i swear that you don't have to go--- i thought we could wait for the fireworks !i thought we could wait for the snow ! • • • • • ---Hair? Check. Clothes? Check. Supplies? Check. Well, it seemed like he was all set, and though his interest in school was deteriorating quick than a car in some sort of toxic acid, he was feeling surprisingly pleasant about attending that day. Very confident. It would be a good day, that much he was sure of. He grabbed his haggard old backpack, slung it over his shoulder, and walked into the hallways of his cozy little house in the shaks. That was when he saw his newly found sister, Seriah, walk right past his room, wearing pajamas, no make-up, and her hair was unflatteringly mangled like she'd gotten in a fight with a lion, "Are you going to school like that?" Teddy asked her a little incredulously. She must be sick or something. She snorted in response, "Oh, right. Jess and Harry weren't here to tell you. Have you looked outside, my friend? No school," she sounded sarcastic and mocking, but at least she held back the bitterness when she was speaking to him. For a second he thought she was joking, but she just lounged in the kitchen, taking her time to make herself some food. Sera was usually the one dragging him out the door. She had some weird obsessive-compulsive-disorder about being late. The boy trotted over to the front door, pulled it open, and was surprised with the splendid, and incredibly insane view.
---Snow. Everywhere. Falling form the sky, flaking across his lawn. People were out marvelling in it. He jogged out like the rest of those California natives and threw his head back, laughing. It was a chilly though, the temperature significantly lower than he was accustomed to. Time for a change of clothes. He made his way back into the house, and saw Seriah again, staring at the TV like nothing in the world was so exotic or amazing about the rarity going on outdoors, "Hey nerd, aren't you going to go out and jump around? It's snowing." She just looked at him, a droll expression on her face, "I'm from New York. I'm used to snow. This would have been my first winter without it... ever... and so I'm kind of unhappy that apparently I have yet to witness a snowless winter." Oh right. He'd forgotten she was from the East Coast. Still... Teddy shrugged. He wasn't going to force her to enjoy it. Whatever made her happy, he supposed, because seeing her happy was something he loved... though it wasn't something she outwardly expressed too often.
---It only donned on him after he'd come back downstairs, dressed in clothes he wore when his family took him snowboarding or something. They were really the only snow-productive apparel he owned. Anyway, he remembered one of his prized possessions he'd left at the school. His guitar. Damn it. What if they went straight to winter break after this little extraordinary fit of flakes falling from the overcast sky? The instrument wasn't his life, but it sure was nice to have when he wasn't doing much, or when they had to go to a Grandparent's house. Plus... what if it got stolen? It was a nice guitar, if he did say so himself. There was no way in hell he was going to leave it in that school for possible the next couple weeks. Plus, what else did he have to do today? Not much at all. He went back to the living room, grabbed the car keys, and went towards the door. "Where are you going?" Sera muttered disintrestedly. "Left my guitar at the school," Her visage became amused, "You would go to school on a day there is no school..."
