----"WHAT THE HELL are you doing?" the muffled voice of her brother, petros, came from behind her. sophie was buried deep beneath her bed. "milo ran under here so i have to get him." she heard the uneven steps of petros creep up behind her. "why is milo under your bed?" sophie laughed and started scooting herself back from underneath. "duh, not milo-milo.," she said, as she made sure her head made clearance from the bed frame. her arms were the last to make it from underneath the bed and she held up the fat, tan, rabbit. she shoved him up to petros, who recoiled immediately. he never had really liked sophie's pet from the beginning, but put up with it because sophie really liked him. "see?" petros looked at the floopy-eared animal in her arms. "oh. well, looks like milo-milo to me." sophie glared at him. she lifted her head up a little and walked past him. "i'm just going to ignore that." she moved into the living room and put milo on the couch as she pulled on her cardigan that was laying across the top of the couch.
"where are you going?" petros asked her. sophie shrugged. "over to milo's. p.s i love you came out on dvd, so we're going to watch it." petros shifted uncomfortably, his hands in his pockets. "um, you know, you are uh, coming home tonight, right?" could that have sounded more awkward? petros trying to act parental made her laugh. she was only a couple years younger than him. and he was acting like she was twelve. this was typical petros though, always trying to protect his innocent little sister. maybe it was he felt like he had to since they were in america all by themselves. their parents were still in greece kicking. if something ever happened to her, petros would be responsible for it. "yes, i'll be home tonight. the only milo i'm sleeping with tonight is him." she picked up rabbit-milo and made kissing sounds at him. petros sighed and rolled his eyes. sophie never quite understood why petros had such a hissy fit over her dating milo. sophie didn't think petros realized that she could be going out with someone much much worse. she could be going out with someone like petros. he should have been worried then. but milo ellis? it was ridiculous that petros treated him like a criminal, when milo was so clearly the exact opposite.
"shouldn't you be finding a job, anyways?" sophie asked him. the thing right now with petros was that he was in america doing nothing. at least last year he had to finish up his last year of high school, but now, he was here just for shits and giggles. about a month ago he hit it rock bottom real bad on the coattails of his break up with audrey harper. all he did was party at bare or the club at the hotel the inferno. he'd bring random girls home at random times in the night and he was blowing his money left and right. there were even times when he'd come home with a black eye or busted lip and tell sophie that he was never going to drink again, and then he'd wake up the next morning ready for round two. sophie had been really worried about him, but it's not like she alone could do anything about it. she enlisted in daphne's help, but her cousin's help could only go so far since eight percent of the time, daphne would cave and go with him to the party. sophie didn't know why she was so worried. this was what petros had been when they have lived in greece and he had been bouncing from one boarding school to the next. she guessed it was because she had seen him to happy while he had been dating audrey that it was hard for her to see him go back to his old ways. "me? a job? you've got to be kidding me sophie." sophie shook her hair, her brown hair dance across her shoulder blades. yeah, her hair was still short but it was growing itself out. "no, i'm serious, petros. all you do is laze around the house all day and then go out." petros pointed at himself. "then i guess i'll be a professional partier." sophie rolled her eyes. if he was going to be a dick about it, then she was done talking about it.
most of the day, sophie was usually at school anyways. finally a senior she could quite possibly be the happiest student at the academy. she had been loving going to school. not just for the academics, but being involved with so much. she was meeting so many people, joining a lot of clubs. sophie was just thrilled that she was living in america attending an american high school. it was so different than the high schools in europe. she knew if she had to go back to greece and finish high school there it would be a lot different. "i'm just going to go," sophie told him. "don't forget you have a curfew. yeah, right. when sophie would come home, she was positive that he would be gone anyway.
a cab had dropped her off at milo's house and this place had pretty much become a second home for her since she found herself here all the time with milo. it had been about a half hour since petros was bitching at her and now sophie and milo were up in his room, the movie already playing. they were laying on his bed, her arm curved around his stomach and her head slightly on his shoulder as she gazed at the tv in front of them. "you know," sophie said. "it's so sad that her husband died. i couldn't imagine life after something like that happened." she had no idea if he was the least bit interested in the obvious chick-flick, but she had wanted to watch it and he had just agreed.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - milo ellis was happy. and no, not just your run of the mill "i found a twenty on the street" or "oh yay, we have my favorite kind of ice cream" happy. really happy. happier than he would ever have predicted he would be now a couple of years ago. because, back then, it seemed that happiness was always something permanently just out of reach; something sold at all those fancy boutiques that he couldn't afford to shop at, and even if he could, it would always be the stuff that was stocked up in the back for all the celebrities and important people. never for him. always for someone else. however, soon after moving to valkyrie, he had discovered an except to this little principle the world evidently operated on.
and her name was sophie hayes-castellanos.
