WHEN YOU'RE AT THE END OF THE ROAD & YOU LOST ALL SENSE OF CONTROL ,& your thoughts have taken their toll , --------------------------------------------------------------------- THE PLANE RIDE TO CHICAGO WAS ALWAYS THE WORST TO HER. BREATHING THE AIR THAT HAD BEEN RECYCLED FOR YEARS AND BEING SUSPENDED IN THE AIR MILES ABOVE WHERE PEOPLE SHOULD BE. SINCE CHICAGO ALSO HAPPENED TO BE HALFWAY ACROSS THE COUNTRY FROM HER CURRENT HOME, THE PLANE RIDE TOOK A GOOD SIX HOURS DEPENDING ON LAYOVERS AND OTHER INANE SHIT THAT SERVED ONLY TO AGGRAVATE HER. SHE WASN'T EVEN ENTIRELY SURE WHY SHE HAD CHOSEN TO VISIT THE WINDY CITY ANYWAY. THE WIND CERTAINLY COULDN'T DO MUCH FOR HER HAIR, AND THE ONLY FAMILY SHE STILL HAD HERE WERE HER MOTHER'S RELATIVES: PEOPLE SHE DIDN'T PARTICULARLY CARE TO INTERACT WITH. SINCE DEPARTING FROM HER PLANE AT A SPEED THAT WOULD MAKE LANCE ARMSTRONG JEALOUS, LONDON HAD BEEN LAYING, FUMING, IN HER HOTEL ROOM. IT SEEMED TO BE HER CURSE TO HAVE HER PARENTS' LOVE OF TRAVELLING - WELL, LOVE BEFORE HER MOTHER TURNED INTO A SELFISH BITCH AND HER FATHER HAD GROWN NOT TO CARE ABOUT ANYTHING AT ALL. EVEN SO, THE LOVE OF TRAVELLING WAS IN HER BLOOD, AND SOMETIMES SHE JUST WANTED TO BE AWAY FROM HER LIFE IN CALIFORNIA. NOT THAT CALIFORNIA WASN'T BEAUTIFUL, BECAUSE IT WAS - AND ALL OF THE MAGAZINES AND TV SHOWS SEEMED TO AGREE WITH THIS - BUT LONDON EASILY TIRED OF THE ORDINARY. AND CALIFORNIA WAS ORDINARY FOR HER NOW.
HER LIFE WAS FAR FROM BORING, BUT HER MIND TENDED TO ROAM WITHOUT HER. PART OF IT SHE ATTRIBUTED TO HER ARTISTIC GENES - A SIDE OF HER SHE SWORE SHE GOT FROM HER FATHER SIMPLY BECAUSE, ALTHOUGH IT MADE MORE SENSE FOR THE TRAITS TO COME FROM HER MOTHER, LONDON HATED THE WOMAN AND REFUSED TO ACCEPT HER RELATION - BUT PART OF HER WANDERING MIND SHE CREDITED TO HER SIMPLE DESIRE FOR MORE. TOO MANY SHITTY THINGS HAD HAPPENED IN HER LIFE, AND SHE BELIEVED A TURN WAS DUE TO HER. SITTING UP ON THE PLUSH HOTEL BED, SHE SIGHED LOUDLY AND PLOPPED HER CHIN IN HER HANDS AS SHE PULLED HER FEET UP ONTO THE BED. THAT HAD TO BE WHY SHE HAD CHOSEN TO COME TO CHICAGO. SHE HAD LIVED IN THE CITY FOR A YEAR, SO SHE WAS ACCUSTOMED TO MOST OF ITS LANDSCAPE, AND IT WAS A BIT OF SOMETHING FAMILIAR FOR HER IN A LOST TIME. BESIDES, WHO KNEW? MAYBE SHE WOULD GET A FABULOUS NEW IDEA FOR HER EXPANDING CLOTHING LINE.
CLIMBING OFF OF THE BED, SHE HOISTED HER LOUIS VUITTON SUITCASE ONTO THE SECOND, MATCHING BED AND UNZIPPED IT. DIGGING THROUGH HER CLOTHES THAT SHE HADN'T BOTHERED TO UNPACK OR HANG UP SINCE SHE WASN'T ENTIRELY SURE HOW LONG SHE PLANNED ON STAYING, SHE PULLED OUT A LEOPARD PRINT AND BLACK TOP ALONG WITH A PAIR OF LEGGINGS THAT WOULD SHOW OFF HER LONG, SLENDER LEGS. SLIPPING ON THE OUTFIT, SHE RUSHED TO HER JEWELRY BOX AND WITHDREW HER RED EARRINGS AS SHE PUSHED HER FEET INTO AN ADORABLE PAIR OF RED HIGH-HEELED SHOES WITH CUTE LITTLE RED BOWS ON THEM. APPLYING HER RED LIPSTICK IN THE MIRROR, SHE TOSSED THE TUBE ALONG WITH A FEW OTHER IMPORTANT ITEMS LIKE SOME MONEY AND HER ID AND THEN HEADED FOR THE DOOR. IF SHE WASN'T SURE WHAT SHE WAS GOING TO DO NOW, SHE WOULD FIND SOMETHING TO DO, SHE THOUGHT TO HERSELF AS SHE PULLED ON HER RED COAT AND CLOSED THE HOTEL DOOR BEHIND HER. SHE WAS WELL KNOWN ENOUGH THAT SHE COULD EASILY GET INTO NIGHTCLUBS AND RESTAURANTS WITHOUT MUCH TROUBLE. SHE'D JUST HAVE TO MAKE HER OWN FUN.
THE HOTEL WAS RIGHT NEAR THE CENTER OF TOWN, AND SHE HOPED TO GET A TAXI TO SOME PLACE INTERESTING SO SHE DIDN'T HAVE TO STAND IN THE COLD FOR LONG. AS ALWAYS, THE WIND BLEW STEADILY ONCE SHE GOT OUTSIDE, AND SHE PRANCED IN PLACE AS SHE WAVED DOWN A TAXI AND THEN LEAPT INTO THE FIRST ONE THAT STOPPED. SHE ORDERED THE DRIVER TOWARD THE GAGE RESTAURANT AND TAVERN, A LOCAL FAVORITE OF HERS WHERE SHE COULD SIT AND THINK ABOUT WHAT SHE WOULD DO NEXT. SO FAR FROM HOME, SHE DOUBTED ANYONE SHE KNEW FROM HIGH SCHOOL - THE ONE YEAR SHE HAD ATTENDED HERE - WOULD BE AROUND ESPECIALLY SO LONG AFTER GRADUATING, AND THIS THOUGHT THRILLED HER. SHE LIKED BEING THE ONLY ONE WHO KNEW HER PAST. SHE COULD BE ANYONE SHE WANTED, AND USUALLY THAT MEANT SHE WAS NOTHING LIKE HERSELF. NOT HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT APPEARANCES OR PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT HER BEHAVIOR PLEASED HER GREATLY. SHE WAS ONE TO CONSTANTLY CRITICIZE HERSELF FOR HER LOOKS OR HER WORDS OR WHATEVER ELSE ABOUT HERSELF SHE THOUGHT WAS LESS THAN PERFECT, BUT STRANGERS COULDN'T AFFECT HER LIKE THE PEOPLE SHE KNEW.
STEPPING FROM THE CAB, SHE TOSSED A RANDOM BILL AT THE DRIVER AND TOLD HIM TO KEEP THE CHANGE BEFORE TURNING AND ENTERING THE TAVERN. THE ATMOSPHERE INSIDE WAS WARM AND WELCOMING, AND THE SCENTS OF VARIOUS ALCOHOLS ASSAILED HER SENSES AS SHE WALKED TOWARD THE BAR. SLIDING ONTO A STOOL, SHE SMILED FLIRTACIOUSLY AT THE BARTENDER AND ORDERED A BLOODY MARY AND SOME FRENCH FRIES. WHO WAS TO SAY A GIRL COULDN'T HAVE AN EMPTY STOMACH AFTER A LONG PLANE RIDE AND NO LUNCH? WHILE SHE AWAITED HER DRINK AND SNACK, SHE GLANCED AROUND THE RESTAURANT AS IF EXPECTING TO SEE SOMEONE SHE RECOGNIZED ALTHOUGH SHE KNEW THE POSSIBILITY WAS SLIM TO IMPOSSIBLE. NO ONE SHE KNEW COULD HAVE BUSINESS IN CHICAGO. SHE WAS SAFE FROM THE PRYING EYES.

