"God, you can't stop me from going on a simple trip to Starbucks! It's Starbucks, it's not like I'm going to friggin Bad Seeds at eleven in the morning Mum!" Nina Suresh glared at her skinny mother, her hand resting angrily on the kitchen counter as she drummed her fingers impatiently. "I just think it's important for you not to be out of the house so often. You need some quality family time." Nina raised an eyebrow at that pathetic excuse. Really. That was the best she could come up with? "Well this 'family time' seems kind of pointless since Dad is at work as always, Tim is hiding in his room and Alex is out. Not very 'family' to me. I might as well join the club and get out of here. Now can I have my keys? Like seriously? I'm eighteen-" Her mother swiftly cut her off. "Don't go playing the 'I'm eighteen' card on me now. You're still my daughter and you live under my roof so you go by my rules young lady." Nina rolled her eyes in frustration, part of her just wanting to let out a loud scream now. But she managed to keep the scream inside and settled for a loud groan instead. "Do you have any idea how old you sound when you call me 'young lady'? God, you're so embarrassing. Just give me the keys! I told Paisley I'd meet her in twenty!" Mrs Suresh glared at Nina. "And who is this Paisley? Another tramp from that trashy Bare club?" "Well now that's rude. Are you saying every girl in Bare is a tramp? Thanks Mum, love you too." Nina said sarcastically. "And no, Paisley goes to VA like me and she's a senior too. I have a few classes with her."
Nina conveniently forgot to mention that she hadn't actually officially met Paisley until they bumped into each other in Bare but that fact was clearly irrrelevant and thank goodness her mother didn't ask anymore questions. Nina could have added that Paisley was related to the Mitchells next door but somehow she got the feeling that bringing up Bailey who had been the one to introduce Nina to the clubbing and partying lifestyle probably wouldn't help much. "Now Mum, the keys?" Nina drummed her fingers impatiently against the counter again, waiting. If she didn't get the keys in a few seconds she was going to just walk down to Starbucks or call a taxi because she was notorious for being late and this time she was actually making an effort to get there when she said she would. Which apparently she didn't bother even trying to do whenever she met up with Jules who was constantly complaining about her lack of punctuality. Not that they'd had many dates lately though since he mysteriously disappeared, leaving nothing but a stupid note. Anyway, enough on that. That didn't matter because her mother finally caved. "Well fine, but don't be gone for too long and you must be home tonight. I'm insisting everyone is here for a little family time." Nina snatched the keys from her mother's hand eagerly and rushed out of the kitchen. "Can't you at least wait until Carlito comes back so there'll be at least one person who actually wants to be here?" she yelled behind her, swinging the front door open and shut again. Okay so that was kind of harsh since Carlito had left to be with the rest of the family grieving for Leti and they didn't even know if Carlito was planning to come back anyway but he still had stuff here so it was a valid argument.
After racing down the highway a few miles over the speed limit and nearly running an old lady over at an intersection, Nina finally pulled the car into a parking spot almost directly in front of Starbucks. "Perfect." The tiny brunette smiled to herself as she climbed out of the car, hoisting her handbag onto her shoulder easily. She loved getting a good parking spot. With a slight spring in her step from the good parking spot and the knowledge that she had successfully pissed off her mother, Nina strutted into Starbucks and inhaled deeply. There really was nothing she loved more than the smell of all those different types of coffees mixed together to make that beautiful scent. Glancing around the cafe though, Nina frowned slightly. Paisley was no where to be seen. So she's rushed all that way for nothing? Ridiculous. Sighing, Nina wandered up to the queue in front of the counter, thanking God that the line wasn't too big today. About a minute later she was looking up at some nerdy sophomore kid with serious acne issues. Ew. "Ugh, just a Decaf Espresso Roast." she said coolly, her valk!girl attitude shining through nicely as she handed over the correct money. Several moments later she was walking away with a nice hot espresso in her hands. Just taking one sip already had her warmed up quite nicely.
