we are broken - - W H A T M U S T W E D O T O R E S T O R E- - our innocence
It didn't look right. A slow cant of her head given, brunette locks in soft, wavy curls framing those delicate features. Dark green eyes scanning the sheet of just barely off-white paper. Brushing her thumb lightly along one of the smears of color. It was a deep plum, maybe too deep of a plum? Brows furrowing in a soft wrinkle, shaking her head to herself as a sigh was given. Glancing slowly up from the sketch. A deep plum strapless gown, soft pale white lace trim, empire waistline. Just another small piece of her dream for her future. Something to set herself up for life. To set her family up for life.
Life at Happy Falcon Pizza was nice, especially on big game nights. Good tips, and Penny couldn't deny, it was kind of fun seeing the High School scene. Getting to look in on what kind of High School life their family should have had at some point in time. Some nights however, were too slow. Lets face it, no one absolutely loves their job. Wrong Penelope Elizabeth Sutton, some people do. Vera Wang, Betsey Johnson, Marc Jacobs, yea, they probably all absolutely loved their job. Now why couldn't she get in with them? Names though were just that. Names. Eventually it would be her name. That smile spread over her features as she glanced slowly back to the sketch in front of her, raising it slowly eye level. Elbows resting lightly on the counter. "Enough day-dreaming there Penny. When you're on a New York runway somewhere, you can day-dream on your own dime." Eyes raising as a light smile was given. Nodding slowly, "Sorry Sal. Just wanted to finish this one up."
Biting her lower lip lightly, a brow raising, turning the paper to face the slightly over-weight, and usually grumpy man that eyed her curiously. "Seriously, if you were a girl..? Penny began to ask, clearly looking for an opinion to solidify the fact that she still had her touch. The long shifts lately at the pizza joint had left her with little to no time to whip out some decent sketches, let alone make anything new. Except her skirt. It was a layered off white and silver lined girl, falling just above the knees. Worn with a gray tank top with silver beading and accents along the neckline. Sal shook his head with a gruff snort of a laugh, "If I were a girl, I would be trying to find me a nice guy to settle down with, instead of working 10 and 12 hour shifts." He offered her a light smile, one she couldn't help but return.
"Yea, yea.. Sal, if only it were that easy. A brow raising slowly. Penelope couldn't hardly remember the last time she had any kind of serious relationship. She wasn't against them by any means, the cards just never really fell that way, not yet at least. Turning the paper back to her, a slow cant of her head given. "Maybe.. Red, instead. Muttering quietly to herself.
A bell above the door rang to life as two older men walked in. Mumbling something about the factory. Two of the regulars that usually came in at the end of the week for a quick couple of beers. Happy hour of sorts. They had been in here nearly every Friday since she got the job here after moving, "Besides.. im twenty-three. Not thirty-five." A hand grabbing for the tacky white apron, the other sliding the sketch inside a simple black folder. Tossing the folder into a cabinet shelf. Wrapping the apron around her waist as she tied it in back. Walking to the bar area, she pulled two Bud Lights from the draft, and walked over to the two older gentlemen. "Hey guys, just taking the usual? Penelope asked, knowing already, it would be a large deep-dish. Extra Pepperoni. They only gave a nod, before nearly in-sync, raising their beers for a drink. A smile given as she gave a nod, "Comin' up."
Scrawling across a white notepad the typical order. You know, just in case the kitchen didn't already have it ready by now. Penny hadn't mentioned it to anyone yet, but she had an application in at Nonsense. Just part-time. For the slow nights. The music and bands that played there would just be one of the perks. Didn't matter what life style they were raised in, music was therapy, and anyone that knew Penelope, knew the louder, the better.
Placing the order sheet she had written their order on, on a small window shelf, before ringing a bell to the side. "Order in." One of the cooks walked over, greasy fingertips slapping down on the small piece of paper. Nose wrinkling in a slight grimace as he turned and headed to the back. Right, so she worked here, and she loved pizza just as much as the next person.. but unless she was back there cooking her own, which she did in fact do on rare occasion, she typically stayed away from the greasy gooey hands of their head-cook, Benny. Nice guy, just.. Benny. A brow raising, shaking her head to herself. Leaning lightly back against the car counter, she reached to pull her hair back into a messy pony tail, some pieces still fell haplessly in her face. She tended to mess with her hair too much when she was bored, or stressed. Hoping things would pick up, and quick. Otherwise she was stuck rolling silverware, or watching the bar glasses. A glance to the clock. Lunch hour had made for a fairly quick day, only about two hours left and she was free to go home. Free to figure out what was wrong with that plum gown.

