SECRETS:
•Well, she’s connected/a part of the Italian mafia. The school board probably wouldn’t be all too happy with that little bit of information.
•She had planned on committing suicide after her daughter was born, and even though she didn't, she is incredinly ashame of ever even considering it.
BEST MEMORY:
•Her best memory was probably when Arietta was born and she moved back to Valkyrie to live with her family since she was begining to feel disconnected from them. Those were her personal dark ages, but the life of that little girl bringing brought into it made it significantly better.
WORST MEMORY:
•Well, definitely when her fiancee was killed in the war. It's a little shocking to be standing on your doorstep and see two military officials walking up to meet her. So that either meant it had something to do with her last name, or something bad happened out on the front, and she wasn't quite sure which would be worse, honestly. But it was her beloved who died, and that started a new chapter in her life.
OVERALL PERSONALITY:
cora had always been a two-sided coin, not quite a girl you could figure out all at once. she's like a walking contradictory in some aspects of her personality, never really doing what anybody expects, even when it is the people who know her best making the expectations. she's always been something of a wild card, you never know quite what you'll get, though you can narrow it down to something lively and spontaneous. and yet, she manages to be calm and collected as well. it all really depends on her mood and the situation she is in, so unless you're as familiar with her as you are the back of your hand, she is fairly unpredictable and an adventure just to acquaint yourself with.
the giovanni girl has always been very determined and focused. she studies hard and seriously, not allowing anything to distract her from her goals. like school, for example, she doesn't let distractions and events get in the way of her grades or her aspirations to become a teacher. she isn't somebody you can sway from their chosen path all too easily, because once cora makes up her mind, she usually ends up going through with whatever she has decided on. she sets her sights on personal goals and doesn't look in any other direction that straight forward. she's always been somebody with straight priorities and who knows what she wants.
while she may be young, cora is surprisingly very philosophical and intelligent. she sees things very clearly, looking passed all the lies and seeing write into the heart of things. she tends to be able to give advice and know things that seem a bit beyond her years. it helps her relate very well to people and be able to help others with their problems and personal issues. it's something she has always been gifted with. cora tends to be pretty perceptive towards people, being able to tell if something is wrong even if they seem pretty good at hiding it. empathy is something she possesses and uses to her advantage in order to help people she cares for and even students.
though she seems kind and caring, it doesn't mean that cora doesn't have a darker side. she's very manipulative when it comes to getting information or something she wants. she has always had this talent for persuading people into talking about things they may have been reluctant to speak of. she will go out of her way to find something out, even if it could be a little dangerous. she's very dedicated to her family, and even their business, more than she ever has been. cora has never really done anything all too significant when it comes to the mafia because she's a woman, but if she hears something suspicious that may help them out, she won't be afraid to do a little digging. she's an outstanding liar and can pretty much talk her way through anything using her charming way with words.
cora has always been extremely independent, though she does love having her family's shoulder to lean on when things get rough. she's managed, since her younger years, to think for herself and generally make good decisions. she's been able to provide for herself and arietta for the past two years, and definitely contributes to the giovanni household in which she lives by insisting her aunt take money for food and whatnot that she and arietta take up. it's unneccesary, considering they're a very tightly-knit family, but cora has always had this issue where she feels guilty unless she does her share. she doesn't like to be pulled along in the wagon, she likes to help pull it.
this italian sweetheart can also be fairly fiery and vivacious. she's very impulsive and does a lot of thing out of the blue that don't really make much sense. she's not an awkward person, thus making her extremely outgoing when it comes to meeting new people. generally, she is very lively and fun to be around. she will do something crazy for fun, just to have a good time. cora is very protective when it comes to her family, and she isn't afraid of confrontation. she can be fairly sassy and sarcastic when it comes ot people she doesn't like, but it isn't like she decides to hate somebody right off the bat. they have to give her a reason.
as a teacher, cora is fearless. she likes to connect with her students and be somebody they can confide in. she's generally considered fairly laid-back and one of the "cooler" teachers around. some rules she finds stupid and secretly doesn't enforce them all too harshly. she tries to make things exciting and keep activities and labs fresh so the kids don't lose interest. cora doesn't have much of a filter, so she will say what she really believes in class, and sometimes doesn't control her language all too well, though she does try. she's the teacher that will say a curse word, and then blush and feel embarrassed about it while all the kids laugh. she's pretty easy going and likes to help her students out instead of just letting them fail because they don't come to her.