it seemed to milo an odd and uncharacteristic twist of fate for all this to have happened to him. for him to have the most wonderful and beautiful girl in the world as his girlfriend. because from what he had experienced of life thus far, he concluded that the main lesson it seemed to be trying to teach him was that he shouldn't ever get his hopes up for anything. what goes up must come down, right? simple physics. when computed into his method of viewing and dealing with the world, sophie didn't make a huge amount of sense. so, during the first inklings of their relationship, he had spent most of his time rather dazed that she could possibly have any feelings for him, dorky old milo ellis. even now it was still rather unbelievable. but during most of the time he spent with her, he was too busy just being happy to dwell on that too much.
he didn't even care that petros hayes, sophie's older brother, pretty much hated his pretty guts. it had been rather... distressing for a while in the beginning, most prominently when petros had seen them kissing at a charity event and went batshit crazy. and he had used to feel like he had betrayed petros by breaking the "friends don't date friends' sisters" rule of the guy code, but now... eh. he loved sophie, so not much else seemed too terribly important. he would certainly prefer it if petros were to, ahem, pull his head out of his ass so that they could possibly be friends again, but for now it was cool if he didn't. as long as he didn't decided to murder milo in some sort of painful and gruesome way, at least. honestly, milo really did not see why petros was so stinking unpleasant about the whole thing. sophie very well could have chosen to date someone a lot more... mischievous than himself. like one of the elite academy boys would did absolutely nothing with their time except booze out, get high and womanize. in comparison, milo was pretty much a fucking choir boy.
the fact that he had agreed to was ps i love you with sophie should have been some kind of indication at least to petros that milo cared a lot about his sister. it was just... such a chick flick. he doubted he would be annoyed to the point of wanting to go out and find some holy water and shout "the power of christ compels you!!" at the tv, but he was fairly sure it was going to be boring and just... not his type of movie.
he was proved right after sophie had arrived and they settled down in his room and got the dvd a-spinning in his dvd player. he didn't really mind it, but it wasn't really holding his attention... at all, and he watched with a mild disinterest. the fact that sophie was curled up right next to him made it bearable, though. and, well, since they were both lying on his bed, he couldn't help but think about a few certain things... he was a guy, sue him. "you know, it's so sad that her husband died. i couldn't imagine life after something like that happened." that brought milo's attention back to the movie a little... he had honestly almost forgotten that the irish guy was dead. "mhmm," he replied, giving her forehead a quick kiss. a depressing thought occurred to him as sophie's comment sank in a bit more deeply; about what he would do if he lost sophie. gack. he really didn't want to think about that. at all. during the summer, when she had had to leave valkyrie and go back to greece, all he had had wanted to was mope around the house with a bowl of cereal. he couldn't imagine actually losing her for good. it was scary.
he'd take having to watch chick flicks over that any day.
curling his arm up around her slim shoulders, he exhaled slowly. "you know, i think you should have brought milo the rabbit with you," he said. "i think he'd really get a kick out of this movie." he smiled crookedly. "or hilary swank, at least." - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - STATUS finished. ----SOPHIE SMILED WHEN MILO KISSED HER on the forehead. how she had missed him and the way he always put smiles on her face. why was he so... good. he never though there were guys like this out there. sophie had lived in the world where everything happened fast. she had been a model in what felt like forever. her mom pushed her into it. elene being a fashion designer and all. who didn't want to be a model in campaigns that were shown all around the world? sophie started out with being her mother's number one, but later she started going on runways. travelling around the world for new york fashion week, paris fashion week, and milan's. for being fifteen and sixteen, traveling by yourself made you see the world in a different view. not in the good way either. when all you do is hang out with girls your age, you only do what you can when you don't have any parental supervision.
is it hard to see the sweet sophie we all know was once a party animal? well, she was. it was something she'd rather not talk about. especially since she could be compared to petros on the partying ways. when there was no show, you went out and went to clubs. europe was always far more easier to get into clubs than the usa was. sophie always had a huge advantage because she could speak english. there were always a few type of guys her and her friends for the week would meet. there was the other male models with their pasty bodies and faces that after awhile, they all looked the same. then there were the boys like petros: rich, attractive, and ego's biggers than the real celebs that got the first row at the fashion shows. they were always fun because they were always up for buying pretty girls drinks. of course, all of sophie's fun ended when she collapsed on a runway in berlin. that sort of ended her modeling career.
eleni tried to revive it just this past summer when sophie and petros went back to athens. who knew that scandal star would have been watching her and her brother in athens? because scandal star posted on her blog that sophie had moved on from milo when they first broke up and was dating some other greek boy. the greek boy was the male model for her mother's new mens' line. he was nice, but he was no milo and sophie missed him terribly. for as much as petros hated milo, sophie would be thanking petros for coming back to california so she could finish high school with the friends she met and reconcile with milo. everything worked out and she still didn't know someone could be this lucky.