CAROLINE ISABELLE SUTTONVALKYRIE CALIFORNIA, HAPPY FALCON PIZZA, DECEMBER 2007 -----a long, drawn out yawn escaped her lips, the warm sunlight stretching across her still closed eyes. if anyone was in the house right now they'd shoot her for sleeping so late, but with her career of choice, sleeping in late was required for how late she worked. carly had yet to explain her late hours to the family. for all they knew she was out being a teenager instead of illegally dishing out drinks to forty something men while dancing on the bar top for tips. it wasn't a bad living, in fact carly loved it. it was one of the best things to happen to her here in valkyrie. carly had loved dancing for about as long as she could remember. even when she'd been a cheerleader in high school, carly had forced the team to take mandatory dance classes to add to their repertoire and their cheers. it had worked well and it had been the best excuse carly had ever come up with for dancing. she loved it more than cheer leading, but being that keizer had been the stereotypical kind of town cheer leading had been all that was offered. carly wasn't necessarily that peppy, happy type. she was like the black sheep of cheerleaders and yet she'd been the one appointed to run the team before everything had gone to hell and she'd gotten pregnant. before any of that carly had been the shit. she'd been popular, the queen bee, she had still maintained her morals and still she'd been overthrown the moment her boyfriend at the time had claimed she was a cheater. he claimed she housed a bastard child within her body and everyone believed her. she had been cast away from her old home and forced to move away. she would happily admit it aloud, moving away from keizer had been the best thing that had ever happened to her. her only regret? how it had effected everyone else around her.
-----she hated the impact her life had made on the lives of the people she loved. true that carly had only been close to her immediate family, all the other suttons in keizer distancing themselves after the death of carly's grandfather, but her impact on the people she loved, her mother, father, brothers, and sister, was a little too much to bear. she'd inadvertently forced her parents out of their jobs. true that they were in better paying jobs now because there was less bias toward them, but they'd still had to pick up and move because of her. nate? her brother had left behind his life in los angeles to come back to the family. how crazy was that? penny? penny had been on her way to something big, carly just knew it, and she'd shot that all to hell. the only one who seemed to be fairing the same was wes and that was because his job called him to alaska for months at a time. when he wasn't on the crabbing boat, he was hanging out at the house. whether he flew into valkyrie, ca or salem, or, the routine didn't change much for him. carly felt bad about the effects she'd had on the people she loved. their lives had been screwed up, ripped out of the routines they were making for themselves, just for her. it both humbled and guilted her.
-----she moaned slightly as the heat from the sunlight woke her from her slumber. she really didn't want to be up. it was her day off after all and with every member of her family out of the house and working there was really no one who would chastise her for sleeping as late as she had, only it wasn't late to her. carly rolled over onto her side, getting tangled in the ruby red fabric of her sheets and cursing as she fought to free her leg. "stupid thing," she grumbled drowsily "get off!" she finally kicked off the fabric, freeing her legs from the tangled mess. she popped up from the bed, raking her hand through her tangled brunette locks. she looked over at the clock on her nightstand and groaned. oh yay. wobbling her way through the room she shared with her twenty-three year old sister, carly walked into the bathroom and turned on the shower. she didn't want to get up, but she might as well do so anyways. there was no sleeping after she woke up. after a quick shower, carly hopped into a simple outfit, doing a quick and effortless makeup job before she grabbed her purse and walked out the door. where was she headed? well she was up early, she had nothing to do, she had hours to kill before work, and she hadn't said good morning to her sister. might as well head over to happy falcon and remedy that last little bit on her list yeah? she walked so it wasn't till about three in the afternoon that carly strolled through the doors, seeing that the place was pretty darn empty. carly gave a little wave to the cook in the back. nice guy, but dirty. there was a reason she didn't eat here. but hey, why not stop in and brighten her sister's day?
-----carly slid her denim-clad but onto the bar stool, wrapping a curled lock around her finger. "yo barkeep. any such thing as family discounts for a beloved younger sister?" she smiled, changing her position so that she knelt on the bar stool. "how's it going babe. i came to entertain you." she smiled over at her sister, her fingers drumming on the counter top. she noticed that the pizzeria's regulars were staring at her ass. what a shock. she looked over at them, making them aware that she'd seen them. both guys looked down with a blush, one daring to peek up at her. carly gave him a little wink and an eye roll. guys could be so touchy. and she didn't say that just because she worked at a coyote ugly bar. reed was very good about making sure the guys kept there hands off.

