Daphne smiled as she entered the gym. It cleans up nice... she observed as the gym, which held many gym classes every day was turned into a Egyptian desert. The golden lights stringed the walls creating a night feeling in a hot city near the Nile River. There were huge blown-up pyramids in the corners. The Homecoming Committee did very well this year. The music wasn’t blaring...yet as most of the kids entered Valkyrie Academy’s rather large gym. The DJ was even dressed up as a Pharaoh, it was a nice touch.
Though the festivities inside were bright and cheery, the weather outside was dark and gloomy. The weather forecast all this week was doom and gloom and on the night of homecoming it reigned through. It was raining heavily and light thunder in the distance which was due for the rest of the night and into tomorrow morning. Needless to say, this wasn’t affecting all the party go-ers that were looking forward to the night.
Homecoming alone wasn’t as big as Prom, but it was bigger than morp. (An informal dance close to December. Like, Sadie Hawkins. Morp was ‘prom’ spelled backwards because it wasn’t as big as prom, of course.) Homecoming was more popular to the juniors and seniors. Hence the ‘home’. It was technically the coming back to high school. Reason why it has only been a month since school was in session.
Gosh, has it already been a month? she thought. It seemed like just yesterday she was dreading the beginning of school to start again. But, hey. She had an amazing boyfriend who they cared a lot for each other. And he treated her so well. Yes, it was none other Josh Stewart. Though, she wasn’t obsessed, she had been looking forward to Homecoming. It was, anyways, their first debut as a couple, letting everyone, who hadn’t known, that yes, they were a couple.
She studied the crowd closely. There weren’t many people yet, but all the girls she saw were long, poofy, dresses. Daphne winced. They were dressing like it was their wedding. She looked down at her own dress. It was white and didn’t go quite below the knees. It was silk. Open back that dipped low. The front was what she called the square-U shape. It wasn’t a v-neck or the curve of a ‘u’ but, it came was a little higher to where the rib-cage came together. She made it herself, getting the inspiration from the dress Angelina Jolie wore... was it to the Academy Award’s last year? On her newly pedicured feet she had strappy white-heeled stilettoed heels that clicked every time she made a step. Her hair was as always loose and below her shoulders.
She smiled again...knowing that tonight was going to be fun. Anyways, no one can throw a homecoming, party, anything like Valkyrie.

Reed stood next to the refreshment table. Alex had run off to go to the ladies’ room and swore she would be back. He believed her. Though he wouldn’t admit it, he was very happy that he was taking Alex. Not that they were a couple...yet. Reed wasn’t one to get in a relationship so close to the beginning of the year, but Alex was different, she made things seem less complicated. And it was funny, Reed would never consider taking or dating a junior because they were just...annoying. But, Alex, she hardly seemed like a junior, which made Reed want her even more.
He found it extremely funny that it was raining. Almost as funny as the theme. Egyptian? What the fuck? Who came up with that? But, he guessed it was better the past few years. Jungle Maddness, Hollywood, and Heroes. Yes, he would have to say this one was alright.
He took a quick swipe of the room. No, not to look at the decorations but to see all the chaperones and see if they saw a kid standing, no brooding, over the punch. None. Typical, no one really chaperoned the dances besides the ‘cool-teachers’ that would rather be somewhere else than here. Not oldies carrying around glow-in-the-dark rulers measuring students who were basically grinding.
He withdrew a flask. Cold, hard, vodka. Excellent. He untwisted the cap and poured the contents into the large bowl full with fruit punch. It was a cliche, he had to admit, but, how could the teachers not expect this? It was in every great high-school movie. He stopped, noticing there were a few drops left in the flask. He brought it to his lips and drank the rest. After he finished he put the flask back into his pocket and stirred the bowl a little with the soup spoon.
He tapped an object in his pocket. A gift, to Alex. He smiled. Already he knew that tonight was going to be a night to remember.

Oscar splashed some water on his face. No, he wasn’t hiding. He was washing away the dinner he had with Anne. Ok, he would admit that was one of his first dates, (if you could call it that,) in awhile. Though he enjoyed that he was alone with Anne. It was nice for them to catch up. He felt that she wanted to be somewhere else. No, there but with someone else. Ok, so Oscar wasn’t the typical ‘boy-friend material’. He was no Josh, Reed, or Jason. He was Oscar Lyon. He was ‘none of the above.’
When they arrived at school a few minutes earlier, Oscar excused himself to go to the bathroom. She is probably wishing Princeton came, even if he had three eyes. he thought. There was no one else in the bathroom. So he stood in front of the sink and stared at himself for a moment. Yes, he liked Anne very much. Yes, she was probably still embarrassed from the time when they hooked up. Yes, he pretty much lost his wit when he picked her up earlier that night. Strike three and he was out.
He wasn’t going to say he did like homecoming, but he was realizing why everyone got so hyper about it. So much can happen in a single night. That’s right. He patted his face dry and smiled a lop-sided grin. So why not try and change it? he thought. Yes, he was going to try and make something different between him and Anne.
He snapped his fingers at his reflection and smiled. Tonight was it.

Bianca leaned against the wall outside. Yes, she was outside. She had her umbrella over her, so it wouldn’t ruin her hair. She wasn’t quite prepared to actually go to homecoming. Given, she was standing right outside the building where it was held, but she just wasn’t ready. The last time she went to a homecoming it was in Iowa with her boyfriend Brian...who died.
She inhaled the cigarette. She had quit smoking the day she went to rehab, but tonight she broke it and grabbed a pack from her father’s study. So now, she was sad she brought back the addiction and pissed at herself that she even decided to come. The rain pelted the sidewalk as she walked closer to the school. Live in the Now. echoed once again in her head. Damn therapist. She knew to live on, you needed to let go.
Her black dress swished against her legs as she walked to the entrance, her black heels clicking where she walked. Her dress was actually her mothers. It was knee-length. There was no straps, it was a strapless dress. She liked it since it was real vintage, not store-made-let’s call it vintage. Nothing over the top, just a plain, simple, black dress.
She shut the umbrella as she walked inside giving her ticket to the ticket-person. Already, she thought she had let go.