LUCA. ANGELO. GIOVANNI.( MAYBE I WAS WRONG )( MAYBE I WAS DREAMLESS & FULL OF SUFFERING ) ----ONE MINUTE HE WAS IN VALKYRIE the next he was in chicago. though he did just freshly got assigned a new partner for the valkyrie district, luca did have other jobs to attend to. one being his long-going investigation in chicago. well, not too long-going. try more for the past six months. this requiring luca to fly up to chicago three or four times a month. basically, it went down like this: some idiot was blabbering some bullshit about the giovannis. this kid lived in chicago. luca knew he was just a middle man, kind of a a hot head. luca wanted to get to whoever was really running his mouth so loud the gios could hear in california. so, luca took on a role as a college boy who befriended the middleman, mikey. with luca, posing as a twenty-something year old interested in some crime, he kept trying to push mikey into setting up a meeting with luca and mikey's boss. so, here luca was in chicago, trying to set up another meeting.
pretending to be someone else was exciting in itself for luca. je wore jeans and a loose, florida gators shirt. this wasn't like his usual style. casual and young was what he was going for here. and almost college grad student. personality-wise? he was a loud, well-liked guy, with a hint of mystery, and a love for the ladies. the norm, you know? so far from the arrogantly cocky borderline sexist luca he knew maggie just loved. pretending to be this intelligent college student made luca think maybe college wasn't a bad idea. ah, who was he kidding? he'd never go to college. they couldn't teach giovanni mafia business 101 in a classroom. besides, luca could basically teach 'ways to use a baseball bat without playing baseball.'
in his motel room, (checked in under a false name,) luca quickly got into his new clothes and secured his gun in his back waistband. you never really know who'd you run into. even if chicago wasn't a city the giovannis laid their mark on. lastly, luca put his navy ball cap over his head, his dirty blonde hair disappearing and sticking out in some spots around his head. it was cold out by the time he got outside. but why wouldn't it be? it was nearing december, and chicago was a midwestern city. this meaning chi-town experienced all four seasons to its entirety. however, he was only on the sidewalk for a dew minutes before he manged to hail a cab and directed the driver to a bar across town. luca was not a drinker i tell you, but when the college kid he was playing did, you bet luca was knocking them back like a pro. he did make sure he wasn't over-drinking because he was here on business. no use getting hammered and forgetting why you were in chicago to begin with. luca was a favorite here at the bar, (the few times he had been in there over the course of his trips here.) he guessed it only took one time for someone to like you enough to call you their friend by the end of the night. mikey liked meeting here. luca didn't mind because the bar owner just loved mikey's boisterous friend, 'lucas' and ofter gave the supposed pals free drinks on the house.
luca and mikey had been there for over an hour. luca pacing himself with the alcohol while posing that he was drinking more than he actually was. he dropped subtle hints to mikey about meeting his boss, what type of criminal activity mikey was involved in, and who were these giovannis? but mikey kind of just shrugged it off and was either not drunk enough to answer him or smart enough to keep his mouth shut. luca was having fun though amidst the part where he was actually working. just like any night he was there, luca had people's attention as being 'that group by the bar.' you know the group. the ones daring each other to take three shots of this and that. telling stories while slamming their fists on the counter and sloshing beer around like they didn't care they were wasting their money away by wasting their drinks. twisting his cap around so it fitted on him backwards, luca turned to mikey and said, "i gotta take a leak. i'll be back."
moving towards the back of the bar, luca got into the bathroom, looked to see if anyone was in there. no one. luca pulled out his cellphone and called his uncle, fausto giovanni. head of the mafia. they spoke to each other in italian. fausto asking him what the deal was and luca telling him he was going to get mikey drunker, because surely the little shit would crack with some more bacardi and jim beam. after the brief check-in back home, luca did his business (because he really did need tog o anyway) and left the bathroom in time for mikey to slap a hand on his shoulder and say, "lucassss... this high ten just walked in. over there- no there at the bar. yeah, her." luca squinted and only saw the back of this mystery woman's head. yeah, mikey was nearly close to shit-faced. just how luca needed him. luca shrugged at the woman though. "whatever. ten bucks says i could take her home in ten minutes, she looks that easy. and i haven't even seen her face." mikey let go of luca's shoulder, "well, fuck me, donkey kong. two hundred bucks says you can't." low 'oohhhss' rippled through the small crowd that they had been hanging with. "two hundred?" whoa, was luca actually considering this? it was so beneath him and honestly, he really didn't care who this chick was. mikey started digging through his pockets, fumbled with his wallet and sure enough smacked some cash onto the counter. "count them, you mother fucker. two ben franklins right here." though two hundred dollars hardly benefited luca, tonight's alter ego 'lucas' the college student would do something for cash. "fine, fuck you and watch how it's done." he reached the woman who mikey stated was a 'high ten' and slid intot he empty barstool beside her. he tried to be nonchalant about it. kind of like 'i'm not just sitting here because for the text ten minutes i'll be hitting on you.' he raised a finger at the bartender who nodded. yeah, normal people did that. ordered a drinks. "my friend just betted two hundred dollars that i couldn't get you to leave with me in ten minutes," he mused out loud and turned his head to look at her. his eyes bugged widely as he looked at the high ten. he knew the high ten. fuck, he dated the high ten. "london?" ______________ STATUS, complete CRED, format and graphics to me LOCATION & TIME, chicago, winter 2007 LYRICS, 'maybe' - everly CLOTHES, here. plus a baseball cap. TAGGED, london! I SAY, loca! sorry this took a couple days.

WHEN YOU'RE AT THE END OF THE ROAD & YOU LOST ALL SENSE OF CONTROL ,& your thoughts have taken their toll , --------------------------------------------------------------------- LONDON KICKED BACK ONE BLOODY MARY BEFORE HER FRIES CAME OUT FROM THE KITCHEN. THE HARSH SMELL OF THE ALCOHOL MADE HER SCRUNCH UP HER NOSE BUT SHE SWALLOWED THE DRINK IN A FEW GULPS AND GASPED. A SLIGHT BUZZ WASHED OVER HER FOREHEAD LIKE A MILD HEADACHE YOU GET AFTER GOING TO BED TOO LATE AND WAKING UP TOO EARLY. BY THE TIME THE FRIES FINALLY REACHED HER SHE KNEW SHE SHOULD REALLY ORDER SOMETHING NONALCOHOLIC LIKE WATER BUT SHE WASN'T REALLY FEELING IT. SHE'D GO A LITTLE WILDER TONIGHT THAN USUAL. BESIDES, NO ONE WAS WATCHING, RIGHT? PLUCKING A FRY FROM THE TOP OF THE PILE, SHE SMILED SWEETLY AT THE BARTENDER AND GAVE HIM A PURPOSEFUL LOOK TOWARD HER EMPTY GLASS WHICH MADE HIM SMILE, NOD, AND TURN TO MAKE HER A NEW DRINK. NODDING APPROVINGLY TO HERSELF SINCE THE BARTENDER HAD ALREADY WALKED AWAY, LONDON SMILED PLEASEDLY TO HERSELF AND DOWNED A FEW MORE FRIES. THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS FOLLOWING THE FIRST BLOODY MARY, AND SHE KNEW THAT AFTER HER SENSES BEGAN TO DULL MORE THE FOOD WOULD FEEL EVEN MORE DELICIOUS. OF COURSE, EVERYTHING WOULD SEEM BETTER AFTER THAT.
FEELING MORE RELAXED AFTER THE FIRST DRINK, SHE SURVEYED THE ENTIRETY OF THE BAR AS SHE AWAITED HER SECOND BEVERAGE. SHE BRIEFLY WONDERED WHY BARS WERE ALWAYS DECORATED WITH MIRRORS BEHIND THE DRINK RACKS BECAUSE WHO REALLY WANTS TO SEE THEMSELVES TRASHED, BUT SHE PUSHED THE THOUGHT AWAY AS SHE ALLOWED HER GAZE TO SCAN THE REST OF THE CUSTOMERS PERCHED ON THE STOOLS ON EACH SIDE OF HER. THREE SEATS AWAY ON HER LEFT WAS AN ASIAN GIRL DRESSED IN LESS CLOTHING THAN LONDON COULD IMAGINE HERSELF IN IN THE PRIVACY OF HER OWN BEDROOM, AND THE WOMAN WAS DRAPING HERSELF OVER A FAT MAN ON THE OTHER SIDE. THEY HAD TO BE DRUNK ALREADY BECAUSE THEY WERE A MIGHTY ODD COUPLE, BUT LONDON SHRUGGED IT OFF AND LOOKED THE OTHER WAY TO SCAN THE OTHER END OF THE BAR. HER RIGHT SIDE WAS MUCH EMPTIER, AND THE ONLY OTHER PATRON SAT AT THE VERY END OF THE ROW OF STOOLS NURSING ONE DRINK AND STARING DEPRESSEDLY INTO ITS DEPTHS. SINCE HER VISION WAS ALREADY GETTING A BIT BLURRY SINCE SHE HAD DOWNED HER FIRST DRINK SO QUICKLY, SHE HAD TO SQUINT TO GET A BETTER LOOK, AND SHE ONLY REALIZED SHE WAS STARING WEIRDLY WHEN THE GUY LOOKED OVER AT HER AND RAISED HIS EYEBROWS QUESTIONINGLY. SMILING LOPSIDEDLY, SHE WAVED AND TURNED AWAY QUICKLY JUST TO JUMP SLIGHTLY WITH SURPRISE AS SOMEONE SLID ONTO THE STOOL RIGHT BESIDE HER.