we are broken - - W H A T M U S T W E D O T O R E S T O R E- - our innocence
Sometimes, the simple of act standing in this place, going home with that awful lingering scent of pepperoni. It wasn't the lifestyle that Penelope wanted, or enjoyed. There was more times then she could possibly count, that she would get out that acceptance letter. Read, re-read, anymore the paper was so crinkled and worn. It was what was supposed to change her life. Supposed to make things better. Having passed it up in the blink of an eye though, because she knew Carly needed someone. Because she had to be there for her. Did she regret it sometimes? Absolutely.. would she go back and change it if the opportunity came around? Not likely. Arms crossing over her chest lightly as eyes shifted up to the large set of windows. The painted on advertisements on the outside of the building for the weekly specials, beginning to peel, and chip. Sal wouldn't fix it anytime soon though. Not until it was completely illegible. Anything to save a few times. Funny, she knew the feeling. The idea let a smile spread across her features.
Turning to glance into the small wall-window to peer into the kitchen. Benny, topping off the `pie` as he chose to call it, before popping it into the large steel oven. He turned and gave her a smile before pulling out the pack of Newports he had in the worn out front pocket of his gray, holey t-shirt. Packing it a few times against his palm before he headed out to the back door of the kitchen, propping it open with an old pizza box. Nose wrinkling a bit.
The sound of the familiar voice behind her had her turning back around. A wide smile spread across her lips as she stepped closer slowly. "First off, Benny is cooking today. Secondly, you think Sal would let me give anyone a friends and family discount?" Her voice soft, teasing. Watching as sister-dearest knelt on the stool, she gave a soft roll of her eyes, a clearly amused grin as she shook her head to herself. Grabbing for one of the dish towels, she whipped it lightly at her sisters arm. "Cool it." Glancing slowly to the two guys, they didn't seem to mind at all though. A slow cant of her head given, "Entertain me huh? What's the plan? Spinning plates on tooth picks, or you gonna go straight for tradition and shake the goodies on the bar?
The irony of it, considering she was completely unaware of the fact that her sister did actually participate in that type of behavior. Had Penny been aware.. well, it was hard to say if she would be angry or not. Honestly, at this point, she might have asked her sister to hook her up with a job there, also.
Leaning lightly against the bar, elbows resting lightly on the smooth wood, polished to perfection. It was likely the most expensive thing in the place, and Sal took price in it. Every night, scrubbing it down to a shine so clear you could nearly see your reflection in it. It was his.. 'sketch', so to speak. He took care of it, the way she did her black folder. Blinking as the thought came to mind, "Speaking of.." Okay, so they weren't speaking of. Penny was.. thinking of. She glanced down the length of the bar, Sal no where in sight. She turned to grab that black folder, sitting it down in front of Carly before flipping it open, "Sal doesn't quite fit my target audience.. what do you think?" Looking back at her, was the plum gown sketch. A part of her secretly planning, hoping that Carly would like it. Part of the inspiration was the thought of it being her Junior Prom dress. Eh, maybe she was counting.. her eggs before they hatch or.. whatever that saying was. Eyes shifted up to her sisters features. That initial reaction. Its what was make or break in this business. That first reaction. If you don't love it instantly, then it was all done with.
Eyes flickered just briefly to the clock on the wall, then back to her. A suspicious brow raising, "You didn't seriously just get up by the way, did you?" Still somehow, Carly managed to look flawless. A part of her liked to think it was something passed down from big-sis, among other things. "Where oh where has my fabulous sister been spending her nights?" Before she could get the answer though, the loud buzzer from in the kitchen sprang to life. Turning to glance into the kitchen in time to see Benny put out the cigarette, and pull the pizza from the oven. A few quick slices, and it was at the window ready for serving. Turning back to Carly, she gave a nod to the sketch as she grabbed an oven mit from behind the bar, slipping it on. Stepping away long enough to deliver the pizza to the table with the regulars, before stepping back over to Carly.

