The day was warm and slightly sticky, but a gentle breeze brought the air to a slightly cooler temperature. Kaden had never minded the heat, it was the cold he hated, but the rest of his family had stayed indoors by the air conditioner, drinking lemonade. Kaden hated to be cooped up. He needed the fresh air and the wide open expanses of the park. Life spent indoors was a waste in Kaden's mind. That was a large part of why he was so vehemently against taking over the family business. The last thing he wanted was a 9-5 in an office somewhere, even if he was to be the executive. No, Kaden wanted a job of adventure, a job where he could travel and help people. He wanted to save lives and bring happiness to the unhappy and strength and courage to the weak and fearful. He wanted so much to be in the Army. It made him sick that his selfish parents had forbidden it. But Kaden was an adult now, he no longer needed their permission to join. And so he would be enlisting in only a few more weeks. Kaden was happy that he had the support of his sister and brother, Phoenix and Judas, and his amazing girlfriend. If not for them, his life would be a complete misery.
After walking for quite some time, Kaden took a seat on a nearby bench. It afforded him a good view of the park so that he could observe the passersby. Although Kaden wasn't exactly what you'd call he a people person, he did enjoy observing people and figuring out what made them tick, especially children. Kaden dearly loved children and hoped to have many of his own one day. A couple walking with their young son caught Kaden's eye. They were clearly not rich, but not poor either. They seemed completely happy and completely engrossed in one another and their child. Life looked a paradise for them. That was the life Kaden wanted for his girl and himself. Of course, with him in the Army, he would be gone quite often, but it wouldn't always be so. He would retire eventually and their life would be absolute heaven. Kaden looked forward to the day that he would be able to propose and then get married. For now he had to focus on making something of himself outside of his parents. He didn't want to live in their shadow any longer. Kaden wanted to be and would be his very own man. His life and "Fortune" would be worked for, not handed to him on a silver platter like most things in his life had been.
He wanted the freedom to work to pay his own bills, not having his parents step in at every turn and insist on doing it themselves. There were always strings attached when his parents did something nice for him too. Kaden had had it with the whole thing. He wanted out and very soon would be. He did regret the fact that it would probably hurt his parents, what he was going to do, but he had to do it. He figured they would probably either come around or disown him. He hoped that things wouldn't come to that though.
Running his fingers through his brown hair, Kaden saw a ball rolling towards him. It bumped against his foot, so he leaned down to pick it up. Examining it for a moment, he realized that it obviously belonged to a child and thus lifted his head to look for its small owner.
