It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

PERSONAL STYLE: Honestly? Amyra is most comfortable when she is just in a t-shirt and boxer shorts or brief type girl panties. She loves her body as she loves all bodies and feels most comfortable letting it free but she knows society has rules and protocols as much as she disapproves she knows she must dress more conservatively. She likes shorts, short shorts which she wears her bikini underneath, got to be read for anything right? and then a lot of the times she wears a tank and then a long sleeved baggy checkered shirt open over it. I she wears jeans, they're usually low rise. If they're shirts they don't have high necklines because those make her feel trapped. She likes warm weather because she is not a fan of jackets or coats. She does like sweaters but only with shorts again. She hates feeling bundled. As for the colors? It varies. She loves an aray of patterns and colors because she has many different moods. Mainly, Amyra likes having clothes she can run in, get dirty, and be very flexible with while maintaining a sense of sex appeal.

SECRETS: (anything people don't know about your character)
BEST MEMORY: She has two. Number one is simple, it was the day she ran away from home. Now, that might seem strange, because no matter how bad it was at home it's a hard and scary thing to be on your own but she considers it the best because it is the memory, the event in her personal history which brought her to her current family.
And two was the day she met Terrence. They called him Terri. He was her first serious boyfriend. He was clever and mischievous. He had this certain smile he would place on his lips and you would know, he's planning something. He was devious but never cruel. He was funny and full of life. He was skilled at throwing knives and darts and he was so sensual. He was blind too but that made him more sensual actually. The way he touched her face that day to help him construct a mental image, so soft and yet it sent shivers all down her back. He may not be what society called your basic sexy man, he looked a bit like cory matthews on Boy Meets World but she found him incredibly hot. The sense of touch means so much more to a blind man and it showed in the way he touched her in every sense. She fell in love with him. He was her first and so far, only love.
WORST MEMORY: She has two. Number one is the day her birth father set her up with an older boy. The boy was physically attractive in every sense but he was a pig. Her father had set up a get together with him where she was supposed to behave. She didn't. And the older boy raped her. She went to her father who said it had been his right to. She was thirteen years old. And that was the night she decided to leave. Her birth father had always been abusive but she hadn't thought him capable of that.
And the second involves Terri. Terri had a job playing drums in a blues club during the off season of the show. It wasn't in the greatest part of the city on one night, on his walk home, coming back to her, some group of drunken guys, a football team(american soccer), thought they could be stupid and tough, "teach the blind freak a lesson" and they stabbed him, right into a major artery. He didn't last long and was dead before Amyra even knew he had been hurt.
OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Where to even start with this girl? Talk about your modern day nomad! She might not be a gypsy but believe me, she is as free a girl as you can find. I think that is the number one most important thing about her, is her sense of freedom. In a way the rest of her can all be explained by it. To Amyra, being free is the most important skill to have, and yes it is a skill. She is not talking about free from government, no. Those laws exist for a reason and she respects... most of them, lol. But when she talks about freedom, its about being free from fear mostly, being free from fear of living your own life. Letting loose and making sure you never regret. You know the phrase "I do not regret the things I've done, but those I haven't"? Yeah, that's definitely her philosophy. She doesn't want to go through life with the question, what if? and so far she hasn't. When she had the chance, she ran away. She has lived her life and met the best people in her life. Freedom is about letting yourself be happy. Free spiritually, free from hate. Free to accept all different types of your fellow man or woman. Freedom, to Amyra, is about allowing yourself to take joy in the simply beauty of everything around you in the natural world as well as appreciating each human form for its natural complexities.
That is another very important part of Amyra. Her idea of beauty. She see's beautiful people all the time. And she very honestly believes that the disabled or deformed, the "freaks" of this world are just as beautiful, if not more so than the models and movies stars. For her beautiful means one thing, unique. And since everyone is unique, unless they are horrible and ugly in spirt, they are beautiful to her. And if you're a person who will look at her family and only see the armlessness or the cleft hands than she doesn't want you near her. She hasn't ever really had a solid home since her birth family and that was more hell than home so these people became her home. Where ever they were, she was because without them she felt like she was lost. She knows a lot of people look at her and think she's contradicting because what would she know about anything when she's naturally what the world considers attractive but the thing is, is that her family thinks she's beautiful but because of who she is and what she's accomplished. If anything, in her world, her natural good looks worked against her, you would think they would trust her less but no, there she was, accepted by them immediately. They're just like everyone else, show them respect they tend to return the favor, treat them like dirt, they'll do the same, they're only human after all. In the side show there are three main types of "freak" Born freaks, who are the tom thumbs, anyone born physically different, the human caterpillars etc., Made Freaks, who are like the tattooed lady, or people who fake the oddity and the third kind is called the Working Acts. These are the people who wouldn't be classified as a 'freak' if it weren't for their performance, the glass eaters, the human pin cushions, the human canonball, the ventriloquist, the sword swallowers, the contortionists and the fire breathers. And that's what Amyra is. She's a working act. And she loves it. Its an art form to her.