MY FRIEND JUST BETTED TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS THAT I COULDN'T GET YOU TO LEAVE WITH ME IN TEN MINUTES, SPOKE THE YOUNG MAN, AND LONDON BLINKED WITH DISBELIEF AT THE STATEMENT. SERIOUSLY? WHAT KIND OF PICK-UP LINE WAS THAT? TURNING TO LOOK AT THE YOUNG MAN JUST AS THE BARTENDER ARRIVED WITH HER SECOND DRINK, LONDON'S MOUTH FELL OPEN SLIGHTLY WITH SURPRISE. SHE RECOGNIZED THE FACE, BUT HER MIND WOULDN'T WORK TO REMIND HER WHO IT WAS. HER BRIEF ALCOHOL INTAKE WAS SLOWING HER MENTAL REFLEXES, SO SHE JUST LOOKED BLANKLY AT HIM AS HE TURNED TO LOOK INTO HER FACE AFTER ORDERING A DRINK FROM THE BARTENDER WHO GAVE HIM A DIRTY LOOK HE DIDN'T NOTICE. BRIEFLY LONDON WONDERED IF THE BARTENDER HAD IMAGINED HE HAD A CHANCE WITH HER SIMPLY BECAUSE SHE WAS NICE WHEN SHE ORDERED HER FRIES, BUT SHE SHOOK OFF THE THOUGHT AS THE YOUNG MAN'S EYES WIDENED WITH RECOGNITION. SO SHE WASN'T CRAZY. SHE HAD SEEN HIM BEFORE, AND HE OBVIOUSLY HAD SEEN HER.
SHE INSTANTLY APPRECIATED HER INSTINCTIVE NOTION TO MAKE HERSELF UP WELL BEFORE LEAVING HER HOTEL ROOM. OF COURSE, THAT WAS VAIN, BUT HELL, WHO DIDN'T LIKE LOOKING GOOD FOR SOMEONE THEY KNEW? AFTER ALL OF HER THOUGHTS THAT SHE WOULDN'T SEE SOMEONE SHE KNEW, HERE SHE WAS STARING AT ONE WHO - AFTER ALLOWING HER PARTIALLY DRUNK HAZE TO CLEAR - SHE REALIZED SHE KNEW VERY WELL. AT LEAST AT ONE TIME. SHUTTING HER MOUTH, SHE MANAGED TO COMPOSE HERSELF AND THEN OPENED HER LIPS TO SPEAK. "LUCA?" SHE ASKED SIMULTANEOUSLY TO HIM SPEAKING HER OWN NAME. AT THE JINX, SHE SHYLY LOOKED AWAY FROM HIM AND CHUCKLED SLIGHTLY BEFORE LIFTING HER GAZE TO LOOK AT HIM AGAIN.
LUCA HAD ALWAYS BEEN HANDSOME TO HER SINCE THE MOMENT SHE'D FIRST MET HIM AFTER MOVING TO VALKYRIE. HIS DIRTY BLOND HAIR AND LIGHT EYES WERE A COMBINATION THAT JUST SENT THRILLS THROUGH HER VEINS. SHE REMEMBERED FONDLY THE TIME WHEN THEY HAD DATED THAT SEEMED SO LONG AGO NOW, AND SOMETIMES SHE WONDERED WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO THEM. DEEP DOWN SHE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT HAD HAPPENED. SHE HAD HAPPENED TO THEM. HER CHRONIC INABILITY TO TRUST MEN HAD DRIVEN THEM APART, BUT THAT WAS ALL IN THE PAST NOW. SHE SHOULDN'T DREDGE UP OLD NEWS.
"YEAH, IT'S ME," SHE RESPONDED LAMELY, MANAGING A SMILE BEFORE GLANCING OVER HIS SHOULDER TOWARD THE BACK CORNER OF THE BAR WHERE A GROUP OF GUYS LAUGHED A BIT TOO LOUDLY AND WATCHED THEM A BIT TOO OBVIOUSLY. A WRY SMILE CURVED ONTO HER RED LIPS AS SHE TURNED BACK TO LOOK AT HIM. ABANDONING HER DRINK, SHE SWIVELED HER STOOL AND CROSSED HER LEGS AT THE KNEES, SHOWING UP THE FULL SLIMNESS OF HER LEGS AS SHE TURNED TO FACE HIM. WHY NOT PLAY THE GAME? HE WAS GOING TO GET WHAT, TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS OUT OF IT IF HE 'SUCCEEDED'? SHE'D JUST MAKE HIM SHARE IT. WHAT WAS THE POINT OF BEING OUT OF TOWN IF SHE COULDN'T HAVE A BIT OF FUN AND FORGET WHO SHE WAS BACK AT HOME? LEANING TOWARD HIM, SHE SLID HER HAND ONTO HIS THIGH, BEING CAREFUL TO STAY FAR ENOUGH AWAY SO AS NOT TO MAKE EITHER OF THEM UNCOMFORTABLE AS SHE PUT ON HER SHOW. "TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS, HUH?" SHE ASKED WITH A SMALL SMILE AS SHE BATTED HER EYELASHES OBVIOUSLY ENOUGH FOR THE GUYS IN THE BACK OF THE BAR TO SEE HER. "HOW MUCH OF A CUT OUT OF THAT DO I GET IF I PLAY ALONG FOR OLD TIMES' SAKE?" HER MOUTH CURVED TO THE SIDE WITH A GRIN, AND HER EYES GLINTED WITH MISCHIEVIOUSNESS THAT ONLY SEEMED TO COME OUT OF HER WHEN SHE WAS AROUND HIM.
IT SEEMED LIKE FOREVER TO HER SINCE LUCA AND SHE HAD DATED EVEN THOUGH IT HADN'T BEEN THAT LONG. THEY HAD DATED FOR MAYBE SIX MONTHS, AND SHE'D BEEN A DIFFERENT PERSON THEN. SHE'D BEEN ABLE TO LET HERSELF GO AND NOT TO WORRY ABOUT APPEARANCES LIKE SHE ALWAYS DID. SINCE THEN, THAT WAS ALL SHE THOUGHT ABOUT, JUST LIKE BEFORE HIM. SEEING HIM NOW REMINDED HER OF THOSE TIMES, AND SHE KNEW SHE COULD JUST RELAX AT LEAST FOR A LITTLE WHILE. OF COURSE, SHE KNEW SHE WAS ALREADY A BIT BUZZED AND SO HER INHIBITIONS WERE LOWER THAN USUAL, BUT SHE DIDN'T CARE ABOUT THAT NOW.
"YOU KNOW, EVEN IF I'M WILLING TO HUMOR YOU SO YOU CAN WIN YOUR BET, I'M DEFINITELY NOT GOING TO MAKE IT EASY ON YOU," SHE COMMENTED, SMILING AND TAKING HER HAND OFF OF HIS LEG SO SHE COULD TURN BACK TO FACE THE BAR. LIFTING HER SECOND BLOODY MARY FROM THE BARTOP, SHE SWALLOWED A DEEP GULP OF IT AND LICKED HER LIPS FLIRTACIOUSLY AS SHE GLANCED OVER AT HIM WITH HER EYEBROWS RAISED AS SHE WAITED TO SEE IF HE WAS WILLING TO PLAY HER GAME.

