full name: Brooklyn Ashford Matthews
gender: boy.
age: seventeen
school year: junior
art interest: sports
portrayed by: alex pettyfer
appearance:
Brooklyn was lucky to be blessed when it came to his genes. He's always been called 'adorable' by his mother's friends and even random strangers used to approach him and tell him how lucky he was to have good looks at such a young age. He never really considered himself to be 'hot' or 'good looking' but he always was fairly modest and doesn't like a lot of attention so perhaps it was wishful thinking. He's been given many different labels at his different schools of which there have been a lot. The new kid is always judged fairly quickly and despite not being the most approachable guy, he seems to fit in easily because of of his looks. Thanks to his hair, he's been called a 'surfie' a fair bit which is fine since he does surf whenever he can but he mostly gets called something along the lines of 'mysterious'. Both of which he is fine with since they do sort of suit him although he's not sure of the mysterious thing. He's never been one to put a whole lot of effort in his appearance because he never really had time to impress people properly since he's so busy moving everywhere and honestly, Brooklyn never really cared about how he looked too much. So let's go into detail shall we?
Despite having a mother with fairly dark hair, Brooklyn ended up with very light blonde hair when he was born but as he grew older, it did darken and then he started getting highlights and darkening it so it isn't completely natural but his natural colour today is still a fairly light, dirty blonde. He has darker streaks in it now though but they still look fairly natural too and blend in so it isn't completely obvious. Because he does like surfing he has the whole surfie hair thing down pretty well. He doesn't really like cutting it too often and usually lets it grow fairly long before his mother forces him to get it cut. His hair is usually fairly messy and he doesn't really style it too much so it usually falls around his face and does whatever but it always manages to look somewhat decent but not like he tried too hard because, well he doesn't try much at all.
Moving on from his hair, let's take a look at Brooklyn's face. He has a fairly ordinary face with no extremely obvious features. It's a slightly oval shape and he has a defined chiseled jaw with, at seventeen years of age, he finally has a light stubble growing. He doesn't bother shaving too much since he's quite pleased with this new feature. Brooklyn's eyes are a very dark shade of green that almost look black sometimes if the light is different. He has a fairly brooding expression most of the time but apart from that there isn't much you can say about Brooklyn's face. He has a fairly nose which he used to despise but he grew into it and now he doesn't even think about it.
Brooklyn isn't extremely tall either. His mother has always been very short but Brooklyn's father was fairly tall so Brooklyn ended up in the middle, coming up to about 5'8 roughly which is a lot taller than his mother who only comes up to 5'4. He is the tallest out of his small family since his little sister is tiny too but compared to other guys his age, he's proably an average height. Brooklyn isn't exactly bulky either. He doesn't really like working out or any of that junk but he is a sports fanatic and loves soccer and football especially so he is fairly fit which is explains the all the girls that sit on the edge of the pitch when Brooklyn is playing. He certainly has the sporting bug and prefers to be outdoors running around, rather than inside. He doesn't get dressed up much and since he doesn't spend much time on his hair, he doesn't spend much time on his clothes either. He usually just wears his old pair of jeans and a shirt but he will put on a tux if he's going out somewhere fancy.