That is some what of a contradiction in Amyra. She is a hard worker, but only when its something she loves. She is under educated, never finished high school and such because the truth of it was, she got bored. Why waste your life in a classroom with head in a book when there was this great wide world just waiting for you? She worked her ass off to master the skillful art of fire breathing and she was humble enough to know she had more to learn but she worked for it. She had slowly trained her body to bend and flex in incredible ways. She was slowly learning but far from mastered sword swallowing. She knew how to juggle and ride a unicycle and all that good stuff but hand her a trig problem and she would be lost in a whole sea of numerical troubles. She is not dumb by any means, she just doesn't care about Math. Not to quote the bad guy in Angels and Demons here but who is the bigger fool? The man who can define lightning, or the man who does not respect it's natural awesome power? Which is a very good line for her since all she knows about lightning is that it's electricity. The only class she ever paid attention in was history and honestly, she kept learning history on her own time with the hundreds of thousands of books on the subject you could get ahold of without school participation. If anything, Amyra would do amazing in say... a philosophy class? She may not realize it but she sounds a lot like a philosophy major when she talks about life but that's because of the very fresh perspective she puts on it. She also, due to travel and sheer interest is fluent in many languages. She learned three languages growing up as a child. Greek and English from her father and Albanian from her mother. And later, after she joined the troupe, she learned sign language and can speak mild, small amounts of spanish.
Like everyone else though she does have some fears. One is the fear of her birth father coming for her. She knows, logically its not likely but in her heart it is this constant ominous fear fighting within her. She can't go back to him, she couldn't confront hims. She just couldn't. She has a small every time she introduces someone to her family, and no she never "warned" them about their "conditions" because there was nothing to warn them about. Her family were just people like the rest of them and if they go in and look disgusted Amyra knows its not right for them to be friends anymore. It's just wrong. And Amyra may have a lot of wonderful qualities, including her goofyness that makes you smile but she has a dark side. I mean a fiery temper and if you threaten her family or hurt them you will see it coming at you full blast and it's interesting because she doesn't get that way over anyone else. Her family can protect themselves and she can protect herself but you best believe if some one was bothering her, her family would come and protect her with tempers too, its a whole, take care of your own attitude.

LIVING SITUATION: Shaks, small house with her family
HISTORY:
Jeremy was the brother to the parents of Daphne, Petros and Sophie Hayes. He had never been the favored child in the large Greek family. Ever. From when he was a young kid he was always the odd one and not the odd one as in the kid who could speak Klingon and worships William Shatner, we're talking about the kid that got into fights and was always angry and used magnifying glasses to burn ants, etc. He never tortured cats or anything so his parents didn't think he was sociopathic just different with an attitude problem. As a young young kid he was a bit better but the older he got the further from his family he became. The one thing that rang true though was that he grew into a very good looking man. He paid for college through modeling which is how he met his future wife. When he met Bessa, she was sort of the slut of the town. He actually liked that about her. She was beautiful and a model too, she had been for a long time and drugs and sex had been a part of her life for awhile. Match made in twisted fuckville heaven, huh? He liked her because she was very submissive and within three months of dating, they got married. After a graduating Law school, he was immediately given a Job in an Athen's based Law firm which was nice in a way because family was there, not that he cared.