CAROLINE ISABELLE SUTTONVALKYRIE CALIFORNIA, HAPPY FALCON PIZZA, DECEMBER 2007 -----this place, this grease ridden, beer belly soaked place could not possibly be what penny had in mind when she thought of moving here. true that her waitressing job back in keizer had been no better, possibly worse. carly couldn't imagine how tough it had to be for her to work in one of the only dining joints in town. most people tended to cook their own food in keizer. it was all about stereotypes. the men went to work while the women stayed home and either raised kids, cooked meals, cleaned house, or gossiped for hours at a time. the good ones, the multitaskers, could to a culmination of all of those at one time. but when the wives weren't in the mood or things just got to hectic, the only other place to go in town was the one joint that penny had worked at. at least here you didn't know every face to whom you were serving. back in keizer, well carly could only imagine. it would go something like this, she would walk up to a table, a neighbor's family would be sitting there and before she could even get a drink order out of them she'd have to answer a question or two about her family. hopefully something was new and juicy enough to go through the gossip web in town. everybody hungered for that new piece of information to spill to the world and heavens above the sutton family was the golden goose of topics. anything that could be found on the formerly founding family was taken as the word of christ. the suttons were a hot topic even before carly had gotten pregnant. usually it was stories about how they had been doing well to overcome what they had been faced with when carly and penny's grandfather had died but after carly's screw up of epic proportions, anything on the fourteen year old had lit up the gossip. people would watch her walking down the street just to see if she would trip because it was something new to talk about.
-----so yeah, working here had to be better than serving to familiar faces. those damn small town people with their small minds and their judging eyes. carly couldn't imagine ever working under such conditions. then again after the baby and all that none of the sutton family didn't have work for that much longer. they had been forced out of that town. in carly's mind it was good riddance. if that was the kind of town they would be associated with for the rest of their lives then carly and the rest of her family just didn't need that kind of hassle. she hoped that things had ended for the better but was that really true? this had worked out pretty damn well for carly and she wanted to hope that the same could be said for her family, but was there any possibility that she was way wrong? of course carly had never asked her family to drop everything and move to valkyrie. she'd never asked nate to move from los angeles leaving behind his life to come stay with carly and her mother and father. if she knew she never would have let penny give up the fashion thing just to stick around and help her out. carly never asked her family any of that. she wouldn't either. it just wasn't right. now she did hope that moving here had at least worked out better for them than living in keizer had been. if she had known about all that her family had given up for her, well she probably would be eaten alive with guilt at the moment, aside from her initial reaction of slapping her sister for turning such a golden opportunity down. how could penny possibly think that giving up her life was worth more than helping her sister? carly didn't need that much help. after being forced to give up her baby she really didn't have that much going for her. she would have, and could have, rebounded without them. it probably would have been harder, but she still could have done it.
-----she did however love hanging out with her sister. penny was like a second mother to her, often taking more time out of her schedule to feed and mother her than their own mother could manage. how sad was that...urgh. carly scoffed as she sister swatted her with a dish towel, grabbing at it unsuccessfully before she just resorted to sticking her tongue out at her six years older sister. "shake the goodies? nice to know you think so highly of me dear sister." she fought the inner guilt but then remembered that she wasn't doing it for money, she was doing it because she loved it. carly had chosen that job for a reason and nothing was going to make her feel guilty about loving to dance. "fine then. you know i could just go and leave you with the wonderful benny. how about that?" she looked down at the shiny wooden bar top, fixing the curls of hair that she could see were out of place before she looked back up at her elder sister. she glanced at the drawing the moment it was set down in front of her. cute dress. ugly color. "plum ain't working with this. i would go with a red or a really deep blue. anything but...what is that? prune? other than that i like it. i'd definitely wear it." she gave the paper a little twist, sending it back in her sister's direction. she caught a little glance of the other drawings in the little black binder penny had practically glued to her side at all times. did she use it as a tray when she delivered drinks to customers? hah, funny thought.
-----carly looked up at the clock as well. god it was early. but she played it off as if it were nothing. "of course not. i've been bumming around the house all day seriously you really think i could sleep that long?" she stuck her elbow out, propping up her body as she switched back into a seated position on the bar stool. she curled a lock of hair around her fingers and just gave penny a smile. "who says i'm going anywhere? you spying on me big sis? you know that whole voyeur thing really doesn't suit your style. i'd figure you for a peeping tom if anything but still, that's just weird." she smirked as her sister walked away to fetch a pizza. it smelled alright but carly wasn't a huge fan of circular disks of heart clogging goodness. now she wasn't one of those grass grazers either. carly could eat meat when she really wanted to, but she tended to like lighter tastes, especially in the summer. she liked things like flavored ice, watermelons, fresh salads, and other things like that. but her mood could always change.