LUCA. ANGELO. GIOVANNI.( MAYBE I WAS WRONG )( MAYBE I WAS DREAMLESS & FULL OF SUFFERING ) ----WHOA, WHOA, WHOA. luca was already going through escape routes in his head. of all the places, let alone, chicago, he managed to run into the only ex that counted in the small book, page, paragraph of luca's love life. not only was this a huge coincidence, but luca was on a job. running into an ex while you were on a job she didn't even know about? however he was going to smooth this over with both unknowing parties, he was going to ask for a medal because if he could pull this off, he deserved one. london said his name at the exact same time he said hers. so, she remembered him. plan a of walking back to his group before she could put two and two together was out of the question. now, he was stuck here. though luca has had his fair share of flings and one-week girlfriends, london was his longest relationship coming in at six months. a combination of things sort of led to their demise. she didn't trust him, and well, he deserved that because for six months, he pulled the 'i'm a freelance photographer' line and it seemed to work. and he, well, was typical luca. he didn't like caring for people outside of his family. so when they started getting closer, it was time to stop the relationship before it could get meaningful, attaching, and love-like. even if, both of them would have worked out their issues, it might have worked.
luca was still in shock when she told him it was her. someone actually catching him off guard where he couldn't respond quickly. was luca giovanni getting soft? the only other person able to do that to him was back in valkyrie. however, he needed to think quick because he was playing two people right now, and that was a dangerous thing to try and manage. being luca to london and lucas to the guys. london turned and faced him. what was she going to do? they hadn't talked since they broke up. and he just made a very un-luca-like pass at her that only made him slightly embarrassed, because he definitely wasn't like that. her hand fell on his thigh and luca inhaled. though he looked back at the group and smirked. might as well make them think he was in. "two hundred dollars, huh?" taking this opportunity to regain this situation, luca put an elbow on the bar's counter and leaned on it as she did her thing. he shrugged casually. "it's not that much. pocket change for you and i. it's more of a pride thing."
he knew london was a fashion designer. luca worked part-time in the fashion industry. you could only guess how they met. but she was successful, he was slightly successful with a wealthy family. they both knew money and a two-hundred dollar bet meant nothing to either of them. "how much of a cut out of that do i get if i play along for old times' sake?" luca chuckled. "you get no cut, lon. you have to work just a little bit harder for any of it." he smirked, looking down at his thig in the process and back at her. hm, maybe it had been too long since he sucked it up and had a beer, because luca giovanni wouldn't be playing into this if he had been stick-sober. he was surprised though she was talking to him like there wasn't anything wrong at all. she said something else and retrieved her hand. she returned to her drink. "you're not?" he asked in response to her not making it easy on him. "'cause i'm thinking a few more of those drinks we won't have to worry." at that he flagged down the bartender and ordered her another bloody mary. it came within a few moments and he shrugged at her as the bartender pushed the new one next to her second. "we'll take it out of the winnings," he told her, subtly letting her know they'd win the bet. luca looked down at his imaginary watch around his wrist. "ok, so, we have five minutes left." he rubbed his hand together and sat up straighter. because he was going to bet that mikey was going to come over when his time was up. attempt to embarrass luca and demand his two hundred dollars. "or else you are going to pay my buddy the two hundred for not coming home with me." he was joking. he'd pay if this failed. but he found it eerily easy to talk to an ex-girlfriend. this, being probably the first time he was ever actually in a position to talk to an ex-girlfriend. it wasn't that hard. or, maybe because deep-down he was just freaking out that his real-life was getting messed up in his mafia-life and that was what he always tried so hard to separate. the only time when that was ok (well, not ok but tolerable) was when he and maggie worked together, because she already knew the nitty-gritty. and even then, he didn't like getting personal with people. it should vulnerability, an emotion luca rarely ever showed. WHEN YOU'RE AT THE END OF THE ROAD & YOU LOST ALL SENSE OF CONTROL ,& your thoughts have taken their toll , --------------------------------------------------------------------- AS LONDON LOOKED OVER AT LUCA SHE HAD TO ADMIT THAT HE WAS STILL HANDSOME. VERY HANDSOME. THERE HAD BEEN A REASON SHE HAD DATED HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE, AFTER ALL. BESIDES, THE SEX HADN'T BEEN BAD. SHE COULDN'T LIE. TURNING BACK TO THE BARTOP, SHE PLANTED HER HANDS FLAT ON THE WOOD AND GAZED INTO HER SECOND BLOODY MARY GLASS, AND REALIZED, TO HER CHAGRIN, THAT IT WAS ALMOST EMPTY. SHE DISTANTLY HEARD LUCA ADMIT THAT THE 'TAKE' WAS JUST POCKET CHANGE FOR THEM, AND SHE SMILED A BIT BROADER THAN SHE WOULD HAVE IF SHE WASN'T A LIGHTWEIGHT WHO HAD ALREADY DRUNK MORE THAN USUAL. SURE, TWO HUNDRED BUCKS WAS LIKE HOW MUCH SHE WOULD SPEND ON A PURSE OR SOMETHING, BUT SHE DIDN'T CARE. SHE WAS TIPSY, ALONE UNTIL LUCA HAD POPPED RANDOMLY BACK INTO HER LIFE, AND NOT CARING AT THE MOMENT. USUALLY, THIS WASN'T HER. SHE WASN'T TYPICALLY PLAYFUL OR GIGGLY, SHE WAS MORE THE TYPE OF WOMAN WHO MADE MEN WORK HARD FOR HER AND THEN ENDED UP FALLING HARD FOR THE GUYS WHO JUST WEREN'T GOOD ENOUGH FOR HER. THE MAN AT HER SIDE WAS PROBABLY ONE OF THE ONLY EXCEPTIONS TO THAT STANDARD, BUT SHE HAD LET HIM GO. WELL, MORE LIKE, WALKED OUT OF HIS LIFE RUDELY.
AS HE TOLD HER SHE WOULDN'T GET A CUT, SHE POUTED AND TURNED TO LOOK AT HIM AGAIN. THANKFULLY, HER VISION WASN'T CLOUDY - YET - SO SHE COULD CLEARLY SEE HIM LOOKING AT HER, AND HER HEART LEAPT WITHOUT HER PERMISSION. DAMN, HE WAS SEXY. OF COURSE, HE WAS DRESSED LIKE SOME COLLEGE STUDENT OR SOMETHING, BUT THAT DIDN'T MATTER. HE COULD BE SEXY IN ANYTHING AS FAR AS SHE WAS CONCERNED. ALTHOUGH SHE WANTED TO, SHE DIDN'T ARGUE WITH HIM ABOUT THE MONEY BECAUSE SHE TRULY DIDN'T CARE, AND SHE LOOKED CURIOUSLY AT HIM AS HE ASKED HER ABOUT THE VALIDITY OF HER STATEMENT ABOUT BEING HARD FOR HIM TO GET. AS HE ORDERED HER ANOTHER DRINK, SHE HELD HER HAND UP TO PROTEST, BUT HER LOYAL COMPANION DOG OF A WAITER HAD ONE READY TO GO BEFORE SHE COULD SPEAK TO TURN IT AWAY. WITH A SHRUG, SHE SMILED AND TOOK A SIP. WHY NOT? SHE WAS ALREADY BUZZED, AND SHE WAS HAVING FUN FOR THE FIRST TIME IN QUITE A WHILE. HELL, SHE MIGHT EVEN CONFESS TO LUCA THAT SHE STILL LOVED HIM... NOT THAT THAT WAS TRUE, BUT SHE WASN'T THINKING STRAIGHT. WAS SHE?
TURNING TO LOOK INTO HIS EYES AGAIN AS HE TOLD HER THEY ONLY HAD FIVE MINUTES LEFT, SHE FINALLY FOUND HER TONGUE TO SPEAK. LEANING CLOSER TO HIM, AND HOPING SOMEWHERE IN THE PART OF HER MIND THAT WAS STILL SOBER THAT HER BREATH DIDN'T STINK, SHE SMILED SLIGHTLY AND REACHED FOR HIS SHIRT WITH HER HAND. GRABBING IT SUCCESSFULLY, SHE TUGGED SLIGHTLY AND GAVE HIM HER BEST PLAYFUL FACE, SOMETHING SHE WAS VERY OUT OF PRACTICE AT DOING. "THEN WE'D BETTER HURRY, HMM?" SHE ASKED, RELEASING HIS SHIRT AND DOWNING THE REST OF HER BLOODY MARY WHICH MADE HER FACE SCRUNCH UP FROM THE HIT. OR ELSE YOU ARE GOING TO PAY MY BUDDY THE TWO HUNDRED FOR NOT COMING HOME WITH ME. RAISING AN EYEBROW, SHE SWUNG HER HEAD AROUND AND GLARED PLAYFULLY AT HIM. "I'M NOT PAYING SHHHIT," SHE SLURRED SLIGHTLY, GIGGLING AND PUTTING HER HAND TO HER MOUTH. SURELY SHE COULDN'T BE AS FAR GONE AS SHE ALREADY WAS. SHE SHOULD BE ACTING LIKE THE LONDON THAT LUCA KNEW, NOT THIS CRAZY TEENAGER TYPE THING SHE WAS NOW. HER CONSCIENCE WANTED TO IMPRESS HIM, BUT HER LONELINESS DIDN'T GIVE A DAMN. BUT SHE FELT SO DESPERATE. FOR THE BRIEFEST OF MOMENTS, HER MIND SOBERED UP AS SHE LOOKED AT HIM, AND HER CHEST SWELLED WITH AN EMOTION SHE COULDN'T SAY SHE'D FELT FOR ANOTHER MALE. SHE HONESTLY MISSED HIM.