Jay (Jeremy) would still go to some family functions, he was tolerated for the most part but still he didn't get along too well with them. He just hadn't fit in. Bessa used family functions as more reasons to drink but she would usually just sleep it off as the rest of the family talked and whatever. Then the same year Jay's sister got pregnant, Bessa ended up with a bun in the oven as well. Now, one thing Jeremy had always wanted was a son, He wanted to teach a kid how to be a man and strong. He did the right thing and very closely watched Bessa making sure she didn't take one drink and no caffeine which seemed to surprise his siblings, pleasantly surprise them, but surprise them. Maybe there was hope for the weird runt of the family. When Bessa gave birth to a pretty red haired little girl, Jeremy hardly cared it hadn't been a boy. Girls were useful too. She was his pride and joy as an infant, again gaining more hope in his family but he was still very distant from them. He seemed to prefer it that way. The new born girl was named Amyra Daniella Hayes. Right away she was given the best of everything, spoiled and praised for her gorgeousness. Bessa wasn't doing to well though. After the birth, she immediately went back to narcotics and drink, her career was suffering, they hated the baby weight, everything. And on Amyra's third birthday, she took off. Good riddins, right? Well not for Jeremy. No one left him.
Amyra would periodically stay with some of her Aunts and Uncles as Jeremy searched. He wouldn't leave her for more than a few days at a time but one trip, when he came home he told them he was done searching, Bessa was coming home and she was getting clean. And she did. She cleaned up. So she came home covered in bruises that were blamed on strangers she had fucked on her time off, didn't matter. She was sobering up. As the young Amyra grew older, she was given piano lessens and gymnastics and horseback riding and special tutoring because she was going to be the dream girl. She was going to do everything society and Jay deemed appropriate. Truth of it was, Amyra hated most of the things. Not because of them but because of all the stress Jeremy put into it. And when she was six years old, things took a turn for the worse. Little Amyra went to her mother and told her she didn't want to go to lessens. Her now sober mother understood and agreed. Jeremy hated that. He hated them for not understanding the way things were supposed to be. They had to be normal, they had to be. He was always the weird kid, he was always alienated they had to be normal. He screamed at them when he found out. Over and over that they had to understand, they had to. They were his. They were his family. They had to know what it meant. But they got away with it. The verbal abuse was getting worse though. Hardly an hour went by without him calling his wife a addicted whore, or calling Amyra an ungrateful brat which again as she aged became brat. Her mother tried to stand up to him but never left him. And when Amyra turned seven, after a night of heavy drinking when her father got home and saw a mess in the kitchen from Amyra trying (and failing) to make him cupcakes, he back handed her once. Bessa saw and immediately ran to her child's side, refusing to back away as he yelled at her. He saw her defiance and grabbed her by the arm roughly pulling her into the other room.
The next day, they were telling the family about the terrible fall Bessa took down the stairs to explain the broken arm and the bully who targeted little Amyra, hitting her in the face. Jeremy's drinking kept getting worse, causing him to lose his cushy job. Amyra found herself going to her cousin's house more and more. She liked all her cousins but she was closest to the boy who lived near by, Petros. He was the baby born the same year as her. She would hide bruises and cigarette burns on her body from them, sometimes lie about a bully if it was on her face and while some of the family bought it, some were getting suspicious. Bessa's spirit was just broken. She did nothing. She just kept her mouth shut after her arm had been snapped. She was quiet. Not using but quiet. Becoming increasingly depressed, she spent more and more time alone in her bedroom, lying in her bed with the curtains drawn. Amyra would curl up at her feet, like a dog, and just try to pretend they were somewhere else. I mean, it was clear that the family was struggling and that Jeremy was doing something but there was no proof and none of it was so extreme for him to slip up and there of course are many kids going through worse, but it was getting bad. Amyra just preferred to spend as little time at home as possible which was harder and harder to do. She became very close with Petros though. He was always nice to her and never pushed her to explain anything.
When she was 11, her father wanted her to start doing what he had done and her mother had once done, long ago, Modeling. It was hard to deny she was growing into a socially deemed beautiful girl. And hey, he could earn some money. She went along with it for about five seconds before saying she didn't want to and he couldn't make her, she was not going to be weak. She decided even then. Furious with her, he gave her a decent thrashing, telling her she would do what he told her. But hard to get a modeling job with a black eye now isn't it? When she was twelve years old, Jeremy met a young man of about 17, very handsome, very wealthy, very cruel. Jeremy was impressed by him and asked him what the boy thought of Amyra. The boy told him she was a beautiful young girl. Jeremy then went to Amyra and told her he had found her a boy she was to make happy. And that if she went and hung out with, just hung out with him. it could help the family. You see, since Jeremy lost his job and Bess was too depressed to work, they had been surviving minimally the past few years, and that night a transfer of 10,000 dollars went into his account. But when Amyra went to what she thought was going to be just a movie, she was attacked by this older boy. Raped.