we are broken - - W H A T M U S T W E D O T O R E S T O R E- - our innocence
A part of her knew that carly couldn't possibly have any true interest in being in this place. more then a few times, she had wondered if any of her high school buddies had come in here, disgraced by the fact that her older sister in fact, worked here. penny though had simply come to the conclusion, it made money. enough to be able to budget appropriately. it wasn't a career, it was something to get her by until she had the opportunity she had once passed up. it wasn't the end though. if penelope was anything, it was an optimist. at least in this town, they weren't exactly under the boiling hot spotlight that keizer had put them under. honestly she didn't miss it at all. the family had made the smartest decision ever when they finally picked up and left town. quite sure not a one of them had every regretted the decision. truly, she was relieved. relieved to see carly happy, relieved to know her high school years were turning out at least a little better then the ones she had memories of for herself. a laugh escaping her as the apparent scoff from carly was given. the threat of being left only with benny for her entertainment. a slow turn of her head as she glanced back into that small window towards the kitchen. benny standing inside, fixing his hand in the reflection of a solid metal spatula. barely containing the laugh as she turned to look to her sister again.
"Hmm, yea you should probably just get up on the bar." her tone still teasing. a free hand patting the bar-top lightly. shaking her head to herself. the irony of the situation could not possibly be left upon carly. penelope though, thought nothing of her words. oh if only big-sister knew. carly was quite possibility one of her harshest critics when it came to the clothing line, but penny absolutely had no problem with it. especially since her little sister had become her muse to a lot of the things she created. her opinion was important. nose wrinkling to the mention of.. "prune?" she repeated quietly, the mock hurt on her expression, though the grin slipped through, nodding slowly. "i kept thinking the same thing."
Eyes narrowing on her sisters features, scanning over the details, before giving a finalized nod, "a dark navy blue would look really good on you. red would make you tanner then me. which i frankly, find a little unfair." giving her a wink as she turned to get herself a glass of diet coke, squeezing a lime in it, a brow raising, "you want anything?" not sure how long she planned to stay. for penny, the longer, the better. it was shaping up to be a slow end of her shift. another glance to the clock, the time seeming to just crawl about this time of the day. a brow raising curiously as she mentioned the voyeurism, "come on now. you know my real skill is on the internet." the words mocking. leaning her elbows lightly against the bar top. closing one eye in an almost exasperated gesture, the open eye peeking slowly down the length of the bar to make sure sal was no where in sight. eyes shifting back up to carly. "i applied for a part-time at nonesense. if it works out, i may be waving goodbye to the pepperoni's and pizza ovens." her tone low, not wanting anyone to over hear her. especially boss-man.
"Im not.. entirely miserable but, its getting there. i feel like I stink." an evident pout, "sister dear, you would tell me if i smelled slightly of pizza at the end of the day, wouldn't you?" the edge of a whine to her tone. "there has got to be something better around here for me." a huff of a sigh. reaching to place the sketch of that odd plum... prune dress back into the folder, before placing the folder on the back counter again. truly, everything in penelope urged her to try reapplying. not entirely sure the acceptance letter was still good.. surely it had an expiration date, everything else in this world seemed to. a brow raising to herself to the thought. still having the brochures and everything else tucked away. there was no way she would survive in chicago. even if the school tuition was paid for, there was still living, food, gas, makeup. yea, she couldn't live without that one. "any big plans for this weekend? i would dearly adore some one on one sisterly time." it was odd to her, how they could be living under the same roof all the time, and yet still somehow, they seemed so distant. of course, the fact she worked seventy to eighty hours a week was not a helping factor in it. and carly was busy with school.. and boys. there had to be boys involved. of course, she wouldn't worry if it wasnt doable this weekend. maybe she would magically meet the dream man at nonsense, if she got the job. hah, that wasn't a stretch of the imagination or anything. smirking to the thought.