THEY HADN'T EVEN TALKED AFTER THEIR BREAK-UP WHICH SHE ATTRIBUTED LARGELY TO HERSELF FOR RUNNING OFF AND IGNORING HIM, AND SHE HAD DUG HER OWN GRAVE ON THAT ONE. NOW, SHE WAS ALONE WITH ONLY HER FASHION LINE AND HER DESIRE TO ROAM THE WORLD, NEITHER OF WHICH FILLED THE VOID SHE'D CREATED THROUGH HER OWN INABILITY TO TRUST MEN. SLIDING OFF OF THE STOOL, SHE ALMOST SLIPPED AND FELL RIGHT INTO HIM BUT CLEVERLY CAUGHT HERSELF BY PLANTING HER HANDS ON HIS SHOULDERS, HER EYES WIDENING WITH MILD SURPRISE. HER MOUTH DROPPED OPEN AND SHE FELT HER HEAD SWIM SLIGHTLY FROM THE ALCOHOL OVERDOSE, AND SHE BRIEFLY CLOSED HER EYES TO REGAIN HER BALANCE. WHEN SHE OPENED HER EYES AGAIN, SHE WAS LOOKING RIGHT AT LUCA, AND HER INHIBITIONS DROPPED. "I JUST WANT TO GET OUT OF HERE," SHE ADMITTED, HER BLUE EYES FULL OF HONESTY UNLIKE ANYTIME BEFORE, "I'D LIKE FOR IT TO BE WITH YOU, BET OR NO BET."
SHE WASN'T THE TYPE TO OPEN UP AND BE HONEST LIKE THIS WITH ANYONE, ESPECIALLY MALES BECAUSE THEY ALWAYS ENDED UP STABBING HER IN THE BACK, BUT THE ALCOHOL HAD LOWERED HER USUAL GUARDS. BESIDES, BEING REMINDED OF HER STILL-RECENT BREAK UP WITH LUCA SOFTENED HER MORE AND MADE HER FEEL LIKE A FOOL FOR EVER DOING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE. FOR ALL SHE KNEW, HE COULD BE MARRIED ALREADY - ALTHOUGH SHE DIDN'T KNOW WHY HE WOULD BE HANGING OUT IN SOME BAR ALONE IF THAT WAS THE CASE - BUT SHE DIDN'T CARE RIGHT NOW. SHE WANTED TO REDEEM HERSELF FOR ALL OF HER PREVIOUS FUCK UPS. HER HANDS SLID OVER HIS SHOULDERS AND SHE GENTLY DUG HER FINGERTIPS INTO HIS SHOULDERBLADES, A HABIT SHE HAD FORMED WHILE DATING HIM THAT SHE DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE SHE WAS REHASHING. IT WAS JUST ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT COMES BACK TO YOU AT THE MOST RANDOM TIMES. WATCHING HIM WITH THE DOE-EYED GAZE, SHE WONDERED IF HE'D JUST TELL HER TO FUCK OFF AND OPT TO LOSE HIS BET VERSUS ACTUALLY LEAVING WITH AN EX WHO HAD WALKED AWAY FROM HIM WITHOUT AN EXPLANATION, OR IF HE WOULD HUMOR HER.

LUCA. ANGELO. GIOVANNI.( MAYBE I WAS WRONG )( MAYBE I WAS DREAMLESS & FULL OF SUFFERING ) ----HE DIDN'T KNOW IF IT WAS A good thing or a bad thing to not know what emotion you felt when there was the break-up. it was true, luca had liked london... a lot. why else would he have dated her (in his standards,) for so long? even his family took note of the relationship. well, of course his family did because one, they were italian and looked out for their own. and two, because luca wasn't a relationship person and they all knew that. the only thing he dated seemed to be his work. he remembered his father and fausto making comments when one month turned into two and so forth how luca should just pop the question already and make this london girl a giovanni. yeah. not only did that freak him out, but he knew the giovanni family motto. marry young. all of his aunts and uncles got married young and started having kids right away. it was scary that almost all of them were still together and hadn't ended in divorce. but that was over twenty years ago. times were different than they were today.
he wasn't trying to intentionally get her drunk, but while she was knocking them back, he was thinking it might be easier to just go with the flow and not worry about running into her while he was on a job, not explain why he looked like a fucking tool, and somehow get money out of this because as it was sitting, mikey wasn't going to take him anywhere useful tonight, thus making this trip another waste of his time. but at least he was amusing her. since, as long as they dated, he only saw her drunk a few times. looking back, it was surprising luca even dated someone as professional and well-known. because let's face it, luca's one night stands are easy girls that he believes are beneath him. yeah, he can be a douche bag with his unlogical thinking, and people could validly argue that he was borderline sexist. so dating london, who was pretty much equal to him was surprising. looking at london now, she kind of reminded him of maggie. well, london was a little less psycho and as far as he could tell wasn't concealing any knives, but they kind of both had that air about them. independent, bitchy, and strong-willed.
in a matter of seconds her hand enclosed around his shirt and she tugged. "then we'd better hurry, hm?" one corner of his mouth curled upwards. "yes, we better." he was wondering if they would be having this exact conversation if both of them were completely sober. there was a part of him that was sober. but that part wasn't able to actually do anything. it was like the completely sober luca was standing up in the bar, watching the two ex-lovers beat through what would be an awkward encounter if they both were in their right mindsets. luca looked back at mikey, who was pointing at an imaginary clock around his wrist. must be getting down to the wire. what was it going to be? lose two hundred dollars, or win two hundred dollars? he felt both her hands now around his shoulderblades, digging into them like she use to. he sighed. how could a touch feel so familiar? "i just want to get out of here. i'd like for it to be with you, bet or no bet." and there it was. his ultimatum of the night with the clock against him. the real luca would just get up and leave. and luca would do that if he knew he had an 'in' with mikey's boss tonight. but seeing as that was less and less likey he was finding london more and more likely. besides, if he was going to walk away from this: a very attractive, very drunk woman, what made him think that he was going to be the only one hitting on her tonight? if he got up and left one of his "friends" might swoop in and take her to their place. and even if they were over, luca felt a little pang in his head. whoa, could that be jealousy? yes. it was. luca would feel some sort of jealous ex-boyfriend emotion if he saw someone else hit on someone he had already dated.
it wasn't even about the money. luca wanted to win. he was competitive by nature and it ran in his blood. "fuck it. let's go." he was probably going to regret this. he got up and walked over to mikey. "give me my money." those damn 'ohhss' were met again as mikey slapped the two hundred bucks into luca's open palm hastily. "i don't know how you do it man..." mikey said shaking his hand. "i'll call you later, we need to go out another time," luca mentioned, letting mikey know, he didn't get what he came for, and he wasn't going to go yet. he turned around and walked back to the bar where london was. he turned his baseball cap around so it was backwards as he slapped one benjamin franklin at the waiter. "keep the change," he said. it should've covered london's drinks and then some. luca was leaving his tab with mikey, the stupid motherfucker. it was all his fault he didn't get what he came for in the first place. he looked down at london, and reached for her hand, they stumbled a little bit, but they were met by the crisp chicago air immediately after leaving the hot, smokey bar. "where are you staying?" he asked her as he raised a hand up, hailing a cab. because, they weren't going to his shitty motel. he liked being on the down low, he knew london wouldn't be. a yellow taxi can rolled to a stop in front of them and luca swung the door open, and got in first because he had horrible manners like that. "where are we going?" the cab driver ordered. luca looked at london and motioned for her to say something, because he already forgot.

WHEN YOU'RE AT THE END OF THE ROAD & YOU LOST ALL SENSE OF CONTROL ,& your thoughts have taken their toll , --------------------------------------------------------------------- LONDON WAS BEGINNING TO SEE THINGS. SURE, SHE KNEW SHE WAS A BIT SAUCED, BUT SHE COULDN'T BE SO DRUNK AS TO ACTUALLY BE SEEING LUCA ACCEPTING HER OFFER. HOWEVER, AS HE STOOD AND WALKED OVER TO HIS FRIENDS' TABLE, ACCEPTED THE TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS AND CAME BACK, SHE REALIZED SHE WASN'T THAT DRUNK. THIS WAS REALLY HAPPENING. HER HEART LEAPT LIKE A SCHOOLGIRL'S HEART, AND SHE WAS GLAD SHE WAS ALREADY A BIT TIPSY SO THAT HE WOULDN'T REALIZE THE RED IN HER CHEEKS WAS BECAUSE SHE WAS FLATTERED HE WASN'T TURNING HER DOWN. SHE COUDLN'T REMEMBER ALWAYS BEING THIS MUCH OF A LIGHTWEIGHT, SO SHE SHRUGGED IT OFF AS BEING LONELY OR SOMETHING. SHE KNEW SHE WASN'T BEING MENTALLY CREATIVE AT THE MOMENT, BUT SHE DIDN'T CARE. LUCA SLAPPED A ONE HUNDRED DOLLAR BILL DOWN ON THE BAR IN FRONT OF HER AND TOLD THE BARTENDER TO KEEP THE CHANGE. THE BARTENDER RAISED HIS EYEBROWS AND GLANCED AT LONDON AS LUCA OFFERED HER HIS HAND, AND LONDON SMILED A SMALL SMILE UP AT THE MAN. SHE WAS CERTAIN HE'D BELIEVED SHE WAS FLIRTING WITH HIM BEFORE LUCA HAD ARRIVED, AND SUDDENLY ALL OF HER ATTENTIONS HAD BEEN OFF OF HIM THE MOMENT HER EX SHOWED UP. WHAT A LET DOWN. LONDON GIGGLED AT THE THOUGHT AND ALLOWED LUCA TO HELP HER FROM THE STOOL. SHE PROMPTLY STUMBLED AND FELL INTO HIM, THANKFUL THAT HIS ARM WAS THERE FOR HER TO CATCH HERSELF ON, AND SHE MEEKLY ALLOWED HIM TO LEAD HER FROM THE BAR AND INTO THE COLD WINTRY AIR OUTSIDE.