Teddy rolled his eyes, "Shut up," and walked out the door. ---The traffic was surprisingly busy. People must have been coming home from work, and kids who were already at school must have been returning. Was everything closing for the day? It was brilliant, the weather. Teddy wasn't much fond of cold weather, because well, he hated being cold. So it wasn't like he would ever move somewhere that had extreme winters. He also liked snowboarding, and if it was coming down here, then it was getting even better on the mountains. The surprise sent from the North Pole right now, however, was nice. He didn't mind it at all, especially with the rarity of the occasion. How often have you ever heard of snow falling in southern California? It was a long shot, and he was pretty much loving it. Everybody he saw seemed to be enjoying themselves. Sure, a few negative nelly's looked displeased, but random snowfall wasn't going to start world peace and send everybody into a state of bliss. Now snowy SoCal looked like a common thing compared to those sort of expectations. ---The academy finally came into sight. Hopefully it was open or Teddy was going to be rather annoyed he'd come all this way for nothing. There was always a way to get in though, so this wasn't going to be a waste, he was determined to make sure of that. After parking his car near the front of the school, he went and tried to open the door... and it was open. There was one kid who must have been there for zero period or something waiting inside. They were probably waiting for him to leave before they closed up. The boy jogged down the halls, trying to keep quiet so he wouldn't really have to run into anybody and waste his time confronting them about what he was doing here. He was sure if they knew that all he wanted was his guitar, well then they couldn't end up too mad, but for some odd reason, he felt like he was doing something wrong, or breaking the rules. It made him a little jumpy. ---The boy fond his way to the artsy wing of the academy. The guitar was in the music room closet, he figured. The janitor let him keep it there because he kind of liked just practicing on the auditrium stafe after hours, something not many people at all were aware of. But the acoustics were btter there than in his small, cluttered room, so if he had the opportunity, he sure as hell was going to take it. Teddy made his way into the music room. Empty. That was good, nobody to explain to. He went straight to the closet and opened it up. There was the large black case where his instrument was cocooned safely. He couldn't help but break into a smile, mission accomplished. Slinging the case onto his shoulder, he made his way towards the classroom door. He wanted to go do something now. Maybe he and Sera could go skating or something. The day was looking bright and good. [/blockquote][/blockquote] • • • • •

------------------------------------------
------ When Maidel Avraham moved to Valkyrie, California from New York City, she knew there was most definitely one thing she was going to miss over all: The Seasons. New York had hot summers, cool falls, cold winters, and rainy springs. But the best part to experience the seasons was Central Park. She lived in Flushing, Queens so it was not that hard to get there. Central park was the most amazing thing. In the summer it was brimming with vibrant colors and sounds everywhere, music and street venders, animal and mary-go-rounds, festivals and blue skies. In the fall, all the leaves change for the most amazing blend of oranges, yellows and reds. The air cool and crisp and the smell of apple cider floats around, teasing your nose, carmel apples, picnics. In the spring there were buds on the trees, kids in red rain coats and big plastic boots jumping in puddles. But it was Central Park in the winter was her favorite. It was the only spot in the city where the snow wasn't instantly turned into greyish brown sludge from the millions of taxi's and town cars. It was like a winter wonderland. White freshly fallen snow on the bare branches of the trees, kids making snow angels and having snowball fights as their parents take a ride on one of the horse drawn carriages, wrapped in a warm blanket together drinking hot coco as they go under the tunnel. Central Park in winter was one of the most magical places May had ever seen. Her mother had never let her go with friends but she had gone with a group from Temple. She had gone with her mother. And when she snuck out, Central Park was always her first stop.
------ Although, if there was one thing, May knew about winter time, it was that it could be violent and dangerous too. One time she had snuck out of the house to go to the park in Winter, she hadn't told her mother obviously so she was not warned that a blizzard was on the way. When the storm hit, she could barely walk because of the winds and she couldn't see five feet in front of her from the thick cloud of snowflakes. A park ranger found her thankfully, and when she got home she was put into her punishment closet which was like a little dark room with a stool in it that was in the back of her closet. She was locked in there when her mom went out too. Easier than a babysitter I guess. But she was put back there and wasn't allowed out until she had done 2000 lines in on of her mead notebooks. When the snow was so violent, it was anything but beautiful, it was terrifying. Had the ranger not found her, who knows if she would have found her way home? But the one thing she never ever expected to see when living in California with her Dad's side of the family, was snow falling from the sky. A couple days ago the weatherman had mentioned a storm coming there way but everyone thought it was just going to be a big thunderstorm but the temperatures dropped and the heavens opened up in order to make a snow globe effect.