Her father had sent her to this boy. Her father had sent her to lose her virginity, he had sold her. Amyra told him what happened and when he told her she had helped the family, Amyra was just too scared to stay. The preteen girl took off that night. She stole about fifty dollars from her father's wallet as he slept and ran. She ran and ran. The next morning it seemed as though she disappeared, he searched and searched but she was no where. Assuming her dead on the streets a few weeks later, he told the family that she had been killed in a car accident. The family believed it to a fault but somehow had a feeling it was more. They haven't spoken since. But the beginning of her family believing her to be dead was really the start of young Amyra's life. The 12 soon to be 13 wasn't going to last long on the streets. She was hungry and trying to stretch that fifty dollars as could. Or maybe she should say thirty since the other twenty went to a train ride that took her straight to France. In Paris, she was lost. She had no where to go. The night she got there was a cold one, and she had taken to sleeping on park benches. Shivering in just a fall coat, she hadn't thought to bring a better one because, she was 12! She slept on a park bench near a traveling fair. When she awoke she was in a warm tent, covered by a blanket and she was opening her eyes to the strangest and most welcoming sight she had ever seen. You see, her father was never consistent, except for appearance. Everyone he accepted was societies definition of attractive. Her family tended to have "good" genes in the looks department but the people who were all gathered around, looking at the frigid, poor little girl were anything but what society would deem "attractive" which is stupid to define anyways since its subjective but whatever.
The first person she saw was sitting on a stool next to her, and when he saw her awaken he tapped his foot on the shoulder of the person behind her, when she realized he did so because coming out of the arms of his vest was... nothing. He had no arms. He tapped the shoulder of what looked like from behind, a child but when the woman turned around Amyra could see the older face as they both called out for everyone telling them, the woman was holding an infant with hands that looked like claws. The next person she saw was thin, not just model thin, but more so. He looked like a skeleton which she soon learned people called him a living skeleton(Example). Another face she saw was distorted in a way that caused his head to extend into a large cone shape. Another man who only had half a face, like there was just skin where his right eye socket should have been. A couple young children ran up, one was so small Amyra had thought him to be 3 but again, upon seeing his face and hearing speak, he was more like 8. They were all mumbling to each other while looking at her. Amyra tried to speak but instead listened as the armless man smiled at her and nodded, "We're glad you're okay, things looked bad for a bit there." He had said plainly. They all gave her warm friendly looks as the dwarf woman nodded, rocking the infant in her arms which looked huge even though the baby was normal sized, added saying they should go get Dominique and Francis. The skeleton man put out his stick thin arm and said he would as he walked out, Amyra noticed he walked crooked too. She looked up at the armless man as asked what had happened. Apparently she had been found by the smaller than normal 8 year old as he cleaned up some of the fair grounds. The cold had knocked her out. She had been asleep for almost an entire day.
A few moments later a man... no, a woman with a long dark brown beard walked in with a man who came to right below her knees due to the lack of legs, walking on his hands, entered the tent. The man using his arms to walk as if it were nothing climbed up onto the cot Amyra was now sitting up in and told her it was okay, she could lie down. He took her temperature and told the others she was still colder than normal but she should be fine. He gave her a smile, said he was glad she was okay, called her Kiddo before leaving, the bearded woman leaving with him. The Armless Man smiled again and told her his name was Thompson and that Sally there, he said, nodding over to the dwarf woman was his wife. The boy who had found her was Sally's son whom he had adopted, Miles and the infant's name was Marcus whom they both adopted after finding him abandoned in a dumpster. The man with the cone head, when he spoke you could tell he was a bit on the mentally challenged side, gave her a big grin and introduced himself as Spark. Because of the sparkle in his eye, chimed in Sally. The skeleton man who had returned with Dominique and Francis called himself Slim, kind of ironic but that was the point I guess. Self advertising. Thompson explained they were part of a traveling fair. From the sounds of their voices, most of them were American, Italian or French.