character personality ,
personality:( bad communicator )
Moving around every few weeks or months means that Brooklyn has always had trouble maintaining his friendships. He hasn't been able to have any stable relationships because whats the point if he's just going to leave in a few weeks anyway? He's always had trouble opening up to people and it's become more and more pronoucned as he got older. Brooklyn has never been and never will be a people-person. He prefers to be alone or just with his mum and sister since they are the people he knows best. Even then though, Brooklyn never knows what to say in most situations. He has never had a good way with words and struggles to make decent conversation with pretty much everyone. Even his mother and sister struggle to get more than one sentence out of him sometimes but usually he isn't too bad. He just doesn't want to say anything stupid so he tends to over-think and that means by the time he's thought of something to say, the conversation has moved on or the person has walked away. Great huh? But Brooklyn can't help it. This is probably why most of his girlfriends have been extremely talkative. They talked so much that Brooklyn didn't have to say much apart from the occasional 'wow, then what?' and such. Not that he ever had many people to talk to anyway which probably caused the issue.( unwillingly intelligent )
Brooklyn despises school. Most of the schools he's been to have all been taught in different languages so he's had to either learn the language really quickly which isn't too much of a problem for him, or have translators near him which is kind of embarrassing and usually draws attention to Brooklyn which he hates. Lucky for him, he's actually a pretty intelligent guy even though he doesn't show it much. He has always had a very logical mind and can work things out such as math problems and puzzles pretty easily. Of course Brooklyn hates school and all that so he usually acts a lot stupider than he really is at school and certainly doesn't flaunt his abilities to think quickly unless it's related to something with his mates when they're all mucking around. But generally, Brooklyn doesn't really like being smart because to him, school is stupid and being smart isn't going to get him a great career in sports.( caring )
Despite being a bad communicator and all, Brooklyn is a really caring guy once he gets to know people. He does have a very awkward vibe to him at first but he does feel very protective over people he cares about, especially females. He has been the man of his family almost his entire life since there's never been a stable man in his life so he's taken the job. It's Brooklyn who will run down to the store and buy the extra ice cream for his mum and it was Brooklyn who yelled at the airport luggage crew when they lost his baby sister's teddy bear. He likes taking care of people because it makes him feel important and slightly supierior too but it's also because he is just that type of guy who likes making sure the people he loves are content. You can always trust Brooklyn to treat women with respect because he's seen what happens to the women when men treat them wrong. His mother's tears have proved it over and over again and he swore to himself a long time ago that he would try to never make a girl cry like guys make his mother cry.
( stubborn )
There are a few traits in the Suresh family that seem to be passed on to every generation. The current generation all seem to have recieved several common traits. These are the sweetness that they all seem to have since there's yet to be a bitchy Suresh and then there's the stubborness. Almost all of the children currently have at least a hint of stubborness somewhere in their personality. Brookyn is no exeption of course. He clearly got this from his mother who is a Suresh. She may be a free spirit but she is stubborn and when she wanted to move to France, she moved even though her entire family disapproved. But anyway, back to Brooklyn. When he has an opinion, no one can make him change his mind. He is very strong-minded sometimes and refuses to change his mind about things, however wrong he can be. This is something else to be noted about Brooklyn. He hates being wrong and it takes a lot to make him admit it.( apprehensive )
Apprehensive is one word that definitely describes Brooklyn about 99% of the time because 99% of the time he has perfectly good reason to be so now it's like second nature to him. This is because of his mother of course. He is always very wary of new people but especially men who are talking to his mother. He loves travelling, he really does but he hates the reason behind all the moving. He's always worried that pretty much every guy who talks to his mother or even his sister is going to hurt them which is probably why his sister struggles to maintain boyfriends since they usually get warned by Brooklyn not to hurt her and get freaked out. He really doesn't trust many other males at all really although he does have guy friends, he just doesn't completely trust them. There's always the apprehension that they'll do something stupid and hurt his sister or mother somehow.

history:
Brooklyn's mother Lola Suresh gave birth to Brooklyn when she was only seventeen years old. She'd been dating Brooklyn's father for a little under four months and Brooklyn was very much unplanned and quite a shock to both Lola and her boyfriend Andrew. He was a year older than Lola but no where near ready to be a father yet. He freaked out when Lola told him she was pregnant and left town a few days afterwards, leaving Lola pregnant with a broken heart. She'd honestly believed Andrew would stick around. With him gone, she was left to give birth and raise her son on her own. Her parents weren't exactly proud of her situation and she wasn't really happy with it either. Lola was seventeen and definitely not mother-material, in fact even seventeen years on, she still isn't. But at seventeen, she was stil very much a teenager. Lola was the baby of her family and not ready to start her own family so soon. Look at all the teenagers in Valkyrie right now and try to imagine them as parents. It's virtually impossible. Luckily Lola's family did stick by her even when Andrew didn't. So Brooklyn was born in a small hospital in Brooklyn, thus his name.