------ It amused May because as soon as the snow began to fall the Californian world got flipped upside down and everything closed down. They just weren't prepared. It wasn't even that bad out. At least not yet. May didn't really realize that the harshest part of the storm wasn't going to hit for a few more hours. But with the school closed, it presented May with a small problem. She had a paper due in a week and she had left all of her notes and books from the library in her locker. She needed to work on it and she couldn't. But come on, May was a New Yorker, she could handle a bit of snow. Her big puffy winter coat was still packed away as well as her boots but she could handle it. She had a coat and winter wear accessories to keep warm. She smiled a bit as she looked out the window at the snow coming down. It looked beautiful and after the pool party, which as a side note yes she went to and oh my goodness it was so cool to be able to go I mean it was exciting and against the rules. You can ask people, May doesn't break the rules... anyways, despite it being really cool that she got to go, it was not fun. As soon as she got there she found out that Tommy showing interest in her was because of a bet he had going with Tristan to take her virginity in Vegas. A bet, for the record, that he lost. He didn't even get close to winning. She understood it may not look that way since she had been making out with him on a bed, another thing she never did but was exciting, while drunk, first time drunk too, and yeah she passed out on him but she would never had gone the whole way. Not even drunk. That was the one thing she wasn't rushing to try. That was going to someone she loved and while she really really liked Tommy, she wasn't in love with him.
------ She was hurt though. She nodded, touching the glass slightly as if she were gently pushing off of it before turning around and pulling her coat on over her long sleeved thermal shirt. She wrapped her scarf around her neck and buttoned up the coat in order for it to be in their cozy as she pulled on her knit hat and mittens as Sarai came down in all her gorgeousness, even bundled more for the cold weather. May smiled as they told Lev they were leaving headed outside. May took a deep breath as the cold hit her face (and legs). But couldn't help but close her eyes and enjoy it for a moment, the snowflakes immediately being caught in her dark brown hair. Sarai had to go to the hospital to work, they were worried about the roads and the snow and drivers who aren't used to it, which is fair, but it meant she was going to drop May off at the school. May was going to catch the bus home, which she was fine with. It's how she usually got around. May waved good bye to Sarai as she shut the car door and watched as her older sister drove off. May smiled and turned towards the school. She walked up the steps of the main building, careful not to slip and went to the door on the far left which was kept open for Zero hour classes. She pulled it open using most of her body to do so as the wind was picking up. It felt like it was getting harsher fast. She sure hoped coming there wasn't a mistake. She sighed as the door slammed shut behind and shook a bit to help dust the snowflakes off her. She wiped her feet against the matting in the front before stepping forward into the main hall. The school looked so empty. It was... it was intimidating being here when it was so quiet. It felt grand, epic and lonely. She pulled off her mittens and pushed them into her coat pockets as she unbuttoned the coat, too warm, she kept it on though.
------ May found her way to her locker on the other side of the building near the art wing. She spun in the combination and pulled the lock off before frowning a bit. Her books were here but where were her notes? She pushed a few things around, standing on her tip toes for a better view but not seeing them. She pursed her lips a bit as she got back down on her heels and thought for a moment. Where else could they be? She did use that notebook for voice and theatre class too. She put her books in resting in her arm as she shut her locker. Might as well check the music and theatre rooms now that she was here. She walked down the hall turning towards the music room's door, reaching out to open it as it opened on her own scaring the living daylights out of her as she gasped and dropped the books onto the floor causing a loud thud in the empty halls. "Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry, you startled me." She apologized quickly. "I just wasn't expecting many others to be here and wasn't watching, tad bit of a shlemiel" She added, slightly rambling as she did as she apologized. She leaned down to grab her books. She smiled as she stood back up, books in hand and she saw the guitar case on his shoulder. Grinning she pointed to it, "You play?"