what was funny was that sophie was aware that this so wasn't milo's type of movie. the fact that he was watching it was what was making sophie's night. she squeezed him closer, smiling again as her eyes focused back on the television. poor hilary swank. this movie was really touching her heart. the way her husband was still with her. whether it was her imagination or his spirit, it was tearing her apart. sophie felt for hilary's character even if she had never experienced a lost love like that. that just must be awful. seeing your dead husband everywhere. feel him like he was still there. she sighed unevenly. it made her uncomfortable to think about it.
when he mentioned milo the rabbit, she giggled. moving her head position so she got a good look at milo. she kissed his jaw. "i know this really isn't your kind of movie. but thanks." she looked at him out of the corner of her eye, her lips spreading into a secret smile. "besides..." she said as she hooked her leg over his. "milo jr. gets jealous really easy. he's probably be kicking your ass right now." sophie was forgetting more and more about the movie because it was getting more and more depressing. she wanted to live in the moment. enjoy what she had right in front of her. sophie's hand was laying across his chest so she removed it and ran a hand through his dark hair. propping herself up momentarily on her elbow she moved her body so she was on top of him. her shorter hair fell into her eyes as she smiled down at him. she gave him a quick peck on the lips. "love you," she said with yet another smile.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - it was odd to know that he had been in valkyrie for... how long had it been? almost a year now. seriously, that was weird. so much had changed since then. before he had moved here, he had been living in montana, unwisely dappling far too much into his father's drug trade. he had still been that shy, awkward boy everyone at school had grown up around and was used to, with an odd twist of behavior that he was engaging in after hours. then, his father had gotten caught... and been shown a very clear sign of apparent disinterest and disloyalty by his own son when milo had fled the scene and left him to the police. before that particular experience had been added to his arsenal, milo hadn't known that it was possible to be able to remember a small fragment of time so vivdily. the few minutes he had spent running all out through several of billings's back alleys, away from the only family he had that was speaking to him, and, in retrospect, probably literally away from his old life, were imprinted ridiculously clearly in milo's mind. even today, as he lay on his bed in the large house of his ridiculously wealthy relatives, wrapped around a girl he was in love with, he could see it and feel it, the cold not-quite-spring air, the adrenaline and fear coursing through him, the lights from windows that passed him in flashes as he ran, the sounds of police sirens fading behind him.
he still sometimes had nightmares about those few, tiny minutes of his life. and just those, usually. days that followed never showed up in his dreams, though they were home to some quite scary moments as well. they were fairly frought with fear that the cops would figure out that milo had been involved in the illegal stuff his father had been doing. however, he had apparently done a pretty good, albeit subconscious, job of covering his tracks because, as far as he knew, the police didn't have any idea that he was even involved. milo's role had been mostly in choreographing the stuff that required planning, his father and several of their "employees" had been the ones to do most of the more hands on work. god, it was so weird even thinking about it... it seemed to him that the milo who had been becoming so enthusiastic about trading illicit substances was a person that he didn't even know; someone he had met once or twice and had become just a vague memory.
but he supposed he couldn't be too incredulous about the changes he had undergone, because there seemed to have been even more of them since moving to valkyrie and meeting sophie. since he had gotten closer to her, he didn't know, something changed. the world just seemed a bit less awful and there just seemed to be less need to be afraid of so many things. and his stutter had decreased dramatically. he was still, of course, the shy, reserved, rather awkward dorky boy he had always been, that hadn't completely changed, and what did he care? he hadn't ever really cared that much... because though he had sometimes wished he could have been like the charismatic, uber confident, slightly cocky water polo players... he always knew that he was more comfortable the way he was. sure, it had been really frustrating that he could hardly talk to a girl, let alone a girl he liked, or well, to strangers or people who made him uncomfortable - and there were a lot of them - but, it hadn't ever been so bad that he really badly wanted to become a whole new person for more than a few fleeting moments. like a big arrogant water polo player, for example.
and now he was perfectly satisfied as long as sophie preferred him over all those water poloers. because when she was around, not much else mattered. not even his dislike of movies such as the one that was currently being displayed on his bedroom's tv screen.