Stopping at a table by the front window, Nina slid gracefully into the seat facing the door so she could spot Paisley as soon as she walked inside. Now for the hardest part. Waiting. Nina sipped on her espresso slowly as she waited for Paisley to arrive. Nina had never been good with patience, always getting bored far too easily. It was hard to get too bored in Starbucks though with all of the people walking in and out. Occasionally you got a crazy person who would throw a tantrum if their coffee wasn't precicely as they'd requested. Not today though it seemed. So Nina wa stuck sitting in her favourite coffee house feeling slightly bored now. Pulling her cell phone out, Nina flicked through it to check for any new messages and browsed through her old texts. It seemed so cliche to be fiddling with her phone to make herself seem less loner-ish but right now it was the only thing she could think of while she waited for her blonde friend to show up. She didn't really know Paisley too well actually since they were basically just party-friends in that the only time she really talked to Paisley was in the clubs with a drink in her hand. But they had started to talk a little more in the Valkyrie Academy hallways and then discovered they had a few classes together and started talking more and finally the other day agreed to meet up for a coffee and a proper chat which sounded like just the thing Nina needed. She hadn't had a good Starbucks run in a while now and getting to have a nice chat with someone who was hopefully a new friend sounded like the perfect Saturday morning. If only Paisley would turn up now.

. . . .Oh, it was a typical day for Paisely Isabella Parker. Well, a typical morning, that is. She’d woken up, smelt food, gone downstairs and found the twins cooking. Apparently everybody else had gotten early starts and went out for the day. Her parents apparently had a day off, which was surprising on many levels. They’d taken the younger boys to their soccer games for the morning. Melanie and Saydie had planned an entire study day at the library. Paul and Analeigh were somewhere or another, not that it really mattered. Jacob had baseball practice, as usual. So here she was, just her, Jace, and Callie for the day. They shared the breakfast they’d been working on, messily might I add, with Paisely, and then she headed up stairs to get the day started. It looked like it would be a slow one, not much going on as of yet, but things always changed. The girl headed upstairs to take care of her hygiene needs and dress herself. The snow had passed, but the weather was still warming up. Her chosen outfit was a bit contradictory, but that didn’t really matter. Short, with boots and leg warmers? Well it was very cross canceling, but Paisely was looking more for style and less for logic. She took care of her hair, braiding it and then stuck a hat on over that. An expensive purse tagging along, and the whole outfit came together. While she didn’t have any intense plans for the day, Paisely did have a coffee date with a friend, Nina Suresh. Nina wasn’t exactly Paisely best friend in the whole world, they really weren’t good friends in general. They were party friends, the type you called up when you wanted to just let loose and have a bit of fun. They were in the same grade, and yet before their meeting in Bare, Paisely never really knew who she was. Not really. She was vaguely aware of the girl’s existence because she had something or another going on with Jules, Paisely’s cousin’s step brother. Or something. She always seemed to confuse how people were and weren’t related to each other. Anyway, Nina was a nice girl, and Paisely could actually admit she genuinely liked her, and that didn’t happen often. But they just never really got together outside of the whole party scene. They had been hanging out at school though, stopping and talking more often, working together in the classes they shared. And now they were going to coffee together. It was nice to have some plans that were relaxed. Instead of getting boozed up, she’d just be drinking coffee. Plus, maybe it’d prove that Nina and Paisely could really have a good friendship going if they had this chance to sit down and talk without other people. It wasn’t like the blonde had all that many girlfriends, none who she sincerely enjoyed the company of anyway, so if things with Nina worked out, she’d be thrilled. God, she was making it sound like a relationship, but it sort of was right? Friends fought like married couples anyway.