i swear that you don't have to go--- i thought we could wait for the fireworks !i thought we could wait for the snow ! • • • • • ---Teddy wasn’t exactly sure why on earth Seriah had been so stingy about him coming back to school to retrieve his guitar. She knew it was pretty much his favorite pastime, and in all reality, it wasn’t going to be all that hard to retrieve it from an empty school. Running through the empty hallways he had began to wonder how many teachers were even patrolling or clearing out their class rooms. The boy was beginning to think that the only people left in the deserted building was the office staff, who were probably, and unfortunately, stuck here for a while longer. Teddy wasn’t thinking too much about pity though. He wanted to grab his possession and make a run for it. There were a lot better things to do on a snow day in California than be stuck in an empty school building; that much he would admit. So he’d trotted his way intot he music room, attained his guitar, and decided it was a success. Sera had no reason to be so uptight about his leaving; he wasn’t trapped or murdered or spontaneously killed by a rogue bus driver or kidnapped. Sure, he still had the ride home to get through, but the kid was pretty positive that he’d be relatively safe. It was so strange to see the school empty and quiet. Normally it was buzzing with gossip or people were going on about something SS had posted. Teddy almost liked it, almost. It was a bit to eerie and sketchy for his tastes. So it was better to just get the hell out of there. He went to leave the music room, opening the door, and then a loud crash echoed through the hallway. Okay, so maybe he was going to be the victim of a homicide. But like the stupid people in horror films who follow the scary noises and are always the first to die, Teddy opened the door further, peeking out of it. It was just a girl. She was picking up her books which she had dropped that made such a loud racket. Teddy slipped out the door so he was in front of her, just watching her retrieve her rather large stack. The girl stood up and started apologizing like she’d just committed a sin in Jesus’ presence or something, talking pretty eccentrically and then throwing in some gibberish at the end. It all sounded like another language to Theodore Kingsley though. He couldn’t hear a word she said, couldn’t focus on anything of the present moment. The kid had been sucked back into the thoughts of months ago, like the end of last school year. They ravaged his mind, making him remember. For moments, he was in complete shock. This was a girl he’d never expected to see again as long as he lived. Of all places, how could she be here? He wasn’t sure if he was going to throw up or burst with joy. He had thought she was dead. This girl he’d met across the country. He knew her face only all too well.
---It was Maidel Avraham.
---It happened months ago, at the end of spring/beginning of summer time period. It had been prior to school letting out when he’d received a letter from a mysterious girl claiming she was his long lost twin sister and needed his help. He’d been very wary of the letter, thinking it was some sort of scam, but of course his martyr of a mother was gun-ho to go find out what the story was behind this Seriah Worthington and why she’d needed help. So they caught the next flight to New York City, and were off. Upon arrival at Seriah’s home, they were greeted by a burly police man. He let them peek into the apartment, seeing the caution tape and blood smeared on the wall in the kitchen. Apparently it was an abusive household, the father had just been taken into custody earlier that day and the girl was in the hospital. Last he heard, she’d been unconscious still. Teddy was disturbed, and took a walk by himself around the streets, not really sure where he had been going. That was when he met May. She was a sweet girl who he had connected to almost immediately. She was smart, funny, cute, all those typical things… but most importantly, she made him forget about the horror of what he’d just seen. So Teddy walked her home, promised they’d see each other again before he went back home, and then made his way back to where the abused girl’s apartment was. His parents were waiting by the car, and then they went to go meet this Seriah. In the hospital he saw the new stitches aligned down the scratch on the back of her head. She was sleeping restlessly, and finally woke up, terrified, and had a panic attack to see all these random people in her room. After she’d calmed down though, it was made clear that she was Teddy’s long lost sister and they did blood tests to prove it. That was a bit shocking as well. His mother stayed with the girl and took care of her that night while Teddy and his father got a hotel to sleep in. The next day he’d gone back to see May, only to have the door answered by her mother, who claimed May had fallen down the stairs and was in the hospital. Teddy already had the abusive parents ideal fresh in him mind, that alone making him rather paranoid, but there was also some other contributing factors that had made him suspicious of May’s mother’s story. Jessica, his mother, had just met Seriah, and she wouldn’t leave her bedside. May’s mother, on the other hand, seemed completely careless and wasn’t with May. That made him wary. So as soon as he’d walked around the corner of where she’d lived, Teddy called the police and told. It turned out his hunch was right. May’s mother had been just as bad as Seriah’s father, though he probably won out on the demented side. She’d made the girl write thousands of sentences in notebooks and everything. Teddy was absolutely sickened. What the hell was wrong with this city? He was dying to return to Valkyrie. He visited May, but she was in a coma. He’d left that night and never went back to the NYC since. Jessica checked in the hospital for him to see how May was doing when she’d gone back for Seriah’s trials, but the nurse said she was “gone,” and thus Teddy had thought she’d died.
