[/size]Whoever said life was an adventure… was wrong. God, what did people do on days like this? It was a Saturday afternoon in December, just a few weeks before Christmas break rolled around, and absolutely nothing was going on. Maybe Paisely was just out of the loop these days. Maybe she was losing her touch. Man, she needed to find something to do, anything really. Perhaps this immense boredom was the reason Jacob had gotten a job. She didn’t want a job though. School was her job, and like she had very much time with volley ball and everything. All her siblings had something or another to do other than be with her… which was absolutely ridiculous considering there were nine of them. Noah and Saydie had good excuses. He was married and had a little boy… and Saydie was in Hawaii with her best friend. Only God knew where Melanie was. Probably with some friends or studying. Jacob was practicing considering he was obsessively involved in his baseball. Peter was running some charity marathon. Camilla was on a date. Then Edmund, Hunter, and Cam were at a birthday party. The only people left were her parents who, as always, weren’t caught up in their work. But what high school senior wanted to hang out with their parents anyway? She’d rather be sitting alone on this park bench. Yeah, the weather was nice, she couldn’t complain about that. It was a slow moving day and pretty much the only noise was the elegant fountain in front of her bubbling quietly. It was a nice environment… for somebody with patience who enjoyed that sort of thing. Paisely, however, was the type of girl who liked to be on the go. She liked having things to do, places to go, people to see… otherwise she got bored really fast. It was like noon, and she had yet to make any plans. As for tonight, well, she could probably find some party to hit or if it really came down to it… she could go to dinner with one of her siblings. Jacob or Peter would probably be free later, maybe Melanie… but she was a socialite and always had things to see to. If nothing else, well, the three younger boys would be home tonight for sure and she could always take them to dinner. It wasn’t like either of her parents would be home for dinner and miss them. Hopefully though, Paisely would have something much more fun to do. Hanging out with her brothers wasn’t something she really liked doing, not the younger ones. I mean, she saw them all the time… so when she was finally free to do whatever she liked they weren’t really on her list of priorities to hang out with. She refused to believe she wouldn’t have anything to do on a Saturday night. Otherwise she would consider herself an even bigger failure than she did right now.
Her eyes wandered, following people as they passed. Her elbows were resting on her legs, her face pointing straight at her legs the majority of the time because that is where she left her phone, face up. Why wasn’t she getting any damn text messages? Did nobody at all even care if she lived or died? She groaned and threw her head back, leaning on the bench again. She was starting to get hungry but definitely did not have the motivation to get up and go find something to eat or go some place. It wasn’t like she was starving. What was the point? Maybe she should just lay down a sleep there on that bench like a homeless person. She might have done it, but that might just allow some creep in a hippie van to pick her up and toss her in the back without warning. That was definitely not something she wanted to do today. A breeze blew and her curly dark hair whipped around her face. She flailed with her lips, trying to get the few pieces that go stuck in her lip gloss off. A girl walking by who was on the phone gave her a weird look as she walked by and Paisely scowled at her, ”What are you looking at?” the other girl’s look became sour and she rolled her eyes, walking away. Lord, why did they have to do that? Here she was, sitting on a bench, minding her own business, trying to get her hair to behave itself… and of course some stupid girl had to made her feel even worse about this loneliness. Suddenly her phone dinged and her face lit up. She snatched it out of her lap and held it like three inches away from her face in desperate excitement. Pressing buttons quickly, her expression turned bitter when she read the message. Just a stupid forward. Why did people bother sending her those? She found them stupid and it wasn’t like they were true or ever worked. Paisely was much too energetic for her own good. She thought about getting up and going to the beach to play volleyball… but of course, she had nobody to go with. Was anybody else on this stupid planet dying of boredom to the extent that she was? She couldn’t even remember the last time she had a day all to herself. It’d been so long that she didn’t even know what to do anymore. What did other girls do when they had nothing at all to do? What did they do on their free days? How on earth would she know! She was always busy with her family or sports or on a date or at a party. I mean, she didn’t even have homework to catch up on. Was this what Christmas break was going to be like? Because if that was the case, well hell, she was going to pack up and go to Mexico without letting anybody know. How did people live like this? In this isolation? She could never be a hermit, not in a million years.
Paisely was wishing, praying, hoping even that a friend of hers would just happen to stroll by or maybe just a familiar face from school, or even some hot guy she’d never seen in her life. Even if she didn’t talk to him, at least she’d have something to stare at until he was out of sight. She wondered how much longer she could sit there before she went absolutely insane. A couple walked by suddenly, holding hands and kissing. Paisely made a throw up sound in her mouth and leaned back, folding her arms tightly across her chest, ”Disgusting,” she snapped. The two looked back at her, probably too far back to hear what exactly she had said, but they could definitely see the sarcastic look plastered to her face. Couples. Love. The whole deal… it was vile business. What was the point of falling for somebody if they weren’t even going to catch you? The relationship aspect of like was totally over rated. Sure, it was fun for a short while… but after that it was just trouble. Shaking her head, Paisely popped her lips, forgetting about the love birds. She leaned forward again, her elbows back on her knees and her chin resting in her palms. Man, life sucked sometimes.
