had an aptitude for art, though she hadn't had a lot of instruction in the subject because her tutor wasn't very qualified to cover that area and her parents hadn't had much luck in finding someone who could teach her that wasn't obscenely expensive and could work on their schedule. finally, her tutor suggested that she take an art class at her old school. her parents thought it would probably be a good idea and arranged it. which sent leda over the moon, of course.
leda recalls her early teenage years and stages of adolescence as a pretty happy time of her life. for a long time, her daily activities were organized by a routine set for her by her parents. she got up, had breakfast, did some lessons throughout which she had several breaks where she could get up and walk around to appease her antsy nature, had lunch, took a two hour long break during which she usually went for a lengthy run - her tutor had suggested running as an exercise venue to help her blow off steam and excess energy - , went to art class, did another lesson or two, had some free time which she usually spent hanging out with friends, ate dinner, and then time to do her homework or have some fun. it occaisonally irritated her, not being able to do what she wanted when she wanted, but whenever she complained she was told that the structure was good for her. it was around this point that she entered the giggly world of dating and boys. her first couple of boyfriends hardly lasted long enough to even be counted as relationships because of leda having difficulty focusing on maintaining the relationship. it goes without saying that she got herself into a good few sticky situations when she had trouble even concentrating on just one boy at a time.
a considerable fracture in this happy period started to form one july evening while leda was out for pizza with friends. they were at a cute little homestyle restaurant that they enjoyed loitering around in because of an epic pinball game shoved into a remote corner of the main room, near the restrooms. leda had stepped outside for a moment to retrieve her chapstick, which a friend had thrown out the door when leda had, jokingly, made fun of her headband. however, she never exactly got around to doing any actual retreiving of anything because the first thing she saw when she stepped into the dusky philadelphian avenue was her mother wrapped in tight embrace with a stranger outside an antique shop across the street. not knowing what else to do, she simply ran home, unable to feel anything but absolute shock. she knew her parents had been fighting a lot and that it had been getting worse and worse lately, but she had never dreamed that her mother would actually have an affair.
her father immediately suspected something was up, because, well, when leda knew something, it usually wasn't that hard to tell. the whole thing broke her heart a little. she wasn't able to even look at her mother and her powers of concentration, already inhibited at best, went completely kaput. she kept it from her father at first simply because she had no idea how to tell him, but eventually she just couldn't take it and just blurted everything out to him. this of course caused a big confrontation with her parents and, after an entire week of fighting, they decided to divorce. leda had known it was coming, but it still hurt. she felt like a part of herself was being cut in two right along with her parents' marriage. however, she still managed to deal with it quite well. after the divorce was finalizied, her father moved into the infamous rose mansion where his parents and the majority of his siblings and their families were living and leda stayed with her mother. however, when hugo realized he needed a big change and decided he wanted to head out to california to be near his favorite brother, philip, whom he hadn't had a lot of contact with since they were really young, leda decided she wanted to go with him. and so here she is, fresh from pennesylvania, ready for a start in valkyrie.