---Here she was though, alive and healthy, gorgeous as ever. Teddy broke into a charming grin and gave her a bear hug, probably knocking her books over again. Then he stepped back, his eyes wide. She didn’t really seem to recognize him, or remember him even, ”Sorry,” he muttered, wondering if she’d recognize him at all, ”I just, you… And then I thought…”
he stumbled over his words like the nerdy boy talking to the cheerleader in a movie. He wasn’t sure what to say, what was there to say? I mean, did she loose her memory or something? What did that coma end up doing to her? She seemed okay, but how much did she remember, exactly? Should he tell her if she didn’t remember? She seemed happy. Did he want to disturb that? Maybe it would just take him a few seconds to recognize him. She asked him a question though, which helped him feel more relaxed, ”Yes, guitar. Yeah, I uh, I play.” He smiled at her genuinely, ”Do you?” he retorted. [/blockquote][/blockquote] • • • • • TAGGED.meddy <3 STATUS.complete! ------------------------------------------
------ May didn't talk about her mother often. To be honest, she tried her best not to think about her much either because when she did it all became so confusing. Everything that had happened had been a bit normalized to May. It's not that she enjoyed the striking control her mother had over her life, but since she knew nothing else, she hadn't looked at it as harshly as say the cops did. To May the lines were life. She hated them but were used to them. She never got used to the cabinet-like closet she was locked in though. The darkness constantly gave her nightmares. Even now she slept with the lights on. And despite all that and maybe the occasional bruise, Maidel Avraham actually missed her mother. She missed having someone who was around her whole life. She missed her mother's rare but encouraging smiles. She missed singing in Temple. She missed seeing her mother actually, astoundingly be proud of her as she sung in temple in hebrew. She even missed Hebrew school a bit. I guess it was just change May had a hard time with. And the thought of her mom locked in a cell scared her a bit I don't want to say she didn't care about what her mother did, she did. She had been put into a coma because she decided it was okay to talk to some random boy, or at least that's what she had been told. She couldn't really remember the few days leading up to her hospital stay. She couldn't even remember the fight that lead to her mother's imprisonment... Needless to say, that hurt her.
------ May enjoyed being in Valkyrie. She adored her sisters. She liked her father. May had not had as much time with him. Sarai, her oldest half sister, was angry with her father. Apparently he kept screwing up. He kept trying though so it's not like she hated him. But for the sake of less awkwardness, May had been living with Sarai since she arrived in Valkyrie. But May felt bad because May hadn't told Sarai about her mother or why May was sent here to her father whom she never knew existed. It was just something that was hard to tell others. She was already dropping the "i'm you illegitimate half sister" bomb on them, she didn't need to cause them more worry. Nor had she told Sarai about the bet. I guess when Sarai took her in, she became the adult in May's life and May had gotten into the practice of not tell the adults in her life much about anything. She didn't have an easy time trusting those guardian type figures in her life. She was just too scared of being locked in the dark again. Logic told her Sarai was not like that but her instincts told her to let well enough alone and don't let her know, don't tell her anything, or it will all go to hell again, and it will all be your fault again.