like many people, cora has extreme trust issues unless it comes to her family, who she still doesn't even totally confide in about everything. she has come to realize humans are natural liars, it's just what they do. she knows she lies sometimes, and you just can't avoid it. she figures you just have to learn who is worth it. it's not often that she let's people in. especially relationship wise since she has already loved and lost once and isn't quite sure she can stand it again. she is pretty cautious when it comes to new people and doesn't quite feel comfortable getting into heart-to-heart, deep, conversations with those who aren't of her own blood. she's come to realize she can rely on her family, but she isn't quite sure about the rest of the world.
this girl is very cocky. she thinks a lot of herself, and why shouldn't she? she's a beautiful giovanni, her family is a powerful one, and she's simply just very confident. in fact, she insists that all it is is confidence, and that there is a fine line between cockiness and confidence. she figures she can get stuff out of people just because of her looks, and she knows she's turning a few heads when she walks around. it's not something she really goes and brags about and makes completely obvious, it's just a subtle sort of "yeah, i think i am gorgeous" air in the way she carries herself. she's been told that it intimidates people, but she finds confidence attractive.
cora is definitely not a hopeless romantic. she doesn't dream about grand weddings, though that is probably what she'll end up with because of her family, or expensive engagement rings. roses and boxes of chocolates are much too cliche for her liking. she likes the simple things, the creative acts of love that don't show up in every romance movie known to man. she would rather go and do something fun and spontaneous on a date than dinner and a movie. she's just not really into that whole frilly-nilly valentine's day-esque stuff. in fact, she finds it rather annoying. for all she cares, she could get married in a mcweddings in vegas by an elvis and have a candy ring for her wedding ring. sure, maybe a simple white gold band would be preferred, but it's not something she needs.
she tends to trouble her mind with the weight of the world. when cora hears of something sad or shocking, she tends to think about it, and let it eat away at her until something distracts her from it completely. she thinks way too much, and it makes her suspicious and hesitant when it comes to people because she always thinks of some underlying motives. she's the type of person who won't fall asleep at night because she will lay there and just let her mind go wild with thoughts, analyzing everything she said that day, or everything somebody said to her, if she'd been a good mom or done something wrong.
though she may be young and single, cora is in fact a very good mother. it may sound silly, and she might never admit it, but she watched violetta from when rocco was born, and still does to this day, and as well as building off her dear cousin's parental skills, she twists it into her own and has become a good mother. she questions herself a lot though, and wonders if arietta will be okay in the long run, growing up without a father figure. sure, she has all of cora's cousins and brothers, but is that enough in the long run? sometimes she feels like she is doing everything all wrong, but at the end of the day she feels content and like she is doing that best she can for arietta, and that is what is important.

LIVING SITUATION: Giovanni mansion in the valks, for now <3
HISTORY:
adriana giovanni was the second child in her family of nine. she'd always been known as the beauty with no brains in the family. she was always a little more naive, a little less involved, and a whole lot more clueless. she was a princess, at least in her mind, and so she got most of what she'd wanted. adriana wasn't demanding though, nor a spoiled "brat." she was fairly sweet and loving towards everybody, taking on a sort of motherly role being older than the majority of her siblings. she had no interest in the "behind the scenes" of her family's occupation, but she was extremely proud of being a giovanni.it was a name she thought had power, which it did, and it gave her status, a status she refused to have revoked. it was really the only thing she held strongly too. adriana loved her family, and she was extremely loyal to them. they seemed to keep a close eye on her, being very protective because of her sometimes scatter-brained ways. the girl didn't mind much though, she liked having her share of the attention. she particularly liked it when her appearance took hold the attention of adamo moretti. he was a handsome, wealthy boy who's parents were both dead and gone and he'd just been a simple chef in his own restaurant. they connected immediately, and soon enough were married in naples, italy. adamo was then introduced to the mafia, which he embraced whole-heartedly. adriana did not want to give up her last name, and she wanted her children to carry it on with them, so she kept her's, and adamo kept his, not really objecting. they tried for a while to have kids, without success, and just when they were about to give up, they had rafael.