CAROLINE ISABELLE SUTTONVALKYRIE CALIFORNIA, HAPPY FALCON PIZZA, DECEMBER 2007 -----so carly was bored and she came to see her sister to kill some time. was there really something wrong with that? carly was so used to hanging out with her sister ever since that whole spiel back in keizer. a person will really turn to the only people who will say a kind word to them when the rest of the world seems to turn on you. that's how it had been for carly. after cain had publicly outed her in front of the entire school, carly really had no where else to find comfort other than to the people in her family. she knew they would love her no matter what. it was kind of implied when you shared blood, but for them to step up and be there for her the way they all had...it hadn't been expected. penny had always appeared like she played two roles in carly's life. she was the big sister of course, but during the many, many hours that her parents weren't home and the youngest sutton needed something, well penny had played mother to her as well. when carly had been two, her elder siblings had been eight. it had worked out well for charles and emilia, the struggling parents who couldn't afford a babysitter and had to leave their children to fend for themselves most days. it had been hard on them all but because her siblings were six years older than her, well things were a lot less of a hassle for her. one way or another she had someone looking out for her. nate was like the father. whenever it was just the kids he assumed the dominant role and he called the shots. he took on all of the responsibility and usually all of the blame, but it was something he chose to do. wes was his backup and penny had played the more motherly role. carly had a lot more respect for her siblings knowing just how fast they'd been forced to grow up and through all of that they had still wanted their youngest sister to have a normal childhood. it wasn't fair to any of them. they deserved a childhood as well.
-----if only she could give them back the things they were denied. it wasn't really her job to do so in the first place, but because it had been her they cared for and took responsibility for, well it only felt right that she would be the one to give them something back. for penny, she wasn't sure, but maybe it was that whole fashion thing. it really seemed to be her calling. you couldn't pull her away from a pad of sketch paper if your life depended on it, and from what carly could see by the dress drawn on the paper seated in front of her, well it was definitely something she had a knack for, all except for the color. "yeah that looks pretty prune to me. i think if it was a lighter shade, or maybe a more bold purple that it would stand out better, but it's prune hun." carly smiled right back at her sister, a light airy chuckle leaving her lips. "good on me?" she chimed in, listening to her sister's trailing voice. "you're designing me dresses now?" carly looked down at the dress once more. it could be her style, sure, she just hadn't expected it to be designed specifically for her. no doubt she would rock it out just like she rocked out everything, but that was a bit of a surprise. "i'm good with a glass of water." she said as penny turned back with her own soda in hand. "ah yes but there's nothing like a live show." she couldn't help the snicker that sounded directly after that. her sister a peeping tom? how creepy would that be? the thought made her shudder slightly.
-----she watched her sister as she looked down the bar to...what? make sure no one was listening? it was when she spoke that carly realized that's exactly what she was doing. "ooh nonsense. that sounds like fun. i hope you get it." carly couldn't tell you how many times her sister's dirty clothes lay in the hamper smelling like old meat and yeast. any chance that she could get to leave this job would be a chance she needed to take. "you should enjoy your work no matter what so if you need to leave then i'm all for it." it was funny that penny would ask her that now, considering she was now remembering the smell of her sister's dirty work clothes. "well now that you mention it you sometimes come home smelling like yeast. it's not the most pleasant thing in the world. but aside from the occasional outfit you smell fine." she shrugged slightly, giving her sister that "sucks but it's true" kind of expression on her face. "but i mean it's nothing that a shower and a new change of clothes can't fix. it's not like you always smell of it." she sipped her water as penny grabbed the drawing and tucked it back into it's little home inside the black folder. carly wondered just how many drawings she had in there. maybe she should snag a couple and send them off to fashion schools, you know, to make up for the hell she put her through when carly was pregnant. ooh now that was sounding more and more like a brilliant idea. she'd have to sneak that folder away from her at some point.
-----her sister's voice brought her back into reality and carly could only shrug. "i'm busy saturday and sunday night but the daytime hours are all yours." it was weird, having to keep her job from her family but she was pretty damn sure that they would hog tie her to something and try to force her to quite if they found out. it was hard enough trying to talk nate down when he'd walked into bad seeds one night she was working. she'd nearly had to burst into tears in order for him to just stop and listen to her. she didn't like keeping this kind of thing from them but let's face it. she was underage, she was serving liquor, she could get some of her only new friends arrested, and a whole bunch of other problems related to her job. she really didn't need to go blabbing to anyone about it. she could hurt too many people and damn it she'd done enough of that for one lifetime. so she had to keep it from the rest of her family. sure they would find out, when her birthday came in february and she was of legal age. she just wouldn't tell them she was bartending. "did you have anything in mind?"
