PERSONAL STYLE: channing likes a kind of boho chic. basically she'll wear just about anything in her closet, anything that she feel just works together. she gets a lot of free clothes from events and such and she's not shy about taking it out for a test run. if she doesn't like something in her wardrobe she tends to give it away to a charity of some sort.

WEAKNESSES: doesn't know who she is, tends to be walked all over by those in charge.

DISLIKES: watching her own performances, critiques, people who only like her for her fame, paparazzi, rumors, not being able to have a bit of privacy in her own life, birds, spiders, her face supporting organizations she doesn't like, being forced to do whatever she's told, not knowing enough about how the business works to work for herself, being told who she can and cannot be.
FLAWS: tends to not speak for herself, lets her agent do the talking when it's not what she wants, tends to not know when she's in character and when she's herself, doesn't have a strong sense of who she really is.
HABITS: twirls her hair when anxious or bored, chews on her bottom lip at times, likes to chip of her fingernail polish.
SECRETS: lets the media think she's lost her virginity with her first boyfriend from a recent movie but in reality that relationship was just for the media. her virginity is intact.
BEST MEMORY: her first oscars.
WORST MEMORY: her sixteenth birthday party where her parents both stood her up.
OVERALL PERSONALITY: for a teenager, channing is a very well-rounded, and grounded individual. she's not one of those kids that gets a taste of fame and decides to test their boundaries to the fullest. that would be attributed to the fact that she's lived this life all her life. channing comes from a family of celebrities. her father marcus is one of the leading actors of his time and he's a second generation actor. channing's mother juliette is a former supermodel who turned actress in her thirties. channing is just another whitaker in the spotlight so none of this is a surprise to her. she was born with paparazzi standing over her, figuratively of course. she attended oscar parties when she was a toddler and can't remember a time when she wasn't in front of a camera. honestly, it doesn't bother her. like a caged animal who sees face after face on a daily basis, channing has been so desensitized to cameras that she hardly sees them anymore.
she's never really cared about the input people may have on her life. it's always been about other people's opinion be it her parents, her cousin, or anyone else for that matter. it's like second nature to hear what people say need changing or what people say what she should be doing with her life. in all honesty she knows it's not their problem, but she tends to not be able to help herself. it's as if she has no backbone when really channing simply doesn't have a strong sense of self. when it comes to making decisions she can do so but when it comes to having to define herself or what she wants out of life someone always steps in to take the reins. she's never really had an opportunity to stand back and just say "okay this is who i am." there has always been someone on the outside dictating who she should be. does she like it? no of course not. but because it had never been much of a problem, channing has never had an issue with letting people, mainly her agent, tell her who she should be. her agent, and cousin, likes to portray channing as a disney-esque children's role model turning into a more mature woman. she get her outfits channing is never sure about for events and such and from an outsider's perspective would seem to be ruining her.
lola likes to say that the change in her "celebrity life" is mainly for press, that bad press is still press and that she should embrace it. channing goes with her cousin's suggestions because the woman is an experienced agent but it's not who channing wants to be. she doesn't want to dress in gaudy, black, skimpy outfits. she doesn't want to support such elitist events as extravagant balls in honor of yacht owners or those kind of things. channing likes to consider herself a charitable person. she likes giving away her gowns and other garments to charities to sell off for money. she likes to do so before lola can get a hold of them. honestly she feels kind of trapped in the arrangement her parents have with her cousin. she would assume that her parents would only wish her the best, and hopes that is the case, but she doesn't know quite how to tell them that lola is trying to screw her over. she is family after all which makes the situation all the more sticky. but this life is all she knows and it's all she's wanted to know. she's never had any sudden desire to get out of the business, only a desire to do things her way. it's not most cases when a famous teenager wants to pull back and be a little more reserved but that is channing for you.
she doesn't know how to socialize with people her age. give her a group of seasoned actors at an oscar party and she can carry on a conversation like no other but stick her in a high school surrounded by people her own age who are quick to judge a famous teen, she clams up quicker than anything. she doesn't know how to be normal. she's always been that girl in the spotlight. channing is trying to change that though. against the will of her cousin, channing has convinced her parents to enroll her in valkyrie academy, a place she could dorm or whatnot just for the chance to be a real teenager. she's always been home schooled and has done quite well for herself there, but she likes the idea of trying something new, something that will undoubtedly challenge her. she's acted with some of the best, she's handled some of the most complex characters, but almost nothing compares to the nervousness brought on by high school. she hopes that it will somehow build up her confidence enough to take the initiative in her own career. lola isn't making the kind of choices that suit channing and she wants to gt up the nerve to either tell her to change her ways or just fire her altogether.
AND WE'LL BOTH GROW OLD ,
CHARACTER HISTORY ,
well i don't know, i don't know, i don't know, i hope so
HOMETOWN: orange county, california
PARENTS: marcus davie whitaker - fifty-seven; father, second generation actor
juliette victoria evans-banks - forty-five; mother, actress and former supermodel
SIBLINGS: none.
OTHER: tallulah "lola" coraline hicks - twenty-nine; cousin, channing's agent
LIVING SITUATION: dorms.