WHEN THE COLD BURST HIT HER IN THE FACE, SHE GASPED WITH AN "OHHH" AND CLOSED HER EYES, PAUSING FOR A MOMENT DIRECTLY OUTSIDE OF THE DOORWAY. THANKFULLY, SHE WASN'T NAUSEOUS AND PROBABLY WOULDN'T BE BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH SHE GOT DRUNK FAST, SHE DIDN'T GET HANGOVERS HARDLY EVER. SHE'D ONLY GOTTEN ONE ONCE, AND THAT WAS AFTER HER TWENTY FIRST BIRTHDAY WHEN SHE'D DRUNK ENOUGH ALCOHOL TO DRIVE A SAILOR INTO THE GROUND. THE AIR OUTSIDE WAS FRESHER THAN THE SMOKE-FILLED ATMOSPHERE OF THE BAR, AND SHE TOOK TWO BIG GULPS BEFORE OPENING HER EYES AND LOOKING OVER AT LUCA AGAIN. NOW THAT SOME OF THE HAZE OF BOTH HER DRUNKEN STATE AND THE CIGARETTES HAD CLEARED, SHE REALIZED THAT SHE HADN'T BEEN AN IDIOT FOR TELLING HIM SHE WANTED TO BE WITH HIM. HE WAS EVEN MORE DAMN GORGEOUS OUT OF ALL OF THAT MESS. HE TURNED AND WALKED FOR THE CURB AFTER ASKING HER WHERE HER MOTEL WAS. SHE WAS CERTAIN HE EITHER HADN'T HEARD HER AS SHE CALLED TO HIS BACK BECAUSE OF THE DIN OF THE TRAFFIC OR HE SIMPLY WOULD FORGET BEFORE THE CAB REACHED THEM.
THANKFULLY, THE DIDN'T HAVE TO WAIT LONG FOR A CAB TO ARRIVE, AND LUCA PILED IN WITHOUT WAITING FOR HER. SHE SLID INTO THE SEAT BESIDE HIM, HER ALCOHOL-LEADEN STATE SLOWLY STARTING TO SUBSIDE THE LONGER SHE WAS IN THE COOLNESS OF THE CHICAGO AIR. THE CAB DRIVER CALLED BACK TO THEM, WANTING TO KNOW WHERE THEY WERE HEADED, AND LUCA LOOKED EXPECTANTLY OVER AT HER WHERE SHE LEANED AGAINST THE SEAT WITH HER HAND TO HER FOREHEAD. REALIZING SHE WAS BEING CALLED UPON, SHE OPENED HER MOUTH AND SAT UP SUDDENLY, FORCING HERSELF TO PLANT HER PALM ON THE HEADREST OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT TO KEEP HERSELF FROM JUST GOING ON THROUGH THE WINDOW THAT DIVIDED THEM FROM THE DRIVER. REESTABLISHING HER BALANCE, SHE SMILED APOLOGETICALLY AT THE DRIVER AND ORDERED HIM TO THE RITZ-CARLTON WHERE SHE WAS STAYING. AS USUAL, SHE WAS STAYING IN STYLE EVEN AWAY FROM HOME. SHE LOVED FANCY THINGS AND CREATURE COMFORTS THAT SHE KNEW SHE DIDN'T REALLY NEED. HELL, IF A GIRL COULDN'T HAVE A SWEET HOTEL ROOM OVERLOOKING A LAKE WHEN SHE WAS OUT OF TOWN THEN WHAT WAS THE POINT IN LIVING?
TYPICAL TO TAXI DRIVERS, THE ONE DRIVING THEM DROVE ERRATICALLY, AND LONDON ALMOST RETHOUGHT HER PREVIOUS ASSUMPTION SHE WOULDN'T GET SICK, BUT WAS SAVED WHEN THE MAN BRAKED THEM TO A ROUGH HALT OUT FRONT OF HER HOTEL. OPENING THE DOOR, SHE GASPED IN THE COLD AIR OUTSIDE, THIS TIME TO CATCH HER BEARINGS AFTER THE TUMULTUOUS CAB RIDE AND SHE FUMBLED IN HER PURSE FOR SOME CASH WHILE SHE MOVED OUT OF THE WAY FOR LUCA TO CLIMB OUT OF THE CAB. SHE DIDN'T WANT HIM PAYING FOR EVERYTHING; THAT JUST WASN'T FAIR. THE TAXI DRIVER OFFERED HER HER CHANGE, BUT SHE WAVED A DISMISSIVE HAND AT HIM AND SLAMMED THE DOOR, TURNING TO MARCH INTO THE TOWERING HOTEL. SHE FELT MUCH BETTER NOW THAT SHE COULD CONTROL HER OWN SPEED AND MOMENTUM, AND SHE GLANCED OVER HER SHOULDER AT LUCA, PAUSING TO WATCH HIM AS HE WALKED WITH HER.
SHE KNEW SHE SHOULDN'T BE SO SPONTANEOUS AS SHE WAS BEING RIGHT NOW, AND NOW THAT THE ALCOHOL HAD BEGUN TO WEAR OFF SHE WAS REALIZING SHE MAY HAVE BEEN TOO FORWARD BEFORE, BUT SHE DIDN'T CARE. SHE'D STOPPED CARING A WHILE AGO. THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF THIS TRIP WAS TO GET AWAY FROM NORMAL, WHICH WAS SO TERRIBLY BORING FOR HER ANYWAY, AND TO JUST BE FREE WITH HERSELF. SHE DIDN'T QUITE KNOW WHO SHE REALLY WAS ANYMORE. SHE REALLY HADN'T KNOWN FOR A WHILE. SOMETIMES SHE BELIEVED SHE'D LOST PIECES OF HERSELF OVER THE WHOLE SPAN OF HER LIFE, A PIECE TO HER MOTHER'S HORRID MOTHERING TECHNIQUE, A PIECE TO HER ASSHOLE HOMOSEXUAL OF AN EX-FIANCE, AND PIECES TO OTHER TERRIBLE THINGS IN HER LIFE. LONDON ALWAYS ENDED UP IN THE WRONG PLACES AT THE RIGHT TIME, AND SHE GOT SCREWED OVER IN THE END.
AS THEY RODE UP IN THE ELEVATOR, SHE SLYLY STEPPED CLOSER TO LUCA, LEANING AGAINST HIM SLIGHTLY WITHOUT LOOKING AT HIM. THE WARMTH OF HIS SIDE WAS SOOTHING TO HER, AND SHE SMILED SLIGHTLY TO HERSELF AS SHE WATCHED THE FLOOR NUMBERS COUNTING PEACEFULLY AWAY TO THEMSELVES. SHE DIDN'T CONSIDER LUCA TO BE ONE OF THOSE TIMES IN HER LIFE WHEN SHE'D LOST A PIECE OF HERSELF. HER TIME WITH HIM HAD MADE HER FIND SOME OF THOSE LOST BITS, AND THAT HAD SPOOKED HER. SHE COULDN'T TRUST ANYONE DUE TO HER UTTER LACK OF BEING ABLE TO BE SOMEWHERE AT THE RIGHT TIME, AND LUCA HAD BEEN A CASUALTY OF THAT DISTRUST. TURNING HER FACE TO HIM, SHE OPENED HER MOUTH TO SPEAK AS THE NUMBERS CONTINUED TO CHIME AWAY IN THE BACKGROUND.