------ Theodore "Teddy" Kingsley was connected to all of this. He was the catalyst in her mom being sent to jail. He was the one who her mother saw her talking to and why her mother went so crazy angry. Boys were forbidden. She was not allowed to talk to boys when there wasn't supervision. Especially not ones that weren't from good, wholesome Jewish families. But as he stood before her, rather towering above her. Wow he was tall. But as he towered above her, May had no inkling to their shared history. I mean, maybe part of her recognized him just a small amount. That sort of, why do you look familiar feeling you can get when you meet someone. Perhaps that may have tickled her brain for a mili-second or two but she didn't know the boy standing in front of her so when she was swooped into a big bear hug by the stranger, she was nothing short of confused. She tensed slightly, as being hugged by strangers was not something she was used to. She was just happy she was able to keep her books in her hands, swooping them to the side. May's eyes looked around for a brief moment before she used he free hand to pat his back as if to say 'okay that's enough'. But instead she said awkwardly "Yeah... nice to meet you too." She took a deep breath as the extremely tall, dark haired boy let go of her, leaning forward slightly to catch the books in her right hand before the fell out of balance.
------ May looked up at the boy as he tried to explain himself, tripping over his words a bit. ”Sorry, I just, you… And then I thought…” May looked at him confused but let a smile grow. She shook her head, "It's okay don't worry about it. No harm done." She said honestly. She didn't really care. He hadn't felt her up, or anything, just a hug. A strangely timed hug but still, just a hug. ”Yes, guitar. Yeah, I uh, I play.” May smiled, awesome. May, if you didn't already know, was just a bit of a music lover. She looked up from staring at the guitar case as he asked if she played it too. She chuckled slightly, "No, I wish." She replied, "I can play the piano but not too well... I'm more of a singer I guess." She added. She tried to be modest but if there was one thing she knew she was good at, it was singing. She loved it with all her heart and soul and she was good. She was very good. May peered around the boy slightly before giving an awkward laugh, "Um... I do kind of have to get something from in there though." She added kindly, nodding towards the music room to which they were kind of blocking the entrance to.

i swear that you don't have to go--- i thought we could wait for the fireworks !i thought we could wait for the snow ! • • • • • ---Teddy wasn't apart of some tragic childhood story. He wasn't abused, or kidnapped, or had parents who fought, no dead siblings, mom and dad both alive. Hell, his dog he's had since he was eight was still kicking alive and well. The boy really was just unexposed to any sort of interesting, exciting story that made him who he is today. He was, however, surrounded by people who had gone through those awful things that no child should ever endure. His child hood friends had parents or siblings die, one parent or the other abandon them, grow up abused... It was not uncommon, and yet so many people were oblivious to the cruelties of everyday society. Some valk kids were totally unaware of how bad things could get in the shaks... and then there were the shak kids who didn't realize that just because those valk kids were rich didn't mean they had a perfect life. There were ups and downs with the rich and the poor. Teddy had seen his fair share of violence with loved ones, and it only ever made the kid more and more grateful for the wonderful life he was blessed with. Being biased, of course, he was sure he had perfect parents. They rarely argued unless it was over something serious, they made enough money where they were to a point that they weren't struggling, his sister was reunited with him, and he had a good thing going in school and sports and music and academics even. He wasn't much involved in drama, though he did sit on the sidelines when it happend a lot because of who he hung out with and they parties he attended. Teddy really was the type of kid who was everybody's friend though. So nobody really ever blamed anything on him or started a fight or pulled him into one. He was in a blissful place, to be honest, and he was hoping it wouldn't change. Sure, things had been a little crazy since last spring when he found out about Seriah and met May, but it wasn't so dramatic that his life was going to spin out of his control. It was just shocking. He'd even almost come to terms with never seeing Maidel Avraham again, though that obviously was not the case.