it came easy after that, because cora, there only and beloved daughter, came soon after that. they adored her, and rafael took a particularly protective stance over her even though he was still at a young age. she was the only girl, for another boy, arturo, came after her, and he was adriana and adamo's final child. all the children grew up, fighting and wrestling like expected. cora, like her brothers, took on the trademark giovanni features of dark eyes, dark hair, beauty, mystery, and of course the olive complection. she grew up happily, adoring her large family. her cousins and aunt and uncles and brothers and parents were her favorite people in the word. her and her cousin, violetta, had been particularly close as children. until she was around fourteen, she didn't really bother associating with anybody outside of her family. but then her grandfather was killed, and everything changed. many of her uncles moved to los angeles to support the homebase there. adriana, however, refused. cora's mother did not want her children to be thrown into the middle of all the blood and violence, she loved them too much for that. she couldn't even bare the thought of them being that close to these horrid irish men. so adriana and adamo moved to florence, italy, leaving behind their abandoned hometown of naples.
while there, the family became particularly disconnected from the mafia. adamo would fly out to los angeles to help out here and there every now and again, but mostly they lived happily and quietly in florence, though the giovanni name was still known to many. cora missed her cousins, and found it hard to make friends because she'd skipped a grade and was younger than everybody in her classes without her cousins around, so she was particularly discontented with the move. her parents loved it though. they opened up a restaurant and were perfectly happy running it, knowing they were safe, or as safe as they could be, there where they'd relocated to. cora was enrolled in dance classes of all styles, and that was how she ended up making friends. she hung around the dancers at the expensive, private catholic school she attended. the school was very high-end and taught english so the students could become fluent. going to that school made cora particularly religious. she wasn't a devout catholic, but she agreed with a lot of what they taught. she believed in god. but as she explored other religions, she found she believed a lot of what they taught too, and also disagreed with many of them. so she ended up deciding she was a christian. she couldn't believe too firmly though, because she refused to believe her family's business could send them to hell. that wasn't possible in her mind, so she just believed in god, but didn't attend church or hear preachings.
cora excelled in dancing. it was probably the biggest joy in her current life. ballet, ballroom, it all held her interest. she'd also become fond of teaching people. all throughout her school days she'd been a tutor for her fellow classmates, even if she was younger than them by a year. she helped out mostly in sciences and english classes because those were the ones she found she was particularly gifted in. she even started being paid for helping people out, though she never requested it.it was something she figured she could always go into professionally if dancing didn't work out for her, which ended up being the case. when cora was sixteen, and in her final years of schooling, she went to a dance recital in greece. while travelling about though, she managed to break her foot, and that was when she realized she was never going to become a professional dancer. for a while she was heartbroken, but something much more significant happened during that trip to athens than her dancing career being thrown into oblivion.
during that trip she'd taken to athens, greece. she'd met a boy, matthias saro. he was from the united states and had been visiting his aunt, uncle, and cousin in greece. cora was in athens for a week and didn't really have anything to do, so she met up with this boy multiple times. they clicked instantly. apparently his parents were from portugal but moved to the u.s. when he was in the womb. so he grew up there. while spending time with him, she'd also met his cousin, josie. she was two years younger than cora herself, but she liked the girl. she was timid and shy, but a nice one. already taking a liking to the family, cora had spent most of her week there with them until the day of her recital when she broke her foot and was forced to go back home to florence. the relationship didn't stop there, though. cora wrote matt (and even kept in touch with josie), and on occasion they'd talk on the phone. everytime he went to greece to visit his family, he'd make sure he'd had a transfer flight to italy to meet up with her. they were dating, pretty much, and cora was head over heels for the boy. her parents were basically clueless about it. they didn't even have an idea.
not too long after her trip to greece did cora get informed of violetta being kidnapped. she up and left with rafael, family first, and went to los angeles. she stayed there with her family, who she hadn't seen in forever, until violetta was found. she didn't even really explain to matt what was going on, but her school-days when she was young with violet had not been forgotten, and she still considered her one of her closest family members, like a sister, and went to be of support. she was a worried wreck inside the giovanni mansion in los angeles. she didn't really even leave, just sat around and waited for some sort of news. rafael was worried too, but he was just intrigued by the mafia and ints networks. finally violetta was found. cora stayed a few days after to help take care of her since she seemed to have gone through a rough time. eventually she and rafael left, and went back to florence to give a report to the rest of the family. adriana was always very intune with her family, even if she wasn't close to them, so she was heartbroken just to hear violet had been kidnapped.