"I'M REALLY SORRY, LUCA," SHE COMMENTED QUIETLY, HER VOICE SOUNDING AWKWARD AS IT BROKE THE THICK SILENCE IN THE ELEVATOR. PART OF HER WAS APOLOGIZING FOR HER BEHAVIOR IN THE BAR, AND PART OF HER WAS APOLOGIZING FOR JUST WALKING AWAY FROM HIM SO MANY MONTHS AGO. SHE JUST COULDN'T FIND THE WORDS TO REASON IT ALL OUT, AND SHE WAS UNACCUSTOMED TO THAT. LEAVE IT TO LUCA TO BE THE ONE MAN WHO MADE HER TONGUE-TIED. LONDON ADDINGTON: ALWAYS THE WOMAN WITH SOMETHING TO SAY, AND SHE COULDN'T FIND THE WORDS TO TELL LUCA HOW SHE FELT. GAZING AT HIM, SHE OFFERED HIM A SMALL SMILE, HER EYES ADMIRING HIS HANDSOME FACE. SHE THOUGHT ABOUT HER MOTHER'S COMMENTS WHEN SHE'D TOLD HER ABOUT LUCA WHILE THEY WERE STILL DATING. SHE'D THOUGHT HIS EYES WERE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER, AND WHAT GOOD WAS A PHOTOGRAPHER FOR HER DAUGHTER ANYWAY? LONDON HAD TOLD HER MOTHER TO GO TO HELL FOR PROBABLY THE THOUSANDTH TIME IN THEIR LIVES AND HAD WALKED AWAY FROM HER. IF THE WOMAN DROPPED DEAD TOMORROW, LONDON WOULD PROBABLY SHOW UP AT THE FUNERAL BUT SHE COULDN'T SEE HOW SHE WOULD CRY. HOW COULD YOU CRY FOR SOMEONE WHO HAD TREATED YOU SO HORRENDOUSLY OVER A LIFETIME? SHE DIDN'T SEE HOW. SHE COULD ONLY SEE CRYING OVER SOMEONE WHO REALLY CARED ABOUT YOU AND MADE YOU FEEL LIKE MORE OF YOURSELF WHEN YOU WERE AROUND THEM.
SHE HAD CRIED OVER LUCA AFTER SHE BROKE UP WITH HIM.
IT WAS FUNNY, REALLY, HOW THEIR RELATIONSHIP HADN'T SEEMED THAT SERIOUS TO HER WHEN IT HAD STARTED, BUT IT HAD BECOME SO MUCH MORE AFTER IT WAS OVER. SHE'D REALIZED JUST HOW MUCH SHE HAD LOST, AND IT HAD TORN HER APART. HELL, IT STILL DID. LOOKING AWAY FROM HIM, SHE WATCHED AS THE NUMBERS FINALLY SLOWED AND REACHED HER FLOOR. AT ANY MOMENT SHE EXPECTED HIM TO TELL HER TO FUCK OFF AND TO LEAVE, BUT HE HADN'T DONE SO YET, AND SHE HOPED HE WOULDN'T LIVE UP TO HER EXPECTATIONS. THE DOOR 'BING'ED OPEN, AND SHE STEPPED TENTATIVELY TOWARD IT, GLANCING BACK AT HIM WITH A SMALL SMILE. REACHING DOWN, SHE GENTLY GRABBED HIS HAND AND PULLED HIM TOWARD HER, REACHING WITHIN HERSELF FOR THAT SPARK OF LIVELINESS SHE'D FOUND WHILE THEY WERE STILL IN THE BAR. SHE FOUND THAT IT WASN'T DIFFICULT AS LUCA'S SPICY COLOGNE WASHED OVER HER AND SHE LOOKED INTO HIS LIGHT EYES.
"EXACTLY HOW HARD AM I GOING TO HAVE TO WORK FOR MY HALF OF WHAT'S LEFT OF YOUR LOOT?" SHE ASKED, RAISING AN EYEBROW AND GRINNING MISCHIEVIOUSLY AT HIM. HER HEART BEAT WILDLY IN HER CHEST, BUT SHE MANAGED TO CONTINUE SMILING EXPECTANTLY AT HIM AS SHE PULLED HIM CLOSER TO THE DOOR AND CLOSER TO HERSELF. WHEN HE WAS CLOSE ENOUGH, SHE REACHED UP INTO HIS DIRTY BLOND HAIR WITH HER FREE HAND AND RAN HER FINGERS INTO IT. HIS HAIR WAS STILL COLD FROM THE OUTSIDE AIR, AND IT WAS LONGER THAN SHE REMEMBERED IT FROM BEFORE. UNCONSCIOUSLY, HER EYELIDS LOWERED IN A SEDUCTIVE GAZE AND SHE GENTLY LEANED IN AND KISSED HIM. AT ANY MOMENT SHE WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED IF HE JUST PUSHED HER AWAY AND WALKED OUT OF HER LIFE, FOR GOOD THIS TIME, BUT AS HER LIPS TOUCHED HIS, FIRE FLARED IN THE BACK OF HER SKULL AND IN HER STOMACH. HER THROAT CLENCHED WITH EXCITEMENT, AND SHE LEANED INTO HIM AS SHE DEEPENED THE KISS. SURELY HE COULD FEEL HER HEART TRYING TO BEAT ITS WAY RIGHT OUT OF HER CHEST, BUT SHE DIDN'T CARE.

LUCA. ANGELO. GIOVANNI.( MAYBE I WAS WRONG )( MAYBE I WAS DREAMLESS & FULL OF SUFFERING ) ----LUCA FELT KIND OF BAD because he knew exactly how this was going to end. he didn't know if chicago was her new home or if she was breezing in here on business like himself. even for those die-hard romantic film fanatics, this would be the point where you'd think two people like luca and london would get back together because what are the chances of them finding each other again? the first time didn't work out, london and her problems of trusting men, and luca never giving her a reason to change her mind about that. you can see the problems forming already but, luca could only think they were getting back together for just this one night. he had full intentions of leaving in the morning. probably, without even saying goodbye. brutal, honest, and a total luca-move. it's not like he would see her again. they didn't even discuss their lives since the break-up. he hadn't really heard too much about her since they parted ways. luca wasn't as involved in the fashion industry like he had been when they dated.
but luca knew his endgame. he knew where the night was leading. why would he leave with her to her hotel if he didn't expect to spend the night? she didn't ask him if he was seeing anyone. he wasn't, but she could be. maybe some metro male model or some fashion editor in one of the top magazines, someone luca could have worked with. even if she was, she must not be too serious with him if she was here with luca. things could be different though. they were older now. she got sexier. he? well, he got more cynical and sexist, but how was keeping notes? somehow, in luca's slightly tipsy mind, he wondered if they could have worked now. was she still going through trust issues? then again, luca probably would still be the same. not giving any information out, leaving without explanations, and being secretive. it would probably be harder now, actually. they were a little older and more like adults.
of course, london wouldn't be caught dead in some nasty, horror movie-like motel that luca was currently staying in. when luca looked out the cab's window, he admired the bright lights and started imagining how soft the bed was going to be. definitely was not going to be hard to sleep on. that depending on how much sleeping there technically would be, if you know what i mean. london passed the driver money for the fare, which was probably more than the chap deserved but it was only money to people like them. money that could be redistributed to them the next day. he got out, the cold chicago air greeting him. damn, days like this made him miss california and the constant sunny weather. they got into the lobby, which wasn't crowded. probably because most of the snuffs in this place had better things to do than hang out in the lobby. but luca did catch the receptionist look at both luca and london as she led him to the elevators. we could say the way luca was currently dressed wasn't really ritz-material.
the ride in the elevator was slightly awkward. there was no talking besides the chiming of the floors they were passing. london leaned up against him and luca slung his arm around her shoulder, like old times. luca internally shook his head at himself. he needed something strong. she, could not hold her alcohol. luca could and even if he was two, three full beers under the influence, the fact that he was thinking about the past showed that he was still thinking rationally. his hidden emotions were surfacing and he didn't like it. he wanted to get rid of them. luca wondered if he should talk to her. luca, a man of few words, couldn't exactly think of any good conversation starters. all of his, would probably be inappropriate for their situation or none of his business, so opting to just not talk proved to him that this thing that was quickly happening was merely physical. unfinished feelings between two people.
when she apologized to him, he found it completely random and out of the blue. what was she apologizing for? they barely spoke since leaving the bar. "shhh," he started pressing a finger to her lips. "it's ok. you're drunk." a few seconds later, the elevator doors slid open and london pulled him towards her, which luca was all too willing to follow her. "exactly how hard am i going to have to work for my half of what's left of your loot?" more pulling and london preceded to tangle her fingers in his hair. luca hung his head lower. he was hard on women, yes, but getting him in the position, and women could be his greatest weakness too. "i think... you're working hard enough," he mumbled and looked at her as her expression changed from drunk to seductive. she leaned in and her lips touched his. it was hesitant at first, like they weren't sure of themselves or we trying to see how the other one was reacting. was this bad? was this good? was this crossing a line? once neither of them pulled away she leaned in more and luca's hand wrapped around her back, one hand pressing on the small of her back, pressing her closer to him.
this felt actually, pretty good. most recently, he had been so caught up in work he hadn't hooked up with anyone lately. not that he couldn't get anyone, because luca was full aware of his effect on ladies when he wasn't acting like a douche bag. he had just been so busy. between cracking the case he was currently on, heading a crew in valkyrie, business in los angeles, and getting a new partner, it was a big plate for him. but he knew now, he didn't need to worry about all that stuff right now. it was a headache for another day. luca's arms started to roam. from the back of her neck to sliding over her legs. though he was slowly losing conscious thought, he did remember wherever her hands went they didn't reach by his back waistband. it would kind of be difficult to explain why luca was hiding a loaded weapon in his jeans. not to mention, it would probably ruin the mood.
luca also forgot that they were currently getting hot and heavy in the hallway of a five-star hotel. he was only reminded of where they were when he heard a door open and close. ripping his lips from hers, he looked at the source of the noise and saw an older couple walking down the hall, slightly tsk tsking luca and london. luca suppressed a smile as the older couple walked by and waited for the elevator. he waited until he head the doors close and broke into a grin, "so, which room is yours?" he asked, grabbing her hand and started walking down the hall with her until she stopped him.