---In reality, Teddy had thought May was dead. It was a pessimistic view for somebody like him, but the way his mom said the nurse put it made it sound like she had passed on. It was probaby the darkest time he'd gone through, the first time he'd ever really known somebody who died. But shortly after Sera came to live with him and his parents, and he got over it and embraced the welcoming of his long lost twin sister. He wasn't going to sit around and cut his wrists over some girl he'd just met. Yeah, he was sad and mourned and cared about her as much as possible between strangers, but she wasn't somebody he was completely attached to, so he moved on, just like most people would have. Though, he hadn't dated a girl since he'd met Maidel. So if that was some sort of subconscious way of saying he still hadn't gotten over it, that was the only sign. He'd even heard rumors in the locker room of a "May" who was a virgin who dressed like a five year old, as they put it, and it was some sort of unofficial competition to see who could get into her pants first. Teddy had never really been that typeof guy so he wasn't all that interested, and while it sounded like "Avraham" was the girl's last name they were talking about, he'd never dreamed of finding her again here in Valkyrie, so he'd never even considered it. But now, apparently, she was that girl. He could see why they made comments about her clothing choices... but he liked it. She wasn't dressed like an overexpensive hooker, and it was respectable. Plus, if anybody could pull it off, of course it'd be her. He shook his head a little fervently, almost positive he'd been just staring at her with an awed expression that might come off as an obsessive-stalker-vibe... and he really didn't want her to think badly of him, even if it was over something as silly as a look he'd given her. It was May. Maidel Avraham. Was God trying to get them to be friends or what? Because what were the odds she, of all people, would end up in his hometown, healthy... happy... and having no freaking idea who the hell he was.
---A sudden anger rolled through his body, something that didn't happen all too often. Thos jack asses in the locker room were trying to steal her virginity? That was messed up. And now everything was clicking into his mind, piece by piece. So the bet... about that Tommy Ambrose kid he'd seen around pretty often... the May in that bet... it was this May, wasn't it? Scumbag. Teddy definitely lost respect for a lot of people after that moment just now when he'd realized everything. It was haunting to be here with this girl he'd had nightmares about. Part of him was so convinced it was all a dream, and the other part was just plain shocked. Was it really her? Of course it was. But.. how? He began feeling more and more awkward after the completely out of line hug he'd thrown at her. Poor girl seemed confused, but at least she was polite about it. He always remembered her being nice as could be. She seemed a lot cooler about recieving a hug from a stranger, well sort of a stranger, than most people would have been. "Still, I'm sorry,"
he muttered sheepishly, wondering what alternate universe he was in to be thrown into the surprising, fateful meeting. She began speaking seemingly comfortably about music, and he felt a little more at ease. At least he could relate. She was a singer? Well he'd kind of know that. They'd talked a little about it when he'd met her, but for now Teddy decided to play stupid unti he found out her exact situation, "A singer? Sweet. Sing something right now," he chuckled slightly, not really expecting her to do it. He was feeling a bit giddy, but could you blame him? She then informed him she was indeed going into the music room for a reason. Well duh, he should have known. She couldn't have been hanging out in the empty school for fun, "Oh, right," he muttered, moving to the side quietly. He grabbed the handle and pulled the door open for her. He wasn't just going to leave though. Yeah, right. "What brings you here on a snow day, anyway?" Lame and typical, but he needed to keep talking to her. He couldn't find the heart to just walk away, not yet. [/blockquote][/blockquote] • • • • • TAGGED.meddy <3 STATUS.complete! WORDCOUNT. 1,260 SETTING.valkyrie academy, morning, snow day! ------------------------------------------
------ The reason she went by May instead of Maidel was not because she disliked her name. It was because of the emphasis her mother used for it. Maidel was a name that meant untouched woman, unmarried virgin. As if May hadn't gotten the message from her mother's strict rules and constant horror stories of the evils of pre-marital sex. I'm serious, May had known practically nothing about sex when she first came here. She knew that penetration had to take place but that was about it, OH and she knew what Oral was from another kid in the school telling her. She thought it sounded a bit gross but then again, who doesn't think it's gross before they actually try it? Her mother had taken her out of every sex education offered in the school claiming it went against their religious beliefs but here's the deal, May went to Hebrew school, everyone there was Jewish. It made no sense. May knew what it was about, she had always known what it was about. It was about her mother. And her insane guilt over sleeping with a man before marriage that turned her from a woman with strict faith to an abuser. It was sad. Gosh, sad seemed like such a tiny word without more adjectives attached but that's what it was. It was sad. May loved her mother. She always had and she always will. She just could not live with the woman anymore. She had always know what her mother was doing was wrong, she just never said anything because she couldn't bring herself to act out against the woman. She was still her mother after all. Now that someone else had, she was stronger to as well. May was going to be much stronger now. She had to be.