sophie craned her neck to look at him and milo returned the gaze, finding her quite a lot more interesting than the movie. "i know this really isn't your kind of movie. but thanks." she kissed his jaw and he smiled. "no worries." because, let's face it, it was impossible not to be happy right now. "besides..." she hitched her slender leg over his own, which rather jerked him into a more aware and alert state, as he hadn't really been expecting things to have taken a turn like this during the middle of the movie she had wanted to see. "milo jr. gets jealous really easy. he's probably be kicking your ass right now." she brought her hand up from his chest and ran it through his hair, which, for some odd reason, brought to mind a flash of the memory of time forever ago that he and petros had died it dirty blonde. "it wounds me that you think that the tan, fat, rabbit version of myself could kick my ass," he said, grinning. it was pretty amusing to imagine such a scenario, but when she shifted herself over so that she was on top of him, he found that his ability to think about anything about the situation at hand became extremely impaired. "love you." she paired the words with a quick peck on the lips and he simply smiled up at her for a moment, the woes of a widowed hilary swank playing on unnoticed on the television before them. "i love you too," he said, reaching up to sweep some rogue strands of her brown hair behind her ear. the words reminded him of the fateful moment he had first said them to her, at valkyrie academy's homecoming dance, on the floor of the girl's restroom.
he brought his face forward so that his lips met hers in a kiss longer than their most previous one. "are you losing interest in poor hilary swank?" he asked with when he pulled away, a small smile on his face. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - STATUS finished. ----SOPHIE HAD NEVER HAD A SERIOUS relationship before. she use to be a lot like petros. expect she wasn't a boy and wasn't so much of a womanizer... if that made sense. with petros, his flings were meant to get publicized. her older brother liked to see himself in the magazines. tabloids exploited his relationships and petros only gloated. the more publicity he got, the happier he was. he was a famewhore to the max. petros had his ladies and he had demitri and isaac. they were like europe's rat pack. they liked the attention and all the benefits fame got them. whether they were really famous or not, because they really never did anything. they weren't actors or sports stars. sophie liked to see them as professional partiers. sophie on the other hand rarely found herself dating someone. long-distance ones rarely worked out. traveling made it hard. in addition to that, there was also the wild parties and all the pictures that came from it. sophie wasn't a cheater, nor would she ever. she took relationships seriously. they just became harder to maintain when you were in different countries every week,
her father always called her the dreamer of the family. she had big eyes and a thirst for adventure. if it wasn't for her father, she probably would still be in greece. her father, orion, had a heart attack at the beginning of the summer. that was the reason why sophie and petros had to leave america so suddenly. that, and because their mother found out that sophie wasn't with grandma, but in american with petros. when she wasn't doing work for her mother, sophie was always at her father's bedside. she'd tell him about this wonderful boy she met in valkyrie. her father was always a great listener. she couldn't talk to petros about him since petros knew him, was friends with him, and then later hated him. she couldn't with her mom becase her mother was livid about sophie being in america. her father though, a big teddy bear he was and always made time for his kids. some might find it weird that she was talking to her father about milo, but it wasn't ike anything happened between milo and her. before the summer, their relationship was the beginning of something great. orion was all about following your heart. somehow, he convinced eleni to allow sophie to finish high school in california. petros, not far behind. because of that, sophie and milo only got closer. with those three little words said during the homecoming dance. everything got better after that.
sophie didn't believe that you could spend too much time with someone. she thought, if you had something good going for you, you don't want to waste it away. who knows if the next week they'd die of brain cancer, right? if this movie was teacher he anything about life and death, it was that you needed to enjoy every little bit about the person you were with. sophie knew that hilary swank wasn't expecting gerard butler to die just like that? they had just been arguing in the beginning of the movie, about how they wanted kids, and to move out of their apartment. now there was nothing to argue about because he wasn't there anymore. she carried his urn around like it was her purse and she saw him everywhere.
"it wounds me that you think that the tan, fat, rabbit version of myself could kick my ass," she looked at him. "the difference between you and milo jr. is that you can't hurt a fly. you should see what fatty does to petros. he leaves him presents all the time." she pointed her index finger at milo. "and not the fun kind." if she had a nickle for everytime petros woke up yelling about milo jr. pooping in his bed, sophie could start her own trust fund. milo pulled some of her fallen strands of hair behind her ear. it was still shorter. petros thought it was drastic that once she was in greece, she cut her signature longer locks for an off-the-shoulder 'do. her mother wasn't very happy either. sophie had just been so sad and upset. at the time, she also believed she would be in greece for the last year of school. she had just wanted to start fresh. cutting her hair seemed to be a good solution. it had been really short. shorter than any style she had had in the past. but now, it was growing out again. her hair was right at her shoulders now, it still felt weird since she was use to the length being past her shoulders. his face met hers and he gave her longer kiss than the one she had given him. she closed her eyes and smiled against his lips. "are you losing interest in poor hilary swank?" sophie gave a side grin and looked up, past him and more at the wall behind him. she bit her bottom lip and said, "maybe..." sophie adjusted her body weight a little so that she could kneel. still straddling him, she pulled her purple cardigan off and ran a hand through her hair before she bent back over and kissed him on the lips again. her cool hands slipped under his cotton shirt, touching his bare torso. yeah... she wanted to. this was what you did when you loved someone, right?
