BEST MEMORY: “the day that doc mccarthy told me i would never have to live in a foster home again.”
WORST MEMORY: “my run in with the ‘father’ of the last foster home i was ever in.”
OVERALL PERSONALITY: graham is probably one of the most socially inept people you'll ever meet, and for obvious reasons. his past was not an easy one to go through and from that graham has learned a lot about how not to trust him. he's got plenty of proof that people shouldn't be trusted from his life in general being blamed on his mother's irresponsibility to many of his old scars being to blame from abusive foster parents. graham has had handfuls of bad experiences that tell him nothing but not to trust people. even the people who were supposed to uphold the law, policemen, caseworkers and the like, were never to be trusted. he simply knew these people to be liars. they would say they were there for you and do nothing more than turn their backs on you when you needed them most.
aside from a complete lack of trust, graham is also lacking what most would call a shining personality. when you compare him to his new sister, graham looks pathetic, boring, and a little seedy, but in all truth the shy, reserved, quiet seventeen year old just has no idea how to talk to other people. he's lived his life around people who either didn't care about him, or around people he couldn't bring himself to trust. needless to say there was not much social growth on that front. as a child he learned to be quiet or be beaten. that traumatic type of lesson has stuck by him throughout his life and it's noticeable to just about anyone who tries to carry on a conversation with him. he really is geared toward the type of people who like to talk no matter what and don't care to find out if someone else is listening or not. like your stereotypical airhead who blabs on and on and on until they're blue in the face. those kind of people.
graham definitely is the quiet type. he likes doing a lot of things by himself. he likes his quiet time even though in all truth he'd love to hang out with people, he simply doesn't know how. he's very built and had he gone to public schools as a foster kid he definitely would have been the sporty, athletic type. he has a newfound love for football, soccer, track, or anything that requires a bit of physical strength. growing up on the streets required being fit. the stronger you were physically, despite the hardships, the better you were to withstand living on the streets. depite living off a scrounging diet, graham still managed to built up a bit of muscle, more so now that he's in a stable home where he doesn't have to wait days between his next meals. needless to say graham has filled out a lot more since he's been adopted.
there's never been such a thing called romance in graham's life. he probably wouldn't even recognize the emotion if he felt it. there's never been love in his life. there has only been a certain level of tolerance, sometimes trust, but he's never fully loved or even cared about someone enough to feel the way most people take for granted feeling.
AND WE'LL BOTH GROW OLD ,[/color]

HISTORY: everything regarding graham mccarthy’s life is pretty much unknown to the world. half of his childhood is even unknown to graham. he was born in some town in the midwest. no one really even knows which hospital it was he was born at. there’s no specific records that fit graham’s profile. at the same time, it’s very hard to even find out which hospital he was born at simply because he didn’t have a name. graham didn't recieve his name until he was placed in his first orphanage as a child. it took a long time to get to that particular orphanage as well. the only thing that is known about graham was that he was born to a crack addict mother. because of her addiction, graham was born with many birth defects that had to be medically rectified before he could even be released into the custody of the orphanage that bestowed a name upon him. all that is known about graham was the fact that his mother left him in the hospital before his first surgery. she just walked out before anyone could get her name. after a barrage of paperwork, the doctors at that particular hospital were allowed to still treat him even with no parent to bill.
after having all of his medical problems fixed, graham was released to the buckley home for boys where he was given his name. this was about five months after he was initially born. before that he'd simply been known as the abandoned boy. graham stayed at that orphanage until it was closed due to a lack of funding only three years after he'd been there. with no other homes in the area to place him at, graham was placed in his first foster home. this wasn't the greatest of places. he lived in a small three bedroom apartment with a woman, her husband, her child, and three other foster children that they raised. but it was a roof over his head and graham was too young to know the difference between a good home and a bad. they weren't the greatest of care givers. forms of punishment meant being locked in a closet until you cried yourself to sleep or going without food for a long amount of time. graham learned to do everything right and well the first time because of how much he feared the punishments. they also didn't feed him the best foods. the foster children had a tenancy to get the leftovers and dregs of what the family didn't eat. often leaving them to scrounge for food. it really was an unhealthy environment, but it was the only one he knew. graham lived with this family for approximately four years until a government worker showed up on a random day to check the household. the day had gone worse than usual with two of the foster children locked in the closet. when the case worker came to check on the house she found the children and immediately took all four children from the household, the biological child included.
now seven years old, graham had become a ward of the state. he was placed into another, equally damaging foster home. around this time graham began thinking for himself. he got a little more freedom with this family and was allowed to run around town as long as he was back before the doors were locked at 9 p.m. of course this only meant that graham was running around the streets of dowtown chicago by himself. here he learned a lot of hard lessons. even though he was just a child, graham saw death and cruelty on a daily basis. it was usually a miracle when he didn't come home with some sort of bruise. he lived in that foster home for three years before he'd gotten sick of it all and run away for the first time. no one had called to report him missing. the family was happy to be getting a support check without having to spend it on him so they let the government believe he was still living there until the day another case worker came to check up on the foster kids. by that time graham had already hitch hiked out of the state and had been picked up by the police in denver for vagrancy. ten years old is a little young to find yourself in juvenile detention, but that was where graham ended up for a couple of months.
once another foster home had been found for him, graham was carted off to medford, oregon where he was captive to two very outrageous individuals. they terrified him so much with their religious talks and their purifying rituals that graham ran the first chance he got. he ended up in two other foster homes before landing in sacremento. there he was in a home for only a few months before he got tired of the perversion of his foster father. the man enjoyed watching the boys play, bathe, or whatever he pleased and the night that he went after graham he fought and took off, this time jacking a car and speeding for the border.once he crossed into california, graham ditched the car and stopped in sacremento. he found a homeless shelter there where he got clothes and food. once he felt safe enough, graham started off on foot, heading south. he didn't know why he headed in that direction, he just did what his instincts told him to do. traveling hardened the boy. he stopped trusting people and just settled for living penny to penny or shelter to shelter. either way he wound up in valkyrie at the approximate age of fifteen. he was found by the VPD sleeping in a park and was taken into custody. for safe keeping he was placed in the juvenile detention center until other arrangements could be made. by some stroke of luck, or lack thereof depending on how you look at it, graham became incredibly ill and had to be rushed to the hospital.
it was at valkyrie hospital that graham came under the care of raquelle mccarthy. she was such a nice and caring woman and she'd been particularly fond of graham, as well as particular about his care. she would spend her breaks in his room, sharing a half a sandwich with graham and listening as he told her stories of his life. eventually they became so close that by the end of the week when raquelle knew graham would be taken back into custody, she got a series of adoption papers in the works. with a little push from her family and their connections, raquelle had been able to adopt graham before the police could drag him away. it was the fondest memory graham had yet to have. the day he'd been packing clothes that raquelle had bought for him into a new duffel, getting ready to head out with the police. then doctor mccarthy had walked through the door and told him he wasn't going anywhere, that graham was going to her home to stay with her for as long as he liked. since then graham has been happy. he's lived with a roof over his head and with a caring, understanding group of people who were quick to adjust to his homecoming. he's just recently turned seventeen and is in high school for the very first time in his life. though he's struggling, graham is happy to finally be feeling the way normal teenagers do.