------ May had been told that boy reported it, but she hadn't been told anything else about him. But she owed him a great deal. Or at least, she thought she did. May was hurt that her mother was locked up but at the same time, this boy, whoever he was, had provided May with an opportunity to live her life. Truly live it. . One thing her mother had let her do, as long as the songs and themes were deemed appropriate and she wasn't playing any character with a love interest, was musical theatre. Which really meant she played side characters and sung at Temple. It was one of the few times her mother actually seemed proud of her. But that was besides the point. Here, just maybe she might have a chance to play lead. Be in the spotlight for once, singing her heart out. Just her and the lights and the song. Oh, and the audience more than probably. Stage fright was like a foreign language to her. May didn't think there was anywhere else in the world where she feels more comfortable or will ever feel more comfortable than she did standing on that stage. Nor did she ever feel so free to be herself. But that's not all she wanted. Maidel wanted to try everything. She wanted to do all the living she missed out on when she was locked in her mother's form of prison.
------ May had tried a lot of things since coming here. She had gone to Vegas. She had gotten drunk. She had gone to parties. She had made out with a boy that looked like he belonged in a magazine. She had been betrayed and bet on simply because she wanted to keep her virginity hers. But whatever, she wasn't going to let one guy ruin everything she had going here. After all, it was him who was really hurt by everything that went down. Tommy just fed his own disease by hurting her. She still prayed for him, hoping he grew up better one day. She also wanted to make sure she wasn't tainted by it. She didn't want to be suspicious of liars every time she met someone new. Not every one here could be a liar. It wasn't feasible. May was just one of those people. She tended to always wear a smile and no matter how tense a situation, she tried her best to be what the other person wanted her to be, whether that be the ultra polite and refined or the goof singing along to Disney movies. She loved being that person so no, she wasn't bitter about it. Maybe it was the way she needed to be to get through everything that had happened. Maybe it was a self defense mechanism to any awkward situation. Who knew? Who cares? It was easy for her to do most of the time. She focused on the positive.
------ Although, even she was having a hard time figuring out what was so frickin' positive that this exceptionally tall boy had to be thinking about when he hugged a complete stranger. She smiled as he apologized again. She simply shrugged, again, it was really nothing. "Well, thanks I guess." She replied to his apology. She didn't know what else to say. "A singer? Sweet. Sing something right now," May gave a short nervous laugh, there was no way she could right now. One on one attention makes her nervous. She smiled, "Yeah.. one on one attention makes me nervous." She said with a small laugh. Surprisingly she did not feel awkward in this situation as many others would. She felt fine. Like it was completely normal to be in an abandoned school with a complete stranger who just hugged her in a snow storm in southern california. She nodded a thank you as he opened the door up for her and stepped to the side. May stepped into the large music room and went straight for the seat she usually occupied and leaned down pulling a red notebook from underneath.
------ She mentally thanked god for the notebook being there when she heard the boy's voice again. "What brings you here on a snow day, anyway?" May lifted her notebook into the air, holding it above her head before placing it in her arms with the others, "These, I have a project due soon, I'm behind and I figured if there's no school today, I would have a good chance to catch up." She replied before raising an eyebrow at him, "What about you? Leave your guitar or something?" She asked as she stepped closer to him. She smiled and shook her head a bit, "Sorry, I'm rude," She put her hand out to him, "I'm May." She stated, excited she no longer introduced herself as Maidel. Small triumphs of strength meant something to the young Jewish girl.