As Brooklyn grew up, his mother continued to cling to her old life as a young teenager which wasn't the best idea. She left him with babysitters a lot and had a long string of boyfriends who usually turned out to be big creeps. Several of them were involved in things that just frightened Lola and she'd break up with them immediately. One of Lola's bad habits was to move every time she broke up with a guy. She was always scared that she'd see them around and they'd try to get back with her or try and hurt her so she travelled all around the country with her little son. When Brooklyn was one and a half and they were living in Florida, Lola fell into yet another bad relationship which went horribly wrong when she discovered he was a drug dealer and a very dangerous one at that. Terrified that he'd try and hurt her, Lola packed her things, grabbed Brooklyn and snuck out of their apartment one night and caught the next plane out of the country. She ended up in France which was fine as she'd spent several years learning French in high school. Lola spent the next few years roaming around Europe and going from relationship to relationship. She was a bit of a hippie and didn't plan her future very well so she just went with the flow and made sure she always had enough money to feed Brooklyn. It's safe to say that Brooklyn grew up in a very unstable home though and he was constantly being forced to adjust to new schools and new places.
The years went on and Lola continued falling for the bad boys and even married some for some crazy reason. Brooklyn never liked any of his mother's boyfriends. There were a couple of nice guys but Lola usually left them, claiming they were too boring. Go figure. Brooklyn never told his mother how he felt because he didn't want to upset her. If she was mad at him, he'd have no one to talk to because he never really knew anyone. Brooklyn was a shy boy and didn't really see the point in opening up to people and making new friends if he was only going to move soon anyway. He hated it but it was the way things were for him. It was just him and his mum against the world in his eyes. This changed when Brooklyn turned three though. He and his mother were back in America for a short time but things were about to change forever. Just like she had when she was seventeen, Lola fell pregnant. Just like when she was seventeen, she'd only been with this boyfriend for four months and just like when she was seventeen, the boyfriend freaked out. He kicked Lola out of their shared appartment a few days after he found out. Lola struggled to find a place to stay but managed to find places as she moved around again.
Nine months later, Lola gave birth to a baby girl. Since she was born in Dallas, Texas, Lola named her baby girl Dallas, just like she'd named Brooklyn after the town he was born in. When Dallas was two years old and Brooklyn five, Lola packed them up again and took them back to Europe. They spent a lot of time travelling all over the place. From town to town, city to city and country to country. Lola tried to stay in France as much as possible since she had a soft spot for that place but they also spent lots of time in Italy, Greece and Spain since she loved those countries too. Lola saw it as an easy way to get some culture into Brooklyn and his baby sister at a nice young age but really it was just stopping him from opening up to anyone. He's never had many friends because he found it harder and harder to open up.
For the next several long years of Brooklyn's life, it was just him, Dallas and their mother, apart from the boyfriends and husbands constantly drifting in and out of their lives. Lola's break-ups tended to be very messy and usually left her in tears for days so Brooklyn had to grow up quickly. He was usually the one comforting her and making sure she didn't go off and get drunk and bring home yet another sleaze. His sister was too young most of the time to really understand what was going on and Brooklyn didn't want her involved. He really was the man of the family even as a little boy. He made sure his little sister didn't forget her teddy when they packed to move again and made sure his mother had her favourite ice cream in the freezer when she suffered another break-up. Which brings us to the reason for their arrival in Valkyrie all of a sudden. Well you might notice that despite being a Suresh, Brooklyn and his mother and sister share a different last name. Well when Brooklyn was fifteen, he and his mother and sister were living in France where Lola met a very handsome and very charming man named Blaise Matthews. He was also a traveller and connected with Lola very easily so of course they started dating not long after, much to Brooklyn's disappointment. This went very well and after three months of dating, Lola and Blaise tied the knot in a small ceromony in a small church in France.
Everything seemed to be going fine until a few months into the marriage, Blaise's true self started seeping out from his act. He was very controlling and harsh and when Lola tried to leave him, he became physically abusive. Lola was terrified but couldn't leave and for once Brooklyn didn't want to leave even though he knew it would be best but he actually had started making friends in this new town. Finally though, Lola woke Brooklyn and his sister up in the middle of the night, told them to pack and smuggled them out of the house. They walked to the nearest bus stop and caught a bus to the airport where Lola booked three one-way tickets to America. Once they got off the plane, Lola called several of her brothers until she got a hold of Frank who she hadn't seen for seventeen years and begged him for help. There was no way she'd divorce Blaise without some help so Frank agreed to help his sister and invited her to go come and stay with him. Grateful to her brother, Lola dragged her two tired children to the town of Valkyrie hoping to escape all her dramas once and for all.
