CARLY ISABELLE SUTTON
VALKRYIE ACADEMY, INDOOR POOL, NIGHT, OCTOBER 2007
[/font][/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]-----brown eyes stared over the dark, chlorine potent room, her free hand searching for the light as the other held a very specific hand in particular. that of sebastian devereux. god what was it about this guy in particular that had her circling the edge of her sanity? seriously? carly had made some specific promises to herself before moving to valkyrie, most of them taking place as she wrapped memories in newspaper and stuffed them into boxes. after all, many, many things were put into perspective when you wrapped dozens of picture frames of you and your family over the years. to see all of that happiness and stability thrown out the window, it was hard, but not more than knowing that it was all your fault to begin with. that's what all of this was. that was why carly was in valkyrie to begin with. because she'd done something so apparently socially horrible that it was damn necessary to throw her out of her home town of keizer, oregon. well they thought it necessary to get rid of her, and carly felt it damn necessary to build a wall around her heart and never let something like this happen again. alright, so what was the deal with sebastian? truth be told, carly wished she knew. she wished someone could tell her why this one guy in particular got to her in a way that most others didn't. some how this one guy was able to roll with her punches and keep her guessing. he wasn't just someone carly saw herself pushing aside or toying with because it amused her. firstly she only did that in the first place to keep from feeling anything. but instead of just toying with him, yes instead of a little make out session and then kissing him off for good, carly was here, at the pool, after hours, with sebastian again.
-----this had to be the start of a new record because not only was she hanging out with sebastian once again, but she'd actually wanted to. carly actually didn't have to put any thought into the practice of saying yes to him, it just came naturally. the power that he had over her, even now, and especially over her specifically designed walls, had her terrified. sebastian was the one person in valkyrie, who wasn't related to her, who could bring out the real side of her. he had the potential to hurt her, just like she promised herself she'd never give anyone the power to do again. she'd hand delivered that power to sebastian. hand delivered? no, she'd sent it to him overnight with a pretty bow on top. damn it. but back to the promises...back in keizer, as she'd been wrapping up figurines and pictures in old newspaper, carly had promised herself that she'd never get hurt again. she promised herself that she wouldn't give anyone the opportunity to hurt her and thus would never really let anyone in. let people think they were there, fine, but actually let someone in to see the real her? well had she known that one guy would decimate that finely-prompted promise to herself, well carly wouldn't have bothered with it in the first place. after all what was the use in building up a wall when sebastian seemed to have the key that opened all the doors within them? she just couldn't peg it. why him? what made him so special or so different that she couldn't just get away unscathed?
-----if only she could explain it. her hands felt along the cold, uneven tiles as she searched for the floodlight, finally finding it and giving it the flip. the light within the pool water flickered on, sending light throughout the blue water and sending blue waves of light all throughout the building. "how about a dare?" carly asked sebastian, gently sliding her hand from his now that she could see everything. she left him by the door as she walked forward, walking along the edge of the pool. "what do you say to a midnight swim?" looking back over her shoulder, blue waves lighting up her features, carly smiled at him, a devilish little smile that better have him quaking in his boots. with perfect balance, she stepped up onto her tip toes and made a little turn, swinging a leg over the water, daring herself to fall in seeing as how she was still wearing her street clothes. she turned on her toes, abruptly facing him before stepping away from the pool to walk up to his side again. "remember the beach? that was fun...." she trailed off as she took his hand, leading him to the benches that lined the wall parallel to the pool. they were used primarily for the swim team to relax before, during, and after practice, or as the main huddle for the swim team during meets. either way, carly didn't really give a damn. she was still going to walk over to the benches and sit sebastian down.
-----once his butt was securely seated on the cold, grating metal benches, carly backed away, her fingers undoing the buttons of her red and white plaid shirt. "you see, i'm in dire need of a swim. not such a fan of the chlorine, but i like seeing who or what i'm swimming with." she slowly peeled the shirt from her body, letting it drop behind her as she continued to walk toward the pool in a pair of skinny jeans and a black, lace-y bra. her shoes were next, the low slung flats falling off easily within two steps. next was the jeans. within a short period of time, carly was nearly naked, standing at the lip of the pool, hovering over the five foot pool depth sign. she turned to look over her shoulder once again, her hair splaying out with the force of her turn, a smile on her lips. "don't be shy." she said with a chuckle before she dove.--------------------------------------------------------status • finished