. . . .When Paisely had finished getting ready, it was getting close to the time she was supposed to meet Nina at the desired location. However, though Paisely didn’t know Nina extremely well, she did know the girl ran behind a little. She was the fashionably late sort. It wasn’t annoying, but it made Paisely feel less of a need to hurry. She would probably get there on time anyways. ”Where are you going?” Jace asked, walking around the corner with Callie at his heels. Paisely shrugged, ”Meeting a friend for coffee,”
Jace grinned slightly, ”Could you drop me and Cals off at the beach?” Paisely looked at him, and then at Callie briefly. Jeez, they were both already in their swimsuits with everything packed, ”You guys planned this,” Paisely accused suspiciously, her eyes narrowing, ”Get in the car,” she then sighed, figuring it wouldn’t be that big of a deal. They made their thank you’s and went out to the spare car still left outside the Parker estate. Paisely climbed into the driver’s seat, seeing Callie had apparently won shotgun. They were always so competitive. She started up the older mustang convertible and back out of their circular driveway. First stop was the beach. It didn’t take that long to get there, but she could see she was now going to be late for Starbucks, which was almost upsetting considering how bad she was craving her coffee. The twins got out of the car and wandered off, ”Call me,” Paisely muttered out the drivers window and they gave her a simultaneous thumbs up, ”Freaks,” she shook her head slightly before pulling out to her next desination. . . . .The Starbucks they were meeting at wasn’t that far away. Paisely was hoping she’d beat Nina there. For some reason she really dislike being the late person in any situation. When the Starbucks came into view she pulled into the driveway, grabbed her purse, and went on in. And what do you know? There was Nina Suresh hanging out alone, looking like she’d been there for ages. Or maybe that was just the semi guilty feeling in Paisely’s brain that she’d left her hanging, ”Nina!” she called while getting in line, offering a small wave before turning to the cashier when her turn came up. Lord, this kid needed to visit a dermatologist. She considered giving him her personal one’s card but decided against it, ”Uh, just give me a caramel frappuccino,” she shrugged, not really caring. That just sounded particularly appetizing at the moment. She took the plastic cup container for it and wandered over to where Nina was waiting, ”Sorry I’m late,” she admitted apologetically with a sheepish smile, ”I had to drop my siblings off at the beach, and well yeah,” she looked around. It wasn’t too crowded, which was good. Her eye happened to catch the not so attractive cashier kid, ”Total babe, right?” she gestured toward the kid, her voice seeping with sarcasm. Then she allowed a little laugh. [/blockquote][/blockquote] tagged . . . . nina suresh ! status . . . . complete ! setting . . . . NINA SURESH,PAINT YOUR FACE LIKE A MOVIE QUEEN A NAUGHTY DREAM OR A FANTASY ANYTHING GOES GOTTA BE THE SCENE create a look, out a fashion book, let's get glam

Nina was actually really looking forward to this little coffee chat with Paisley, more than you would probably expect since it didn't exactly contain the same thrill as a nightclub did. But Nina hadn't just sat down with a friend for coffee in so long it was a little sad. Actually she hadn't sat down for a coffee with anyone in a long time. At least a few months ago she'd been able to go grab a coffee with Jules but he'd mysteriously disappeared with Bailey for a few months, leaving nothing but a brief note. A freaking note! As if everything could be explained in a note. The worst part wasn't the note though. The worst part for Nina was that this wasn't the first time something like this had happened. In fact this whole situation was quite déjà vu for Nina. Only about a year or so ago, her best friend and boyfriend had skipped town without so much as a goodbye. Losing her best friend had been hard but throwing a boyfriend into the mix had nearly thrown Nina over the edge. She hit a low point after that, spiraling into a fast depression that had her entire family worried quite seriously until Bailey Mitchell took pity on her and decided to take her out to a club one night. After that it was all pretty much history. Nina decided that partying was way more fun than wallowing in self-pity and then that love of partying sunk in more until Nina was a completely changed girl from the one she was a year ago. Nina definitely had Bailey to thank for getting her out of that deep funk and to have Bailey now gone was definitely taking a toll on Nina, like she wasn't already crushed from losing Jules too.
Fortunately this time around Nina knew better. She was determined not to fall down the same path of depression that she had this time. Nina knew better now and this time she had a better distraction than school. Throwing back shots while being surrounded by several hot guys all eager to dance with her was much more effective in helping her forget about her idiot boyfriend than studying mass equations. Yes, shots were much more fun. Plus Nina and Jules had been fighting before he left which wasn't anything new. Thinking about it now, all they ever seemed to do was fight and break up and then make up and fight again. There was no way that was a healthy relationship. Maybe it was for the better that he'd gone now. A clean slate. Or something like that. Anyway Nina was quite proud of herself so far. She'd barely grieved Jules's disappearance at all, unlike when her last boyfriend Logan had left and she'd wallowed for months. After Nina got that letter from Jules she'd actually been more pissed than upset which was probably better. It was easier to deal with it when she was angry. She was more inclined to do everything she could to avoid a relapse of last time's depression this way. Instead she was throwing herself into her partying and drinking every night possible. While this was in no way healthy, at least she felt alive and she wasn't actually getting into any trouble. She was still somehow keeping her grades up and passing her classes so there was nothing for her mother to complain about. Yet.