WHEN YOU'RE AT THE END OF THE ROAD & YOU LOST ALL SENSE OF CONTROL ,& your thoughts have taken their toll , --------------------------------------------------------------------- AS LUCA KISSED HER BACK, LONDON FELT THE EXCITEMENT GO TO HER HEAD AND SHE GREW LIGHTHEADED. BEFORE, THE ALCOHOL HAD BEEN THERE TO FILL HER MIND, MAKING HER DIZZY OR GIDDY OR WHATEVER, BUT NOW IT WAS LUCA. SHE COULDN'T SAY WHETHER IT WAS LOVE COMING BACK INTO HER OR JUST RAW LUST, BUT WHATEVER IT WAS WAS QUICKLY REPLACING EVERY OTHER FEELING IN HER BODY. ALLOWING THE GIDDINESS TO TAKE OVER, SHE PRESSED HER BODY INTO HIS AS HIS HAND WENT TO HER LOWER BACK AND PULLED HER INTO HIM. HER MEMORIES FROM THEIR PAST RUSHED BACK TO HER IN AN INSTANT, FILLING IN THE EMPTY SPACES SHE HAD BEEN HOLLOWING OUT TO REPLACE THOSE MEMORIES, AND SHE ALLOWED THE MENTAL STIMULI TO OVERCOME HER. HOWEVER, AS A DOOR CLICKED BEHIND LUCA, HE TOOK HIS MOUTH FROM HERS AND GLANCED BEHIND HIM. SO CAUGHT UP WAS SHE IN THE MOMENT, THAT SHE DIDN'T REALIZE THAT AN OLDER COUPLE WAS COMING TOWARD THEM UNTIL THEY PASSED INTO THE ELEVATOR. GIGGLING TO HERSELF, SHE BURIED HER FACE IN LUCA'S CHEST AS THE ELEVATOR DOORS SHUT AND THE DISAPPROVING TSKING WAS SILENCED. LOOKING UP AT LUCA AS THEY WERE ONCE ALONE IN THE HALLWAY, SHE SMILED SLIGHTLY UP AT HIM AS HE LOOKED DOWN AT HER.
SHE HADN'T THOUGHT ABOUT ANYTHING PAST THIS NIGHT, AND SHE DIDN'T WANT TO. ALL SHE WANTED TO DO WAS ENJOY HERSELF FOR THE FIRST TIME IN QUITE A WHILE. ALL OF THIS WOULD PROBABLY END WHEN THE MORNING CAME, BUT SHE REFUSED TO THINK ON THAT NOW. AS HE GLANCED AROUND AND ASKED HER, WITH A SMILE, WHERE HER ROOM WAS, SHE SMILED COYLY, RAISED UP ON HER TIPTOES TO KISS HIM SWIFTLY ON HIS LIPS BEFORE ALLOWING HIM TO GRAB HER HAND AND BEGIN PULLING HER AWAY FROM THE ELEVATOR. UNABLE TO WIPE THE SMILE FROM HER FACE, SHE ALLOWED HIM TO LEAD HER UNTIL THEY REACHED THE HALFWAY POINT IN THE HALL, AND SHE RELEASED HIS HAND TO DIG INTO HER PURSE WHERE SHE'D STOWED HER ROOM KEY. QUICKLY, SHE PULLED IT OUT AND STEPPED TO THE ROOM'S DOOR, TURNING HER BACK TO IT TO FACE LUCA BEFORE SHE SLID THE KEY INTO ITS LOCK. SMILING A SMALL SMILE, SHE LEANED BACK ON THE DOOR AND PUT HER ARMS BEHIND HER AS SHE FACED HIM. REACHING OVER WITH HER HAND THAT HELD THE KEY, SHE SLIPPED IT INTO THE LOCK AS HER OTHER HAND REACHED OUT AND LOOPED AROUND LUCA'S NECK, PULLING HIM IN AFTER HER AS THE DOOR CLICKED OPEN TO ADMIT THEM.
THIS TIME WHEN SHE KISSED HIM, SHE DIDN'T HOLD BACK LIKE SHE HAD BEFORE, SENSING THAT HE WASN'T GOING TO RUN FROM HER AS SHE'D FIRST IMAGINED. HER LIPS SOUGHT HIS HUNGRILY, AND SHE PUSHED THE DOOR CLOSED BEHIND THEM AS SHE KISSED HIM AS THEY ENTERED THE ROOM. THE SUITE SPREAD OUT AROUND THEM IN DARKNESS SINCE NIGHT HAD FULLY FALLEN AFTER SHE DEPARTED FOR THE BAR. NOT BOTHERING TO FLIP ON THE LIGHTS, SHE PAUSED IN KISSING HIM ONLY LONG ENOUGH TO PULL OFF HER RED COAT AND DROP IT TO THE FLOOR. LOOKING UP INTO HIS LIGHT EYES, SHE TOUCHED HIS SHIRT WITH HER HAND AND INQUIRED OF HIM WITH HER GAZE AS SHE EXAMINED EVERY DETAIL OF HIS HANDSOME FACE. A SMALL, THOUGHTFUL SMILE CRESTED HER LIPS AS SHE LEANED HER HEAD BACK AND LOOKED UP AT HIM IN THE SEMI-DARKNESS. LIGHT FROM THE CITY BEYOND THE HUGE WINDOWS ALONG ONE WALL OF THE ROOM ILLUMINATED LUCA WITH AN URBAN HALO THAT MATCHED HIM PERFECTLY IN HER EYES. THERE HAD ALWAYS BEEN A HINT OF MYSTERY ABOUT HIM THAT HAD INTRIGUED HER AS WELL AS SCARING HER, BUT SHE DIDN'T LET IT BOTHER HER NOW. SHE ONLY WOULD ENJOY IT.
PUTTING HER MOUTH AGAINST HIS, SHE TEASED HIM BY REFUSING TO KISS HIM EVEN AS SHE PRESSED HER SLENDER BODY AGAINST HIS MUSCULAR FRAME AGAIN. A SMILE CURVED OVER HER MOUTH AS SHE BREATHED HOTLY AND RAN HER FREE HAND DOWN HIS SIDE. GIVING IN TO HER OWN IMPATIENCE, SHE FINALLY KISSED HIM AND GENTLY TURNED HIM, PULLING HIS SHIRT TO GUIDE HIM OVER TO THE BED WITH HER. SHE STEPPED OUT OF HER SHOES WHICH PUT HER A FEW INCHES SHORTER AND SIGNIFICANTLY SHORTER THAN HIM. WRAPPING BOTH OF HER ARMS AROUND HIS NECK, SHE KISSED HIM PASSIONATELY AND FELT HER BODY HEATING UP FROM THEIR TOUCH. AS SHE REACHED THE BED, FEELING IT AGAINST THE BACKS OF HER KNEES, SHE PAUSED AND PULLED HER MOUTH FROM HIS, LOOKING UP AT HIM AGAIN THROUGH HEAVILY-LIDDED BLUE-GREEN EYES. HER FINGERS PLAYED WITH THE FRONT OF HIS TEE-SHIRT AS A BRIEF MOMENT OF SHYNESS OVERCAME HER. IT HAD BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE THEY HAD BEEN TOGETHER THIS WAY, AND DESPITE HER DOUBTS ABOUT HIM STICKING AROUND LATER - NOT THAT SHE WOULD BLAME HIM - SHE WANTED THE MOMENT TO LAST. "I HAVE TO ADMIT I'VE MISSED THIS", SHE COMMENTED WITH A SEXY LITTLE SMILE. BENDING HER KNEES, SHE PLOPPED DOWN ONTO THE BED AND TUGGED HIS SHIRT, LURING HIM AFTER HER.