when cora was seventeen, she graduated high school and dropped a bombshell on her parents. she was going to move to the united states to be with matthias. they weren't all too happy. he was american, for one, and he was considering going into the u.s. army. that went against everything the name "giovanni" meant, in their eyes. however, they didn't want to risk losing their daughter forever over this predicament, and didn't fight with her going, though her brothers were more openly disgusted. so at seventeen, cora took charge of her life, got on a plane to america, and went after the boy she was in love with. she and matt, who was already turning nineteen, moved into an apartment together in miami, florida. she started school there to become a teacher and pursue a career. not too long after moving there did cora hear about violetta having her baby. she flew to los angeles again to see the little guy. she adored him, little rocco, and seeing him made her long for her own little baby to hold in her arms. she was surprising jealous of violet, though not of how it all came to be in the first place. she was grateful for moving back to america because she was finally close with her family again, particularly violet. she empathized with her and helped out, but after a few weeks she returned to miami. when she turned eighteen, matt enlisted with the u.s. military and was off.
cora was worried sick and spent more and more of her time in the los angeles mansion while he was away. she couldn't stand being alone, just waiting to hear his voice or that he was dead. it drove her insane. he always came back on leave though, always in one piece. for now, he wasn't going anywhere, but he always went back to the war. she became much closer to her family during that period, and she spoke to josie a lot more often too, just so she could talk to somebody who was familiar with him. when she was nineteen, he came back on leave again, and proposed to her. it was his last rotation in and when he came back he wanted to marry her. cora was thrilled. she accepted and they spent the night together, just the two of them, focused on nothing but each other. after a while though, he went back, and she was worried again. the fear became even more intense when she missed her period. that was when she knew everything was going to change. she was pregnant. she was exuberant about it, but the fear for matt was still too intense to really let it settle in. josie was the first person she called and told.
when it was getting close to matthias coming home for good, cora's door was knocked on by a couple of u.s. military officials. for a second her heart dropped. was it about her family? the giovanni's? no, it couldn't be. they were precise and perfect. they could handle themselves. that left only one other option... matthias. they informed her he was dead, and she sat down on her door step and cried as soon as they'd left. at his funeral she was accompanied by his parents and family from portugal as well as some friends he'd had and former servers of the military who'd been able to attend. even cora's brothers came to support her. it was the saddest day of her life, and it sent her into a dark chapter in her world that she thought she would never get out of. she stopped answering phone calls, stopped communicating with anybody really. cora attended school and took care of her body for the baby's sake, but otherwise she was depressed and mute. eventually phone calls stopped coming and she fell into her lonely, silent ways.
when she was coming on nine months pregnant, cora had contemplated suicide. not while she was pregnant, but after. so she called josie, the first time she'd intentionally called anybody in months, and asked her to be the baby's godmother. that way somebody could take her in when she was gone. josie accepted. cora went back to los angeles to have her baby,so she could see her family one last time. her parents and rafael, and arturo came out for the occasion. it was heartbreaking to feel like she was betraying them all, because she was going to kill herself when this was done, when she was sure the baby would live.
everything changed when she met the little girl who had been inside of her for the past nine months though. when matthias died, it was like a part of her broke away and was missing. seeing this little girl though, it was like a new piece had been created and took the broken one's place. she named the girl arietta carolette, and she was the light of her life. arietta saved her, because now she felt ashamed for even considering this stupid idea of suicide. she loved the baby and the old fiery life inside cora she once had returned. she decided to move to valkyrie. it was close enough to los angeles that she was close to the majority of her family, and plus, many of her cousin, and her aunt were living in valkyrie. she transfered to the university there, deciding to finish up her last to years there for her teaching degree. she moved into the giovanni mansion in the valks, and since violet had confided in her, she confided in violet that she had planned on killing herself after arietta was born. that was the only person she really let in about exactly how bad her own personal darker days had been.
now she is almost done with her teaching degree, performed her student-teaching, and managed to become a long term substitue at the academy until the next year when she can actually get an official job there. she's a good mother, and loved her little arietta who is about to turn two years old soon. everything has gotten brighter, and she even started dancing again, for fun. she misses matthias, but she doesn't allow his death to govern her life. he was a good part of it, but he was gone and she couldn't dwell on that anymore. there were new people to meet, new things to experience, and a family who adored her.