Not that her mother hadn't tried complaining because God, she'd tried. It was all she seemed to do these days. Complain to Nina about her unhealthy lifestyle and then go out to lunch with the other mums in Port Phillip Drive. That was all she seemed to do. Nina had to admit, it was interesting to observe how while she'd gone from Valkyrie's resident sweetheart who was perfectly normal into...well turned into one of 'those' girls who partied and ended up on Scandal Star, her mother had made a similar transformation. Nina had actually used to get along with her mum but as she got older, the arguments started and her mum went from a normal mum into a 'valk!mum' who went out to lunches and dinners all the time and gossiped about the other ladies lives behind their backs, meanwhile being extremely judgmental of her own daughter. It was slightly hypercritical if you asked Nina. Not to mention she seemed totally indifferent to the fact that her own husband was becoming a workaholic who was rarely home anymore. Honestly though, the thing Nina hated the most, besides her mother's constant rants against Jules, was when her mother dissed her friends. Bag your own daughter all you want but hating on girls she didn't even know just pissed Nina off. And heck, Nina had barely even mentioned Paisley to her mother and Mrs Suresh had just figured 'Nina's new friend...Must be a slut.'. Really Mrs Suresh? Really? It was insane. Of course Nina didn't really know Paisley that well but her mum was just annoying. At least Nina was giving this new friendship a chance.
That was if Paisley was going to show up. In reality Nina had probably only been waiting two or three minutes even if it felt like longer, when she spotted a familiar head of blonde hair walk in. "Hey!" she called in response to hearing her name called, extending her arm up to wave quickly. She let her gaze drift out to the busy road outside while Paisley ordered her coffee. It was quite busy for a Saturday morning in Nina's opinion. Then again she was usually in bed until early afternoon on Saturdays so she wasn't really the best to judge. After another few moments, Paisley finally slid into the seat opposite Nina. ”I had to drop my siblings off at the beach, and well yeah,” Nina waved a hand away at Paisley's apology. "Oh don't stress. I nearly didn't make it here in the first place." Nina took another sip of her coffee before swallowing quickly to explain. "My mum took my keys away. She likes to think she has authority over me still." Nina rolled her eyes. Following Paisley's gaze over to the cashier guy, Nina stifled a giggle but let it out after Paisley. "Oh God yes. You should totally go give him your number. Or the number of a good dermatologist at least." Nina gave a mock-shudder. Taking another sip of her coffee, the brunette tore her gaze from the boy and back to Paisley with an amused smile.

. . . .Paisely was once considered the sweetheart of her family, and still is when it comes to her parents. She was the picture child of a stepford daughter, not complaining about taking piano lessons, or dance, or volleyball. She enjoyed it really. She always retained fairly good grades in school. When she was younger she’d been the picture of perfection. There were no complaints against her, nothing. It was still like that in her household, for the most part. Jacob and Callie were her main opposition these days, considering Melanie and Jace were too much like her that if they said anything they’d be hypocrites. Noah would probably care if he didn’t have his own family to support. And then there was Saydie, the one who didn’t judge. Paisely’s parents were wrapped around her fingers, utterly oblivious to the truths in Paisely’s life. Yes, she had once been the perfect, excelling in volleyball and academics, daughter they’d always imagined her as. Once. Now though, Paisely was a bit wilder, freer. It was a secret, her partying ways, her drinking, going out to clubs at night. God, Paisely had so many fabricated friends her parents undoubtedly believed were real that Paisely used as excuses to get out of the house. They were too trusting of her. It wasn’t necessarily a bad thing for the free spirited valk girl, but it did make her parents look like they weren’t paying enough attention. There wasn’t a particular reason Paisely had gone party girl, there was the asshole boyfriend she caught cheating on her, but that wasn’t the sole reason. She’d been a partier before him, just not to as strong an extent. There was just some peculiar adrenaline rush she got when she snuck out, some satisfaction she felt when she was tipsy and dancing. It was hard to explain, but it was something like an addiction. Not in the sense that she was an alcoholic, but just that she was drawn to partying itself, the whole scene. It was like she craved it. Granted, she often went long periods of time staying away from the crazy ones, she did have limits and she knew which lines not to cross. And it wasn’t like the girl was a whore. She’d honestly never really had sex, but nobody real knew that, she lied about it when it came up. It was stupid and unimportant, but she felt like a youngling knowing she was a virgin when the majority of her graduating class wasn’t. Anyway, just the typical, spontaneous partying was her style. She loved it all; valks parties, shak parties, bonfires, clubs. It was, in fact, how she’d come to meet Nina Suresh.