HISTORY: marcus whitaker and juliette evans met in the usual way, in celebrity speak at least. they met on the red carpet during a gala. marcus was there with one of his costars, their false romance helping to promote their newest movie and juliette was there with one of her newest athlete boy toys. oh yes, the life of a celebrity really could be as dazzling as it appeared from the sidelines. but it usually only appeared that way because celebrities tried too hard. marcus and juliette could pull it off in a nearly effortless fashion. but back to their first meeting. it wasn't the whole "their eyes lock and they just know" kind of moment. they met, shook hands, and had conversations with one another before going their separate ways. it wasn't until after the gala that marcus even contacted juliette, asking her to coffee. they kept their relationship pretty under wraps. disguises, look-a-likes in different cars, the works. it wasn't until they had gotten past that serious point to forever that they really started going out in the open. once they'd established that they had something real they went out where paparazzi could find them in an effort to test the boundaries of their relationship. once they established that they would be fine as a couple, the two announced their engagement after just over a year and a half of dating.
after about a year of marriage, juliette was seen trying to hide her stomach. sure enough she was pregnant with channing at twenty-nine. she gave birth to a bouncing baby girl in a private room at cedars-sinai medical center in late april of '91. ever since she was in diapers, channing has been in the spotlight. her first steps were documented by paparazzi as was just about anything about her. because her parents were famous, so was channing. it was a lot of pressure from a young age, being thrust in the spotlight as she was. as much as her parents tried to shield her from the media, she still had candid pictures on trashy magazines that always claimed her parents were having problems, were getting divorced, or that they weren't her real parents. you know the kind of magazines that follow any crackpot's story about big foot existing. those rag mags that'll print anything false and just retract it with an apology when someone lashes out.
even at such a young age, channing didn't really have a problem with the crazy celebrity lifestyle because it was all she knew. being that she was introduced to it from the very beginning, one could say that channing had been desensitized to the lavish lifestyle. by the time she was a year old, channing stopped shying away from cameras. she would wave at them instead. she became a natural in the community and just about anyone who looked at her knew that she would some day be just as famous as her folks. and they'd be right. it didn't take long for channing to break into the film community. she was in her very first film by the time she was four. granted that it wasn't a huge role. in fact it was one of the smallest roles she's done to this day. channing played a little girl in the 1994 film the classics. it was good for her because it wasn't an overwhelming kind of role. she simply had one or two scenes that really just pricked her interest as a child. by the time more options came around, young channing jumped at the opportunity to try something else. her roles got more substantial as time went by. in 1996 she played the role of a drug dealer's daughter who was in the home when the title characters broke into their home to shake the man down for money. in 1997 she played a best friend to a secondary character. in 1998 she played the role of a character's younger self. channing enjoyed this role because she got to play in all of the character's flashbacks. she got to show a wide range of emotions because the flashbacks ranged from fun events such as times at a lake to scary/frustrating emotions when the character's mother got drunk and chased her around the house. it was channing's first real acting challenge and she took to it like a fish to water.
in 1998 channing was signed to her first television series. she played the quirky next door neighbor in a series called liberty. she played the role about two and a half years before she was acked to do her first title role in a film. television was fun but films really seemed to be her calling. liberty had been her first and only series that she's done to date. she was signed on to play the role of sarah burgess in the film in the dark. the story focused around channing's character as she dealt with the "end of the world." her character was left parent-less when nuclear explosions brought the united states to it's knees. it wasn't until after the success of in the dark that channing's parents hired lola, channing's cousin, to step in as her agent.
lola had just graduated from business school and being that she was a part of the whitaker legacy, she was immediately given a job handling channing and her affairs. almost immediately lola thrust channing into the spotlight. she had her signed up for film after film and threw her in front of as many cameras as humanly possible. in her opinion channing hadn't gone about it right. she'd taken parts that had been offered to her but she hadn't gone out and taken the initiative to get parts and make herself known. lola landed channing the role of rachel partick in rosemary's lake, the story of a girl (rachel) who witnesses a murder at rosemary's lake and then has to outrun both the murder and the ghost of the murdered boy as she tried to hide what she knew. quite frankly at that early age the role had frightened her, but it did more so in the cinema as she watched her performance for the first time at the premiere. since that moment channing refuses to watch her own movies. she'll show up at the premiere, smile for the cameras, do the interviews, everything, but she refuses to sit down with a box of popcorn and watch herself. she usually likes to go to the concession stand and just sit around chatting with the employees. they like it because they get to ask her questions, she likes it because she doesn't have to watch herself, win-win.
lola was quick to get channing involved in as many projects as humanly possible and 2004 was one of the busiest years channing had ever had. she did three movies, story of an hour, john martin's pet, and lily's dream. all were vastly different from one another and challenging in their own ways. john martin's pet was one of channing's favorite projects. it was the first film where she worked with other really experienced actors. it was also the film from which channing was invited to the academy awards.
in 2006 channing went to france for a film lola had signed her up for. channing hadn't a clue about what the film was about until she was already on set and reading the script. her cousin had made a point to specifically keep the theme of the movie from her, something channing never let her do again. but channing did the movie anyways. she played the role of a young tourist who was kidnapped and forced into prostitution. the long string of movies continued well into 2007. it was then that lola really started getting bold. she started having channing's events planned out and even go so far as to get her to wear certain things that channing would never choose to wear on her own. before it hadn't been an issue but now that it's gotten to the point where lola's making her look bad, channing's begun to have enough. her cousin's concept that bad press is still press has really pushed channing to her breaking point. but how do you fire family? her parents have put her in a sticky situation that channing doesn't know how to get out of and worse, doesn't really have the spine to take care of on her own.