For the next few day's, Amyra was allowed to stay with them if she wanted, they got the permission from their manager. She got to know tons of the people around. There was Daniella, who was as normal as you could get apart from the hundreds of piercings covering her body from which she could lift objects from. There was Sydney, a 7ft tall Italian man who was married to Jean ((Cultural throw out ftw)) who was a woman who was born without legs. But soon she realized there were kids her age too. There was Sam and Sacks who where twins connected to each other by their shoulders. Tara who was called a camel girl, which meant her knees bent backwards, not just simple double jointedness, Amyra was double jointed, but they bent completely back and not forward at all. She felt more comfortable walking on all fours (Example). Tara was awesome. She was a lot like Amyra personality-wise actually. She and Amyra became instant friends, but Amyra became the most close with Thompson and Sally. Sally was strict and stern but warm at the same time and never hesitated on giving you a good home cooked meal and was just so... fierce while her husband Thompson was witty and joyous, never to be seen without a smile. And he was amazing. He did everything with his feet, brushed his teeth, played go fish with Amyra and his stepson, Miles. As the carnival packed up, Amyra didn't want to leave. So, the director, a what would be considered normal man who began as a clown before taking over, told her she could as long as she worked. Amyra agreed.
For the next year she worked closely learning from many of the working acts. She had already had some gymnastics, which actually came in handy as she learned how to stretch and bend her body, flex it in ways that seemed surreal. But what really fascinated her were the fire breathers! They were awesome and she was trained there too. Basically, Amyra was given a crash course in carnie life. After about a year, Thompson and Sally sat her down, and asked her if she would like to be part of their family. They've basically been family since Miles found her close to death in the park but this would be a bit more official. They couldn't legally adopt her but they would treat her as their daughter. Amyra told them it was perfect. Not once in their time together did they force her to talk about why she was here. Nor did she ask them. The truth of the matter was that those who needed the sideshow world, found it, or it found them. No questions asked. And these people were more like parents to her than her birth parents had been. She had now gone through a fair amount of Europe when she was informed that Thompson and their family were going to work for a fair in the United States which is where Thompson and Sally were from. Thom was from Virginia and Sally from Wisconsin. Although it broke her heart to say goodbye to many of the people she had become such good friends with, mostly Tara, she was happy to go with them. Francis came along too. He was from Virginia, long time friend of Thompson. He actually was a doctor, just not practicing. He went through the schooling and achieved his degree, but without legs and having to walk with his hands, no one would hire him.
Once in the U.S.A. they were off to work with Ward Hall. Anyone who knows anything about the sideshow world, knows the name of Ward Hall. Famous man for being one of the last true to form sideshow owners in the world. He was a nice old man, very old, having as a kid gone to the shows of Barnum and Bailey. At fifteen, Amyra was developing into what the men in the audience would pay to see perform in less clothing as she performed her fire breathing and contorting and thats what she did for the next few years. She was happy for the most part. Long hours, not great pay. The modern world has little room for sideshows, thinking them exploitive and unmoral. But be real, the world didn't have a helluva lot of options for people with non-normaltive bodies. Actually a great quote from an episode of X-Files based on sideshows, a character had a conjoined twin, a non-developed one. It formed a large massive... tumor essentially on his torso. He worked in a cheap motel. He was telling Scully that the show was his best job ever, but he quit because he was told it was undignified to put yourself on display, and now he carries people's luggage for a living. Anyways, she was still happy but she still thought about her family. She didn't regret running away for a second though. This was her family now.
And then a new boy arrived at the show. it was the day she met Terrence. She loved him. He was a part of the show as a dart thrower with impeccable aim despite not being able to see. But after only a year together, society took another swing at them. Loosing him killed her, and solidified her anxiety towards the "normals" despite, her appearance making her one in a way. She had lost what she considers her virginity to Terri and it was amazing and... it hurts. She wasn't able to talk to anyone for weeks.
During all this time, Amyra and her brothers, Marcuz and Miles had been home schooled. She was able to get her highschool diploma and it inspired Thompson to back to college. He had enough saved up, plus loans. Sally supported him in anything. Even leaving the show. Amyra was offered to stay but they were her family so she followed them to California to a city called Valkyrie. Sally got work as a secretary, Thompson got a job at the local Rein Fair. But I don't think they realized just what kind of judgmental and shallow world they are now joining, luckily they all have pretty thick skin. Good luck.