. . . .Nina was one of the few party friends Paisely had whom she liked even when she was sober and not half naked. She’d never really a whole lot of interest in the girl before, mostly because it was just something Paisely did, ignore people who she didn’t talk to outside the parties. It was nothing personal though. Nina was cute, so it wasn’t like she was bad for Paisely’s rep to be hanging out with her, Paisely had vaguely known of Nina already, though she never really met her until that night at Bare. Not to mention, Nina was close friends with Paisely’s cousin, Bailey, before she’d left. So if Bailey liked the girl, than Paisely decided she would probably like her too since she got along with Bailey so well. That was why the blonde had been more open with her new brunette friend when they’d seen each other in the school hallways. She went out of her way to say hi, to talk to her, to ask how she was doing. Every now and again they even spent lunch together or something, but for a while their friendship never progressed further than that. Paisely was never sure why this was, but it never really bothered her either. And then one day, out of the blue, they simultaneously decided to go out for coffee together. Naturally, Paisely was all for it. If she could add another close friend to her ranks, she wasn’t going to pass up, especially with somebody she got along with so well as Nina. If she really didn’t like the girl, she would have straight up gave her a no, but she liked Nina, so that was not going to happen. Having some girl time would be nice, because honestly, outside of her parties and practices, Paisely never had much time to just relax and hang out with a friend. In fact, how many people did she even consider true friends? Not many at all.
. . . .It wasn’t her fault she was at a lack of digits when it came to her friend count. It was just that people annoyed her. Parting with people and being able to just hang out with somebody were completely different. You had to actually enjoy somebody’s company, you had to be able to talk to them easily or sit in complete silence without feeling awkward. Paisely knew she was a little picky when it came to her choices of association, but she really wasn’t intending to insult anybody. It was just that some slutty chick she thought was fun when she was wasted wouldn’t quite have the same charm when she was sober and looking for a good conversation. Paisely didn’t have many people she could talk to easily, not many people she really trusted enough to tell secrets too or who she tolerate or liked enough to hang out with often. It was a good thing she had her three sisters, because she loved them all to pieces. Them and her other relatives were the people she could be more herself around, more faithful towards. She knew friends could leave you, they could stab you in the back, and so could family. The difference was however, friends would let the wound fester, while family would take the knife out and help heal it. There was nobody she trusted more than her family… but having a girlfriend who didn’t share her DNA? The idea of it was delightful. She would kill for somebody like that, and it was like she was having secret tryouts in her mind. Basically, Paisely figured Nina had the potential to be best friend, or at least close friend, material eventually.
. . . .Paisely had felt a little guilty, wondering if Nina had been waiting for her long, but her stubborn nature wasn’t going to have her grovel at Nina’s feet about it. Her simply sorry was sufficient, was it not? Nina seemed to accept it. ”Oh don't stress. I nearly didn't make it here in the first place." Paisely grinned as she continued, "My mum took my keys away. She likes to think she has authority over me still." Paisely rolled her eyes, ”Don’t all moms act like that?” she rolled her eyes and laughed airlessly. Sure, Paisely’s mom wasn’t really like that, but she probably would be if the hospital didn’t consume all her parenting hours like a great white shark who’d caught the scent of blood, "Oh God yes. You should totally go give him your number. Or the number of a good dermatologist at least." Paisely snorted, ”My thoughts exactly,”
she raised her coffee mug, ”To dermatology,” she whispered with a snarky grin plastered across her full lips, toasting. She took a sip of her coffee then, already enjoying their little exchange. Paisely shrugged, noticing the place was slowly clearing out, probably because half these people had other places to be… work and such. ”So, how have you been?” Paisely questioned, truly genuine, all the mockery from her expression gone for the time being.
